After a while, don’t know how long, the Magician stopped receiving MMS messages. At first I didn’t understand why this was happening.
Today, after some testing I’ve found out that the only way to be able to recieve a MMS was if the Messaging client was left open (resident in memory) and if by any chance, the referred program is closed, all MMS sent to the device are lost, as it doesn’t even start the connection. The only noticeable fact is that the device powers up and that’s all. It really seems like a bug.
Is there by any chance someone that can help me with this problem? Or had similar issues?
The version of the Arcsoft MMS Composer = 2.0.0.22
Thank you

After doing extensive searches on the net, i wasn't able to discover anything taht could be of help to this particular problem.
So, i went to a workaround solution that solves the problem, creating a shortcut on the startup folder that starts the messaging pack in background, thus forcing the mail/mms program to get loaded each time the device is restarted.
The sortcut -> "19# "\windows\tmail.exe" -RunInBKG"
Maybe this can be of help to someone else.
Thanks! This shortcut is resolving the same problem for me, but it seems once i closed the Messaging application with SPB Plus' 2.5 close task feature, it does not work anymore...
So in addition, you need to edit the settings for the close button and define an exception for "tmail.exe"

Yes that's right esackbauer. I forgot to mention that once you enter the messaging app you must keep it running...

Hi peeps.
After reading through various posts on this board, I thought I would hard resst my exec and install the cabs manually as suggested to get the features I want without the bloatware.
So far so good, installed everything I wanted and the connections only cab that is availble but, my MMS doesn't seem to work.
There is no MMS account in poutlook and there's noway that I can see of composing new MMS messages.
How does everyone else go on with this because when I've looked through some of the posts, everyone says thier SMS is working OK.
It's probably something stupid...
Cheers,
Smiff.
See? That's what happens when you don't proof-read your posts - there's loads of spelling mistooks and typos; and then no-one responds.
But seriously, someone else must have seen this as I'm not the only one to do a minimal install. Any ideas?
Cheers,
Smiff.
Answers in this thread for the cab file to install.

I've read that one multiple times but still have no working MMS in this situation...
I THINK
I beleive you have to create new account. It appears to be setting up email just continue through and at some point you can select type and set to mms. Then highlight account click on settings and put in your providers mms setting and bingo...
must say I havent had this problem on the exec but did on xdaiis and that solved it..
hope that helps
stay happy

Hi
Thanks for the tip but unfortunately, it didn't work that way
However, I have managed to get it working now - i did a hard reset again and a clean install and then installed 5 cabs - voicemail one, bt patch, both "shortcut" ones and the uaprof one.
The only thing I did differently this time from all the others is that I switched it off with the power button and on again before soft resetting it - i'm pretty sure that this did the trick
Cheers,
Smiff.
I 'upgraded' my firmware from the default Qtek 9100 firmware to the KJAM 1.1.9.3 firmware... I unlocked my extended rom and deleted all of the carrier presets as well as the skype and anti-virus. For some reason I don't see an MMS account in my Messaging app. I see the MMS Configuration menu (everything has been hand configured). I also see the "Send Via MMS" menu in File Explorer, but selecting leads to a short pause and then nothing.
I currently have the following installed from my extended ROM:
Autorun.exe
Default_cdl_wwe_version.cab
Default_ie_view.sa.cab
Default_Imate_PPC_SA_V5./.../.cab
Default_SmartDialing_en/.../.cab
Install_Tsk.exe
Setup.exe
(the names of some were too long to see, but they are all standard to the 1.1.9.3 WWE K-Jam ROM posted on our FTP server.)
Any thoughts on what I might have missed, or what I can do to get MMS working again?
Thanks,
Steve
I have the same problem, just hard-reset my vario after unlocking the extended rom and removing most of the T-Mobile stuff. I have MMS configurations but no MMS account, and when I try to add a new messaging account it wants to set up e-mail.
I installed the cab that is supposed to set up MMS: CAB-Customization-TMUK-Wizard-01-04-03Oct05.CAB, according to this:http://gathering.tweakers.net/forum/list_message/24674452#24674452
and performed a soft reset, but still no MMS account.
Any ideas?
Please use this file to recover it......!!!
CAB-Shortcut-MMS1-JAVA5XX-VOICE-O2-31Oct05
I gave that file a shot, unfortunately no change, either before or after a soft reset :-/
That cab seemed to just reconfigure the MMS settings for T-Mobile.
The MMS configuration menu was always visible though, and there was nothing wrong with the settings, problem was that there's no MMS account visible in the messaging program.
I asked a friend to send me an MMS, this made my text messages inbox come up, but not showing a message, and when I tried to close the window it would go back to the today screen momentarily and then bring the inbox back up again.
Can anyone help?
In a sick sad way, I'm glad that JPo has the same problem, at least I know I'm not the only one
I have exactly same problem on o2 xda exec after applying latest rom upgrade
no mms inbox/account.
mms is configurable under menu>mms configuration, but theres no inbox present.
i tried to send myself an mms message from another mobile phone, all that happens is text message inbox screen pops up, i close it, then a second later it pops back up again, this screnn cannot be closed anymore unless you soft reset
has anyone solved this?
why did the mms inbox dissapear?
fixed it
go to xda developers FTP
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/
then navigate to
/Universal/Extended ROMs/Vodafone_UK_new_ver/
download this file and run it on your device
"msd_cab-shortcut-voda-19aug05.cab"
Your MMS inbox is now Fixed!
but there are a few additions under start>programs
Namely: ClearVue PDF, MIDlet Manager & Voice Speed Dial. You can delete these with a 3rd party explorer like Resco Explorer.
If you want MMS settings for Vodaphone UK then download this one
"msd_cab-customization-vodaukcontract-universal-01-06-18oct05xml.cab"
Does anyone know how to setup connections for sending and receiving MMS? I just get notifications and warnings it cant send or receive, obviously my connection settings are not correct, can anyone share their Vodafone UK settings (Fool Proof Instructions Please)
Thanks a Million!!!

With your instructions I got my MMS folder for the first time since I have my 9100.
Thanks a lot!!!!!!!!!!!1

Do you have a taskmanager such as SPB Pocket Plus or Magic Button installed with the option to really close programs? If zo, add \windows\tmail.exe to the exeptionlist to prevent the sms program is really closes, this could solve your problem.
same problem with same ROM but fr version. :x I've no solution....
I'm interesting by a simply explanation :!:
1-2tje:
Yes I have spbpocketplus. I'll do what you suggeat and test. Thank you
I have the same problem but with MultiMedia messages (not text messages) being sent twice. I think tmail.exe handles those too, so I'll try your suggestion.
Andre
If it doesn't work (e.g. for MMS), try adding the file "poutlook.exe" in the \windows folder to the exeption list.
This seems to happen when you close the messaging application before the text message is sent. If you wait 2-3 seconds after sending your sms before you close the messaging application you should not get this problem.
Re: Sending twice
Hi all, I thought i'd add my findings to this.
It has happened since the Wallaby's this has. I found it was down to not waiting for the "sms sent" nitification. If you shut the app before you get that notification it sends them twice. If you wait for the notification and then shut, you'll be ok.
I haven't tested this on the wizard as i use SmartSkey to close, which has an exception list, messaging being one of them so i only ever minimise it, but this was certainly the case on the older models.
So yeah, I gussied-up my M500 with a bigstorage rom from the ftp and it's pretty hot.
Thing is, even after installing pretty much all but the most offensive-looking cabs from the orange ext-rom, I have no MMS functionality.
I've got the access point settings just fine, but in messaging there is no MMS account, nor any way to add one.
Is it a .cab that I'm missing? There /are/ a couple that refuse to install, says they're missing a file somewhere in the Windows directory?
Man, it seems forum search is an ancient art unknown to the people of today.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=36637
I did not install Caller ID, but only installed an older version 2.0.0.x from an older extrom.
For version 2.0.x: Remember that Pocket Outlook has to run always in order to receive MMS. So if you use some kind of taskmanager, prevent poutlook.exe from being closed (this can be configured in SPB Plus)
Cheers,
Mundl
OK, so let's try this out!
Also: I totally searched! I guess my search-fu is weak ;_;
[edit] All seems to be working, ish. Though a message someone claims to have sent me last night is in limbo or something? I guess if the phone doesn't know what's what then a MMS sent to it is lost forever?
Sigh... Having some issues.
Before I start, here's the specs:
Cingular 8125
CID/SIM Unlocked
Service: Cingular
ROM: Molski's 2.26.10.2 AKU2.3
Radio: 02.47.11
Protocol 4.1.13.24
IPL/SPL: 2.26
The problem: At random, messaging just quit working all together. I havent installed anything new. I was able to send a text message this morning at 10AM and I tried opening up messaging today around 5:00pm and nothing happens. Messaging via Softkey, today screen, start menu, you name it... It doesn't work.
I've searched for about an hour both on this forum and google and I can't find any real solutions to this problem. I hope there is a fix out there and I just haven't found it.
I tried viewing processes in taskmanager while pressing the messaging softkey, and tmail.exe will appear in the processes list for about half a second then disappear. I viewed Windows\Messaging\ and there are a bunch of 0kb files there. The sms backup program included with Molski's rom won't work. It gives me the following error: "GetFolder: 0 error."
I'm guessing that some database went corrupt? Anyone have any feedback on this? Any fixes short of doing a hard reset? I'd like to avoid a hard reset because it's a major PITA to restore everything. How common is it to have to do hard resets if everything has been functioning properly with no tinkering? This 8125 is becoming a major headache for me. =\
Alright, I've found this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=269644&highlight=messaging+button+does
Apparently closing out tmail.exe will cause issues. I'm guessing this is related to using the "Close All" button that was included in Molski's rom. I'm not sure if the close all feature is available via pocketplus... If it is, I'd add tmail.exe to the exceptions list, but I have no clue where to find the settings for the "Close All" button.
Anyone have any idea?
I just had this happen to me today, is there a way to fix it?
Any fixes for this? I have read some people doing a hard restart, but I would rather not have to do that. Thanks.
For what it's worth, I had the same thing this week. Couldn't find anything simple anywhere. So..., I removed my 1G ram card. Messaging worked! I found that I had hundreds of texts in the various messaging folders and I deleted everything. So far, so good.
I noted that "running programs" shows only which folder is active in messenger, eg "text", "pop3", "sbc" or whatever you've named your services.
Oh, I'm using the WM5 messenging program that came standard. tmail? Hope this helps some other lost soul!

try format the device to refrish it
Hi,
I've been having the same problem with my Trinity, running the last Ax3l WM6 ROM (although I don't believe the ROM is at fault).
The messaging application simply stopped launching, be it from the menu shortcuts or the executable itself.
I've tried the SIM in another phone, which sends and recieves SMS OK.
After finding this post and reading suggestion the above, I tried removing the MMC and it started working again, and all my old messages were still there also. With the card back in, the problem returned.
I wasn't sure where (or why) the phone is storing SMS/messaging related stuff on my MMC card. The only thing i could find was an empty folder (no hidden or system files either):
\storage card\Inbox.mst.23423(random nos...)
tried renaming to OLD first, and all was fine again, so deleted it. weird.
Anyway, thought I'd add that in the hope it might help someone with the same issues
I had the same problem and followed these steps, it worked, Thanks for the advice.

@boma23
THANK YOU!!! Deleted the file soft reset and it's working again.
I think the file is created if you go into the messaging options and check the box that says "When available, use this storage card to store attachments"
I was about 5 seconds away from doing a hard reset when I stumbled upon this thread.
THANK YOU
I found this thread and tried it...It saved my day. I was about to have a fit!
Thanks again
