Very Weird Startup Error - BLAC100 32M / SPL-1.14.0000 Serial - Touch HD General

I've had this come up three days in a row now.
All the time it has happenned presumably overnight as when I attempt to wake the phone up from standby it shows me this.
I also suspect a battery problem as it was full overnight and I have been recharging it and it's only up to half-way. If the problem occurs again tomorrow morning, I'll check how much battery is left upon successful startup.
Any ideas?

This is bootloader mode!

It looks like the phone is being rebooted at some point and going into bootloader mode. This can only be achieved by holding down the lower volume button while powering up.
Have you scheduled a nightly reboot and if so is it in a tight fitting case that might be inadvertently pressing the lower vol button?

it may be a dirty or broken lower Volumekey that is hanging. Try to open your case and clean it

My volume rocker has been causing problems for about two weeks now. It sometimes goes up but a lot of the times it tries to lower the volume. I have opened up the case but can't find anything that looks out of shape or out of the ordinary.
I'll have a look at it again tonight and see if anything else is jamming it.
Thanks guys.

Still strange though 'cos it would also need a reboot too for it to put you in bootloader

Maybe a night backup schedule or a rom with the reset manager active?

May be some app (set up deliberately to reset) or some other app unintentionally crashing can cause this in presnce of a stuck vol down button.
ROM with reset manager unlikely as his book loader shows factory SPL

It didn't happen this morning or during the rest of today.
However, the volume button was stuck.
I also notice that the battery depleted substantially to the [ ]! mark.
I posit that the volume rocker is stuck at random times and when the screen is not switched off it obviously drains the battery leading to a reset.
Any tips on unblocking that volume rocker? I've tried to press out the button but it's not really working. There doesn't seem to be much I can do

I get the same error when i try to install an updated radio. Here's what i did:
- Used _HTC Touch HD_RUU_BlackStone_HTC_WWE-AFK_Radio_52.69.25.37_1.17.25.09_Only.exe
- versions: official dutch rom 1.56.404.1 (43972) NLD with radio 1.13.25.24, protocol 52.62.25.34W
- Put the NBH file on a formatted 6gb sdhc card
- Rebooted: long press power, short press power with volume_down pressed.
- I get the same screen with "Serial" on the bottom and no prompt.
I've read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=508717 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3438549&highlight=serial#post3438549. But, I haven't got any Xp machine (except virtual machines in Win7, which i don't trust for this matter), so using softspl is not an option either.
Can anyone help me? Should i buy a 2gb sd (non-hc) card perhaps?

x7501 trouble with wake-up.

I just got my advantage a couple of days ago. i haven't had much time to use it yet, because of work. i haven't installed any sofware. Sometimes my device simpy won't wake-up. After soft feset, the only thing i did was connect a bluetooth headset, which worked fine. I turned off the screen, and when i came back to my device, about two hours later, it would not wake-up. I had to soft reset. This has happened a few times. Also, its very slow with entering text (When i finished typing the word 'text', 'soft reset' was just being entered on the screen.) It would be worse, but i stop to let it catch up, and check for typos.
It is really annoying to buy a new device and have to put up with this crap. Any help is appreciated.
If it were me, I would try a 'Hard Reset' and if that did not clear up the problem, call HTC for a warranty replacement. Hard Reset is hold the volume slider down while clicking the reset button on back of the device.

I'm not having the issues with it not waking up, but recently I've had the issues with randomly occuring extreme slowdown, similar slow text entry, quick battery run down and insanely slow screen redrawing and general responsiveness to hardware of screen based input. I've tried soft resets, hard resets, trying to isolate software that might be causing it. So far it seems that the Illiumsoft Newsbreak feed reader I had been using for months without issue might be related to the problem, but I'm wondering if the problem isn't software specific but actually just related to data downloading activity. Thus far, I'm a couple days in without Newsbreak and no occurances of the problem...
Have you tried tapping the button on the lower right side of the phone (power button) sometimes mine does the same thing, good luck...TJ
i am going to hard reset, but with no software installed i dont know that this will help. i am considering switching to the (whats it called, black touch) rom. i dont know f this will help my current issue, but it sure looks nice. on all of my previous devices, i've always used the factory rom, and i'm somewhat clueless and intimidated by the whole process. I just dont want to screw up my new device. if anyone can help with any of these issues, please do.

Concerning the warranty replacement, i bought this from a guy on ebay. It was still in the sealed box with compusa sticker on it, but i'm not sure if the warranty is transferable. Maybe if i could get him to send his receipt I would covered at least from his date of purchase. Anyone know specifics about the manufacturers warranty?

Perhaps you could help me fix that problem by telling me how to install the black touch rom without screwing it up.
I'm obviously no developer, nor expert in any type of computer skills. I come to this forum because I love the device, my issues are usually resolved after some discussion here, the people are mostly friendly, and i'm interested in making my device better. I just need some help to do so.

If you press the power quickly and lightly it should come back to
standard Today screen versus pressing and holding which brings up
the power off "pop up",at least that how my 7501 responds.
You may want to try that hard reset then play with Start/Settings
/System/Power.

i understand that the buttons respond differently depending on how you press them (press and release, press and hold, etc.) The problem is sometimes, usually when i'm working and away from my phone for awhile, the device simply won't wake-up (power button or any other button pressed in anyway does nothing.) after a soft reset eveything seems fine. this has probably happened 4-5 times in 3 days. After hard reset its only happened once.
Sometimes my device doesn't seem to respond when i plug in the charger, nothing lights up. I've also noticed everytime i check .the battery meter, its alway a denomination of 10 (10%, 20%, 30%). I was sure this was going to be a great device, but i'm beginning to have my doubts.

I had experienced this before but it is so rare that it's hardly worth mentioning. Are you using WM5 or WM6?
It is normal that the battery strength shows in increment of 10%.
If hard reset does not solve the problem, I would try to re-flash the ROM and see if the problem goes away.

HTC HD power off problems

Hello,
I have a problem with my HTC HD. From time to time it shuts down without any reason. When I press the power button I can see the Windows Mobile starting...
Did any body else had this problem?
Is there a solution for this?
Thank you
perhaps your battery is not positioned properly or sitting a bit loose? Try a post-it (or something else thin) on the back of the battery cover..
Mine shuts down and won't turn back on without a reset every time I'm in an area with no signal, it basically stays off while I'm at work.
if you keep getting these kinds of nondescript errors and it survives a hardboot, basically there are three options left:
1) try to flash a different firmware or
2) take it back to the store (flash back first)
3) hope like hlll some guru here gets an eyefull of your problem and knows a quickfix (slim chance seeing the number of daily new posts here and the typical guru tendency towards development as opposed to a supportdesk)
I'd set my hopes on 1) or 2). Good luck however you choose.
Cheers,
Rick
Guys,
I'm having quite the same problem: the touch HD keeps turning on and off automatically, as if the power button is pressed (but its not).
Moreover, the power button just don't work. I press it and nothing happened.
I have master reseted the phone and also have changed its ROM, but the problem stills.
Unfortunatelly I'm start thinking that its a hardware problem.
I guess that a solution shoul be reassing the power button, disabling it. Is there any app through which I can reassing the power button?
Have you solved the problem? I have a similar prob, my power button doesn't seem to work when i press it, and if i soft reset (through HD Tweak) when it boots I get a warning message saying " Warning your device will power off and you'll lose your data, Yes No".
It's like the button is half pressed all the time.
Couldn't find any info on hard key remapping either.
I used to have a similar problem but it was with the screen....
The screen used to turn off suddenly without a reason but the phone is turned on and I keep receiving calls. After returing back to my Supplier in Egypt they replaced it with a new one after testing it for three days.
I'm using the new one sine 20th of December 2008 and nothing happened again
Well if you guys are in the US (or have HSDPA/UMTS disabled) then re-enable them (that should hopefully get rid of the restarts in low-to-no-signal areas).
Hope it helps

Big problem with HD2. Need help please.

Hi all, I've a big problem with my HD2. It was working fine for two months, but last week, with the battery very low (2 %) started the problems. I've tried to do almost anything, Hard Reset, install official Roms, custom Roms, (always with MTTY) and still the same.
In short, these are the symptoms:
1 .- Right Button (Power Button) does not work.
2 .- The Action Screen (thas should start by Long pressing the Power button), always starts at the boot.
3 .- I can't switch off the HD2. I can only do it by removing the battery completely, and as soon as I put it in the device, always restarts by itself.
I think it must be something regarding the BIOS (and is not deleted when reflashing the ROM) what is causing this behavior. I don't know if through the registry could be fixed this but it is my hope.
I hope anyone can help me. Thank you very much
Reflash, but, use Task29 or MTTY first. That will complete format your device, so you will get a completely fresh/clean flash.
Im positive that all of this is caused by a stuck power button. Its just pressed all the time, and therefore it cannot be pressed. Hope this helps.
yea I agree it sounds like a faulty button, or maybe circuitry beneath the buttons.

Qtek 9090, strange problems with power

Cero92 said:
Hi all, i just got a Qtek 9090 with WM2003 (ITA). I upgraded to WM6.1, but now it has some strange problems: first of all, when it goes in standby, sometimes it doesn't wake up. If i have to reset it, most of times it doesn't boot (it shut down before WM loads) or i get R: None G: None and i have to reset again (otherwise the phone won't work).
The lock at the boot doesn't happen when the phone is connected at the USB port (i think that's because it charges, maybe it's a battery problem?)
Another thing is that i can't turn it off: if i hold pressed the power button, it deactivate the backlught but the device stays on, and if i make another long press, i get the backlight back again... I had this problem also with WM2003, maybe it's normal?
What do you think? Whan can i do?

Have you make a HardReset?
The correct HardReset, not only reset and press Power button!!!
See in my HowTo Section...
and why not WM6.5.5 see here
yep, hard reset is a good start, but about your other problems:
the device does not really turn off, like other phones. pressing the power button makes it go to hibernate, the display turns off, depending on your settings, it locks the hardware buttons and it shuts off wi-fi, it hardly uses any energy but gsm/gprs stay on.
the device seems to be off, yet the phone is one and you can be called. that is the closest you get to switching it off. when you turn on airplane mode, the battery consumption is even less so there is not really a need to turn it off.
pressing and holding the power button always was for the backlight. many other devices open up a shutdown menu when you do that, that would allow you to turn it off, soft reset, or switch off the backlight, but for the BA, that is not the standard. however, if i read it right, d-two is working on remapping the power button, probably for that cause.
the R: none G: none issue is known and not a problem with your phone, whenever you run out of power or remove the battery for a second, the next boot will be w/o radio (R and most roms don't allow booting without it. that's why you get stuck there and have to perform a soft reset. back in the days of wm2003 i used to remove the battery when the device froze to reset it w/o the stylus, because it didn't matter then. with cooked roms, it is different, just like the booting splash screen or the way to perform a hard reset, many things change on a cooked rom.
the issue with waking up from standby, or the SOD (standby of death) is an issue, that most likely has something to do with a backup, restored after flashing another os, or maybe you didn't perform a hard reset, as stated by d-two. you should do that, now that the device is still new, you have nothing to lose
also, read through the tutorials posted by d-two and myself, whether you missed anything while flashing.
The "real" hard reset is the one i can get by pressing camera + record button and reset? If so, i already did it after flash (i use d-two 6.1 Manila ROM in WWE)
It shows me 3 options, i put on YES "Clean Registry Hive" and "Format Storage" then i press the mail button, the screen become white for a while and the next boot al seems to be ok.
It seems, because after some time i get again the "standby of death" and, if i press the reset button, the most of time it won't boot up again (it turns off before i can get to WM), if it works phone doesn't. All these boot problem can be avoided by connecting the phone to the usb cradle, so maybe it's also a battery problem, i think...
@ d-two: i'll try your new ROM, however before i've tried your 6.1 ROM
I've already read your guide because i've got Windows 7 and i couldn't flash without your tutorial
NEWS: installed d-two new ROM, after flash i made the hard reset selecting the second and the third options, then i get the blank screen and, when viewing the htc screen, it shut down itself like it did before
As always, with the usb connected, it has no problem :\
It can be battery power - battery is old, and it doesn't provide current [A], or voltage drops [V] and phone think, it's empty.
Maybe you can try with new battery, or buy 2 nokia bl-4c batteries and repair orginal battery (somewhere on forum there is a tutorial about that - but use bl4c, not bl5c like in tutorial - bl5c are too thick to fit)

That's what i was thinking (and that's i hope it isn't)... Now with another recharge cycle it seems to be good also with cooked ROMs, i hope it's solved
Maybe you just have to charge/discharge it for 4-5 times, and it will restore it's capacity. Mine BA was turning off when battery indicator was showing ~60-70%, and now I'm waiting for new battery (i destroyed original )
"charge/discharge it for 4-5 times" does not have an effect on Li-ion kind of batteries. This is probably a software problem. When you turn your phone on (after removing a battery) it always shows "None" for R and G, so just press Reset button and it will be ok. I use Reset to power it on Then you can flash 6.5.5 which doesn't have problems, and do a hard reset. There should be no problem at all..
I also got the problem with the stock ROM :\
The R: None G: None error is the less important problem
Got any luck fixing it? I've had similar problems before, sometimes it turned itself off when the battery was at 60% in WM2003. Did you update to d-two's 6.5.5?
Yes, now i'm running d-two's 6.5.5 ROM.
No, i still had the problem Yesterday i called to the assistance service and they said me to remove the battery and after a while recharge it.
I put off the battery yesterday at 16 and i put it again in the phone this morning at 8, i charged it but i still have the problem
This evening i called again and they said me that i have to send it back, i'll flash the original ROM and send it on monday.
That's a shame, i really like this device, even if it's not mine, my sister uses it and she's not a pro user, what a waste
Didn't understand, what "assistance service"? This is very old phone, I just can't believe it has some kind of warranty
I have another battery, and using it the device turns it off sometimes while it's in the stand-by mode! Don't know why, the voltage on it is fine, I have measured it while working...

I bought it on an eBay market and it offered 60 days warranty. It's not official HTC/Qtek warranty, but it doesn't make difference, as long as the device will work
If for you it happens only when it's in standby, maybe you just have the standby of death, the problem Chef Tony was talking about at post 3?

Press & Hold for 15 seconds to power up?

My wife's N7 sometimes starts normally, but very often you have to press and hold the power button for at least 15 seconds before you get the boot screen google logo.
I have searched but not found a thread dealing with this issue. I do not have the powering off/battery status issues, the tablet ALWAYS boots up, just that it seems very odd you have to press and hold the power button for so long sometimes. EDIT... HERE is a similar thread.
Any ideas if there is some fix for this?
The tablet is on Kitkat OTA update.

Your device is not shutting down properly. For me if i load a bad kernel or do some thing nasty in kernel settings then device some times goes into sleep of death. It is on but not responsive. You are just pressing power button for 15 sec to reboot it. Plz update your kernel if u have custom kernel or check settings if u have changed any. And if u haven't done any thing then start paying attention to apps after which these problems start to happen.
Factory reset would also fix the issue.
P.s: do not undervolt if you are and if custom kernel then try increasing lowest cpu state frequency to 200+. Just a thought. Not every device can handle all kernels.

So that seems to point at HARDWARE being the problem... since after Factory Reset it cannot be software, and since I have STOCK kernel STOCK firmware, it cant be the ROM...
ah well... just have to live with it, it seems... though it does behave as though it is not shutting down properly.

Same here...device is untouched, no root, no custom rom etc.
At first after unboxing i thought the nexus was doa, untill i realised that you have to keep pushing power button for 13 seconds!
What i hate even more: it's still on 4.3 because OTA updated doesn't work!

-downloading update
-confirming "restart and install update"
-nexus turns off
I would really really appriciate some help!
PS: i do NOT want to update via usb to computer connection
Here is a thread with some good fixes for the hard start problem (hardware problem):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2090826
If an app was causing SOD when shutting down, a factory reset would resolve it.
Should also check bootloader to be v4.23
Start the device by pressing n holding PWR + VOL DWN until you enter the bootloader.
The info should be somewhere along the left-bottom side of the screen.
Once u get the version number, use vol up/down buttons to navigate until u reach power off.
Press power button to confirm power off.
Start normally/whichever way currently works for u.
Used to have this hard start problem alongside touchscreen problems.
Under the nexus's back cover are actually some antenna pins along with some grounding pins.
Sometimes these pins corrode or have poor contact, then it causes some electrical abnormalities.
Try to clean these pins with an cotton earbud and some metal cleaning solution. Stuff like carb sprays for example. Nothing oil based. Wet the bud a little with your solution and clean gently. Then use a dry bud and gently wipe dry the pins and all residues. Repeat a few times if needed.
Also try to push the pins outward so it will have more contact with the back cover.
!!Be very gentle and use minimal pressure, these pins break easily and if they do you will need a new board.
Other than that, check the battery connector too. Unplug and replug. Or other suggestions/solution in the thread above.
Good luck!
Word of advice be extra careful when messing with bootloader. I have seen many loss their devices because of simple yet stupid mistake.
Please ignore my spelling mistakes, English is not my native language and i hate on screen touch keyboards.
