hi all
I've read lots of articles on flashing to duty's rom but I need a bit of guidance
I've currently got a orange uk rom and its 1 .4
i,m a bit confused about how I proceed. I really don't mind reading articles but they all seem to cover lots of situations and this is where I get confused
I need to know what to do with a virgin device.
I take it I use uspl
I'm not sure about this new version 1.53
I read a dummies guide to flashing, them I read somewhere there is a tool released that does it
g think my problem is I've read too much and 90 % of it is outdated stuff or stuff that doesn't apply to me as I've never flashed before
I'm quite happy to read some tutorials but I just need to know what I'm looking for and what to avoid
I really didn't want to post about this as I thought I could figure it out so sorry for yet another one of thee posts
I'm with you on this, I'd like to flash to possibly one of Dutty's Roms but have no idea what USPL, hard spl is etc. Even though I've read the wiki's numerous times.
Me too. Am a complete novice but followed the very clear instructions on how to flash my touch pro and to my shock and surprize I actually did it. Wish I could say the same for the guide on flashing the HD. Everytime I read it I end up in a daze. Can a senior member have pity and clarify and simplify?
thetouchhdsite.com/blog5.php/2009/04/13/dutty-s-hd-v2-7-rc-xtreme-released
that article is basic but very relevant
would appreciate peoples comments if this is all we need to do / best method for where we are.
Dummies guide for flashing 1.56 roms
I have just done this very thing using USPL following the excellent guide at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505377
This guide is a sticky in the Blackstone ROM development forum and is helpfully named "Dummies guide for flashing 1.56 roms"
If you read the thread that follows the guide you should find any answers to questions you have regarding the flashing process.
Compact .NET 3.5
Im a total noob and im ashamed!
Ive read alot of applications need .NET 3.5 framework or sumthing.. how do i install it into my HD? or do i install it into my pc?
Compact Framework
I think you are referring to .NET Compact Framework 3.5.
Download to your PC from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=E3821449-3C6B-42F1-9FD9-0041345B3385&displaylang=en and run it with your HD connected through ActiveSync.
This will install it on your HD.
Tutorials
As a fellow noob who recently successfully flashed a new 1.56 ROM to his HD it does take quite a bit of reading but the info is all out there in the forum.
I would recommend reading the 3 part wiki starting at http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blackstone_Flash1 which covers the basics and describes HSPL and SSPL.
Then read the USPL thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=462347 which explains how to use USPL.
Following this the Dummys Guide I referred to above should be a little easier to follow. Good luck.
I'm also a beginner when it comes to flashing ROMs...
I purchased my HD from Orange and has the standard 1.14 ROM on it, will I notice much difference by upgrading to the 1.5 ROM?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZ1M8-P1Yiw
This is for flashing a custom WM 6.5 rom but the procedure is more or less the same.
I would recommend 1.56 HSPL (HSPLWrapper_Blackstone_156OliNex.zip) instead of the one shown in the video as this is the latest and allows you to flash to the latest and greatest ROMs.
IMHO:
If you're planning to flash many times and try out different ROMs then use HSPL. If you think you're unlikely to flash many times and want to retain your original SPL for warranty purporses then use USPL..
You can also revert back to your original SPL even with HSPL but just requires a little more work.
Personally I just followed the steps in HSPL.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=431217
Once HSPL is on your device. Flashing roms becomes a breeze especially with microSD method.

Okay, I'm definitely new to this, so I've been doing a ton of reading to learn all I can about roms, etc. I notice that everyone says if you use hard spl, you are less likely of bricking your device. I'm not sure I understand quite how it works, when to do it, what it does, etc. I'm running the stock rom, and I see that I need to do a hard flash first, and then follow the noob's guide to flashing. I've searched the forum, and I've downloaded the latest version of hardsplicev7...but before I do anything, any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys...

How to Hard-SPL
Are there any detailed instructions available on how to Hard-SPL? I've tried the various threads in xda but can't seem to get anywhere. Obviously, I'm doing something wrong ... looking for detailed instructions with all the files or maybe perhaps a video showing the steps.
Thanks in advance
ilikepu....it turns out, after a lot of reading and studying, you don't need to hard spl to run open touch. I am HAPPY to say, I finally installed open touch v3.0 biggie, and I am blown away at how much better it is than the stock rom. I feel like a kid at Christmas!
hohoeyo, there are some threads with info on how to hard-spl.

or
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=358225
you should try 4.0 i like it a lot
What's the difference between the 3.0 and 4.0??? Also, it looks like 4.0 doesn't have the touchflo and voice command. It's either one, without the other, or vice-versa
Greetings & Salutations,
I want to update my current WM6.1 professional to WM6.5!
I am very eager to work in WM6.5 environment.
After reading a tonnes of thread around at XDA I am even more confused.
And being a NEWBIE have added the ice on the cake.
Any Master out there who can help me out?
Please I want a procedure to updated my WM!
step 1:
search topics about USPL. u need to do that first to prepare your phone for custom 6.5 roms
step 2:
pick a 6.5 rom of your choice and flash your Artemis
be sure to follow exact steps as described in the topics if else your phone will be "bricked"
hi,
In my opinion 6.1 is more suitable for processor 201Mhz. But you can try shady 313 ROM.

One question...
How to choice the best ROM when you are new in this?
the first question is valid, it's needed a step by step for dummies, reading the whole forum is way complicated for normal people.
I understand your confusion. We all had to go through the first phase of reading up. None of us instantly knew what to do and which ROM was the best. Just try and find out, that's all I can give you.

A Goldcard is an SD memory card with special content. It allows to flash different ROMs than the original if you want.
Please read the specific thread (use the search function) on how to make one. But only if you really need or want one.
The need for a Goldcard was important in the first weeks after HD2 became available. It was only possible to flash another ROM with a Goldcard, but a few weeks later, first SSPL came, then HSPL.
You don´t have to MTTY your device, but it can be recommendable. Many people instead flash an official ROM between different custom ROMs.
After installing HSPL, you can flash any ROM you like - some of them come with a Radio ROM, some not (please read each ROM thread carefully). Watch out for 2.xx ROMs - do NOT, definitely NOT flash them with the SD card method. As an option, you could flash using SSPL (not for Radio ROMs though) - or a Goldcard (not many people do this these days).
For more detailed information, please read this tutorial, and/or watch some videos here.
And for the next time, please try using the search function and check the stickies in each forum first - you will find key information everywhere.
Hello Everyone,
I need some help and I would appreciate some feedback. Hope I wouldn't have to bore you with a lot of questions here. I just bought an HTC HD2 mobile phone (Model: T8585) WinMo 6.5 Professional with the following software specs:
SPL: SPL 1.66.0000 XE
ROM Version: 1.72.162.0 GER
Radio : 2.07.61.22_2
Protocol Version: 15.32.50.07U
OS Version: 5.2.21869
The problem is that the OS is in German and I want to change this to English. The phone is not locked to any network. I can use any mobile operator's simcard. In fact, I am currently using O2 simcard, although I bought the phone from vodafone germany. The thing is that it looks like the hardware is locked to vodafone's custom german OS, I tried to install an english OS and it failed with an error like "invalid ID" or something. I have read through a few threads here but I thought of explaining my situation here first before proceeding with anything.
So my first question is, can I use the HSPL3 in this case and what kind of ROM will I be able to flash my htc hd2 with after HSPL3? Secondly, can I still maintain my radio software without flashing a new one after hspl3? Thirdly, what's the difference between a cooked rom and a stock rom? Lastly, when a phone is bricked, does it also mean the phone is dead? Can a dead phone be reversed?
I am sorry but I'm a little bit new with HTC. It's my first smartphone actually The first 2 questions are the most important of all.
Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you

Dear user, first of all welcome on xda.
Secondly tray to use the search option, so the next time you don't need to wait till someone answer you.
A lot of new users have mostly the same question, so the answer was alreddy bean given in the past.
But okay, Now I'm replaying your questions, way not help you out.
About your question if you like to stay on stock Rom, but you will have a other language take a look on this thread, read and follow the instructions and all will become Okay.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=642486
Fore your latest question about the deferent between Stock Rom and Custom Rom, well the there are deferent builders, but the idea is the same. building a Rom with the latest packaging and build on the needs of the followers.
So you will see and find lot of different, the biggest different between the custom Rom's is style!
Take a look on this thread fore finding custom Rom's and read the sticky threads first! there is a lot of usfull information on it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=534
Fore replaying your question about HSPL, this will depends of your choice of your Rom, some Rom builders will advice you to use HSPL2 (1.66) some will advice you HSPL3 2.08, ... it depends of the Rom, and the conclusion of the Rom builder based on his test's.
I hope you have now some more information,
Best
Kurt

this method will work, but requires making a gold card which isn't free.
much easier to use hspl and then flash a stock rom in your preferred language.
if i were the op i would
1 install hspl2,(hspl3 offers nothing that hspl2 can't do, hspl3 is not "better" or a higher version, it just supports tmous phones, that's all. hspl2 is more useful to regular hd2 users.)
choose either 1.66.hspl or 2.08.hspl, doesn't really matter, you can change it whenever you like.
2 flash the rom of your choice.
you can also search for UK serial and download and flash the latest rom that way, again a search will find all you need
I am so pleased with your feedback. I guess I should have taken some time to go through all the threads on this site, instead of creating a thread which has questions which have already been answered on older threads. But I appreciate your responses
I have to admit that whoever created Hspl is just genius. I followed hspl3 installation guide and now I have been able to flash an European stocked WWE ROM (english) on my german carrier ROMed HTC. I took the S/N from one of the links Kurt provided. It's perfect now, although I am still a bit cautious and hoping nothing happens to my phone. I read a few scary threads here where some people, after some days, complained that their phones died after flashing with hspl. But I have the feeling that if one follows the steps correctly and consider the requirements keenly, probably nothing will happen. That's what I did.
Thanks a lot to you and all the guys who've contributed one way or the other on this site. I am sure I'll be back, maybe not with questions but contributions Thank you so much.

I know a lot of people will be coming into this thread to berate me, telling me to read the stickies and search the forum.
I have read the stickies and searched the forum, but the tutorials all assume a level of knowledge I don't have. Please don't get angry at me.
I've recently purchased a European-spec HTC HD2 in order to run Rafpigna's latest DHD build, Rafdroid HD 4.0.1. I've read multiple guides and tutorials and I still don't quite grasp the fundamentals of what I'm supposed to be doing - I've never rooted an Android device before or flashed a custom ROM, and I'm worried I'll mess something up.
With that said, I was wondering if anybody who was experienced at flashing Android to the HD2 could help me out doing it my first time? Specifically, I don't understand the SD Card partitioning process and what ClockworkMod is or how to use it. I haven't actually found explanations for these things, as everything I've read assumes you already know what they are.
Could somebody help a brother out?
Again, if you feel the need to have a go at me for not being able to do this myself, consider this - not everybody on XDA is as tech savvy as you. I come here to talk mobile devices and see what developers are up to, but I am not myself very experienced under the hood.
Thanks for reading,
zuka
Look at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11097380
It's really easy and very detailed, step by step guide of all steps you need to do in order to get Android running on your HD2
Rafdroid in his topic also details all steps
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=908528
As to the sd partitioning part - look at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10654666#post10654666
ROMs that are based on Desire HD ones are just too big to fit in HD2 International - so they use ext partition on SD card to keep data (after partitioning you'll have two partitions on SD card - first one in FAT32 format and second one in ext3 format).
I understand that not everyone is techsavy, but I really don't think how gunjahman's guide could be any simpler. I can try - according to my knowledge - help you, but please, read two threads I've mentioned above, try to follow them and ask questions, when you have more detailed problems.
No no, that's been really helpful, thanks. I now understand the SD partitioning, which is one of the things I was really struggling with.
One of the things I don't get after reading those tutorials (which I didn't find on my first search, thankyou for those) is what radio I need to flash? I can't find a mention of it in Rafpigna's thread and I'm not sure what to do in regards to that.
Same goes with kernel. I can't figure out at what stage or how I'm supposed to apply to kernel whilst installing the ROM.
Thanks for your reply though, muchos gracias
@ Radio - In first thread:
"B: Install Custom Radio ROM
Prerequisites
* HSPL3 ~ SPL-2.08.HSPL
In order to flash custom radio ROM, you need to have HSPL3 installed on your HTC HD2. Follow this guide ~ How to Install HSPL3 on HTC HD2? (Video) to install. By the way, I used Radio Leo 2.15.50.14 on my guide. You can use it or any other HTC HD2 Radio ROM version."
As to the kernel, then I do not think, that you should change the one provided with ROM - at least, if there's no specific need for it. Just flash the ROM - http://hotfile.com/dl/109228969/a4b154a/full_rafdroid_hd_ext_4r0f1.zip.html
I admit that you CAN apply another kernel, but you DO NOT HAVE TO do it in order to have fully functional Android on your HD2
Thanks mate, that's all I needed to know. Appreciate your help, sorry for being a simpleton. Cheers!
Glad, I could help
I'm glad you did without saying "you're an idiot, google is your friend"
