[APP][22/09/2008] Diamond SnowStorm

Here is a "Snow Dome" type of application. Completely useless, but it was fun for programming. Try using it 2 days in a row
Watch this space for enhancements over time.

This has been a complete rewrite of the SnowStorm application and it was a good learning school !
Despite the complexity of the algorithm, I think the response times are very acceptable. If you like to count the number of snowflakes: there are 200 of them and each of them is updated every 40 ms !
I am really impressed with the 3D capabilities of the Diamond !
Using the OpenGLES SDK to create a "pseudo" 3D layout.
- Snowflakes will be larger in the front then in the back.
- If the PDA is laying horizontal, snowflakes will "disappear" to the back-end or stay on the front after a while
- Pseudo horizon, fixed at about 50% of the screen.
- Simple graphics, trees are placed randomly, snowman is fixed
- Simple turbulence (any pointers to good algorithms are appreciated)
- Snowflakes disappear behind trees/snowman, depending on their position in space. They will travel through them however
- Simple collision detection, only sides of the "frustum" are checked, as well as the artificial floor.
Click on the top part to be asked to quit the program. Click on the lower (25%) of the screen to restart it.
Expect some other enhancements over time too.
Needs CF 3.5 !

Nice, but way too slow. The flakes should also move faster when the movement is more violent.

Currently there is no way to change the images, I just display one each day
So to answer your question: wait for a day
BTW, working on a new openGL based version that might react faster and more realistic
- Also thinking about user selected pictures, so you can insert anything you like.
- Anybody thinks that having sound is a good idea ?

This could be big... Xperia X1's Fish tank big..., maybe we could use this as a screensaver or as an unlock screen of some kind....
Maybe we should be able to change not only the picture on the background but the color and size on the snowflakes as well, so it won't be just a christmas thing...
Also, maybe you should also put some interactive water in the ball... as for sound? It's not really necessary i think...

I use .NET CF 3.5 for most of my applications. It comes with the ROM image I installed, but it is also downloadable for free from Microsoft. Have a look in this forum, there are several pointers to it. (Sorry, that I can not be more helpful)

I know the speed doesnt need to be turbo cuz the snowflkes are in the fluid (water, etc..) but having this in mind, the movement is still toooooo slow.. Same with the beer application.. Can it be more faster? Take a look here: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=CEBtJG3pFhI

i do have a suggestion though
i would assume that the large amount of snowflakes caused the slow down..i think you should have about 50 snowflakes at most (maybe slightly bigger if necessary)..200 makes it a bit too clustered

i really enjoy using my diamond with lots of tweaks and so on but there´s one thing left ( maybe the most important !!! ) :
I need to see all upcoming events ( next 2-3 days ? ) at the home screen, there are two at maximum and thats really annoying...
Is there any developer who knows a soloution ?

Hi,
I have the problem that sometimes no appointment is shown on the home tab although there are appointment for this day in calender .
Sometimes the home-tab shows appointment from past (the day before) .
If I edit an appointment in the calender, the appointment on the home tab refresh and everything is correct .
Im using original HTC-Rom 1.93 GER with some own graphics-manila-files created with Manila editor.
Any idea?

It is a great today plugin which shows appointments, tasks - Very customizeable and I have mine showing appointments up to a week in advance. It work's very well on my HTC Touch Elf WM 6.0. I added the RL Calendar to the same page so that I have a calender above it and appointments showing beneath. All as one page in ultimateLaunch.

I see a lot of smarties here trying to be all ^%$%.
What he is asking for, as well as I need, is to be able to see more upcoming appointments while the TF3D is ON .... got it. Please read before you guys get all smart.
The apps you suggested do not work work, well they do, but do not show up with TF3D ON.
Perhaps there is some registry tweak that can allow to see like today+next 7 days appointments.

Hey buddy. There is no need to get rude. Everyone here is just trying to be helpful, geez. What is your problem.
By the way, the original question was not asking specifically for something that would work while TF3D is on specifically and since I do not have a Diamond, I would have no way of knowing what would work for you or not. I was only pointing to a possible sollution as I am sure everyone else was. Notice in my post I actually metioned working on HTC TOUCH ELF WM 6.0.
Anyway, Good Luck finding what you need.

Anybody knows the answer? Maybe only HTC staff knows. Second Today works but it is just a workaround by adding a today screen so as to avoid the TF3D screen. Like the 2USU thing (a workaround for locking the screen with incoming calls), it's not a clean solution. I don't know what other fellow diamondiers feel, but I want a clear cut solution direct from TF3D, not to switch to another screen/program/interface to get around (and I want to see everything from the TF3D screen even when it's locked and backlight is off and I don't need to unlock the screen and then press another button to see it). But yes, this has been a F-Q but still no A (as in FAQ) yet. It seems to be a real simple issue that most of us will come across and intuitively think it's easy to solve (by a registry tweak or so) but yet no solution comes up yet. It's a bit frustrating....

You seen the movie Tropic Thunder? You know Tom Cruises' part in that, when he talks to the Flaming Dragon guys for the first time through the phone? Well, that's what I'd love to do to you now.
Yes, maybe there is a tweek (sic) that can do that with "TF3D ON" (did you know that the word 'on' is officially written uncapitalised?), and yes, Second Today is a workaround (which by the way, works with TF3D "ON"); however, since topics requesting this functionality for TF3D started back in 1931 you would think that if such a tweek (sic) existed, somebody smarter than you would've found it by now. And seeing this forum now has 869015 members, that makes 869014 members smarter than you - and none of them has ever found this elusive 'tweek' since 1931.
So, yeah, maybe there is. Go find it!

thx sushilange, but i´ve already searched all threads ! i haven´t found a possibility to integrate a calendar with the touchflo3d home screen...
By the way, it would be nice to submit a link instead of beefing...

I would also like to know if theres a way to see at least 3-4 upcomming events in my calnder in the TF3D home screen. Would be super!

It seems to be spanish and the idea is to use SecondToday from http://www.chi-tai.info/cs_wm_tools_im_cs.htm.

How about making an app that changes the today screen when you rotate the device?
So when it's in portrait you have TF3d and when it's in landscape you can have Calendar+ or whatever other plugins you want?

[REQ] S2U2 Light version

Hi all,
sorry for opening a new thread, probably this question would be in S2U2 thread, but also I think that post in a thread with 3423 posts would mean to waste it.
I would like to have a light S2U2 version with only the slide to answer function and full screen caller ID.
Currently I'm using S2U2 1.35 but I think it's too heavy, often I can't hear my phone ringing before 4 rings, so I miss a lot of calls.

Well, for one, you are right about a couple of things: A) That thread is huge and maybe a post in there will be buried under a pile of other posts; B) Yes, you shouldn't have opened a new thread for this...
Anyway, the couple of suggestions that I have for you are:
ThrottleLock: Still pretty early, but APLibo has made some improvements in 0.4 (his latest release)
Mini S2U: Very small footprint and definitely not as pretty as S2U2, but it does what it is supposed to.
I hope this helps some...

Many thanks for your reply, I'm using (in alternative) answerkey disabler, and works fine, but I like the full screen caller ID by S2U2
About Mini S2U, I took a look, but it seems that it does exactly what I don't need... It only locks the screen and has the ability to slide to unlok, but I only need the Slide to Answer feature.

Exactly, I own a Diamond and I set it to lock the screen after 30 sec., then I have to unlock using the power button, so I don't need the Slide to Unlock function.

I don't know if this works on Diamond, but I simply installed Phonecanvas!
And somewhere on freewareppc.com I found a tool only adding a fullscreen callerID... but I don't think this worked with a slider...

I agree...I think HTC Phone Canvas is gonna be your best bet if you don't want anything else. It's not completely full screen caller ID but it's close (takes up the full screen but the contact pic is slightly smaller and centered). Has the slide to answer and ignore as well.
Search for Phone Canvas or Opal Dialer.

Thank you, I downloaded Opal Phone Canvas, but analizing it I noticed that it changes 263 files under windows directory, so I'm a bit worried about install it. Also I noticed that it's probably in Englis and I'm using an Italian ROM.
I think that probably I will post under the right thread hoping in an A_C reply

i downloaded Phone canvas but received an "installation was unsuccessfull" message. I'm using 6.1 and an i760

the phonecanvas is probably only for htc devices. i cant install it on my ks20 too. hope they can port it to all wm phones someday like what they did with m2d.

anyone know what the omnia uses as a call answerer/dialer? i figure since it's samsung it might work for me... /not holding breath...

the screen alignment is done automaticaly by this app... so you dont have to do it manualy

I checked the registry to compare the defaults in the CAB with what I already had.
The CAB had
485,500 785,175 785,825 185,820 188,175
my TP has
485,514 785,835 785,200 193,200 193,835
Now how perfect mine are, I don't know, but I tried to be as perfect as possible. Even tried multiple times until I was happy I hit the center of the cross 5 times in a row.

I installed the .CAB on my Diamond and it inverted the screen taps; everything on the screen appears fine but the tap responses were inverted, I think its a glitch...Just reporting, hope it gets fixed.

I'm not getting how this works... I mean, copied on my Diamond, installed (tried both in Internal Storage and Phone Memory), I get a setup icon in the program menu which, tapped, leads me to another autoalign installation, and so on. Cycle.
What am I missing? Any help? Would really like to try this software and see if it improves my touch experience (not a reference to some mythical UI for WM... ).

Try aligning your screen by hand and mess it up on purpose. Then try it with autoalign and see the difference.
P.S TouchXperience IS NOT some mythical UI! Just watch. It'll be released on Feb 1st.

the file in the program is the real deal.... when u instal that cab, the one in your program menu, that aligns the screen !!!
this is jus my second cab and ill try to make an easier version soon!!

Didn't really mean to upset anyone! It's just that I'm reading about its features since the beginning of my WM life (Sept. 08) and I'm trying it as soon as it is released to the public. Looks very promising and interesting!

What's wrong with the built in screen alignment? Seems to work okay, what makes this different??

Help me test this tweak for the touchscreen. (updated - 2)

Has many of you noticed, the touchscreen is way too sensitive and while typing / using the device, the touchscreen does not react correctly / works alone.
I think i found a way to at least make it a little better.
Install the cab and reboot.
Please tell me what you think.

Edit 2 - It seams that some ppl ( http://pocketnow.com/tweaks-hacks/hd2-capacitive-screen-too-sensitive ) like to judge without knowing what the problem is all about, so, two videos are really better than my english..
The problem in not about the display being to sensitive, is about it being precise or not and about ghost key-press ..

I am trying it now. The screen has been making me nuts. I have had mine for four days now. I read books using mobipocket and it will start changing pages by itself. It will also register random screen presses when using core player. And don't get me started on typing.....Hope this helps.

I do notice an immediate improvement. I will keep you posted, but the initial couple of tests feel way better. THANK YOU.

I should have thought of this before installing the cab, but do you have a backup of the registry key that it alters? (Just in case I want to back-out)

It changes some values in: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\Setting\TouchPanel

Ive been suffering nothing but grief from my touch screen, alot of phantom presses, if I just rest the phone in my palm and keep the screen untouched it goes crazy.
Just installed this a few hours ago, fantastic! Its probably too early to call it yet but this seems to have made a really big difference.

Another thumbs up here, seems much better. It's hard to know for sure if it's placebo/just getting better or not, but it's certainly no worse. It's also hard to describe what the change actually is, but the end result is that I get things right more consistently now.

Works fine here also, don't notice a difference in touch sensitiveness, but it seems more accurate, can't say how you did it, but I like it.
Could be a placebo effect ofcourse, then again, I still like it

I've tried it as well but i didn't notice any difference but i wasn't that unhappy with the screen sensitivity as well.

You could try a hard reset to see if it fixes your issue.

Amazing!!
Was just saying to a colleague if this was on an iPhone, its tough luck!!
However this has been fixed with a simple cab file installation. Dont miss my iPhone 3GS one little bit!!
