HBOOT .77 vs .79 - Droid Incredible General

I was a preorder and am sporting HBOOT v.77 ... and had 3 questions:
1) How would I to update to v.79 or higher?
2) If one updates their HBOOT do they have to re-root through the current (not so easy) method or will the custom recovery survive?
3) Any chance that the custom recovery could be patched to also update the HBOOT?
Thanks!

the only way i know of right know is to use ruu that has hboot 79
correct me if im wrong

I originally rooted my day-one purchased inc, which had .77 installed, it was nearly impossible though, I used like 10 different cards and only got in with adb once. I screwed something up though and the su.apk got erased every boot, so I RUU'ed it to .79, and it was just as difficult for me to root it, until I bought the pny 2gig card. Now I am 100% rooted, and I was sure my phone was never going to be because nothing I tried worked until the pny card would work.

yes you can update without loosing root but its tricky to do, here is how to do it allthough there is no benifite.
1 get the rom zip from the ruu
2 rename it to PB31IMG.zip
3 put it on the root of your sd
4 reboot to HBOOT it will search for files on your sd card, take your back cover off
5 when it ask's if you want to up date say yes
6 it will update your hboot and radio than reboot
7 right after the reboot or as soon as the screen goes black than pull your sd card out
8 it will boot in into hboot and you will see that your bootloader was upgraded along with your radio.
9 select reboot than you can put your sd card back in, and when it boots remove PB31IMG.zip from your sd card.
I have done this and can confirm that it works, i did it to see if it would fix my signal issues. Just be warned if you do not pull your sd card out before it loads up the second time you will have to reroot your phone.

so, did it help with any signal related issues ?

Yes it did seem to help a little bit. I'm not dropping down to 1x all the time any more.

There was no change for me between .77 and .79 as far as I can tell.

Does this even do anything on the phone itself??
What im saying is at the moment im running what came with my phone when i first got it, which is 1.22.605.2 Hboot .77... If i ran the RUU file it would update me to 1.22.605.2 Hboot .79... the Hboot is different but the actual software version stays the exact same (1.22.602.2) so nothing in android changes whatsoever it would seem like, and the only difference is Hboot version, does just the hboot update by itself make a difference in the daily operations of the phone?

Rogers magic update freeze/brick

Hello all,
As many of you know Rogers issued an update for 911 issues and sense ui just recently, unfortunately as I attempted the update via SD card method, the first update seemed to have gone well but after once it wanted to reboot it keeps on splashing the ROGERS over and over.
I'm thinking this is most likely because I am rooted and the process just didn't agree.
I am currently running amon ra's 1.2.3 rec. img
with amon ra's 1.6 rom
32A motherboard
BTW I still get to boot when I hold end+vol down
and when I hold end+home I get amon ra's screen but is quickly taken away after a few seconds.
Any help would be much appreciated.

good news and bad news.
good news, im pretty damn sure thats not a brick as you can still get into fastboot (the vol down + power)((atleast thats what i think fastboot is))
bad news, i dunno how to fix it.
i know theres a way to revert to original stock ROM via fastboot, so im sure it is fixable. don't know about custom ROMs via fastboot.
bed time, though. good luck, man, and dont get bummed cause im 99% sure you aren't just plain ****ed.
edit: just noticed screenie, but can't see it because my girlfriends retarded wanna-be stepdad decides to look at pr0n all night and continues to install "mywebsearch" **** and i can't get to it. :/
Hopped on my mytouch, still think your good but let someone else who knows more vertify that.
another option
one other thing you can do,
go to a rogers store, and tell them you tried applying the so called essential upgrade 'b/c you care about your safety' and the '911 issue is a important fix'. tell them you recieved instructions to do w/e it is using the SD card method.
basically, you tried the update ---> phone got messed up.
i know someone else did it and it was grounds for them just giving you a new phone.
not saying 100% it'll work, but its worth it b/c you get a new device with the new ROM on it if it does.
goodluck.

Can you clarify which SD card method? Was it using the official DREAIMG.nbh from Rogers?
I thought that I had bricked my phone because I went for a hail mary attempt to root my phone. But unfortunately it wouldn't get past the Rogers screen.
However, after talking to a CSR, they sent me a link to the Windows 7 file and it rewrote everything back onto my phone and I was able to boot it normally again.

Ya, thanks. I figured I wasn't completely boned.

I had the same problem while installing the new update yesterday. I had to call Rogers to guide me through it and even he couldn't figure it out. My phone just kept rebooting over and over after installing the first update. Even in recovery mode it didn't give me a chance to wipe, flash or restore anything because it would reboot in a matter of 2 seconds. The tech support guy on the phone had no idea what to do. I finally realised that I had a seperate Mini SDcard USB adapter that I could put my SDcard in and then plug into the USB. That allowed me to access my SDcard so I was able to delete the first SAPPIMG and then put the new SAPPIMG from the second update onto the SDcard. I repeated the same process from the first update (I was able to access fastboot without it rebooting), everything installed perfectly and now the phone is up and running great. If you don't have a Mini SDcard to USB adapter I'd suggest picking one up at your nearest Electronics store. I believe I picked mine up at BestBuy for $35 which came with a 4gb class 4 SDcard. The adapter is so small that it actually sits on my key-chain. Hope this helps.

I was rooted before, this is why I'm sure I've had the same problem as many of you. It seems though that this issue doesn't just stop at us... This issue has been happening with many other carriers and I'm not sure why (as of yet). I've flashed dozens of other Sense ROM's and even ROM's without Sense for ei. Espresso and Eclair and they all worked fine before. This new Sense ROM from Rogers is fantastic. So try what I did and you should be on your way with no issues.
Now if only we can root this damn phone.

After the update your phone won't be rooted anymore, therefor your warranty will still be in effect. After flashing the first update it already changes your SPL and Radio therefor Rogers wouldn`t know if you were rooted prior to the update. If you stuck in the boot loop just follow my instructions and you will be home free.

Happy to hear that I could help. They did misname the files but how could you blame someone who goes by the name of Rogers. I have several services with them and it's nothing but headaches with them.
I'm sure it was a rushed update as well. The devs at HTC were probably pressed for time to get this update up and out the door within a couple of days. Rogers will possibly be a major distributor for them in the next upcoming years.
Thanks a lot!
That solved it.
Anyone been able to root this ROM yet..?? I have tryed everything and I just keep semi bricking my phone.. but I can always recover it.

Moving from HBOOT-1.33.0006 without Goldcard

I previously had this phone running Cyanogenmod 6 so skip the n00b bashing. I know wtf I'm doing.
My situation is pretty unique.
I came to Israel from Philadelphia with a myTouch3G about a week ago with Cyan Recovery and Cyan 6 installed. No problems. I put in an Israel SIM Card into my phone and no matter what I tried it would keep crashing the phone process.
Thinking the problem would be fixed if I flashed stock, I did just that and unrooted my phone completely.
The phone is now running stock recovery with 1.6 stock. Israeli SIM card STILL crashes the phone process.
I can't get past the intro wizard because I don't have service. Four corners doesn't work. I would have one click rooted days ago if I could get past it.
My SPL is 1.33.0006 (SAPP300000).
I am trying to get a different SPL onto the phone without a Goldcard so I can root it. I attempted to make a gold card already many times but I had to use a Windows application to get the CID so I don't think it worked because after it analysis the update.zip I get a "Version Mismatch" error.
If someone could recommend a signed SPL that my phone will accept that would then allow me to move on from there I think I'd be able to get past this issue. If I could simply get a custom recovery on this phone I could get back to Froyo where the 4 corners trick does work (or just restore from nandroid back Cyan 6).
The only way I have to copy stuff to an sdcard at the moment is through a working blackberry pearl I have lying around.
Drop me any suggestions. I'll be glad to try them.
Simple... take out your sim-card... then finish the reg part(just skip most of it).. then root... flash custom recovery.. flash eng spl... Full control again :0)
You can also finish the reg part using a wifi :0)
Just take the sim out!
Just tried that. Once I turn the phone on I see the Android intro logo and when I tap it I get a new screen that simply says "No SIM card in Phone" and the only button there is for Emergency calls.
It doesn't let me do anything from that point at all. I can't move past this screen.

MyTouch 3G 1.2 - Removed SD Card Error

Ok first off I wanna let you guys know there is no problem with the SD card or the SD card slot on my phone, the phone WILL read the SD card in fastboot, that is it. The reason I know this is because I can load SAPPIMG.zip from the SD card in fastboot. Long story short I messed up installing radios and the only way to get my phone back to normal was installing the original SAPPIMG for the 1.2 which is where I am now. The main problem is I cannot get this phone to read the SD card.
I have tried fastboot oem enableqxdm 0 but since I don't have Engineerings SPL it won't work. I cannot make a gold card since my phone won't read the SD card, therefore I can't change the SPL. I did manage to root my phone by installing Universal Androot through ADB, but that's as far as I got. I pretty much know what the problem is, when I run fastboot oem boot I can see board_sapphire.disable_sdcard=1 when it should read =0. How can I go about fixing this? I've tried everything I could think of including loading a custom recovery but that won't work either. No matter what the phone won't read the SD card except in fastboot, not even recovery. I'm pretty sure there has to be a way to fix this but after searching for hours and hours I couldn't figure anything out.

well, I have the same problem as you do, now I've got an idea but I can't try it at present. The golden card might has nothing to do with your device, so you may borrow your friends' android device to creat a golden card and then, you can try to flash the sapping.zip
I'm not positive on this so hopefully someone else can confirm.
My idea, since you already have root, would be to use ROM Manger to install a custom recovery (either Amon Ra or ClockworkMod), boot into recovery, and flash the sappimg.zip (the one used to get the 2010 engineering SPL) to achieve access via fastboot. Then you could fix your SD problem since you seem to already know how to handle that part and just reflash the stock bootloader/radio. Or you could do as the previous person stated and use another Android phone to create a goldcard and run that method.
I tried ROM Manager but the progam is basically useless because it always says it needs an SD Card to do anything. I'm guessing I just need another android device to make a gold card and I should be fine
Hi, i had the same problem, but with unrooted phone.
i finally managed to set board_sapphire.disable_sdcard=1 to board_sapphire.disable_sdcard=0
in fastboot mode run this command in cmd:
fastboot oem enableqxdm 0
and then this:
fastboot -c board_sapphire.disable_sdcard=0
after that i obtained working sdcard.
Now i have problem with unrooting my magic. It reboots/crashes at recovery mode so i can't update the eng spl.

hello, have your problem been solved?
Have you tried unrooting using universal androot, then putting in the SD card? My sd card starting erroring up after I rooted using androot, but a quick unroot and reroot fixed the problem. Let me know!

sappimg
i had that same problem and i had the sappimg file on my sdcard and it did the same thing. I removed the sappimg file when i didnt need it anymore and i think it stopped. my phone got buggy recently so i went back to the regular firmware and i had to put the sappimg file back on to load from bootloader. and i noticed that my sd was having a problem again. i am going to take the sappimg off of the sd card and test it out for a while to see if i have any problems so im about 80% sure thats it but i will let you know if i find out anything else

Trying to unroot Evo after using Simple Root

I'm trying to get my phone back to stock because i used Simple Root v.1 when it came out last year. I need to bring my phone to Sprint because my USB port is defective and won't charge anymore. I have a hardware 2 version of the phone. Not sure if that helps or not.
This thread (i would post in there but it says i must have more than 10 posts to do so) says i can just flash a stock signed rom, but my phone says "S-off" even though i never used unREVoked forever. Do i just flash the rom anyway?
How will i know (or Sprint) once i flash the stock rom if my phone is stock with no root?
Download the Unrevoked S-on zip, place that on your sd card and flash it like you would anything else.
After that, download the PC36IMG.zip for the 3.70 OTA here (the one in the OP of the link you posted is out of date, I know b/c I just used it last week):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884060
Rename the file so it says PC36IMG.zip and that is the full exact name, remove all the other crap.
Place that on your sd card, turn the phone off and power on while holding vol down. This will take you to hboot where it will read the PC36IMG.zip. Follow the on screen instructions to update and you will be unrooted.
Once you do that, power off again and go back to hboot by holding power+vol down (same as before). Once you get to hboot, and it says s-on, you will know you unrooted.
So i tried the unREVoked S-on tool and my phone still says S-off. I tried it three times and no change.
Should i go ahead and just flash the stock 3.7 ROM? I downloaded it already, changed it to say PCIMG36.zip, and moved it onto my SD card.
Currently trying to get my phone charged up to at least 30% before flashing the ROM but it is such a pain to get my phone to charge. If i move the charging wire around i can get the charging light to come on but i never know if it is really charging because most of the time i'll turn my phone on and it is only charged to 5-7%.
I don't think it will work if your are s-off. Try redownloading the s-on.zip, esp if you dl it from your phone.
Edit: Just making sure you flashed the s-on zip from recovery?
Yes, i flashed the unrevoked tool from recovery and it says it installed successfully but it still says s-off.
I think that was toasts methods they used back then.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
So i went ahead and just flashed the 3.7 stock ROM and it worked. It says S-on and looks to be back to stock. Unfortunately, the local sprint repair store just closed so i will bring in my phone tomorrow. It will be nice to have a phone that charges again. I guess i should be happy it happened two months prior to my one-year manufacturer warranty expiring.
Thanks for the help guys!
Anytime, glad you got it sorted.

[GUIDE] How to restore wildfire to its original state after Cyanogen and other stuff

Hi Guys, long time no see...
Here is my second tutorial for stupid thing like resetting HTC Buzz to its original state... After googling, and looking for solution how to get rid of modded roms and recoveries, i have done this on my own (like everytime i do)...
OK Before we start, i will say that you loose root, and any modifications you made to your phone... You will have clean FROYO as you had when bought your phone. Ideal for warranty reasons...
Lets do this recovery stuff...
1. Make sure you have empty 2 gb SD card
2. Format it to FAT 32 filesystem
3. Download stock rom from HERE and transfer it to root of your SD Card
4. Put SD card with file to your phone
5. Hold VOLUME DOWN and turn your phone on holding mentioned button.
6. You will enter HBOOT mode. After second or two, HBOOT will check image files on SD card...
7. After loading file from SD card, phone will ask you to update 8 files. Confirm it with VOLUME UP button
8. Don't remove battery from phone untill everything is finished.
9. After successful update, repeat step 5 with removed SD Card, and do Delete user settings (restore).
10. After 10 minutes your phone will boot Latest stock FROYO image
This tutorial is made for people who want to restore stock image because of warranty reasons, or just tired of cooked roms...
Point 3 is missing the link to the PC49IMG Stock ROM ZIP. FYI
Also, this does not remove S-OFF, so you might want to link this thread to your post as well. (For warranty reasons)
