Onboard storage for the G1 vs the Magic - G1 General

I know that one of the main gripes about the G1 is the storage space for apps. How does the storage compare to other devices? Magic, I7500?

How about next time you do your own research, eh?

i guess my question is: RAM or ROM: which is used for storing apps?

MOD EDIT
rude posting....read the rules before you post again.
this is your only warning

lbcoder could have been more polite but he is right. xda-developers is not the place to ask questions that a tiny bit of research would have answered. Do research for yourself before posting or go somewhere else.
ROM is used for storage, RAM for running.

Of these three, the Samsung Galaxy I7500 has the most memory

why is my 'move to SD' greyed out?

I have a fully formatted fat32 SD card with photos and music...etc on.
I've only installed 3 apps and they're not internal memory dependent but I'm not getting the option to move them. Any ideas?
it is because the dev of the app has to flag the app to let it be copied over to the sd card.

How to remove things from storage memory

When I went to run youtube I got an error about not enough memory. I have only 6mb of storage memory left. I uninstalled some programs and got 10mb of storage memory. Is there a way of freeing up storage memory?
I have an SD card installed and I thought I had installed all programs to that, is there any thing I can do to get more memory other than flash the rom?
maybe you should of searched, because there is a few threads like this already, sorry to be harsh but its the mood im in

@Dhester,
you may want to check this video on some tips you might find very useful as far as internal storage memory is concerned:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDOoL8ohwGE&playnext_from=TL&videos=0ai4J0ukerc
also, clear out cache every time you use opera...
Thanks cezzarmicu for the help. Its nice to see a junior member has the time to reply whilst two senior members are so uop their own backsides that they can't help a newbie.

Kind of proves my point , I am sure he just did a google search ...
None of us here mind helping people with actual problems, but clearing internal storage, or installing programs to storage card instead of the device , is basic usage.
If you just did not understand how to do it, maybe you should have said, "I have searched and searched, and I just don't get it can't figure it out..." I bet you would have gotten a nicer response.
But this "Teach me how to use my phone because I can't type google.com into my browser.", attitude just gets old ...
And I refer you to this post .... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=631069
Okay I could have typed google and come up with 60000000 different sites with useless information. I choose to come here as it is fellow users of the HD2, but I appear to be wrong it is just full of self importent arseholes who can't be bothered to help someone, but they have got the time to repeat the "why can't you type google".
So if I get band from here because I asked a question and got a load of **** from some know all arsehole, and told them so I won't care.
well most people would of at least attempted a search in hd2 section before asking.
you may have gotten a more civil reply .
most situations have already been covered a couple of times
and tbh you're less likely to be given info if you spout your illiterate mouth off at members

+1 for sure ....
Now I don't see anyone in this thread but the OP using fowl language , the forum guides state to search before posting, that is what we suggested, maybe in a harsh way but in no way degrading or insulting ...
This is a tech type forum not a "Spoon Feeding" forum, most people here expect persons posting to have basic knowledge, and understanding before posting and asking questions ...
I think a mod should read this and then decide if it should be locked or remain open for further education ....

you should install cleanram as it helps free some ram...also get cleartemp as it'll show you what's eating your space up like googlemap and youtube caches so you can delete them easily...and finally don't forget to soft reset
one more very important thing which saves a LOT of space if you're on stock rom or your cooked rom doesnt have it(highly unlikely) is moving the album cache...read the thread here and look out for 4tune's cab
you should also read tboy200's thread and look at tips 65 and 67

Read the damn manual OP and use the search function. If you don't like to sift through the results from the search function, I'd gladly come and crap in your threads each and every time to remind you to use the search function whilst still not intentionally providing you with any help whatsoever just because you're an e-douche.

Well i've read through and i think i'm comming down with the same strain of lazy-itis the op has because right about the same time i figured out that he wasn't bothered enough to look through the first 20 google results and also couldn't be arsed to pay enough attention to his english teacher to learn how to speak to people properly; i lost the will to type anything that could possibly help. It's so bad i can't even be bothered to berate him for being generally very rude to the people with the skill and (normally) the willing to help him.
I think i might just go back to flashing my old diamond with the latest energy diamond rom, installing hspl and a new radio rom. Then i'll probably finish setting up my Leo with the new energy leo rom and finish testing a memory usage theory i have.
Ah well sucks to be him. Maybe he should learn to KEEP HIS ****ING MOUTH SHUT AND BE RESPECTFUL!!!!
Oh, sorry, did i just swear. My mistake. Next time i'll remember to read the rules of the forum first so i don't get reported to the mods and subsequently banned.

[Q] fascinate froyo ram

With froyo out now for the fascinate does the phone show that it has 512 of ram?
No; a new OS isn't going to change the amount of ram. Task Manager still shows 336 MB, Quadrant shows 347072 KB (338.93 MB)
is the phone at a loss without 512 ram? I have a droid incredible, I would like a bigger screen.
Not necessarily. The phone technically has 512 MB, but only 384 is useable; the other 128 MB serves as the dedicated graphics memory. So it's basically give/take: you give some memory up for a better, dedicated GPU.

oh they exist. one jumped right in and locked my rom topic when I posted about the vip exclusive 48 hour early release. there's just too few of them and too many topics in the wrong section on every board on this site for them to handle.
That's why it would be smart to make local mods, make people who actually use a board mod that board only.

Should I root my S4? Looking for advice

Ok so this S4 is pretty much the first real smart phone I've ever owned. I've often heard that rooting a device is a great way to go for an android phone. Now could someone explain exactly what rooting it does? It is supposed to basically format the phone and install a stock android OS, right? It will get rid of all the bloatware from Samsung/AT&T?
Are there any disadvantages to rooting it? Am I in any danger of my phone losing functionality? Will I still be able to use all the same settings like the eye detection, or the motion gestures, and the camera will still be the same?
Root is like admin access in Windows. It will not format your phone if you root. It also voids the warranty.
There's tons of info out there about the pros and cons of rooting. When I got my Captivate all I did was read because most of the time... The question i wanted to ask had already been answered. Read as much as you can on here and Google. It will help a lot.

I've read up on it a bit, but not a whole lot. Honestly the main reason I was hoping to root is to free up some space. Do you know approximately how much space I would have if I rooted my S4? Currently have about 8 out of 16 GB being used by the OS/Software
You've got a lot of reading to do. And when you think you've read enough, read some more.

Your free space depends on how many (and the size) of the apps you remove. It's not like you're going to get root then more space just appears.
I can't find the other thread, but here's a good place to start on what apps on be removed.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2254143
BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING... read. With root access you can really screw up your phone if you don't know what you're doing or what you're removing.

how much ram?

So How much RMA after a reboot do you have available?
I thought it would be awesome to have 3gb ram but really I don't find it to be different from 2gb..
on my note 2 on a cold boot it would start up at 580MB ram... on my note 3 it starts up at 1.25
Really the increase in ram just made them load up more stuff on boot and background which is the same as 2gb ram
total available is 2.38GB
Where is the rest ?
So you did not see the "DO NOT POST QUESTIONS HERE" Sticky?
Or these threads?
Note 3 only show 2.38G Ram? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2465060
2.38GB RAM? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2461099
First of all you shouldn't put any questions in here, read the stickies man.
And second of all it has been discussed many times that the system saves .70 gigs in the s800 version and .34 gigs in the Exynos version. What Samsung thinks is necessary for the phone to work as smooth as it does. But even with four app running between multiwindow and pen window, it doesn't use all the ram.

easy cowboys no need to get your panties all twisted up.. i am sure a mod can move it.
The fact that a mod can move it is entirely irrelevant.
The rules are there so the mods can do what they're meant to do, as opposed to wasting their time on people who can't bloody look beyond their own selfimportance.
This will be locked, you can find your answers in the threads about this very subject I linked earlier.
Use the Search function next time.

it is a forum.. on online discussion forum .. I missed the stickie.
And that stickie is fairly new... it wasn't here before..
So instead of wasting your time replying to this thread why even bother? you need to get your ego in check .. there is no need to be an arse.. and if it bothers you so much
it could of simply been avoided by NOT REPLYING. easy as 1 2 3.. don't you think? I think so..

No need to justify myself white knight..
I did apologize by not reading the stickies.. since it is fairly new I knew of the other one and didnt check..
That is the apology that I missed it.. I do not say sorry to people that show attitude on an online forum.
I could theoritically redo this thread and not ask a question but compare two note 3's snapdragons that after restart show two significant ram usage with the same apps disabled.
a tad more than 800mb
my note 3 do always show 90% RAM while I was surfing chrome, facebook & Gmail. WTF!

Free RAM is wasted RAM.

Seriously mate? That's your brilliant comeback?
Oh, I see, you must be below 14 to use such a highschool response.
For someone who has been here since 2007, you know very little about the rules and the attitude people have towards members who break those rules. You're getting off mild, these threads and their starters usually get trolled to death.
Be a man for a change and stuff that childish ego back in your pants.
