Anyone with GPS connectivity issues? - XPERIA X1 General

Hi,
I seem to be experiencing an issue with GPS connectivity on my X1.
Starting up TT7 and the program initially finds the GPS device and then searches for a valid GPS signal. Some moments later however, TT7 reports no GPS device!
Then it reports the GPS signal was lost x minutes/seconds ago - an ever increasing time.
If I click the configuration bar in TT7 and go to select GPS I see the GPS sats and signal strength. Observing this over a number of minutes I can see that the GPS gets a signal and 6-7-8 bars go blue, but then a moment later they all simultaneously drop the connection (grey bar remains - blue bar gone).
Strangely, google maps find the GPS signal and keeps it without issue.
This an issue with TT7 and the version I have (7.455.9028)??
Worked perfectly in my previous X1 without this issue but this started happening when I upgraded the s/w through SE...
Device info:
ROM Ver: 1.02.931.3
ROM Date: 29/08/08
Radio Ver: 1.06.25.29
Software ID: 1213-6450
Software Ver: R1AA017
Thanks for any help...

If your device info is correct, then I think it's the problem of this ROM version to hold the GPS-connection. In R2AA there are no such problems any more. Try a newer ROM based on R2AA or the original via SEUS from SE.
Sorry for my worse english... thanks.

So, use the SE update service?
Sorry, I am not ROM cooking proficient..

Just looking at the SE Update Service and there is X1i Generic UK CDF1215-1832 now available.
Or are we talking about different things?
And thanks for your time/input..

you have older rom mate just update ur rom using seus and you will b fine.chao

No we don't talk about different things. Updateing your device with SEUS is just like a firmware update on "normal" mobiles. It has nothing to do with ROM cooking.

Hi,
Thanks guys, will give it a go a bit later..

Hi CTCN,
did it work out for you?
I don't agree with the other comments about switching to R2AA and everything will be rosy.
My ROM is R2AA010, generic UK and I have exactly the same problems you describe with both TomTom 7 and iGO8.
The workaround for me is to briefly use GPSCycleComputer (nice program, btw) and then start the nav prog.
I'll try and update to R3AA later this week and check.
If someone has found a solution in the meantime I'd still be interested in case this is still flawed after my upgrade.

i experienced this issue, when googlemaps has been started before tt.
schould be fine after a softreset.

Unable to Make / Receive Calls on Jasjam

I bought my Jasjam 5 days ago. I am having a problem that sometimes people cannot call me. When they make an attempt to call me they get the message that the phone is off-line.
When the phone is in this state I cannot make calls either although I can see the "G" icon as well as the signal bars. The dialer shows "Dialing....." for a few seconds and then cuts out.
This does not happen all the time but say once or twice a day.
Things become okay when I soft reset my phone.
Just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced a similar problem and if there are any solutions. This is very annoying as you are so uncertain that you may not be accessible and you don't even know of that.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Kind Regards
I wonder whether it's worth trying to take it off automatic band selection and choosing GSM only for a day to see if it still has same issue.
Start>SettingsPersonal>Phone icon>Band and selecting GSM in both drop down boxes. In second drop down list it'll be the GSM band for your area or test on each to see which works.
I suggest the above just in case you have the dropped line due to auto swapping between GSM and UMTS issue.
Mike
I seem to have solved the problem of the radio silently switching itself off without me knowing and so risking unnoticed missed calls.
The ROM version supplied from the factory with my Jasjam (HT647xxx) is as follows:-
ROM Version: 1.31.305.2
ROM Date: 8th September 2006
Radio Version: 1.21.31.10
Protocol Version: 32.53.7020.01H
Ext ROM Version: 1.31.305.104
Bootloader Version:1.06
Strangely the I-Mate site at this point states the latest ROM available for download is:
ROM Version: 1.20.305.3
ROM Date: 21st July 2006
Radio Version: 1.07.03.10
Protocol Version: 32.41.1010.02H
Ext ROM Version: 1.20.305.104
Bootloader Version:1.04
So I flashed my Jasjam with the ROM of 21st July 2006 downloaded from the I-Mate site.
For the last two or three days since I have downgraded the ROM the problem of radio switching itself off seems to have disappeared.
Just wondering if I-Mate are aware of the problem with the ROM currently being shipped with new devices and so decided the keep the old ROM for download on their website.
I will continue checking and report if I see the problem reappearing.
I thought to share this information in case it is useful for any one of us.

I already changed the rom 6 times, to 6 different roms (official, boiled, WM5.0, 6.0, 6.1), but nothing happened... I already try to change radio rom only to a different and back to the original. But nothing...
The last service said "the hardware is ok", they measured everything.
The problem is that the phone connect to the tower, but after 1 minute lost the connection, but show me the full signal level and I'm unavailable. At the first call that I make it show me an "operation failed" message and reconnect...
I think it sounds more like a radio ROM issue than an OS ROM. I had similar issues until I found a radio ROM that worked for me.

Hi, thanks for your answer. I had change my OS ROM and Radio ROM to your settings
IPL 1.04/ SPL: Hard-SPL V7 2.10.OLIPRO
Radio 1.48.00.00
Rom Version:Josh's Manilla2D v15
But nothing...
Please help me, my Dopod 838 Pro has No GSM!
This sounds similar to the problem's I'm having with my Sony Ericsson X1. It started a couple of weeks ago, seemingly spontaneously. I had been running the same firmware (generic UK R3AA010) for quite a while with no problems (at least more than usual with the X1) but suddenly one day these symptoms show up:
People who try to call me get an "unavailable" tone. If they try again it works fine
If I try to call someone, it just silently fails the first time. If I try again it works fine
So it seems that the phone gets disconnected form the network somehow. It can't just be that the phone network looses track of where the phone is (in which cell), since it affects outgoing calls as well.
I've tried this with two different SIM cards from different operators with identical results.
I've tried a couple of other firmware versions with no help. If anyone can help with information on this I'd be very grateful.
There's no way I can use a phone that people can't reach me on, but I can't stand the thought of throwing a fairly expensive phone in the trash.
exactly same problem here. I figured out that switching off the phone function in comm manager and then switching it back on does the trick without soft-reset, but I don't need to explain to you how annoying it is... I've already changed 4 OS roms and 2 radio roms with no result... I'd appreciate any suggestion very much.

Problems with new IGO 8.31

I have one big problem. I am using Polaris/HTC Touch Cruise with latest WM 6.1 offical release. I have installed IGO 8.31. I have constantly GPS signal losing. GPS signal (all satelites)just disappear and then is back. About 30 sec I have GPS signal and then is about 30 sec.with no GPS signal. Basicly this software works just fine on my Polaris, but I can't use software because of this GPS signal disappearing problem.
Google maps works just fine, with no GPS signal dissapearing problem. I have 3-7 satelites all the time.
So I think that there is not problem with my device. I think that there is some problem with com ports.
Can somebody please help me
Thanks in advance.
Maybe a radio problem with your ROM. There is a newer ons... its in M'amine ROM post..: 1.59.42.23
Hard Reset
Some time (most of the times ) you need to consider one of the options:
1. Hard reset and before reconfigure your device - see if the IGO works fine
2. change ROM - since different ROM behave differently regurding your device
3. upgrade to IGO 8.0.4 - since 8.0.3 is known as problematic since 6.1
He means iGo 8.3, not 8.0.3 There is such a release but IT'S ONLY FOR PNA. Some ppl got it working on PDA, but well....many things don't work as expected. Animated menus crash the program etc. So go back to 8.0.4 and forget about those 07.08 maps for some weeks
Maybe upgrading the radio ROM might help...
forget the version 8.31
use the 8.0.0.54000
this works
the new version hav a lot of bugs and can't use the generic skins, maps, ....
there are more bugs as the version 8.0.0.54000
you ca trust me
(i test the new version for 2 days .....)

Bullsjit! The 8.3.xxxx version is way better then the previous one. I suggest u do a hard reset, install iGO8.3 and see if it works...
Upgrade your radio to version 1.59.42.23. Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=379599 I use Khanx 1.4 with igo8.3xxx and TT7 and it works perfectly.
Maps is no problem: just follow this link: http://http://volny.cz/sstopar/mio_mapy_igo8.html and download the 2008.07 maps. They only works with Igo8.3xxx
For plugins en speedcams check this site:
http://http://www.i-go8.com/
Hope it works; otherwise PM me for some additional "questions".
Thanks guys for all answers.
I tested almost all 6.1 ROMs and both radios.
The problem is same with all ROMs an radios.
I prefer 8.31, because of Slovenia 08.07 map. This map have 72% coverage for Slovenia. Is almost perfect and works just with 8.31 version of IGO.
All earlier maps have about 40% coverage.
And I really have no more ideas why is this GPS problem.
And yes, 8.31 version is best till now. This version have some "reality view".
Someone told me that I must completely dissable A-GPS function, but in registry I can see that A-GPS is set to 0. So I think that already is dissabled.

I am using iGo 8.3.1 (sep25) with new maps and don't have any problems, working perfectly fine. Better than version 8.0.0.54000, which used to crash a lot and never worked. Using udK's R0 and radio that came with that.
Hi, everyone, I'm using the latest touch navia 1.4 pro and the iGO 8.3.1, the program seems to install fine, but hangs on for forever every time I try to run it. The radio is 1.59.42.23 and the only thing that comes to my mind is that i've put some of the content from (neither maps nor poi's) the previous version into this one, can anyone suggest something else to get it working?
Try a clean install. iGo 8.3 works perfectly for me with KhanX 1.4 Navia ROM.
Alright, worked as a clean install (with a file downloaded from a different source) after a hard reset. This was a really clean install - all the additional files (maps, buildings, etc) were added later, and it works. Thanks for advice
Sorry, don't work with clean install and Knax 1.4 ROM.
How can I completely dissable A-GPS?
Thanks
Hi guys.
I found solution for my problem.
Seems that this version of Igo don't keep GPS signal active (problem with internal GPS). You must run some another application in background, google maps,holdux,... to keep GPS signal active all the time.
But the easiest way is this:

Strange.. i dont have this problem...
I also have IGO 8.31 and I confirm that it works fine on my Polaris.... there is indeed a number of bugs but compared to 8.0 it's better.
i was testing igo 8.3.1 and i have to admit, that maps are impressive
i had no any problems with software stability, connection loosing or so
only thing i had to change was keeping tc alive - change setting responsible for power management in igo (default was stupid...)
unfortunately gps was inaccurate and had huge delay - sa there was no point to use it at all for example even with "high accuracy" my position on map ware jumping around my real location for few hundred meters (with or without "keep on road" setting active) and, on the move, igo was showing were i was about 15 sec ago (kinda off...)
definitely that's not stable version for pda
strongly unrecommend

well - some guys thinking to knowing it better ...
of course , there are some good features .. but more new bugs .... and forgotten fixing of old bugs ... ;-(
I used iGO 8.3.1 series for a week but just had to revert back to the older versions. On the whole it worked OK, no bugs, and I love the way it would display the large road signs when passing junctions on major roads, but, it was the routing, it was completely bizarre. Everything was set-up as with earlier versions but it used to take me, or try to take me completely different ways, and not even by a little, I mean major diversions within my town where I've lived all my life, and thus its usage became unbearable.
Hopefully this was just a 'one-off' so I'll give later versions a try when released.

After Update no Gps Signal!! HELP

Hello!
Can anyone pls help me i have made an Update on my x1 to the Generic de r2 Rom, and now do dont get a gps signal anymore. I have tried it with igo8 and there was no signal and i also tried it with goggle maps -- Same result.
Even some hard resets dont solve the problem, does anybody know how i can get my Gps Signal back?
Thank you
Sorry I don't know how to get your GPS signal back, but I am happy to hear that more people than me are having problems with the new ROMs . I do have GPS, but no bluetooth! Hard reset and reflash doesn't work. I have tried swedish and UK rom. Same result.
My guess (=hope) is that there is a reason that these new ROMs aren't official yet, and that SE will work out the bugs before the official release (which should be any day now if one is to believe various sources on the net).

These releases are OFFICIAL and come either directly from the service centre update service (EMMA) requiring RUU or the Memory Card bootload method, or like most regular people from the Sony Ericsson Update Service (SEUS) which you can download from their site.
I read just the opposite opinion on ROM thread where is stated that UK_Generic is not at SEUS yet...
Weird, my GPS works worlds better after the update than before.
I am also having problems with GPS after updating to the new generic UK ROM.
I cant save my external GPS settings (hardware) found at settings>external GPS. Google maps says cant detect GPS hardware. My GPS used to work with the old ROM.
One problem I have found with flashing to a new cooked ROM is the country location. Sometimes the regional settings has set the country to US instead of UK. For some reason this prevents the GPS getting the right sattelites.
So check under start/settings/system/regional settings to make sure it's pointing at the right country
Try these settings
COM pot 2
bitrate 9600
I soft reset my phone and tried these settings, now it works....
Did they change the GPS ports with firmware?

no internal gps on tp2

hey folks,
trying to get my internal gps working now for days and it a no go for my.
tryed the next software for it and they all came up black. (no fix, no gps found, com poort not open, nmea error.)

- sex1 gps tool
- gps tuner 5, 5.3, 6.
- google maps
- trackmyrun
i,m running out of ideas, could it be the rom i,m using.

Are you running a stock ROM ? If not, did your GPS work on the stock ROM ?
If your GPS has never worked then it may well be a hardware problem. But if it used to work and stopped with a cooked ROM, then there was a version of WM where GPS support was broken.
Google maps also needs internet connection, you have one? Also try with a navigation software like TomTom or Igo, in Igo you have to let the software discover the port used.
i have seen one or twice the gps icon.
futher al apps keep searching for it.
i,m on a stock rom 1.88.404.3 (67102) NLD
i will have a go with Igo.
thx sofar
You could also try:
Chartcross GPStest.
Go sit next to a road so that it is easier to get a signal...
And it might take a few minutes until it got a fix.
And if you have a data connection (like T-Mobile web 'n walk), enable A-GPS in your settings. Good luck
If it helps you, the GPS port is 4 and the speed is 38400, in Igo you cann set it yourself or let the software find it
thx for the advice guys,
but i fried my rom yesterday, i believe that was the problem all along.
so i,m gona seek for a new rom, don,t now cooked or vanila.
i will post here if the gps wil function then.

If you are searching for a new rom try the Phoenix 2 rom from NRGZ.
It is also available in Christmas theme
And it comes with many gps settings and apps.
k k,
i wil have a go with it, downing it now.
i wil report back on howe it went.

GPS-Bug after OTA-Update 2.50.xx.x

Sorry mate, did not read you are using vodafone.
In this case wait for an update with fix.
Cheers.
Oops - not updated my signature lately.
This should be correct now
Confirmed on mine too. Used GPS Test and it just couldnt find anything. Any way to downgrade?
Me too! Well at least initially.
The GPS appeared to be dead, not finding any satellites. However I left it on using GPSTest and after about 5-10 minutes it eventually started to find satellites and then improved in accuracy over the next couple of minutes. Much the same way as you would get from a completely cold boot, when the phone doesn't know where on the globe it is. I did a couple of reboots after I first read this thread. Just took a drive and it seems to navigate okay as well.
Unfortunately I had already fired an email off to HTC telling them I was displeased. At least it may make them get something sorted out for those with no GPS at all by adding to the complaints file.
I had a vague hope that the OTA update was preparing the DHD for an unlocked bootloader.
Can we restrict it to certain devices?
Are affected only branded devices, even when using different providers?
There are only old or newly purchased equipment?
After all, some have no problem with GPS.
mine have the same problem.vodafone
Mine to, O2 Germany
Hi,
I have the same problem. My Desire HD are of Vodafone Spain.
With GPS status, downloaded satellite's data, fix faster then the older rom, 8/8 satellites, and google maps works fine.
I have an unbranded dhd.
What's the problem?
Vodafone DHD (NL), no GPS after update.
Hard resets didn't help either.
A cold start can take up to 10mn if you have a poor reception.
Did you try with GPS Status and downloaded the A-GPS data before trying to launch google maps?
Those who did that seemed to have it working again...
I don't get a fix after >30min's. Did everything hard reset, gps status, agps....
Looks like it's only some branded phones that have the problem.
I would like try to download RUU and reflash via PC, but where is RUU?

any news about this?
No GPS here after the update too..non brand Desire HD I have..Czech Republic
