hey there, before you yell at me to search hear me out.
i followed the tutorial to root my phone from the latest legit version of android. i installed jesesfrekes 1.5 version along with the radio(?) from htc. i figured i would bring it back to the stock version so i did some searching and found that most threads didnt say much but go search! well i did find some hints that people were saying to download the original rc29 dreimg.nbh and power on via camera and power button and go from there. the problem is that when i boot into the phone via camera button and power button, all i see are little androids on skateboards and SERIAL0, with no instructions or prompts to continue. can anyone help me out on what to do from here to get the stock firmware back, and everything back to factory?
thanks in advance!
if you don't see the image update screen before serial0, it means the file DREAIMG.nbh is not on your sdcard or the card is not properly formatted. also note that the whole linux system is published under GPL and Android is an open source project, so mods are strickly legitimate.
You plug in usb cable then hit back button from there. Then it should say fastboot instead of serial.
Two things:
Hey there,
If you want to go back to truly stock, you'll first want to replace your SPL with the stock one. Once you go back to unrooted, you won't be able to do this again without getting root back. So it has to be done first. Right now, you've got HardSPL, or Engineering SPL. Once you reflash back to the ugly rainbow original SPL, I have a feeling you've put the DREAIMG.nbh ZIP FILE on your SD card. Unlike other updates you do in recovery mode, YOU HAVE TO UNZIP THIS ZIP FILE first, and put the unzipped contents (the DREAIMG.nbh file ITSELF, around 95 MB or so) on the SD card. If you just download that zip and put it on there, it won't work.
Good luck.
Ricky
please excuse my ignorance when using the term legitimage, i just did not know what terms to use to accuretly point to what i needed to talk about.
anyways, i think the problem may be that the sd card was not formatted correctly, for the img file is definitly there. i am having a hard time formatting it via pc, since everything i right click on the drive in "my computer" and hit format, the pc says no drive found, and my phone claims "preparing sd card" also, i tried the format option on the phone itself, which apprently did not work.
So you rooted your phone, flashed spl then updated to 1.5?

i am putting the straight nbh file on there, and not the zip, it seems like my problem lies in formatting. and may i ask what you mean by replacing my spl? what is the importance of this, and if it is of upmost importance, how do i go about doing it?
thanks a bunch for the quick responses.

Unfortunately, I have had VERY LITTLE LUCK dealing with my G1 on Vista. Anything other than casually connecting it and transferring files casues the same types of headaches you're experiencing. Trying to scan the disk, trying to format it, fix errors, even eject the disk (safely remove) causes the phone to disconnect and/or Windows to claim not to be able to read it.
I'm not saying Vista and the G1 can't work together well, I'm just saying mine don't. --So I always use my XP machine whenever I try to do anything like that. Other than that, if you're sure you've unzipped your nbh file, sorry I can't be of much help.
after doing a little bit of research i guess i need to change the skateboard version of the spl to the gay pride one for 100percent original correct? how do i do this?
also i updated the radio(whatever that means ) from the HTC website, as per the tutorial. do i have to "downgrade" that as well?
my 2c:
the sdcard has to be formatted as fat32, not fat16. i never had luck with G1 and interfacing with a computer or doing anything like rooting a phone while the sdcard was fat16. works like a charm when its fat32 though.
i managed to get skateboard SPL to recognize my dream image.nbh by formatting the sd card on a windows xp as designdawg mentioned. now im trying to figure out if i need to downgrade the spl and radio, before i flash the dreamimage.nbh on there.

D'OH! It's too late, I think. I told you that on my first post. You must have missed it. In order to change your SPL, you have to be able to flash images signed with the test keys. You can no longer do that because you have RC29 with the stock recovery, which will only flash google-signed keys. The only way to go back to the original SPL is to re-root your phone now.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
oh no! you must have misunderstood, i have not gone back to RC29 yet, i am still on jf1.5 patiently waiting instructions here, haha

Oh. Gooood. Well, all you need to do is download the SPL file for the original, rename it update.zip, put it on your card, home+power to get to recovery mode, then ALT+S to flash your SPL back to original. Then you can use the original SPL (Camera+power) to flash back to RC29. RC29 will reset your radio and everything, so you'll be factory fresh at that point. I would throw an ALT+W in there somewhere to wipe it if I were you, or you can always do it after you've done RC29.
You're ready to go. (I just did all this last night myself).
excuse me if this is a dumb question, but where can i download the original spl? i would search for it but im not exactly sure what to search hah. thanks a lot for helping me out once again. also, would it be okay to alt+w right before i do the update.zip for the original spl?
In case anyone is following and still having trouble with this:
1. Download the Original SPL By downloading G1OrigBootloader_nocheck.zip from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=455860
2. Rename to update.zip and flash via normal Home+Power Method
3. Download Original RC29 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442480)
4. Unzip .nbh file and place in the root of your newly formatted card.
5. Boot with Camera+Power and follow the steps given onscreen to install
6. Don't enjoy losing root : (
EDIT: In order to get to the current build you have to update in steps so after upgrading to RC29 upgrade to RC30 and then to RC33 via http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=479571)
PS I had App2SD for a long time so the SPL would look for my image in the EXT3 partition and then quit when it couldnt find it. So I ended up having to format it completely to FAT32 and then it worked.
Hope this helps
I was a preorder and am sporting HBOOT v.77 ... and had 3 questions:
1) How would I to update to v.79 or higher?
2) If one updates their HBOOT do they have to re-root through the current (not so easy) method or will the custom recovery survive?
3) Any chance that the custom recovery could be patched to also update the HBOOT?
Thanks!
the only way i know of right know is to use ruu that has hboot 79
correct me if im wrong
I originally rooted my day-one purchased inc, which had .77 installed, it was nearly impossible though, I used like 10 different cards and only got in with adb once. I screwed something up though and the su.apk got erased every boot, so I RUU'ed it to .79, and it was just as difficult for me to root it, until I bought the pny 2gig card. Now I am 100% rooted, and I was sure my phone was never going to be because nothing I tried worked until the pny card would work.
yes you can update without loosing root but its tricky to do, here is how to do it allthough there is no benifite.
1 get the rom zip from the ruu
2 rename it to PB31IMG.zip
3 put it on the root of your sd
4 reboot to HBOOT it will search for files on your sd card, take your back cover off
5 when it ask's if you want to up date say yes
6 it will update your hboot and radio than reboot
7 right after the reboot or as soon as the screen goes black than pull your sd card out
8 it will boot in into hboot and you will see that your bootloader was upgraded along with your radio.
9 select reboot than you can put your sd card back in, and when it boots remove PB31IMG.zip from your sd card.
I have done this and can confirm that it works, i did it to see if it would fix my signal issues. Just be warned if you do not pull your sd card out before it loads up the second time you will have to reroot your phone.

so, did it help with any signal related issues ?
Yes it did seem to help a little bit. I'm not dropping down to 1x all the time any more.
There was no change for me between .77 and .79 as far as I can tell.
Does this even do anything on the phone itself??
What im saying is at the moment im running what came with my phone when i first got it, which is 1.22.605.2 Hboot .77... If i ran the RUU file it would update me to 1.22.605.2 Hboot .79... the Hboot is different but the actual software version stays the exact same (1.22.602.2) so nothing in android changes whatsoever it would seem like, and the only difference is Hboot version, does just the hboot update by itself make a difference in the daily operations of the phone?
I get the Blank screen and the logo screen. I think i need the 1.6 update.pkg Build 7921. If anyone knows or can send it to me I'd greatly appreciate it, thanks in advance.
If anyone can see a wrong in my method please do point it out.
When I get 1.6 update.pkg Build 7921
Do I:
Flash the 309 Recovery image
Than install 1.6 update.pkg from the main device menu
that should make it work?
What? ....explain more thoroughly what you attempted...and what you did
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
I rooted my dell streak 1.6 Build 7921 using Z4root. I know it didn't work on my device because i tried running some rooted apps and it didnt run. I tried rooting with Android Universal and it worked! Couple of weeks after i got the OTA update for Android 2.2 Froyo for Dell Streak with Rogers communications.
I tried to install the update, and if i remember correctly, my phone went to a blank screen and was stuck there for long time, I than put update.pkg 2.2 Froyo the OTA update on Micro SD CARD. ON my device I went into the factory reset options by holding volume keys>power button.
I factory reset my device, and rebooted my device with the SD CARD in it and tried installing the "update.pkg" from the main menu option(Option 2) Since than my device wont go pass the DELL LOGO every time I boot.
Its been a weeks time since that happened now in the root of my sd card I have Clockworkmod and update.zip files of 1.6 Build 7921, I also tried flashing 309 Recovery image and a lot of different update.pkg files and still haven't figured out, how to fix my problem.
do you actually have 7921 files? could you upload them? they're not available anywhere if you actually have them
I got my phone equipped with 1.6 Build 7921 but now it doesn't even go pass the DELL LOGO
Hey guys,
So my HD2 recently started having the same issue a lot of you guys are having with the touchscreen just dying or being very unreliable. This past week I've had trouble getting past the lock screen and today it takes me half an hour to a full hour of attempts to make it past the lock. Once I do, however, the screen works fine until it's locked again.
I'm about two weeks away from warranty ending, so I want to get this bad boy sent in ASAP. A year ago I flashed a custom ROM onto the phone and haven't modified it until this morning when I installed MAGLDR 1.13 and NAND Android ROM. The new ROM worked great but didn't resolve the touchscreen issue at all.
What I want to do is completely restore the phone to how I bought it from T-Mobile US a year ago. I don't want the replacement voided because of the custom ROM, though it clearly has nothing to do with the error.
Not being very technically proficient with this stuff (aside form the dozens of hours I've spent reading up), what is the best way to go about this?
So far I tried doing a Hard Reset manually via the VolUpDown/EndCall button boot, but that just booted me into NANDroid after the reset. I tried downloading WinMo from the T-Mo site, but it's asking for a phone identification number I can't access because of the lack of touchscreen access.
Any help/advice you guys can offer would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance!
You can get the IMEI number from behind the battery to download the rom from t-mobile.
This was explained to me by another member here
Right click the ROM file you download from the T-mobile site and rename the .exe to a .zip and then you can explore the file to find the RUU_signed.nbh file. You want to copy the RUU_signed.nbh file to the root of your SD card (make sure it has been formated to FAT32) and rename the file to LEOIMG.nbh. then place the SD card in the HD2. Boot the HD2 imto bootloader and as soon as you see searching on the screen let the volume down button go. It should ask if you want to flash the imageand you will have to press the end button to confirm and it will flash the ROM.

Hi ,
I've done some readin around the forums and struggling to find the right ROM.
I want to change my Magic back to a Stock Vodafone Magic ROM.
Does anyone have one? I thought I'd found one but it didnt work and looking in the ZIP file the files didn't look right (ie lots of image files no folders)
If anyone has one, that definitely works I'd appreciate it
Thanks
Lots of .img files and no folders? Sounds exactly like what you need. You need the stock sappimg for your device, which I'm guessing you found. Rename it to sappimg.zip or .nbh and flash it from hboot (volume down + power)
Hi,
Actually after a bit of digging around in the back of my head and searching some more forums, what I've realised I've got is a nandroid backup as I have the files
Boot, Chache, Data,Misc,System, recovery all img files and then a nandroid.md5 file
So will have a bash restoring that and fingers crossed it will work
EDIT.
OK great that seems to have worked. back to 1.5 Vodafone. Do you know if I need my sim card in to get the OTA update to 2.1 (or was it 2.2?)?
Cheers
Bit of an update,
I downloaded the official RUU....1.91...exe which has the stock 1.6 Vodafone (the nandroind backup I installed wasn't stock after all)
renamed the rom.nbh to SAPPIMG.nbh and and it has now put me to stock 1.6 fine.
However it's been a good half an hour and no update has been pushed yet.
Is this a continual OTA update or have perhaps Vodafone stopped sending it does anyone know?
Thanks
