Not possible. You will get an error that says something to the tune of image is older and the RUU will abort.
Thanks guys

The OP wasn't asking anything out of the ordinary. Giving attitude, flaming, and trolling will take things nowhere, particularly not from our stand point. Please consider not posting like this anymore since you are breaking all three of the aforementioned rules. Consider this a friendly warning.
No it is not possible. You will have yo wait till someone roots the 2.1 release. Next time do a search before posting.

You can not root 2.1 and the phone will not allow you to downgrade the hboot so you can not go back from 2.1
There is a thread in the dev forum. A couple people are trying to find a work around to either downgrade or just a plain old exploit to gain root. Keep a look out for it.
And another one gone...

Dude man up. How did he flame? "No. Not possible " that's a pretty straight forward answer to the ops question. So one has to go on a rant now to answer a stupid question that has been asked 264510937381996 times before otherwise you hurt feelings?
Lesson #1 on forums.
Dont argue with mods or admins...you will lose...every time....always.
It took many years of getting banned to learn that.
have a nice day.
LOL arguing? OK I guess feelings run high here. And I sat here thinking I was asking a question haha

In my field thats a form of Subordination. I have modded for many years and ran my own forums, if i was a Mod/Admin here i would see it like that... But honestly, dude im not busting your chops regardless i was just pointing out a simple rule which wasnt directly or indirectly pointed at you. You talk about feelings running high here well everyone at one point or another was a newbie so since my feelings are now directly involved at this point i feel that yes... Some of the comments here that i have seen especially to newbies are complete irate, irrational and overall douche like.
And now you know... And knowing is half the battle!

I don't think it was the "No. Not possible." part that was the issue, it was the "Done. Mods close thread." part that was a bit rude. It came off that way to me anyways. A simple "Not possible" would have sufficed.

OK I agree because even I can be a fool to noobers. I was talking about this thread, not in general though.
My feelings were never hurt because I understand how some people do not have lives and just go from post to post being assholes to strangers on the internet to make up for their non-existent social life in the real world. As far as it being a stupid question, sorry that I did not perform a search. I looked at the posts from the first two pages in this forum and didn’t see anything. Either way, have a nice day. I will be sure to search before I ask a question that takes up so much space on this website. Get a life.

wow this isnt a great way to get a mod/admins attention now is it?
/sarcasm
The key to the game is to not take anything the internet says personally,
Well unless they somehow have nudes of faithful girlfriend of 5 years in that case..
But honestly I believe most people on this forum are pretty good people despite being quick to action, but a good number are just playing don't mind them much.
You know I kinda debated about starting this thread but I finally read enough smartass-think-they-are-better-than-everyone-posts. Im a member on countless electonics forums with thousands of posts with the same user name I might add and this forum kinda tops them all as far as "rude people". Yes, I might be "newer" to these forums, but while most of you were in elementary school, I was working on computers, installing networks and doing competition car audio.
Now lets start.
Why were forums made? For the masses to gather and share information, ideas, buy & sell, meet others and just down right chat to one another. *And for people that got picked on in their school days and decide to be a jerk online because they want to feel better about themselves.*
It seems like almost every single thread I read there is someone that asks the "standard question" that has probably been answered numerous times and then you get the standard response. "Well if you would of read, you would know the answer." Instead of being a douche, you could of just typed the answer, gained more post counts and could of probably got your Thanks Meter up another notch.
I love the answer, "Thats what the search feature is for." Well I'm sure almost all of you have tried to search and maybe your search wasnt bigger than 3 letters which gets excluded or so many other queries come that dont get even come close to answering your question. Sometimes its like trying to find waldo in a book with really really big freaking pages.
Then the, "If you would of read the whole thread you would know the answer" response. Well jesus, do you guys realize how fast some of these threads move? Damn, I can make a post, go to bed, wake up and noticed during the overnight the thread gains 10+ pages. Now imagine you are someone new to this, you have read the stickies, done a few searches, got their phone rooted ok but then notice a bug so they ask the "standard question". Well when you have an ungodly amount of threads and an even bigger number of actual posts sometimes its like finding a needle in a haystack. When just asking a question (Which is what forums were made for) can sometimes save you hours of searching thousands of threads.
Some of the people on this forum just need to be patient and help people out, instead being an ASS. We were all newbies once. And we will all be newbies to some other subject in the future. "Can't we all just get along"
And before anyone does the standard flaming. No, this did not happen to me. Search my screen names for posts if you wish. I just hate seeing in almost every 500+ page thread were someone asks a question and the next few people have some sort of smartass answer.
Just be nice, answer the question and watch your Thanks Meter go up. Simple as that.
If people werent asking questions then these forums wouldnt even be a quarter of the size they are now.
Thanks for reading. Have a great day.
Also, thanks to all the Devs that have spent countless days and sleepless nights to help all of us have a more enjoyable experience with our phones.
Uhh, there are already a few threads talking about the same rants, next time search before you create a thread......
LMAO, ok sorry. I couldn't help myself,

Thanks bro, but you are right though, there is a little to much tension at times around here. I have been a member of this site for many years, I had another account but I forgot my name and password so I created this one about three years ago. My point is, I been coming here for over 5 years or so and I am on this site damn near every single day but I never post much if ever. I usually search for what I am looking for at best and then just move on while avoiding the stupid crap. I am also a member of sprintusers, ppcgeeks, androidforums and a few others and they all seem to have their fare share of idiots. Since xda is probably the largest site with the most traffic compared to the others I guess you run the risk of seeing more idiots here as well.
Well said sminker. If people do not like what people post they are just better off keeping it to themselves. Be part of solution not the problem.

Sir you are completely right. People can and will act completely different in this "Alternate Universe" than they will in real life. Why? Becuase they can and it makes them feel a little more "Alpha".
Hey I remember being new to a certain forum not this one though, and asking a simple question. The regular jerks of the forum proceeded to try to make me feel like an idiot. Needless to say my feelings weren't hurt but I guess it's that "Alpha Male" complex.

I'll agree with that.IMO it's just that this phone is a little long in the tooth, and a lot of the really good devs have moved on. Also a lot of the people that were really helpful(not saying all of them, there are still some that help.)have moved on to other phones, and if you look at the sigs. of the mods they are involved with many other phones which eats up a lot of they're time. And I think they're leaving some of the policing to us unless it gets out of hand, like over they're in the thread where it got a little heated....
I'm only posting here because I liked the thread title
I kinda agree with you, I noticed the same thing about the necro bumping.
Another thing, is what happened to the search button?? It seems to have disappeared lately
btw (numder =/= number)
Also Bierce22.. does this thread have anything to do with that deleting emails thread in the Dev section?

You must come from the unix world , to be able to figure linux . Coming from DEC's VMS world , unix never made sense to me .LoL
Also a lot of the grabassing is being done by "senior" members, remember "you can't fix stupid, but ignorance can be taught"
The biggest reason for the influx of new users to the Hero forum is because the phone has become so outdated (especially with Sprint no longer selling it). People are always looking to get the most out of their purchase, and many will wait until their contract or warranty has expired to being modifying their devices.
EDIT: Also, the more cluttered the forum becomes, the more difficult it can be for a new user to search and find what they need. There is so much clutter in the forums now that it could conceivably take hours to find out all the information on all of the available modifications. You could attempt to search for a solution to an issue, only to find several threads saying "please search for a solution" and one thread actually stating the solution. The time when senior users stuck to only posting informative, concise responses has passed.

Off topic i know.. but i think there should be a thread like this in every phone type/model section of the Forum..
i feel so so sorry for Devs who keep on getting harassed for ETAs for their prospective ROMS/Kernels/bowel movements etc... i would just like to tell all those people who say "WAN IZ ICE KREAM TRIFLE WERKING ON MAI SAMZUNG UNIVERSE EGG SANDWITCHHHH???"...
Please make at least ONE New Years resolution..
DONT harass the Devs, they do this as a hobby and members of XDA are not their bosses. this is a surefire way of getting very good Devs leaving XDA completely and even worse get them to stop developing at all...
So please please please... for your own sake and everyone elses.. play nicely, think about what you ask.. otherwise the site WILL suffer..
And in the wise words of Jerry Springer
"Be Good to yourself, and Each other"
Ciao for now..

Well said Nutmegy (and others).
I'm still relatively n00bish, but I've got initiative and a desire to learn everything/anything I can about how this phone ticks. I absolutely agree that anyone who isn't prepared to "do the hard yards" should honestly stick to stock unless/until they are.
This would save a number of people (this number seems to be growing by the week) the grief of "soft bricking" their phone & not being able to use same for however many days it takes to get the advice on here to fix it.

Merry XMAS and a happy new year to you!
If anyone thinks its bad now...then just wait for next year. It will get much worse.
Very simple reason - just do the maths. Last year in Australia alone android had about 20% market share. This year it rose to 48% of all smartphones sold to be the number 1 operating system. All in just one year. I suspect the same pattern is happening worldwide.
So next year it will only increase. Therefore, more users = more xda members so hold on to your seats boys and girls.
And do you know what??? There is nothing you or I can do about it. Shame!
Maybe a silly suggestion and it may be hard to implemented, but xda should have a system where new members need to have been logged in for say 100 hours or have read a certain number of threads before they are allowed to post. Maybe even pop-up messages with basic general information / warnings etc for them as well during the first month/s.
My worry is that it may eventually get so bad that the forum administrators will do something drastic that affects all users negatively.
Sent from my GT-I9100
well if you are just talking about resolutions on here regarding smartphones well i suppose getting stable ICS is one, also i seriously cant wait to get a ASUS Transformer Prime and ill by pass on the Galaxy Nexus and Note both of which i don't believe are as good all round as the SGSII and wait for the SGSIII.
ALSO it would be good if noobs who post duplicate questions without using the search function first get an infraction, there needs to be a disclaimer of some sort when they register for the first time that they need to use the search function first and only if they cannot find the answer to their questions (which is all honesty is unlikely as pretty much everything has been covered on here) only then start a thread.
Finally - it would be good if some people didn't steal other peoples work and pass if off as their own, and remember people play nice as much as you can, all this bickering isn't productive for the forum.

USEFUL ideas instead of *****ing about it all.. but yes some kind of mechanism in place to stop dodgy post.. then at least Forum Admins can say "We told you so"... or indeed the easiest way... and i'm going to whisper this... charge people which could unfortunately be the negative effect that XDA could force on us all..
I know they have put the built in search functionality into the Topic creation field (which has saved me a few times!), but there could be a little bit more as mentioned above.
I re-iterate... we dont want to lose any more devs.. and its the stupid few that ruin it for everybody, i have referred to XDA for a few years now and have found it such a useful resource, a good place to share ideas, help each other out and for Devs/Themers to show off their wares...
LONG LIVE XDA!

Well I know XDA its ment for developers.. And they are kind enough to share their hard work with us.. Bringing new life to our devices and more..
Developers always gets piss off about stupid question and or issues reports without providing a logcat... While I'm agree with this.. I'm not agree with XDA letting average noob post in development section.. Looking at the nature of the forum I can not believe there's isn't a way to block a person from posting in development if that person at least doesn't have (3 months and 350 post) in the forums... That's Imho a reasonable period of learning how to be helpful and provide useful information in development area...
I look at the case of Francisco Franco.. I really enjoy his works and support him a lot.. I had his kernels when I had a Gnex and that + cm9 was the best experience of Android for me.. Then I've sold the gnex and bought the note and one of the reasons I came without thinking was franco kernels does support note.. For my surprise he stopped supporting because of the ****ing trolls about a bluetooth issue in the kernel and so we all rest has to pay for it not haven updates anymore...
Recently he came back and one of the very first welcome post was a random noob asking for the bluetooth again. ... And Ffs I don't want to lose Francisco support again... And he was very clear about it..
I think XDA SHOULD block as I said earlier users with the double conditional of (3 month old account and 350 post) from writing on development.. They could read and download but not write..
Any user with those conditions not only be experienced enough to provide a logcat but will be scared of messing in development because he could get banned and lose his hard work in the account.....
That said I think there is no excuses to do so.. Look also to Entropy... I think the guy gotta buy a new keyboard every day raging at Noobs posting bs in cm9/10 developed threads..
XDA go ahead and take actions before we lose our developers

Wisdom strong in this post is. Franco is a really good developer and I'm sad he left Note. He used to develop for my old Huawei before he left for GNex and his kernel rocked.
But... One shouldn't take the regular forum trolls too seriously. Just leave them crying in their own **** and move own. There is also the report function here.
I agree with you though that there is way too much idiots in the development forums. Just look at the new JB PA 1.1 thread: couple of first pages just full of posts "how do I install this?" "does this brick my phone!?" etc. So annoying to find the actual bug reports or feedbacks through all the ****. This is because people are way too lazy to actually study anything these days. Everything has to brought to them ready and chewed.
Edit: and there is also this one hero that already bricked his note with JB PA because he didn't care to study stuff before flashing. :banghead:

Just report their posts. The mods are also sick of it and are handing out infractions, IIRC. I have yet to see a noob post again after reporting him, so it works very well.
It seems the original dev section doesn't have the 10 post requirement like the normal dev section. And most spam is from people with one or a few posts. It would definitely help to have that 10 post rule there.

We can report.. But that won't stop the developer getting pissed and stopping development..

I don't think post count is a good indicator at all: There are ppl. with 1000+ posts posting general rants in device specific forums...

Tbh there should be a read count for how many threads someone has read. That would just be a little hard to measure.

I certainly agree on you with this one. But like in every other forum and the whole internet, you can't really prevent noobs and trolls. Trolls gotta troll man. Kinda hard to filter them out as it will require the mods to check every single day on every single thread with thousands of post on it and obviously that will take full time. Most of us specially moderators do this for a hobby.
Let's just do our part to make the community a better place. That is reporting trolls. Like the other guy said on the 2nd post, let's just click on that little report button and the mods will take care of the rest or you can just ignore the regular forum troll and move on like most of us do. An old internet saying "Don't feed the trolls" ignore them and the average forum troll will just hunt for the next trollable thread and will eventually get tired, while the persistent ones, well let's just keep on clicking the report button and wait for the banhammer to land
The post requirement or the tenureship in the forum is a fantastic idea though. Maybe even the thanks meter/level, like you could post even if you're not 3 months old or don't have 350 posts but if you do have a certain thanks level/meter you could post and access the restricted area of the forums. No one would press the thanks button if you didn't post something useful right?

put categories as "devs" and restrict allowed posts to those people only. then cross referrence the thread to a discussion page for noobs and others to bash each other.
those who wish to post in the dev section should provide a fully working firmware for downloads and testing purposes for the ones designated as "testers" on xda.
i know its a lot of work, but its a solution if the admin will put the political will to it.

Although you have a point here i really don't like the idea. Ok we need to restrict the troll posts but..... once you were a noob too !!!! What we see now is that this site has grown to numbers never seen before. In the early days there were only a handfull users, a few devices and not much to do. Nowadays if you have a problem EVERYBODY refers to this forum from other places. So basicly we have a flood of new, unexperienced, people that just have one big problem: THEY DON'T READ!!!! I've been a member for a long time now, learned a lot just by reading and only post when i think it's usefull to the comunity. Even after all this time i still sometimes ask questions like a noob, should i be blocked???
There is one solution for this problem: NOT allowing to post untill they have at least read a few posts MARKED as an obligation. But i don't think it's possible.
What we see here is the growing of a forum with soo many devices and people, i think about a year or two this will stabelize :laugh::laugh:

Sometimes the trolls you are referring to are actually innocent noobs who are afraid of bricking their new Notes. They just want to double check some crucial things before attempting risky procedures.
Were we not all noobs at one point in our lives?
I know both trolls and noobs can be really frustrating but many of the members here can be quite impatient, responding rudely and degrading the once-friendly community.
I do agree with you though and I definitely think changes need to be made to ensure the development thread remains strictly development related. But I also think changes should be made to some members attitude too.

I abandoned a forum in my country due to "laws /rules" like that. Things were just getting out of proportion that it is impossible to help people there. Unfortunatly the mods over there think that they are god and if you make a reference about this forum or about rooting you will get banned !!!! I don't think that it's the future of this forum..
Restrict some topics to people that have more then xx months or xx posts will help. But i don't think it's possible to do. And what a bout people like me, i only read here, learn and do not post often. I don't have time to make a rom or custom firmware and come here for leasure ??? Am i elegible for seeing everything...... As you see it is very hard to make the choise about who can have full accesws and who doesn't.
becosemsaida
Write on development section thread should have some restriction.
And thank meter is one good criteria (just being member since long/posting just certain number of post dont make skilled)
if member have at least 10-20 thank meter he/she must have some skill and may not post noob Q.
There is always Q/A section is open for newbies.
this needs to be said.....
i have to call you out on this. The OP has been posting bizarre and rambling questions in DEV threads, getting all pissed off when ppl ask him not too, and has even admitted to not wanting to bother reading the thread because he is not that stupid.
It is people LIKE YOU that are bringing this place down.
If you cant be bothered searching or reading, you DO NOT BELONG on a development website. end of story.
If you want to make your phone look pretty to impress your mates, go some place else. XDA is all about the journey - the end result is not so important. its about trying things yourself and sharing knowledge. If you are just lucky enough, you might even be able to help someone out!
do not come here to whinge and flame others when you break the rules (do NOT post in a dev thread if it is not directly related to the development of that thread).
Also, you have to wonder how a user of 4 months has over 1000 posts, and some members have been here for years with only 500 posts.....

So? When I was uncertain about something I posted it in either the general or Q/A section. Why the hell should anyone be posting questions in the dev section?
And no, despite contrary belief, some people are newbies, some people are noobs. Not everyone used to be a noob. There is a massive void between the two. A newbie is one that is self-learning and is capable of exercising some semblance of common sense with regards to forum rules and forum etiquette when he joins a new forum.
So please, if you want to consider yourself a noob at one point, go right ahead. But do not make sweeping statements that everyone was a noob.
trolls and noobs should rot in hell
as for noobs, reading and jesus saves....

Well clearly my definition of a noob/n00b/newb/newbie is different to yours. So I apologise if my "sweeping statement" offended you (and/or anyone else).
Are we not fighting for the same thing here?

I think XDA should do nothing here.
There are no real reasons to rage at some users posts.
There's nothing SO bad about it.
You can always press 'report' button if some super-mega-trolls come to your thread (I haven't seen any yet)
As for me, XDA community is currently not so friendly as it should be.
Devs raging at most of the posts, advanced users trolling noobs...
That's really not so nice.
Blocking users with small post count or small thanks count, etc is unacceptable in my opinion. Really.
Maybe XDA is meant for developers, but developers can't exist without users they are developing for.
Here is Example, why we should need some control

upgrades to lrk from lrg yesterday. No issues with deep sleep in both 404 version. Battery lasts more than a day. I am a very heavy user. I am satisfied with the performance, battery consumption.
I always factory reset after flashing a rom. You can do that but at your own risk. I am aware of the brick bug but i have don't at least till 40 times on stock kernel and no issues so far.

This I agree, sometimes it's not that they're noob, it's that they're kiasu, as we Singaporeans call it. They spam devs with stupid questions, since it's free to ask anyway, and expect people to be free 24/7 to reply.
Also, many devs hate XDA. Because much dev work is not being appreciated here. In the Acer Iconia A500 section, both devs "Thor2002pro" and "dexter_nlb" have made amazing contributions to the community, but many *******s don't appreciate what they have done. They have left subsequently.
