My emails are disapearing before I can read them. - G1 General

This is what happens..
1. I send an email to my G1 (not Gmail... just ordinary pop3 email)
2. I get the notification OK.
3. The email applications says "RedMist________________(1)"
4. So I click on RedMist, and then Inbox
5. It shows the email subject and then, within 1 or 2 seconds, the email disappears. without me clicking to view the email.
6. No matter what i do i cannot view this email again.
Any idea whats wrong?

its because you must have outlook running on your pc at home or office, and its doing a send and receive at the same time and deleting the message of the server after the g1 has been notified.. and once u go into ur inbox on ur g1 when it does another refresh the message disapears..
same thing i had happen, and figured it out

Email dissapear after resync?

i've setup my gmail account on the Wizard, i can send and recieve fine, but if i download emails, and i resync then the mail box empties the previous emails i had.
any know how to fix this...
Yes I've had this too after upgrading to iMate2.16 firmware.
Then I disabled my E-mail syncronization (it's useless for me anyway).
So how come my Hotmail emails dont dissapear when i connect to gprs? all emails i've read stay in the inbox, but not on my gmail account.
empty inbox
Similar problem here. gmail and my work e-mail (read) disappear from inbox after sync. Any solutions?
I had a similar problem where less and less messages were being downlaoded when I did a send and receive over wifi. However if I did a send and receive over gprs I would get the remaining messages.
I have now got to the point where no GMail messgaes are being downloaded.
Any ideas?
Just go to the setup of the account on the wizwerd and then Options then next u will find ( only display messeages from the last ( ) Days just increase the number of dayes to eg. 365 dayes ( a year ) this will keep all the messeages in your wizwerd inbox from the last year...u will find the default is 3 dayes by the mean this will show only the messages from last 3 days.....
i had the same problem, but i have foudn a very good solution.
I created an free exchange server account on http://live.mail2web.com/ and pushed my mails from gmail to this email adress. Now i sync my Wizard over WLAN directly with the exchange account! (i have no partnership with my PC)
The second pro is, that you have a full backup of your mails and contacts, so make a hard reset on your device and sync all data back
if you leave the mails in gmail's incoming, you can download the mails to your pc too.
Good explanation but the solution is no good...
Here is a good explanation of why the emails are disappearing...
http://www.palm.com/us/support/treo/treo700wverizon/faqs.html
However, the problem is that after you download the headers, you have to download the messages (2 send/receives for message? stupid). Then afterwards you still have the same issue in that after you download the full message, the servers treat it as the same as before and make them disappear.
Weak!
email dissapearing
Get another email client like : webIS mail / flexmail2006 and all messages will stay.
Changing the number of days to display messages form seemed to do the trick. I didn't have that box ticked so I assumed that it wouldn't affect it.
It's working now though, that's the main thing!
when u setup the email account u will find that box ....the defult of the box is 3 days this means emails from 3 days will only appears in the inbox ....if u increase this number of days for example 365 this means emails from the last 365 will be shown in the inbox.....this is the only soulution....it is only the setup of email account
Another thing u will notice that emails downloaded are only the headers...if u wnat the body of the email ( not the attachments ) you have to increase the kilobites downloaded from the email ( also at the setup prosses ) from 2 kilobite to for example 20 kilobite...NOW you will have the body of the email also with the header....if u want to download the attachments just clik the last line in the email to download the attachments of the email next time u syns.....that is it SO SIMPLE
Hi,
I used to have this same error when i first configured GMAIL. I'm not sure what options i selected at that time. But i did two things not sure which one fixed it but now its fixed and i have all the emails stay in my inbox until i delete them myself. here are the settings
1. On you phone open GMAIL inbox, select Menu/Tools/Options and Edit GMAIL account, on the 4th screen click options, on the 2nd screen uncheck "Only display messages from the last..." on the 3rd screen select "Get message headers only" and check "Include" and type in whatever KB you like (i have it as 512) click finish.
2. Go to your GMAIL account, select Settings/Forwarding and POP and in POP download select "Enable POP for all mail (even mail that's already been downloaded)" and click save changes.
Well this should do the trick.
Thanks,
Khawar

need a better email app

the gmail works fine for the main email
but when connecting to secondary accounts the default app sucks WM was much better!!
Try K9...
K9 is a better POP3/IMAP client now available from the marketplace.
still can't select multiple emails to delete, or simply empty the trashcan.
2 absolutely essentials that are pissing me off.
I just want to know if anyone has successfully gotten their Hotmail to work with the email client and how. This is really getting on my nerves.

Unless you have Hotmail Plus it won't work.
Yes, I too would like to get hotmail working. Does anyone know of any new advances with getting it to work on the G1? I have hotmail plus and it still doesn't work. It always has a connection error and or it downloads about 15 of my oldest messages and then has a connection error?
maybe someone can hack the gmail push email program and create a universal push email program
let me continue...
message saved as drafts remain in the drafts folder even after send the email out. connection errors galore. i've had messages will sit in the outbox for over 30 mins even though i have a connection and i can download new messages. can you even create folders for pop3? it is just crap, crap and more crap. google should be embarrassed.

I think both of you have issues not related to the G1. They sound like it is a user issue. I get notifications, I had to check them on, It autoupdates (I choose 1 hour) The layout seems fine. I know what has been read and what has not. You really can't forward a message until you have read the entire message. That would be like me quoting your post before it posted to the forum. Gmail and Outlook both save my messages as drafts, if I go back to that message and send it, it is still saved in the draft folder. However Gmail takes it a step further and saves my messages as drafts every 5 minutes until I sent it or save it for good. Connection errors are because of the network, and Can also cause the messages staying in your outbox. In fact with POP3 messages can act weird even if it has nothing to do with the client. POP3 can't create folders it just downloads the actual message. You need IMAP which is a lot better and has a lot more options. I think that would help most your problems. And I would check to make sure that your servers are receiving the correct information along with checking your settings for the correct information also.
Please report bugs!
If you've found bugs in K-9, please report them to us at http://code.google.com/p/k9mail .
The code was originally based on the built-in android Mail application, but we're making pretty quick progress on bugs and features considering that we just stepped into this codebase.
i think you are basing your post on your gmail mail, i am refering to pop3 accounts in particular. i don't use gmail, but it seems that people are saying that it works for the most part.
i got notifications the first couple of days for my pop3 email, then it stopped working and unselecting and resetting the notification does not turn it back on. i believe this is a known issue.
in my desktop outlook, or pocket outlook and also thunderbird, when a message is in my drafts folder and i eventually send that message out, it is moved from my drafts to the sent folder. the message is sent, it is no longer a draft.
why wouldn't i be allowed to create folders for pop3 email? imap just auto creates the directory structure you have on your mail server.
yes, i do know that connection errors are due to connection errors, but when messages sit in my outbox, while i send test messages to myself and i can receive them, that is not due to my phone network errors.
i will go and log things i see...i hope to see an improvement.
thanks
I agree that the email client is the worst part of this phone
I use POP3 but I hear people complaining the same way about IMAP.
How about something simple e.g. number of bloody messages coming in.
"Load more messages"
What the hell does that mean ? When has there EVER been a load more messages prompt in an email program. I've been using email since back in the days of Pine and I always have a sense of how many messages are in my inbox. Apparently not for the G1.
No easy way to sort messages - and the connection errors just go without saying.
Nick
totally agree about the "load more messages".....why not give you an option to pick how many it loads by default.?..... senseless

This works because of the software gmail uses... not the software on your phone.
Push is a server side implication, while Pull is client side. So if you find a way to Pull email as well as gmail can push than you are on to something.
At least all of you are lucky enough to get your pop3 email setup. It won't even accecpt mine. I have Mediacom (mail.mchsi.com) and it won't even set my 2 mediacom email accounts up. Just says server connection error. My AT&T Tilt never had a problem setting these accounts up. Definately need something new for a pop3 email client. K-9 does the same thing as the default email client.

are you using the correct ports?
I got it to work. I never had to use SSL before. Not even in Outlook for this account or on my WM6.1. But setting the G1 to SSL mail sever did the trick. Now I'm just disgusted with how it handles mail, slow, does not display stuff, won't delete, incorrect un-read messages, read messages mark themselves unread everytime it checks the mail. I hope RC31 brings relief to these and other mail troubles (too many to remember).

It has been perfect for my mail, are you using pop3?
this has been my main complaint from day one.
Worst email app ever.

problem with imap

I set up my e-mail app with my imap mail account and it recieves and shows me new mails, BUT:
- mails older then 1 week ago are not shown, I only see the mails I got last wednesday and mails I got since then, although there are a lot of older mails in my inbox
- when I delete a message it isn't shown in the mail app anymore but when I connect to my imap account from my computer the mail is still in my inbox
those are the two problems that annoy me the most with the mail app. can anybody help me sort out the problems?

This is a setting in the IMAP account setup. Go to your inbox, then Menu:Tools:Options, select the account from the list, "Edit Account Setup" and then click next a few times till you get to the screen with the pulldown menu for "Download Messages" and set it to "All messages"

FWIW I also have an IMAP account and I'm not having this problem. You know that the phone doesn't automatically connect to your server when you delete an email?
As a test, try deleting and email on the phone and then manually doing a send/receive. THEN check your computer: the message should be gone. If it is, then all you're experiencing is normal behavior.
thanks I figured the first one out really soon after the post
to the second one, I'll have a try. the same issue is with marking mails as "read". when I connect from my computer they are still flaged as "new". will have a try your way. thanks!

Emails disappearing

I have searched for email problems but found none that describe my problem.
The problem is this.
1. Emails that have been read, but not deleted are removed from my HD2.
2. I get a notification that an email has been delivered. If i don't read that email, pick up my phone and so on. I can return to my phone knowing that i should have a message to read and find none.
I believe that what may be happening is that my emails are getting cleared down on every send/receive schedule.
Can anyone assist?
I am not saving messages to the SIM card currently.
I had that problem.
I guess that messages are deleted from hd2 when they are deleted from mail server
In other words, when you download them with computer for example, where you probably set it to: delete messages from server after they are downloaded, they are deleted from hd2 after next send,receive...
So I guess that these emails you would like to read them on your hd2 are deleted because in the mean time you or some software deleted them from email server
I find this happens if I empty the deleted items folder in Outlook on the Windows PC to which my HD2 is synched.
Disappearing email
On HTC Touch HD, when I wanted to save an email, I have deleted it. In that way it stayed preserved in the "deleted items" folder.
However, on HD2 email is disappearing from that folder also, after it has been deleted on the server.
Is there any way to save e-mails permanently on HD2? Except moving it to the "drafts" folder...

find the email options screen that lets you set the storage location, and on that page is the option to control when and how to empty the deleted items which by default is set to automatic on connect disconnect.

I have tried to find an email option screen that you are referring to, but I just don't see it anywhere.
Could you please guide me to it?

sure, from home screen go mail -inbox -menu -scroll down to tools -options switch to storage tab and there it is.
Oooops, I 've missed the scroll down part.

Ok, switched to "Manually".
What I do (just for testing purposes):
1- I'm at home and using Outlook 2003, so from one email account of mine I send a short email to THE email account which is also set up in my HD2.
2- Once I see the email has been delivered, I force my HD2 to refresh and I receive the email.
3- Now I refresh Send/Receive in my Outlook. Fine, I receive the message too.
4- Finally, I refresh again (Send/Receive) in my HD2...
5- The email I had on my HD2 screen, is gone. If I go to my InBox folder, there's nothing there.
What's wrong? Although I know the server deletes the messages, why can't my HD2 keep a message that had already been received?
Cheers,

thats because when you check the account from the mobile, it leaves a copy of the email on the server, and creates a copy in your phones inbox. When you check from Outlook on the pc, it physically downloads the email, thus removing it from the server, so when you check again from the phone, the inbox is empty.
You can alter outlook to not remove messages, but you end up with all your mail stored on your pop server, and the isp might not like it if it grows too large.

Hi there samsamuel. Thanks for your answer.
I understand this behaviour, but what I can't possibly understand is why the email is not kept in my HD2: I get the notification, I click to download it, hence, in that very moment a copy of the email is in my device. Then, why can't it be kept in my device if it was already there!?
It's fine if later on, it refreshes and it detects that there's no email in the server's inbox....but please, don't delete me the copy that I already had in my device! It has no sense!
Isn't there an option to keep these copies?
And yes, you're right, I don't want to alter my outlook, that would be a nightmare.
Cheers!
No choice for that?
Are you all happy with this email behaviour?
..I'm asking because there seems not to be a solution for this...
Up...
I'm having the same problem man... it's giving me the ****S. How do I put android on this PoS HD2?!
figured it out...
Open inbox > Menu (scroll down to tools) > Options > Click your email account > skip through all the bull**** until you get to the "Email Setup, automatic send / receive & dowload messages" drop down boxes screens, Hit "Advanced Settings", then change the 'When deleting messages:' from delete them off the server to keep them on the server.
Stupid WinMo.
Try an email account that supports IMAP. Some providers allow POP3 or IMAP so you might not have to change accounts.
I don't like the way IMAP looks in Outlook, but it works much better across several devices. I have two PCs and a couple of phones. No matter where I am, each device always reflects what is ACTUALLY in my email online. It took a little adjusting to, but I think it's much better. In Active Sync/Windows Mobile Devie Center, I no longer have Outlook set to synchronise with my device. Try signing up for a free Gmail account and try it on your phone and in Outlook on a PC and see what you think...
Somehow found what seems to be the problem...
inbox - tools - options - accounts tab - choose your account - edit account setup - click next until:
Automatic Send/Receive:
[Every 60 minutes]
Download messages:
[From past 3 days]
Change this from past 3 days to All messages and voila!
It's seems to save space by providing you only with latest e-mails. Make sure to do the Storage options mentioned earlier!

HD2US: It won't delete my emails?!

So I notice I have a new email notification, when I check my email in SenseUI, I hit:
Menu > Delete Message
but about 10 or 15mins later, ill get another email notification, it's the same email I just deleted (or so I thought). I've tried this repeatedly and it will still come back. Ill even click the 'Inbox' and see it's gone, only to find out, it came back. The only way it will delete is if I click 'Inbox' instead of 'Menu' and view my email through WinMo, than click the email and hit 'Menu' > 'Delete'.
This is gotta be a bug, how do I go about fixing this? It's really annoying -_-
"Delete" works for me for Exchange account, doesn't work for gmail.
I'm using Gmail, so make sense, but why on earth would it not work for Gmail? This is frustrating.
this just started to happen to me about an hour ago.
I looked through the settings to try to find the keep a copy on the server option but cannot find that for accounts outside of exchange (windows life / outlook) My yahoo and gmail accounts keep pushing emails.
I recreated both accounts and never saw the option to delete the message from the server as well. I have not had time to really look though.
Any update?
Dont use Menu>delete. Just use the soft leftkey DELETE and it wont come back.
have you tried
emails tab - inbox - menu - tools - options - tap the account you are interested in
click send/recieve schedule - bottom of screen click advanced settings and check teh dropdown 'when deleting messages' is set to delete them off the server.
I had this problem with AOL on my HD2 (shush, now. I like AOL mail, dammit!). I found that opening the mail and then deleting it from the menu got rid of the notification, but the mail, itself, would get pushed back every time I got new mail on the server (although without a notification of it being new). It would only truly be deleted when I did so from my PC. It's no biggie as it no longer tells me I have a new message when I don't, but I guess it could be bothersome for folks that get more e-mail than I do.
Note: I don't have this problem with G-mail at all.
