I upgraded from my beloved Wizard/MDA to the sexy Herald/Wing....my concerns:
- I got alot of cool registry hacks and what not from here for the Wizard. Do any of those work with WM6 or is it such a different OS?
- In general, are we looking at many programs for WM5 not working yet with WM6?
I've read conflicting info - does the Herald have A2DP or not? If not, does the .cab file that enabled it on my Wizard work with the Herald? (similar to my 1st concern, but more specific...lol)
In general - are those of you who upgraded from the Wizard happy with the changes? What do you miss from your Wizard that is not on the Herald?
Thanks!
*counting down the hours til my Wing's Thurs delivery*
it does have a2dp.
I upgraded from a Wizard, and i'm sooooo happy with my herald
I am not happy
Comparing Wing to Wizard:
Same processor
Same amount of memory
Same screen
5% heavier
10% less battery
NO IR!!!
Oh yeah, and T-Mobile really screwed up the memory:
The Page Pool is 3 times normal so it eats up a lot.
It runs a ton of T-Mobile specific crap so it eats up even more.
It then has memory leak problems so it has to be soft-reset daily to clean it up. (On one occasion, it said it had run out of memory and I had to kill an app. It listed the app I was running and 5 instances of "Phone")
The only plus in my book is that it is slightly smaller.
what you can do to kill the tmobile apps is to reset the Wing to initial factory settings then after you've done the screen calibration the customization msg will come up. at that very instant soft reset the WIng and no Tmobile crap will be installed.
New To The Herald
I just got my T-Mobile Wing today and its charging as we speak. I have been looking around in here for the unlock procedures and the custom cooked Roms that I have grown acoustomed to with my Wizard. I miss Faria! lol
Really though if someone can point out the correct thread to follow as I have read horror stories of bricked Heralds.
You just gotta check em all out lol. Theres been plenty of bricked devices, etc. but everyday we learn something new in the Herald forums. I paid to get my device CID Unlocked but its not necessary as the method of flashing is different then a modified RUU like the wizard used. Just when you get a custom rom downloaded, follow the instructions EXACTLY on what to do and you should have no problems. You should download the Tmobile RUU just incase of any problems though as I bricked my device once last week cause of simple error but the Tmobile RUU brought it back to life!
Thanks Blkout,I feel like a newbee again! lol Its like christmas all over
I hope to getting my device from a relative in US.
I am wondering how strict they are with waiting for 3 month to unlock the Wing. My relative is coming here like a week after getting the T-Mobile account. Any chance they will unlock it early?
The second question is will the Wing have any residue from T-Mobile after unlocking, anything annoying?
This is my first smartphone, so thanks for this great forum!
usually the unlock the phone within a week or so if you request them. i have got my phone unlocked in 15days. After unlock the phone will have the residue of the t-mobile softwares.
welcome to the forums.
to get the "residue" off, hard reset and soft reset before the "customizing starts"
however, memory will still be taken up by the cabs. also, it won't run as efficiently as possible.
To remedy this, it is recommended that you install a new rom. Read the tutorials.
I suggest the touch-it 2.0 or the 2.3 Beta for wings.
Thanks for the replies.
Things may change in a few weeks in relation to which rom to change to.
I hope there is a version that has bat stat and page whatever pp preset to optimal (6 mb, I guess).
Last PDA i had a was a clie around 3 years ago, so this will be very new for me.
I will check up again when it is in my hands on the latest optimal rom and installation...
Thanks for the info about early unlocking. Anything specific to make them do it early? Is it a simple procedure that will allow me to use the Wing in Europe with a SIM from Wind cell service?
Also, what is the best option for a 1-2 gig memory card. Most economical, best deal...
My laptop has an SD/SDIO/MMC card reader, so what is the best option for me?
Also another question, is there a case that protects the screen while allowing the use of the screen at the same time?
Thanks!!!
The Wing from T-Mobile USA came with a clear screen protector film, a leather case w/ belt clip, also I've seen people got clear plastic shell for the Wing from ebay.
The Wing takes MicroSD card so such a card and a full size SD card adapter (usually comes with the MicroSD card) are your best choice. A 2GB MicroSD card will be great for you if you can get it cheap.
Enjoy your Wing!
I am running WM6.11 - explode I think with the HTC extended rom apps. However I notice that under WM2003 there is a slider to change the allocation of RAM between storage and programs - I dont have this facility on my IIs and run out of storage RAM on the phone despite having plenty of free RAM for programs. It seems that even if I install the application on the card, RAM is still eaten up out of the phone storage - I guess thats the OS system.
However, If it can be done in 2003 then surely WM6.11 can do it - but I need help to re-allocate RAM between storage and programs.
Thanks
it is inpossible in WM5\6\6.1 your information is wrong
storage ram/program ram
I had the same problem, when I converged my EXTrom. I had 93mb in programs and only 64mb in storage. It takes much more storage than program ram, XPLODE, my question is was there a possibility that I/we could have changed this BEFORE we converged?
Also, I and a few others are having a problem with your 6.11 sound disappearing after "X" amount of uses with it (see some replies the past few days)
Don't get me wrong, YOUR 6.11 upgrade is FANTASTIC, I just lost sound and the capability to answer my phone as well as NO SOUND!

The same problem here!!
I was also wondering if there is any trick to increase the storage capacity from the programs RAM
FYI: In WM5/6 Storage and RAM have nothing common. Storage is a part of flash memory, that is not used for ROM, and RAM is fully used as normal, regular RAM. Thanks to this when you take the battery out, you never loose data and settings like in case of PPC2003 and older.
That's why there is no storage-RAM slider in WM5/6.
In case of BA, after switching to WM5/6 you have 128MB RAM and that's all. Cannot be less, cannot be more.
Talking about capacity - if you went through correct procedure, you should have repartioned flash memory giving back some space that was reserved for ExtendedROM. All the info you can find in the Wiki.
Thanks for the info - maybe I have not repartitioned my RAM then, I just put it in bootloader mode and flashed it!
I appreciate your impatience with people new to this and this is probably why many senior members just say 'its in the wiki' with the unspoken bit implying find it yourself. However the wiki is not an easy document to find what you want and I know I'm not alone there.
Still, I wil revisit the wiki and see if i can find info on this topic that I have previously missed. Thanks.
partioning the MEM
I followed the wiki to the letter, however, it did not say anything about giving back to the EXTrom. I just went by the procedure and I have 93 mg to storage and 64 to program. no Extrom, and flashed to xplode's 6.11 along with other programs. I do not have to worry with loosing my programs any longer however, the program space is what the problem is. there isn't enough room for most of what I like on my BA. LOTS of space in the Storage. One would think that it should have been one big storage space for both just like a regular PC.
I have had my BA for 2 years and never need to ask any questions I just followed the WIKI. Now I have these questions.
Now that I did load 6.11, now I have no sound after a few days of use. It just disappeared. I can't hear from it and no one can hear me. the phone will dial and it responds to calls but, no sound.
I Would appreciate it of the seniors would not make people like us FEEL stupid, when we ask a make sense question. I have searched the WIKI and through the forums and I get no answer thru these means , therefore, I must ask the question, when I feel it is necessary.
Thank you for your rationality.
gcopher
gcopher, have you ever try to hard reset your BA after that sound problem appeared?
Sound problem after 6.11
Yes I have, I am an A+ certified hardware and network geek and I know enough about programming to be dangerous, I have successfully used this site for the past 2 years up grading my BA with the latest, until now. I decided to upgrade to xplode 6.11, of which I thought wa excellent and still do, I used my BA for several days without a glitch (other than the blue tooth problem with the BA as I think everyone else does, that I have to wear in my shirt pocket when I am talking) The only thing I did was install 6.1 word and excel, when I reset (soft), then the problem occurred, since I have hard reset and even re-installed WM6 to try and shell it. No fix. I am looking in the forum archives for a sound fix, if any. Thank you for asking though.
Here this last few days is the first time I have actually posted something here in the forum, other than posting about having the same problem with the bluetooth problem everyone has, the BA has a VERY small chip for blue tooth. I have several (6) BA for spare parts. I have replaced 2 screens on my own, but I repair cell phones for a hobby. (mostly motorolas) I get the parts fairly cheap. I like to take junk or something that is broken and repair them, I get some self edification from that, kind of weird but I am a musician geek (bass player, and active with a band in the Tulsa, OK area)
Thank you for the suggestion though.
I hope you had a great 4th!
If sound issue doesn't go off after proper HR (the one with NO YES YES), all you can do is to go back to a tested ROM (even wm5) and check if sound will work again. If your RadioROM is up to date (1.13 or 1.15) it might be just coincidence with hardware failure - speaker/mic or just sth on the mainboard.
And about Wiki:
first step of the wizard after choosing upgrade to WM6 from 2003: Expanding the Storage memory
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blueangel_WM6_WizzardUpgrade1_WM2003SE0
Anyway, gcopher, your flash seems to be partitioned correctly.
This thread seems to have developed into two directions but thats OK I have something to say about both.
I have read the wiki - used the unhide, unlock and repartition programs successfuly. Then flashed 6.11 xplode successfully. I then go to the memory option in Settings->System and have EXACTLY the same problem as before - the ram is divided into storage and programs and there is no way that I can see to shift some program ram to the storage or vice versa. Perhaps most users dont run many programs on their BA's but I start running out of storage on the phone when there is still loads of program ram - the fact thet I also have a 4gig SD card doesnt help. I find that even when I install as many apps as I can on the SD card I still run out of storage on the phone.
As for the sound. I too lost my sound AND the camers when I upgraded initially - nothing seemed to work and I was convinced it was a hardware fault. I was so fed up I took the batery out and left it for a few days, long enough for the internal backup battery to also run down. Once powered up again it all worked perfectly and has worked ever since.
Frustrating as hell isnt it when you feel like your the only one with a problem and noone else has ever come across it - even more frustrating when your given simplistic advice in minimal detail
I will do a lil explaination, when you delete the partition for extromyou add this space to the phone storage, the only one known way for increasing storage in WM5/6/6.1 is with ramdisk, but it is not working well in WM6/6.1 it is inpossible to make it with slider and allocate memory to ram or storage as in WM2003
arcnet: and to finish storage/RAM problem: Like in the PC you cannot just like that exchange Hard Drive space with RAM, same way you cannot just like that exchange storage (that is something like Hard drive space) with RAM (that is like... RAM
And to explain it all: If you run out of disk space you usually don't try to use some of the RAM as the Hard Disk Space. You can just install another hard drive. In case of PDAs and your BA in specific: consider installing all the big applications on the SD card. This should solve your problem completely.
Tanks Coach!
This is what I am working on now, checking, and going back, being that I have quite a few other BA parts I can go back and replace, however, I will go back and even do the WM2003 if I have to, I have tried many times to hard reset, however, I think I may have caused a problem with that, (I can fix it) but my BA just restores itself. I have placed most of my regular programs on the storage card. It just comes right back up to my background and original settings. I will have to pull the card ans reset it. Either way, I will have to trouble shoot the problem, I have checked out the "soundfix" file no go. The uni-directional file already exists and will not re-install. I will re-install WM5 and see if it comes back on OR start replacing parts.
I had saved the EXTrom on my storage card, as the instructions said.
The program storage has all of the space, and the Storage file has very little, seems it should have been the other way around, this is what the other guy was talking about. If it was possible to go back and re-allocate the two, so storage could have more of the space.
Thank you for your kind response, this is what I love about this site. I feel good about have all of the knowledge and access to programs for this wonderful Device of mine.
Have a pleasant day!
Greg

Sorry Arcnet, I do not intent to take this thread both directions...... I should have taken the sound prob to a different thread,
I needed to voice that I wanted to understand your delima,as I had the same wonder. I used my storage card for all that I could and I still have used 92% of my program ram space and still have more than 60% of my storage, as only using 2% of my card. I moved all I could to the card and reclaimed about 10%, however, If I wanted to place more on it, it would still take up more as there is only 64 mg available in Programs and most of the allocation in Storage.
What xplode is trying to say is, the BA comes with 64 mg of ram built in, this is all you can use for programs.
The slider was for EXTrom and storage, that is more like a hard drive on the device. This is separate from the RAM for programs. What we merged was the storage, and got rid of the volatile mem (EXTrom) and gave it ALL to storage. it was never available to programs.
Be sure that every time you install a program...choose your card, if at all possible, the program will tell you (my experience) if it will not run from storage (your card).....................G
Adding to this,I have successfully reloaded the xplode 6.11 with success with restoring the sound. I will let you k now IF it goes out again, in about a week.

Another problem that I noticed (with my BA anyway) is that even if I choose to install applications in the SD card, the storage space reduces as well
I don't know if this related to the BA or the ROM (which is sundream's rom) but this is what's happening with my BA. As a result, I run out of storage space very rapidly..
Any clues??
Just because you select to install to storage card does not mean that all files are copied there. Some files HAVE to be installed in the windows directory. Try installing memaid or tweak2k net and transfer dlls to the storage card, that will free up some memory , depending on what you have installed
Thanks for your answer scousemartin
I have another question though: how much memory can we get if we aplly the resize stuff with 2003??? What I mean is: is it worth the hastle??
If you did not repartition flash to get rid of ExtROM you loose 12 (or 16, I can never remember) MB. It's always worth to have more storage memory, that is otherwise totally lost.
If you have a "sound disappearing" problem, try NOT TO CLOSE (by X button, add to ignored) any players when they are playing. Especially Windows Media Player. That solved the problem for me.
Hello,
I just got a Mogul, and I am pretty new. I hope you guys help me out a bit.
After upgrading the ROM to WM6.1, I did a hard reset and during the "3 second customization" message, I did the soft reset.
So, after the dust settled, I took a look at the programs installed, and it seems that most of the junk is gone except Sprint Music.
(I did another set of hard reset+soft reset just to make sure that I am not messing things up)
I took a look at the Extended_Rom using the Total Commander...it seems to have some cabs, but I am a bit wary to delete any of them.
I saw some guides online (including the one in this forum), but I have no idea why Sprint Music is still installed.
Also, this new reset does not help me with the RAM... still around 51+% on boot up.
Any ideas?
If you don't like the Sprint stuff load up a custom ROM like DCD or another. Look around on here with a search or on PPCGeeks for alternatives.
You should know now that your ram will never be that great on the mogul, that is unless no2chems release will be awesome and stable on release with the 30 megs of ram =D. DCD's rom will leave you with 25 on boot, which is still pretty lack luster. I feel i should have bought the palm treo 800w when i had the choice for the extra ram, or the HTC touch, OR wait on the HTC diamond.
Hi there, I have joined this Forum as I have spent the last week reading through heaps of threads, and while I have learnt a bit, I am at a point where I need some help.
I got a HTC T-Mobile HD2 for less than half price with the intention of running Android OS. I got it for this price as it has the freezing issues. I don't think it is in warranty and the box and CD didn't come with it.
I think it must be a US T-Mobile, as it has the Coming Together screen when it is turned on. Most of the time, that is all it gets to. It has a green talk button and red off button. The resets do nothing.
I have read that these phones are often returned to HTC as they are defective, they get hot and don't work. The one I got doesn't get hot. When it does boot up, it has Transformers and Transformers2 loaded into the memory. It will play but after a short time it goes black and resets.
Does this phone seem repairable? If so, please tell me where to start as I have been totally confused here.
Here is some of the details I got off it when it was booted up.

98% of the time it's the software. Flash a new STOCK rom and see if the problem persists.
98% hardware problem, not software.
Okay will flash a new stock ram, as I have nothing to lose here. Back to searching on how to achieve this!

That's quite helpful, isn't it?
My expieriences vary from StarScreamX's ones. Indeed it might be a good idea to flash the stock rom which was made for your HD2. Back in the days of WM 6.5 it solved some weird problems permanently. You might even reflash your original HSPL, only to flash the fitting version again. I repeated those steps several times, just to wipe out eventually made errors.
The other point is, that some errors occur because of certain hardware-combinations, not because of the components themselves. It might be the SD-Card or even the way you formatted it. Best expieriences I've made with using Fat32 64kb cluster size. Seemed to speed up the whole OS.
My last suggestion is to try several builds. Android can be far different from Android. For examle Sense, ADW, MIUI are all pretty good, but have their own advantages. While I first refused MIUI for its similiarities to iOS, I stuck with it before I switched to WP7 some Weeks ago.
Try the builds and take your time, there certainly is one, that runs great on YOUR hardware.
Anyway, Good Luck!

I think it might be a hardware issue my Hd2 has the same issues & I jst finished restorting it back to stock so i cld snd for repair. Once its stock SPL, original ROM try running it with out an SD card, try running w/out SIM card & if you still have issued most likely ur stuck w a bad HD2
After heaps of searching and learning, interesting and rewarding when you put some effort into it, I loaded a stock ROM, removed the SD card, hard reset, it made no difference to the freezing and booting up issues.
If left for about 10 minutes the Stick Together screen got these numbers at the bottom, then it would boot up...sometimes but it always reset itself after looking intothe menu and then it would not reboot.
So I did more reading, and with my confidence up after achieving my first stock ROM flash, I thought I would try ANDROID.
I used the TUT Flashing your first ROM on Leo 1024 thread. Installed the HPSL 1.11, successfully.
Then I installed the MAGLDR program.
Then I installed the ROM - [TMOUS][LEO1024][DFT/CWM]CMYLXGO's Stock Desire HD(2)[KERNEL:MDJ 10.4OC] which seems to be the most 1024 friendly and least taxing ROM on the CPU.
It worked so far. I did the Root task as explained, although I dunno if I was needed to. But at least the phone boots up for more than 3 minutes. I give it a Hard Reset and it is now on charge.
It will not boot up if it crashes, have to wait. Maybe this will settle down after a while.
Anyhow, I love this ROM, it has made the phone SO FAST it is incredible. That is until it crashes. I LOVE the HTC HD2 phone, it is just awesome.
i dunno what to do, stick with this perhaps suspect dodgey phone, that could let me down at the most inconvienent time. What I will do is give it a chance today, after charging. It is a really hot day here, over 120F so if handles that it will handle anything. If it fails, I notice that Ebay have free insetion fees this Weekend, and I may get rid of it and let someone else have a turn at it, and just get one that is not a bad one.
Anyhow sorry for boring all the experts with my phone problems, I did try my hardest to search and learn it myself, and this is a great forum, and I am gonna keep at this with this phone now or my next one. These Custom ROM's are just awesome.
I'm glad you're finally enjoying it.
Just remember, the way you use/abuse your phone could have an adverse effect on its condition. If it gets too hot:
--try to see if you have programs running in the background.
--don't use a case if you're watching a 2hr movie through SD card (really, how's that heat going to escape?)
--watch wifi usage
--leave the phone in a well-ventilated space
...things of that nature, etc.
I'm not saying there's no such thing as hardware issue, but symptoms like those are a lot more clear-cut than a phone overheating and restarting.
In my case I'm confident its hardware related. I had mine and my wife's phones loaded with the same ROM. My phone continues to die in my hands while hers hums along with no problems at all.
