Normal working Touch Cruise camera - Touch Cruise ROM Development

Yesterday at a concert i was nervous because i cannot film dark places with my phone but i tried anyway. I started the camera, used on/off to put phone in standby and soon after called it back to life to check time. i pressed the camera button to delete the video but the camera started overlaying today screen and i saw it was working perfect in total darknes where lights flashed here and there.
this is new to me but i was able to film almost a full hour without glithing.
can you ppl with different ROMs duplicate this?
so i was thinking.. there must be something that starts/stops when you put phone to standby while camera is working.. cant we just make the phone start/stop that everythime we press camera button (when we find out what it is)?
call me idiot or whatever if what im saying is wrong

i noticed the same behavior some months ago, probably with a different ROM. didn't have an answer for this

topic has 51 views and only your reply. looks like its "normal" i guess
but with latest pcarvalho rom my TC is perfect, only camera sucks

1.Open your camera..
2.Put your fingers in front of the len
3.push the power button to bring device to stand by,and after 4 seconds,
push again to wake the phone.
4.Now release your fingers from the len and you have a very quick camera.
If you can't do it with the first time ,follow the steps and do it again

its working great
is there any way to work always... after close camera and open again you must do it again....

there is no need of holding your finger infront of camera or whatever its only done by standby->wakeup. but you have to be in darker-than-full-daylight place and it only works while you point at dark. if you point to light the thing somehow resets and its all over again.
i posted this because i want to know if we can somehow force this behaviour to allways. i am sure this is just a minor flaw in code. any programmer here with any ideas about this?

i cant believe no one cares about this...

Flash LED missing from camera mode?

I almost never use the camera mode on my Trion, but last night I wanted to take some shots at a party. When I tried to turn on the flash the icon was gone from the screen. I tried the function list it has flash on/off but when I hit "on" nothing happens. Like I said I almost never use the camera, but I know it use to work. The only thing I did recently was add Hermes Tweek from fit4cat. I have tried soft reset, but I realy don't want to hard reset just for a stupid flash. I'm not the most tech savey guy, so I live in fear of bricking my phone every time I rom update. I like the way its set up now, so if it has no flash so be it.... But the pictures I could have had of last night.....Well, photo ops like that don't happen every day!!!

You probably know this but in case not - as you don't use camera often, the flah icon will vanish if the camera has slipped off straight picture mode into the mode where it takes a series of pictures. i.e if you look top left corner you should see a logo of a camera not three symbols of pictures lying on top of one another. I find mine constantly slips off straightforward picture mode because the jog wheel gets moved without noticing. The jog wheel cycles through all the different camera and video modes.

Nope its in single shot normal camera mode, but thanks for the tip on the scroll weel I did not know that. I think one reason I don't use the camera more is I hate using the styles when I'm taking a picture, so if you have anymore hardware button tricks you want to share.

Don't need stylus for camera. Start camera with button on side of case.
Take pictures with the Dpad button ie one in centre between the two phone buttons.
Accept the piture by pressing it again and your ready for the next picture.
Exit camera by pressing OK hard key button.

You are ok how ur now mate.....the flash is useless if not u want to use it for torch....even pictures taken from 5-6 feet away dont get any diffrence with flash on and off at night....though 1-2 feet picture will give you a lot of change...all white washed brighten up dude!!!!! i did took atlist 200+ picture with my tytn but i cant remember a picture which were benifited from the using of flash....
anyone any comment??
Night photos
Yup, Sajib, you're right - day photos pretty good, night photos rubbish. Flash 80% useless except for certain angles when taking night photos in macro. I have nothing I would need to photograph in macro in the dark but there maybe many who have!?
Mike
Well I guess I will just have to find my keys with the light of the screen, as that seems to be the only thing it good for. Thanks for the tips. Who knows mabey the flash will come back when I get up the guts to flash the Cingular rom.

re-mapping of camera button

Hey,
my Hermes fell on the floor and now the camera button is not working anymore..no big deal since i hardly ever use the camera anyways...but in the rare occasions i do, i just wanted to re-map the camera to another button..which worked fine, only problem is that i can't take any pictures since i am not able to re-map the 'take picture' funktion ! can anybody help me ?
thanks
When camera application is active, you can take pictures using the center directional button.
LOL... DOH! It's not like the world comes to an end if the camera button is broken...
Thanks hacqua,
found it out myself yesterday
@NRGZ28
did somebody mention 'the end of the world' ? must've been a different thread pal..
LOL....
My camerabutton has also a failure on it, and I used the enter-button on the keyboard, the button is much easier.
Thanks
i dropped my phone hard a week or so ago and was trying to find the same answer.
yeah anything that does an enter will take a picture.
keypad. center button. pressing down on the scroll wheel. all will take a picture.
I wonder what it is about that button that makes it so "fragile"
I basically, not literlly, threw my phone at concrete... it scuffed and the camera button broke. Internal speaker wire came undone as well.
had to void the warrenty to open it up and fix it but i was amazed at the phones durability at least externally.
now if only the software was as solid.

is your camera button screwed??

mine is...
after pressing half to focus, of course i need to press all to take the shot right?
but when i do so.. it defocus and refocus again usually...
if not while focusing, it will stop
it is as though the button has problem... anyone else have same prob?
same thing did happens in my x1 too..
reset to default setting would fix the problem temporary, n then it start defocusing again while pressing the cam button half away down to shutter..
my camera button was like this as well....
and i got a new replacement phone after going to the service centre.
you guys should do the same too...
I am not sure if I understand your problem, so if a am wrong ignore me .
From my expierience it means that it cannot focus correctly (especially in 'manual-focus' mode), mostly due to low-light since the Xperia uses contrast-based-autofocus.
One or more 'green blocks' (on automatic focus) indicate a successfull focus, does it do that at your devices?
nah.. i am a camera user.. its not.. its a problem... but hardware or software?? returning it is a hassle sigh
if you guys are looking for a quick fix to this, simply use the optical joystick button instead of the camera button to take the pic.
on a side note, i had the same exact problem on my old k800i, i just used the joystick to take pics instead of the camera button on the side of the phone.
how do u do that?
how do u semi depress?

That's not the smartest question. You could have pushed the button quicker and seen that it's automatic.
thats not the friendliest reply... most "photographer" will need a focus lock function .. hence asked about it..
anyway i went to SE and they told me nothing wrong with my button.. maybe software.. they will refresh the whole thing...
i got owned.
updates,
refresh did not help...
so its not hardware its not software... hence?
the button is just lousy???
anyone has solutions?
when i click the camera button to open the camera it doesnt alway work either. and yh it doesnt take pictures.
All i know is that the camera sucks really really really bad!!!
Its slow on focus
its slow with taking a picture so the smallest movement make the picture blurry
its worthless in the dark
the light does not help unless its something close by.
only good thing is that i can use the light to walk around the house when its dark and i dont want to turn on the lights.
i dont understand why it sucks so bad.
sony makes good camera's
why is it so hard to make a desent camera that is fast with a flash.
other brand do it,............
mine doesnt even start-up my camera...any way to assign another key to the camera? otherwise its crap!
what i think it is the problem of the button. it is really a bad design and make it hardly to press. i have tried so many times so that i believe that it is not software problem. it is just the stupid camera button...
so, i use the "enter" button of the optical joystick to shoot instead.
the mechanics insisted nothing wrong with the button..
sigh..
using the joystick, wont u loss the feature of focus lock?
but mine is no problem. I wonder if the X1 sell in your countries have more bugs than the one sell in HK? Case cracking problems and camera problems.. and so on!!

G-off Display

"Description:
With G-off display you can turn off the screen by rotating and holding the phone upside down and holding it like that for a second.
To save battery while listen to your favorite music, simply point your phone downward, light off. All background processes remain.

Just what I need! but...
Hi
This is a nice app that i've wanted. I know I could use Changescreen as it has a similar feature, but a standalone like this is more preferable for me...
But I just can't download from Rapidshare...
Is it possible to load the .cab here since its only 345kb? or a mirror to somewhere else...
Anyways, Thanks for pointing this App out...

Hello
how about battery drain pls?
not working on HTC Rhodium (TP2) - also I can't see it in programs, etc. Do I need to do anything else after install?
I got a question are there any options? like on conference call (when using loud speakers - device is upside down), will it ignore the g-off? Because I am not sure what would happend if I would press POWER BUTTON in the middle of the call just to get the screen back ..
Not working in my Touch Pro, too
Using latest WinMobile 6.5.21935.
I also did a softreset after installation!

You don't see it. But it is there. Go to the Program Files and the directory with the same name. Click once on it, and tune the device upside down. It will switch it off.Not ON again.
You can link to it.

origin of g-off display
Beware! I am NOT the programmer. I don't know who is either. I just found it.
btw ChangeScreen has a "display off" option too.
worked on the tilt 2
it needs dot net compact framework 3.5 and then it loads on startup... closing the title bar that comes up doesn't seem to stop it from working. however, having said this, i can't say that perhaps the tilt 2 didn't have the behavior before i installed this... it took me a while to realize that upside down doesn't mean face down, which is what i had wanted. but having said that, turning it upside down works great because you can put it in your pocket upside down (which basically you might do anyway).
also, indeed, to get it back on, one has to push the power button. but that's good in case the device moves out of tolerance for downward position it won't be going on and off unintentionally--except that even after the screen is already off it will keep executing--i know this because it vibrates when the screen goes off as well, and if i take it out of upside down position and then put it back without turning screen on again, it will vibrate again. this said, walking with it in a pocket didn't seem to keep triggering it, so overall this is a really cool hack.
now for figuring out why my t2 doesn't turn its speakerphone on when placed face down during a call (i was thinking face down should always turn the screen off by way of proximity sensor--which does work on my device because during a call holding finger over ear speaker turns off the display--just doesn't turn speaker on). wait... just realized... if it did then it would have to assume that just putting it to the ear should turn on speaker. so, i'd say what we have here is a challenge... integrate the proximity sensing with the g-sensor to always turn off the display when face down on a flat, reasonably level surface-- and during a call turn on the speaker too.
if this can be done, then combined with the g-off existing functionality it'd be really sweet--i wouldn't have to turn it upside down _before_ placing it flat on a table while listening to music. and the proximity could help make it less worrysome to just automatically turn the screen back on when picked up.

sorry for the duplicate post above--tried to edit, then hit save by accident
edit... i just tried screenchange and it in theory seems to do exactly what i want, but in practice, with 2.78 and any sensitivity level and appropriate no light option checked, it turns off the display even if there is light (and lots of it to be sure). i hold the device upside down above my head and the display goes off. i'm not covering the proximity sensor. my proximity sensor does work when in a phone call. i tried rebooting. i think the proximity sensor may be off somehow on my device...maybe htc only wants it on in a phone call? i will have to see if screenchange will work right with the device in a phone call... further posts will go over with screenchange.
btw, regarding the forum... its annoying that my edit made a whole new post in the first place.
cool!!!thanks

[TUT]How to Blank the Screen During a Call (Tap the screen with two fingers!)

Hey everyone,
I really hope I'm not the only one out of the loop about this (and I doubt I am cause I spend way too much time on xda...lol). I use my HD2 with a headset quite alot (almost always actually), so the proximity sensor is not of great use. Since when I'm on my headset (wired), and have the phone facing up, the screen is turned on, and I have to put something on the proximity sensor to cover it up in order to turn the screen off and stop draining the battery.
But here's the crazy part I found out today....and I can't believe it took this long:
Do a two finger (multitouch) on the call status screen (the regular screen while on a call) and it will TURN THE SCREEN OFF!
The screen will turn back on if you move the phone (but it turns it on via the proximity sensor and not the gsensor....at least that's my thinking at the moment). I'd play around with this more, but I have mad finals coming so I just wanted to post this for everyone.
So...go out and give it a try!
PS. I have the USTmo version (just in case it has a different dialer/call status then Euro version, but I'm guessing this will work on both).
OMG. this TOTALLY WORKs! I just called my voicemail and tested it out! IT works like a charm! THANKS SO MUCH.
are there any more little tricks like this out there? WOW I want to know more about y device!
That is an excellent discovery...thanks!
Great find!!!
Doesn't work on my ROM.
genius, good find
It works
Just tested it and it works
Great find man!! Thanks
I can't believe my eyes it works! thanx
can ppl pls post which rom theyre using, so we can have a overview where this great find works. Thank you!
I'm using the 1.66 WWE ROM in the UK and it's not working.
i can't believe it, it works on stock tmo rom
works on energy. thanks!
Can someone post a video how to do this, please? I am using 1.72 rom with O2 and have no idea how to do that.
Cheers
at my 1.72 ROM it does NOT work.
tapped with 2 fingers on the screen while calling the Voicemail but nothing happens.
hopefully someone will fix this .. very annoying that the standby and the disconnect function is at the same button
looks like its a v2 rom feature.
it actually works!
wow....great find! i always had to put my finger over the light sensor. not anymore
Also works on my T-Mo GREAT find...Tj
Sweeeeeet!
Was excited but gonna stick with my current method
I tried this with high hopes but the fact that it turns right back on if you move the phone is no good for me while on the go, but is great for when my phone is just sitting on top of my desk or a table.
What I have been doing, and what others might want to try, takes a few steps but does work. I installed a little app called DisplayOff which turns off the display with one tap and will stay off until any hardware button is pressed once. I used Resco Explorer to create a shortcut for the app which is just an exe that doesn't need to be installed, just placed somewhere on your device and clicked on to activate. So when I'm in a call on bluetooth as I almost always am, I have to tap the home key so that I can then tap the DisplayOff icon which is a Sense Quick Link.
After thinking about this more, I just realized that using AE Button Plus, I could map DisplayOff to activate with say 3 taps of a hardware button instead of my current method..........
I know this since the day tmobile usa hd2 came out, nothing special about this as method, you can also blank the screen by placing your finger or object on top of the sensor next left to the speaker.
