Is T-Zones Dead? - Networking

My network access is suddenly dead too. I've used TZones for years, but now I can't get any kind of data connection. Voice works fine.
Ran the tmobyjoe599.cab a couple of times, rebooted. No joy. I did notice there was no APN value entered, but manually adding wap.voicestream.com or epc.tmobile.com didn't make any difference.
Called 611, but they are clueless. Got various canned answers like "Tzones was never intended to allow web access" or "We've been upgrading all our APNs" and "There is a know Tzones proble, but we don't know what it is, or what the symptoms are."
Anyone know what's going on? (The phone is a HTC Touch Cruise/Polaris w/WM6.1 if it matters)

my tzones work... i use epc.tmobile.com

Well reports of TZones death may be premature. Tried my SIM in another phone, and was able to make a data connection.
So I put the SIM back, and ran tmobyjoe599 again. Still no joy. Started to worry I would need to do a hard reset on the phone.
Noticed that when I looked at the connection settings, there were no entries visible under the modems tab. Ran tmobyjoe599 again, still nothing visible. Started to manually add a modem, but found that the name "My Connection" was already in use.
So I went into the registry, and ham-handedly deleted all references to "My Connection". Still no joy. So on a hunch I did the same to all entries under connections headings for "T-Mobile US". That made the whole "T-Mobile US" section under Settings->System->Connections disappear. Which was a good thing. Ran tmobyjoe599 yet again, and finally things worked. The "T-Mobile US" section was back, and two proxies were now visible.
So it looks like something was corrupted. T-Mobile was useless for troubleshooting. Couldn't even definitively say if the problem was me or the system.
Maybe this thread will help someone else.

I had a problem similar to yours, what I did was go to my.t-mobile.com and change my phone model from a t-mobile wing to a dumbphone ie. Nokia 5310 and Presto!
Somehow, it started working.
I hope it helps!

epc.tmobile is now rejecting my G1 on tzones.

Did AT&T Shutdown the internet for WAP Users?

I have the unlimited Medianet service with AT&T. This morning I noticed I couldn't get on the internet with my Tilt. I tried all sites with no luck. I restarted my connection, and even did a SR. Nothing! I went to my wife's BJ2... samething. Anyone have some insight on what I'm going through? Is the reign of $15 unlimited internet over?
I'm having problems, too, but I suspect mine are more complex than yours.
I've been having difficulty connecting to the internet after loading WM6. Before that, I had WM2003SE and my phone started connecting w/ GPRS spontaneously. It was costing me a lot, because I had one of the smaller mMode plans. Tried to switch over to MEdia Net, and customer service wouldn't let me since my phone is a PDA (SX66). They want us to spring for the $35 service.
I'm wondering if I need to upgrade my radio (running on 1.02.10) or look for a patch of some sort to get my internet connectivity working again. Right now I can't connect to anything and AT&T tech support suspects that I may have corrupted something with the OS upgrade. I'm not technologically savvy, so I'm really at a loss for ideas on this.
I refuse to purchase a new device simply to get internet back. I love my SX66 and would hate to give it up.

try removing the wap username and password... They changed the connection settings to not have username and password anymore!
See this link for more info:
http://www.wireless.att.com/answer-center/main.jsp?t=solutionTab&solutionId=KB84444
but it specifically says to leave user/pass blank!

My HTC wizard has no username or pass on the WAP settings, but it still refuses to connect. I doesn't even display the G or E....
Judging by AT&T's Medianet forum, a lot of people are having problems, and AT&T's response has been sticking their fingers in their ears and telling people to check their settings and call support. Unfortunately I'm in training for a certification all week and am not a authorized account whatever....so I have to wait until the member of the family that is and myself have similar schedules.
Removing the username and pass worked on my tilt. I have interenet.
Still no internet for me. I double (well, quintuple) checked my settings, and I get the same problem when I put my SIM in an old AT&T Sony Ericsson clamshell, so it's definately not my settings.

Data connection problem!! PLEASE HELP!!

ok, so today i was showing off my phone..but then accidently dropped it...
the battery and the cover all flew off the phone...but this wasnt the first time this happen.
being embarrassed, i picked up my x1 and put it back together.
tho my x1 suffer from a minor scratch, everything(software and hardware) was working fine
the only problem now is that my data (edge) service doesnt work. i tried soft resetting and hard resetting. but tho i am connected to my service provider, t-mobile(USA), i have no data service. is there anything wrong with my x1? could sumthing inside broke?
Note: prior to dropping my phone my internet was working fine, so nothing was wrong with my data plan.
Thanks for your time,
Same thing happened to me today on T-mobile USA. Were you connecting over wap.voicestream.com? I'm not sure, but T-mo might have changed something with that server today. Therefore, it might be a coincidence that this happened after you dropped your phone. See if you can fix the problem by going to settings>connections>connections>advanced>select networks>my ISP then click edit, then click edit again, then hit next, then change wap.voicestream.com to internet2.voicestream.com. That solved the problem for me.

Rogue Data Connection while BLANK apn is selected

Hi everyone. I have a problem that makes NO sense at all - but it's still a problem. Here goes:
As per recommendation of a number of people around here, and because I do not have a data plan, I have had two APNs for a while now: one was the real orange UK apn I use (let's call this "real") and the other, named "null" was empty (let's call this "fake"), so that I could switch between them and avoid paying most of the time. This worked perfectly up to...
The day I received an sms (perhaps mms? not sure) from 1550. As far as I know that's the number Orange UK spams its users from. There was the text "RockCorps" and a very small attachment (15kb I think). I accidentally pressed the "download" button but did cancel right after. I'm not sure if anything downloaded at all, but I didn't actually notice anything different, except...
My data connection was suddenly on. I could see the GPRS icon, and NetSentry also reported transmitted data. I checked the apn selection screen, which confirmed that my apn was still set to the fake one. But data was being transmitted!
So while I am using a fake, blank APN, gprs goes on and off as it pleases and transmits data.
I find this very alarming (and costly). I have tried to fix the issue by:
*selecting only 2G networks (to be safe)
*turning off always on mobile data
*turning off pretty much any phone setting that have to do w/ mobile data/GPRS.
*deleting ALL apns and re-creating them
*restoring apn list to blank factory setting and then reentering both apns.
NOTHING has worked. The phone still acts as if I have the real apn selected although the fake one is selected.
The ONLY method I've found so far for the phone to stop rogue GPRSing is to delete the real APN from the list. But whenever I add it again, without selecting it, the phone exhibits the same behaviour I describe above.
I'm clueless and a bit worried here. This is not making any sense, and the exact same settings I'm using now were working perfectly exactly up to the minute I opened the aforementioned message. Can anyone please help?
---further phone info----
HTC Magic, w/ cupcake, bought in Greece fully unlocked, with NO settings/added applications added by the carrier. NOT rooted.
Using it in the UK, on Orange mobile pay-as-you-go.
I had to enter mobile data settings myself: only entered GPRS apn (I'm not sure if that's a choice or up to the provider, but I've never seen any edge/3g icons up there).

just got data T8282...cant connect on ATT!

cant anyone help me out with this? i went through the AT&T fuze tutorial online yet it still cant connect.
i dont think its because my device is a -82 vs the newer -85 is it? i got this phone with the understanding that the -82 will work but not at full 3g speed. thanks!
ive downloaded/installed the proxy patch 2.1 and att wat medianet and mms cabs...to no avail
Is the phone running a stock HTC ROM? If so, just run the HTC Connection Setup Wizard from Start -> Settings -> Connections. It will detect your AT&T SIM, and configure the MEdia Net connection correctly.
Oh, and moving out of ROM Development.
yea i have that set with wap.cingular access point and it cant connect still....no usernames or passwords or domains.
this page to be exact

When you look at the advanced setting of the connection it created, make sure that under Proxy Settings only "This network connects to the Internet" is checked. "This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet" should be unchecked.
I've used the T8282 on ATT and am currently using T8285. Both worked without a problem. Is the phone detecting your sim card? Is ATT network set-up, but your just showing now service? Look at your phone settings and check to see if a band has been selected ie GSM 1900/2100, auto etc. I don't recall the stock rom as well, haven't used it in 6 months, but if I recall, go to settings tab in manila, select the phone, wifi, internet etc. option, then select phone. You should find an option that says change band. Select it and see what band your phone is set to. If anything, check auto, and see what happens.

if it doesnt detect the sim card i wouldnt be able to call right? i can call. phone functions fine (cant send txt messages though for some reason but can receive).
im looking under settings > phone
Current network: AT&T Wireless
network selection: automatic
band: both network and GSM/UMTS set to auto
Did you say above that there was no username or password set in the settings->connections->connections? In other words the required username and Pass of Medianet?
yes those fields are left blank as per atts support page i linked
Go ahead and select "manage connections" under Media Net. On the next screen choose edit and go through until you can add the user and pass
All caps
Username: [email protected]
Pass: CINGULAR1
I had to fill these in manually when I first received my T8285. My data worked thereafter.
You're configuring your unlocked HD via the set up of a carrier based ATT Fuze. I think may be some of the problem. I configured the settings on mine seemingly a hundred times, but never in the manner suggested by the linked support page.
yea i was reading that and just checked this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=447648
and did what you said....no luck
tried [email protected] and [email protected] too
this is stupid. haha shoudltn be this hard. thanks for all the support, i appreciate it
lady at att did say this plan took effective 1.5 weeks ago so even though i called in today to change my plan to a data one...it should be working...
probably be easier if i could screenshot my phone....
Mine is [email protected]. Out of curiosity, did you input it in "all caps"?
yep tried:
[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]
my sim card is really old...can that be a problem??
phone should be "dialing" wap.cingular correct?
i wonder if there are problems with my phone because i cant send text messages either and if i go to settings > phone > services tab > voice mail and text messages.... it cant get any info from the network...
Yes indeed. Mine is two years old. Some that still have the cingular card have had issues. I guess the quickest way to find out is pop someone else's sim in to see if it configures your setting properly. When you go through set up initially, your ATT settings should be populated automatically. I'd like to see you get this working.
well my sim card is way beyond that. it was before att changed their name to cingular (and apparently back to att again now). got it when i got the sony ericsson t610 when it was first released...2003???
i wonder if this truly is the problem and i wonder if i take it into a store will they help me out since i have an unsupported phone.
phone when i got it new was able to call right away when i first got it and first popped in this oldie sim...so as far as settings are concerned, its working in that aspect
A sim that old could most certainly be the problem. ATT should support you. If it's the sim, then it's a service related issue and not an issue with the device. It may be that you just run by att and have them pop one of theirs' in and see. Another thought, after inputing the username and Pass, are you soft resetting?
I've used this cab on some devices (e.g. xperia) to get the AT&T data to work.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=67434&d=1201326345
see if that helps for you. I believe it's designed for the Tilt but shouldn't do any harm on your HD...
ok i finally figured this out after going to the att store. it turns out it was indeed my sim card that was keeping me from sending text messages (back in this old thread i started http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=515288&highlight=send+text+messages).
the online issue was due to 2 things. the att lady told me she had added a data plan but turns out when i went to the store the dude there checked and there was no data plan. second was again because of the old sim card.
my sim card was from back in the days of the sony ericsson t610 back in 2003 before att became cingular (and now back to att again).
so hopefully this thread can be future reference for others that may have trouble with their blackstone! woohoo!! i am connected now. feels good to have internet everywhere i go.

MMS Issues with Consumer Cellular

My wife just got in her Essential phone and is on Consumer Cellular, she is having an issue receiving MMS from her friends, as it always says "Pending download". She turned off wi-fi (I saw this in another thread) but it still won't work (although mine come thru just fine). I know this is an APN issue as she just put the card in and went to town but she doesn't have the option to change the APN settings. How can we change the settings?
We figured it out, just had to "Clear network settings" and the APN's opened up for editing. Entered the data and restarted, works like a charm.
Essential phone
Hi, I've also got an essential phone and also use consumer Cellular, but I can't get my sim card to work in the essential phone. I've contacted the previous carrier, Sprint, and the phone is unlocked, and I've contacted consumer Cellular but nobody seems to know exactly what's going on with my phone. Did you have any problems like this? Can you help me at all?
Thanks
