tmail.exe crash on mms - XPERIA X1 General

Strange one this just tried to open an mms and tmail.exe crashed, softreset later it worked again, but when i tried to open it again tmail.exe crashed again it turns out i have to open another message close that message reopen the mms and it works every time. STRANGE.

Used to happen to me when I was still running the old R1A ROM, but since updating to the latest R2A UK generic ROM (1.03.931.10) and Radio 1.11.25.76, I've had no issues with crashing, plus my signal has improved greatly

MMS Composer/Client bug? Need help please

After a while, don’t know how long, the Magician stopped receiving MMS messages. At first I didn’t understand why this was happening.
Today, after some testing I’ve found out that the only way to be able to recieve a MMS was if the Messaging client was left open (resident in memory) and if by any chance, the referred program is closed, all MMS sent to the device are lost, as it doesn’t even start the connection. The only noticeable fact is that the device powers up and that’s all. It really seems like a bug.
Is there by any chance someone that can help me with this problem? Or had similar issues?
The version of the Arcsoft MMS Composer = 2.0.0.22
Thank you

After doing extensive searches on the net, i wasn't able to discover anything taht could be of help to this particular problem.
So, i went to a workaround solution that solves the problem, creating a shortcut on the startup folder that starts the messaging pack in background, thus forcing the mail/mms program to get loaded each time the device is restarted.
The sortcut -> "19# "\windows\tmail.exe" -RunInBKG"
Maybe this can be of help to someone else.
Thanks! This shortcut is resolving the same problem for me, but it seems once i closed the Messaging application with SPB Plus' 2.5 close task feature, it does not work anymore...
So in addition, you need to edit the settings for the close button and define an exception for "tmail.exe"

Yes that's right esackbauer. I forgot to mention that once you enter the messaging app you must keep it running...
Bye

messaging application keeps popping up

I use oldest Imate ROM for some months. I don't have an mms application installed (didnt work) and this morning someone sent me an MMS. The whole device crashed (screen kept blinking).
Now after several soft resets the messaging application keps popping up. very annoying - cant do anything for more then 3 secs! Does anyone have a clue how to solve this without hard reset? is it due to lack of mms app?
fixed. It was indeed MMS coming in without an MMS inbox installed. Finally managed to get the MMS inbox, MMS arrived and all is fine again.
How did you get mms mailbox installed? I'm having this problem as well...

Messaging won't start

Sigh... Having some issues.
Before I start, here's the specs:
Cingular 8125
CID/SIM Unlocked
Service: Cingular
ROM: Molski's 2.26.10.2 AKU2.3
Radio: 02.47.11
Protocol 4.1.13.24
IPL/SPL: 2.26
The problem: At random, messaging just quit working all together. I havent installed anything new. I was able to send a text message this morning at 10AM and I tried opening up messaging today around 5:00pm and nothing happens. Messaging via Softkey, today screen, start menu, you name it... It doesn't work.
I've searched for about an hour both on this forum and google and I can't find any real solutions to this problem. I hope there is a fix out there and I just haven't found it.
I tried viewing processes in taskmanager while pressing the messaging softkey, and tmail.exe will appear in the processes list for about half a second then disappear. I viewed Windows\Messaging\ and there are a bunch of 0kb files there. The sms backup program included with Molski's rom won't work. It gives me the following error: "GetFolder: 0 error."
I'm guessing that some database went corrupt? Anyone have any feedback on this? Any fixes short of doing a hard reset? I'd like to avoid a hard reset because it's a major PITA to restore everything. How common is it to have to do hard resets if everything has been functioning properly with no tinkering? This 8125 is becoming a major headache for me. =\
Alright, I've found this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=269644&highlight=messaging+button+does
Apparently closing out tmail.exe will cause issues. I'm guessing this is related to using the "Close All" button that was included in Molski's rom. I'm not sure if the close all feature is available via pocketplus... If it is, I'd add tmail.exe to the exceptions list, but I have no clue where to find the settings for the "Close All" button.
Anyone have any idea?
I just had this happen to me today, is there a way to fix it?
Any fixes for this? I have read some people doing a hard restart, but I would rather not have to do that. Thanks.
For what it's worth, I had the same thing this week. Couldn't find anything simple anywhere. So..., I removed my 1G ram card. Messaging worked! I found that I had hundreds of texts in the various messaging folders and I deleted everything. So far, so good.
I noted that "running programs" shows only which folder is active in messenger, eg "text", "pop3", "sbc" or whatever you've named your services.
Oh, I'm using the WM5 messenging program that came standard. tmail? Hope this helps some other lost soul!

try format the device to refrish it
Hi,
I've been having the same problem with my Trinity, running the last Ax3l WM6 ROM (although I don't believe the ROM is at fault).
The messaging application simply stopped launching, be it from the menu shortcuts or the executable itself.
I've tried the SIM in another phone, which sends and recieves SMS OK.
After finding this post and reading suggestion the above, I tried removing the MMC and it started working again, and all my old messages were still there also. With the card back in, the problem returned.
I wasn't sure where (or why) the phone is storing SMS/messaging related stuff on my MMC card. The only thing i could find was an empty folder (no hidden or system files either):
\storage card\Inbox.mst.23423(random nos...)
tried renaming to OLD first, and all was fine again, so deleted it. weird.
Anyway, thought I'd add that in the hope it might help someone with the same issues
I had the same problem and followed these steps, it worked, Thanks for the advice.

@boma23
THANK YOU!!! Deleted the file soft reset and it's working again.
I think the file is created if you go into the messaging options and check the box that says "When available, use this storage card to store attachments"
I was about 5 seconds away from doing a hard reset when I stumbled upon this thread.
THANK YOU
I found this thread and tried it...It saved my day. I was about to have a fit!
Thanks again

Exec Keeps crashing and deleting txts

Hi, i have this problem with my xda exec, every so often it will crash so i have to sort reset it and when it reboots most of my recent txt messages will be deleted. This problem is extremly annoying and if it continues i fear for the safety of my phone as i will throw it accross the room!
Any help appreciated
Thanks
Possible reason can be some malacious software. Can you enlist them?
Also, what ROM are you using?
This happened to me too, but only on certain WM6 ROMs. It tended to be unread texts. Unfortunately, I can't remember which ROM was doing it, but I think it was DarkForce and one or two of the PDAVIET ones. However, I tend to fiddle with my phone so much, it would be difficult to say whether it was the ROM or something I'd done.
Are you using WM6?
If so, which one?
If not, what apps are you using, and also, have you tweaked any of the settings using MemMaid or something like that?
it happens to me too, and i'm still using jwrights most recent rom.
maybe you could supply more details of what softwares you have installed? sometimes the rom is not the culprit but the softwares that interfere with the way mail is being handled.... for example.. this has been a known issue before for users of wisbar advance desktop...
text message on my phone are handled by the regular internla program. it's wm6, jwright, latest version. and it's my text messages. if i get new ones, and my phone crashes.. the new ones are gone once it restarts.
just to let you know, im on original o2 rom and i get this problem.
whenever i recieve an mms message my phone spazes out completely (cant access most menus and the inbox is rapidly flicking up and down) resulting in me having to soft reset (push stylus in hole)
whenever i do this it deletes/forgets any recieved sms since the last time i opened the txt msg client. only way to stop losing msgs is by manually closing the sms client settings>system>memory>running programs>Text Messages - Stop
unfortunately you cant access this while your phones spazing out so try to make a habit of closing txt messages often
as stated original roms wm5, no custom software
i got this problem too.
i think maybe it cause by the 3 party software.
now i flashed to wm6, and becareful while choosing those software install in it. now works fine... eventhough it got incoming sms, and the phone freeze, after soft reset the sms still there...

rom 1.66 - does it fix the SMS problem?

Hi there,
Does anyone know for sure if the 1.66 ROM upgrade fixes the SMS issue with them getting stuck in the outbox? I'm downloading it as we speak but I don't want to have to completely reset my device without needing to.
I have all the previous hotfixes released in EU/UK installed.
not sure... supposedly it does... im running it and havent had the problem.
i delete alot of my texts all the time though so im not sure if i just havent noticed it yet.
it should and it is (for me) fix both the stuck in the outbox & lag problem on the sms app.
Sounds like good feedback! Making an app and tweak list so I can get up and running again quickly now... I remember the fun I had doing this on my Diamond...surely this SMS issue could have been done as a hotfix
There is new SMS hotfix from January 24th, which says is for ROMs older then 1.66, so it is supposed to be the same version of SMS software as is on 1.66 ROM.
i had an issue with 1.66.. UK unbranded device - After using PIM and then MyPhone to restore messages and such, any SMS i tried to send went as an MMS?
I couldn't find anything else like this for anyone else, so I went back to 1.48 and I've got no problems with my SMS'... one of the contacts said 550 after the name on 1.66 so I'm guessing this was a count of how many messages were in that thread.
Haven't experienced any stuck sms on the latest 1.66 ROM, but I noticed that the ringing volume is much lower than it used to be. Not sure maybe because I had like 40% battery left?
1.66 ROM solves the SMS issue for me.
Also fixed for me as well as other things such as windows live messenger connection problems, receiving emails problem, weather not updating etc. Best rom to date
I had the stuck sms syndrome on 1.43 and 1.48............no such problem on 1.66
stable...
Id say its running stable for now. Only thing i noticed is the "limited to 10 recipients" on th recipient input field for SMS. SMS thread loads faster and there is no lag on replying to SMS thru sense ui. Like i am experimenting with a long thread of 119 SMS on one conversation.
Once clicked on the SMS, it it loads the SMS conversation, and i can start to write on the input box immediately. Loading all the older msgs takes a few second which is OK with me as i dont go on scrolling to see the older msgs just as i open them.
anyone else got the imitd to 10 recipients coming on ur recipient input fields???
