I almost never use the camera mode on my Trion, but last night I wanted to take some shots at a party. When I tried to turn on the flash the icon was gone from the screen. I tried the function list it has flash on/off but when I hit "on" nothing happens. Like I said I almost never use the camera, but I know it use to work. The only thing I did recently was add Hermes Tweek from fit4cat. I have tried soft reset, but I realy don't want to hard reset just for a stupid flash. I'm not the most tech savey guy, so I live in fear of bricking my phone every time I rom update. I like the way its set up now, so if it has no flash so be it.... But the pictures I could have had of last night.....Well, photo ops like that don't happen every day!!!

You probably know this but in case not - as you don't use camera often, the flah icon will vanish if the camera has slipped off straight picture mode into the mode where it takes a series of pictures. i.e if you look top left corner you should see a logo of a camera not three symbols of pictures lying on top of one another. I find mine constantly slips off straightforward picture mode because the jog wheel gets moved without noticing. The jog wheel cycles through all the different camera and video modes.

Nope its in single shot normal camera mode, but thanks for the tip on the scroll weel I did not know that. I think one reason I don't use the camera more is I hate using the styles when I'm taking a picture, so if you have anymore hardware button tricks you want to share.

Don't need stylus for camera. Start camera with button on side of case.
Take pictures with the Dpad button ie one in centre between the two phone buttons.
Accept the piture by pressing it again and your ready for the next picture.
Exit camera by pressing OK hard key button.

You are ok how ur now mate.....the flash is useless if not u want to use it for torch....even pictures taken from 5-6 feet away dont get any diffrence with flash on and off at night....though 1-2 feet picture will give you a lot of change...all white washed brighten up dude!!!!! i did took atlist 200+ picture with my tytn but i cant remember a picture which were benifited from the using of flash....
anyone any comment??
Night photos
Yup, Sajib, you're right - day photos pretty good, night photos rubbish. Flash 80% useless except for certain angles when taking night photos in macro. I have nothing I would need to photograph in macro in the dark but there maybe many who have!?
Mike
Well I guess I will just have to find my keys with the light of the screen, as that seems to be the only thing it good for. Thanks for the tips. Who knows mabey the flash will come back when I get up the guts to flash the Cingular rom.

mine is...
after pressing half to focus, of course i need to press all to take the shot right?
but when i do so.. it defocus and refocus again usually...
if not while focusing, it will stop
it is as though the button has problem... anyone else have same prob?
same thing did happens in my x1 too..
reset to default setting would fix the problem temporary, n then it start defocusing again while pressing the cam button half away down to shutter..
my camera button was like this as well....
and i got a new replacement phone after going to the service centre.
you guys should do the same too...
I am not sure if I understand your problem, so if a am wrong ignore me .
From my expierience it means that it cannot focus correctly (especially in 'manual-focus' mode), mostly due to low-light since the Xperia uses contrast-based-autofocus.
One or more 'green blocks' (on automatic focus) indicate a successfull focus, does it do that at your devices?
nah.. i am a camera user.. its not.. its a problem... but hardware or software?? returning it is a hassle sigh
if you guys are looking for a quick fix to this, simply use the optical joystick button instead of the camera button to take the pic.
on a side note, i had the same exact problem on my old k800i, i just used the joystick to take pics instead of the camera button on the side of the phone.
how do u do that?
how do u semi depress?

That's not the smartest question. You could have pushed the button quicker and seen that it's automatic.
thats not the friendliest reply... most "photographer" will need a focus lock function .. hence asked about it..
anyway i went to SE and they told me nothing wrong with my button.. maybe software.. they will refresh the whole thing...
i got owned.
updates,
refresh did not help...
so its not hardware its not software... hence?
the button is just lousy???
anyone has solutions?
when i click the camera button to open the camera it doesnt alway work either. and yh it doesnt take pictures.
All i know is that the camera sucks really really really bad!!!
Its slow on focus
its slow with taking a picture so the smallest movement make the picture blurry
its worthless in the dark
the light does not help unless its something close by.
only good thing is that i can use the light to walk around the house when its dark and i dont want to turn on the lights.
i dont understand why it sucks so bad.
sony makes good camera's
why is it so hard to make a desent camera that is fast with a flash.
other brand do it,............
mine doesnt even start-up my camera...any way to assign another key to the camera? otherwise its crap!
what i think it is the problem of the button. it is really a bad design and make it hardly to press. i have tried so many times so that i believe that it is not software problem. it is just the stupid camera button...
so, i use the "enter" button of the optical joystick to shoot instead.
the mechanics insisted nothing wrong with the button..
sigh..
using the joystick, wont u loss the feature of focus lock?
but mine is no problem. I wonder if the X1 sell in your countries have more bugs than the one sell in HK? Case cracking problems and camera problems.. and so on!!
Yesterday at a concert i was nervous because i cannot film dark places with my phone but i tried anyway. I started the camera, used on/off to put phone in standby and soon after called it back to life to check time. i pressed the camera button to delete the video but the camera started overlaying today screen and i saw it was working perfect in total darknes where lights flashed here and there.
this is new to me but i was able to film almost a full hour without glithing.
can you ppl with different ROMs duplicate this?
so i was thinking.. there must be something that starts/stops when you put phone to standby while camera is working.. cant we just make the phone start/stop that everythime we press camera button (when we find out what it is)?
call me idiot or whatever if what im saying is wrong
i noticed the same behavior some months ago, probably with a different ROM. didn't have an answer for this
topic has 51 views and only your reply. looks like its "normal" i guess
but with latest pcarvalho rom my TC is perfect, only camera sucks

1.Open your camera..
2.Put your fingers in front of the len
3.push the power button to bring device to stand by,and after 4 seconds,
push again to wake the phone.
4.Now release your fingers from the len and you have a very quick camera.
If you can't do it with the first time ,follow the steps and do it again

its working great
is there any way to work always... after close camera and open again you must do it again....
there is no need of holding your finger infront of camera or whatever its only done by standby->wakeup. but you have to be in darker-than-full-daylight place and it only works while you point at dark. if you point to light the thing somehow resets and its all over again.
i posted this because i want to know if we can somehow force this behaviour to allways. i am sure this is just a minor flaw in code. any programmer here with any ideas about this?
i cant believe no one cares about this...
I am trying to get my focus to utilize the shop savvy app, but it doesn't take as good of close ups as my TP2, is there a setting or anything I need to change. Thanks in advanced.
When you fire up the camera, go into settings. Click "AF Mode", and choose "Macro". That should do the trick.
The other thing is to experiment with the flash off, or shoot at a slight angle to minimize glare.
Unfortunately, as you probably know, the camera settings always revert back to the defaults every time you exit the camera. That's one of the common complaints we're all hoping will be fixed by a software update.
Brad.
thanks I will try that, trying at work no luck as of yet. Have you tried the app shopsavvy yet?
Shop Savvy and BarCode pics
I'm using it, and it usually takes a couple of tries before I get a good picture that's recognizable. Have not tried the Macro setting, but I have noticed that the focus beep must sound before I snap for the picture or else I get gobblygook.
Microsoft Tag app is garbage.. I tired for an hour to scan in 10 diffrent tags. Changing camera settings for AF mode, lighting, etc. etc. Even they admit they need to make it use the video mode to line up the tag to scan. Until they fix it, it's a mediocre app at best
Hold the camera button half way down - picture will focus on bar code - then depress and you should have proper result.

This along with turning the flash off works like a charm. I have been going around the house snapping all my bar code labels. It works surprisingly well. Thanks
I have scanned a few barcodes and it worked for me. The main things is to turn off the Flash, and use the half press on the camera to focus properly. Then once it beeps snap the picture. I never switch to Macro mode and the half press takes perfect closeups.

"I don't take pictures often, but my Samsung Omnia 7 seems to take very very bad pictures.
This is both indoors and outdoors, both with flash on and off.
Most picutres I take, it looks like they are out of focus, or if I'm shaking, which I'm not.
(edit: at the bottom of the post you can scroll to the right to see the rest of the pics)
Sometimes the pictures are ok, let's start with one which isn't too bad:"
See the link for the pics.
Other ppl have the same problem?
My pictures come out quite well with the Omnia 7..Not amazing (in comparison with high end digital cameras) - but very good for a smart phone.
Reading that topic - did you at all try the half press autofocus? You MUST do this with every shot if you want precise, blur-free pictures else I'm afraid you are going to come out with the pictures you've presented.
However if the pictures occur at the same quality whilst autofocusing - then there is a definite defect in the camera and would get the phone replaced under warranty (if valid) or attempt to clean the camera lens.
No, didn't half press on any of them Didn't knew I had to to focus..
hehe ... another question ... is it possible to save the camera settings? When I record videos i always have to switch vom vga to 720p hd recording again ... all changed settings are on stock again when i restart the camera app
Sadly, you won't be able to save any camera settings.
This is very annoying - Always having to set up the camera again prevents me from taking snapshots spontaneously.

I never need to change any of the settings - they're fine for quick snapshots. When you need to play around with contrast, white balance, marcro, etc, it's no longer a quick snapshot!
As has been discussed in this thread, it's 100% evident that your pictures are poor because you haven't half pressed the shutter button to focus first.
Just hold the button lightly until a rectangle box appears. That's your focus box and it should be evident when it's focused on what you want. You'll also hear a sound from the device that it's focused.
Without releasing your finger, push down fully on the shutter button to take the focused photo.
If you simply push down like you have been, it's not giving the camera a chance to focus and you'll get blurring.
I'm sure you understand already by the post I saw, just making sure I can double make sure you understand.
Happy shooting!

There's an Anti Shake feature on the Omnia (I say Omnia because it wasn't there on the HD7) I'd like to enable permanently but it always goes back to off when you restart the app.
(Just a suggestion as to why someone would want to change the settings)
My problem is not exactly bad quality, but has anyone else notice that there is a red/pink area in the middle, when you take a pic from a white/light color?

Yes, I get that pink area too. I believe it's a fairly common issue with phone cameras, and I also had it with my previous phone (HTC HD2).

I also have the pink spot on mine and it's still there after the update... hope they will fix it with the "NoDo" update =P
So I was using my phone yesterday to take pictures of my computer. I tried on two occasions to touch and zoom in on an area (which worked fine) but as soon as I press the shutter button to take the picture, the phone would make a weird noise (seems to be coming from the lens?) then it just freezes. It eventually took the picture after the reset.
I have to hold my power button to get it to fully reset. Then this morning I noticed that my clock and date were all messed up.. set back to 1970 and time was reset.
Anyone else experienced this before? Nothing else is wrong with the phone but I'm not sure if this would be a software or hardware issue.
Thanks.
Yeah Ive had the camera app lock up a few times. Shutter button does nothing (didnt notice any sounds as I was outdoors), closing the camera app does not fix it, full restart is necesary but my clock worked fine at boot. Ive also had an issue where if you touch to focus and then swipe to see the gallery then the LED flash will stay lit indefinetly, forcing you to go back to the camera app and re-focus.
What rom / kernel are you guys using ?
Not sure if this is related but I've had the camera refuse to take pictures a lot, especially in low light - the camera cannot seem to focus so hitting the shutter button does nothing. I find switching to another mode (video for example) and then back again sometimes cures it. I've also had it lock up and leave the flash on. I'm surprised this got through testing as it seems quite a common issue from other N4 users I've spoken to.
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=40996
+1 same problems here.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Same issue here too - just received mine 2 days ago and I sometimes need to change the camera to video mode then back to picture mode for it to be able to take pictures again.
Pure vanilla phone here, no custom kernels or any roms of any kind.. hell my phone isn't even rooted.. lol.
I've just started to notice that since I've been trying to take more pics with my phone lately.
And yes I've been seeing issues with the camera not wanting to take shots or focus properly either.
Same issues yesterday i was taking pics of my x-mas tree and gifts, suddenly the camera wouldn't focus anymore, had to restart the camera app, also auto focus is really not functioning too well... It can't seem to lock when focused on a subject...
Sent from my Nexus 4
