Touch Cruise Annoyances - Touch Cruise 2 General

So I bought this phone 2 days ago and it was working fine. But it quickly lost its "wow" factor after about 5 hours. I hadn't even installed any softwares on it other than what the dealer put into it, and in less than 24 hours I am already getting pissed at HTC. Oh yes, the phone is great and all, but HTC sucks at making phones.
1) Word completion was working fine in keyboard mode, but after switching to other HTC inputs and then back to keyboard, word completion with keyboard is now DEAD. Not even after a soft restart fixed it.
2) No light to indicate Bluetooth/Wifi switched on
3) No blinking light to indicate phone is running
4) Start menu doesn't have the "Click" sound
5) I can't assign the god damned GPS and footprint button to do something else, what a piece of crap!
6) TouchFLO isn't smart enough to detect if I want to select multiple objects, or if I want to scroll!
7) No option to do a software soft reset
8) Need to open the back cover to do a reset
9) Menu text IS WAY TOO BIG, HTC you blind idiots!
10) The system doesn't come out from standby when I receive an SMS, meaning I have to press the fragile power button to read it.
11) I can't uninstall TouchFLO or any of the other stupid HTC softwares.
12) Manuals were unhelpful.
I already feel like flashing the damn ROM from this phone, get rid of all that stupid HTC crap. Don't get me wrong, the phone looks sleek, display is nice, response is faster than most other Dopod/HTC crap phones, the scroll button is kool, camera quality is good, but it's just so damn annoying. I'm probably going to just give it to my girlfriend, whoever she will be. My Atom Exec still rocks.
Overall rating for this phone: 5.5/10
Apparently the word completion bug seems to be HTC wanting to replace the WM dict with eT9
If anyone has a way of fixing the word completion bug, and the GPS/footprint button assignments, I will be very much obliged.

You can change the font size, you know?

RE 10) and your device not waking up when you get an SMS. Go to Start, Settings, Sounds & Notifications, then click on the Notifications tab. Tap on the dropdown box next to 'Event', find and select 'Messaging: New SMS', then tick 'Display Message on screen' and hit OK : )

I do agree with most of the complaint. I am very very disappointed with this Cruise 2. I thought it is a smaller size version of the Cruise 1 (Polaris) except faster and more memories. But it is NOT! It has less buttons than Cruise and two of damn buttons are just useless. HTC sucks!

I tried that option, it doesn't work
As a side note, I thought there was no blue LED to indicate Wifi/Bluetooth status, but last night, I saw a brief flash of blue, and then it never happened again. So there's definitely a blue LED there, but it's not used for Wifi/Bluetooth for some reason.
Anyone wanna trade phones with me?

Unless you want to get an older generation phone!
I also have HTC Touch 3G, it also have same annoyances.
First generation HTC phones has infrared, many buttons and LED's, Flash LED(s) for camera. Separate earplugs and power sockets. Metal bodies.
Then:
They took away the infrared, no more camera Flash light.
They cut the number of buttons.
They cut the LED's. Cut all the metal parts except the screws and printed circuit board contacts and copper traces, USB connector case.
They do make the phone smaller, lighter, more functions and more memories.
BTW, HTC have replaced the metal hook for phone string to plastic hook and smaller metal logo plate from Touch 3G to Touch Cruise(09).
I think the next version phone is going to be glassless and metal-less. Case will be just snap-on. The metal logo plate will be just a print on case or a paper sticker. They might attempt to use plastic USB connector. If anything has shorter lifetime, that means they will have better business. That might lead them to put a small timed self-destructive device just beyond the warranty period in the machine. They would love to cut the warranty time from a year to 3 months or better, 30 days. The new Sony laptops already ask customer to pay extra to extend the warranty period from 3 months to a year.
People want green earth but also want everything disposable! What gives?

I thought I'm the only one who's facing the problem of the blue led indicator.

What blue led indicator? There is no blue led indicator afaik...
Or do you mean the "lack of" blue led indicator?
By the way, you resurected a 8 month old thread!

Uranus, with everything you say about the HTC Iolite, I throw it out the window
Incidentally, my Iolite works perfectly and the problem of the dictionary (in Spanish) does not exist.
Regards!!!

I don't think uranus is still around here, his last post on the forum was in april 09... Again this thread is from that timeframe...

Great clarification!!!!

With some time and effort most of these annoyances can be solved or tweaked.....various good ROM's (Billabong) and many many software/tweaks around.....
What I do agree is that Polaris was more robust....but Iolite is better overall.....
In the end you can not produce a phone at reasonable price every-body is happy with.....
FC

i do truly miss a led that indicates that the phone is on

Will this help? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=371278

Update:
Hi fellas,
After over a year, I finally decided to ditch this P.o.S. to my roomie. Things I've managed to fix:
1) Word completion, via a registry tweak in \HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Layouts\e0010409\
Ime File=\windows\compime.dll
Layout Text =COMP IME
(I am still using this solution today for my HD2 which I flashed on the same day I bought it, I can't stand that HTC interface I got all annoyed at it after 5 minutes LOL)
2 & 3) nueLED is cool, but doesn't work
4) Start menu still doesn't have the "Click" sound
5) I still can't assign the GPS and footprint button to do something else
6) TouchFLO have to be "compromised" with smarter apps.
7) Need to use 3rd party app to do software reset
9) Managed to modify the popup menu text. Still, come on...
\HKLM\System\GWE\Menu\Popup
10) The system still doesn't wake up on sms despite changing the registry key which enables wake up on SMS.
I'm MUCH more happy with S200 in contrast, only problem is the weak vibration.

**Please develop this clever people**

I'm sure many people here agree that it's very annoying when you're speaking on the phone and your ear accidentally opens up windows and programs or even worse - ends the call!
Surely one of you very clever chaps can make an app that uses the light sensor so that the Diamond knows you are speaking and therefore locks the screen.
It would help so much,
S.
The clever people already did it but because we, normal people, are too lazy to search through, can´t see it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=425650
...and this is just one example
I'm aware of this software but how does it work within phonecalls? I'm not talking about when the phone rings, I mean post-unlock during the phonecall...
read the post man, it`s not very large and you will find it like I did
The program doesn't do what I describe above, although the idea is brought up a few times in the thread. It can switch off the screen but i'm talking about the light sensor doing this automatically...
The Diamond already turns off the screen when you hold it to your ear (by using the light sensor)...
I thought the diamond shut off the screen on speaking/connecting the call? Plus, it doesn't turn back on without pressing the power button...
the light sensor is not sensitive enough for this use.
:-( Damn! That's a shame.

Interesting, the light sensor of my phone can do this. Initially, the screen turned off whenever I picked up a call. I found it annoying because many a times, I need to use the screen to key in some numbers (pin, a/c numbers, whatever). Then, I used Adv. Conf. to turn this feature off. And I found it even more annoying as I actually hanged up twice by my ear accidentally touching "end call" button. Now, I turned this back on again.... still annoying but less....
I think your light sensor should be able to do this. Maybe you can check this feature on Adv. Conf. to see if it's turned off by accident.
The only things that were turned off in adv.config were 'sleep during call' and 'fast sleep'. I have switched these on and the screen does switch off but is this due to the light sensor? I now use S2U2's feature to switch the screen off as it's faster (screen switches off on connection)...
But, with all these options, I also find it annoying when I have to key in my pin etc. That's why utilising the light sensor so when you take the phone away from your face it switches back on, would be great.
this is really funny! some ppl want this thing off and some ppl want this thing on.
for the record:
the diamond is by default switching off the screen after a few seconds. when i said the diamond i meant the light sensor.
now, from the history:
long, long time ago (about 3-4 months ) the devs here were trying to switch off this feature because if you have to dial one more number or want to switch yr speaker you'll face a black screen (just touch the middle/enter button and you are back in business). some said it is the light sensor, some said it is a timer.....mostly they tried by registry tweaks, don't even remember who was the first to succeed but it was a great victory ...hahahaha
today we have a few options. one of them (the most popular one i think) is schap's advanced configuration. another was is the famous twaek 3.2 (today is 5?).
on the last month we have a few ROMs that already had this tweak built in. i think our friend here has one of those ROMs of them (because he ha sit tweaked already).
m8 i think you can switch this option back to default (switch off the screen) with the advanced config tool.
this one is an example (i think this one was the first):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2278799&postcount=1-tweak no 8.
you can also look at this thread:

or this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=406094&highlight=screen+call
one more:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=415356&highlight=screen+call
and so on ....everything a search away (i used "screen+call")
Thanks for the post, my issue wasn't how to get the screen off during a call. It was what causes it to go off and if it is the light sensor, could an app be made so that when the phone is taken away from your face, the screen switches on again.
I agree. I would love it to switch off as default, but also TURN ON when I pull the phone away from my face... I can't understand why this is not the default behaviour. I have some time later on this month I will look at this more carefully and possibly program the solution.
Sprint Diamond
I agree that would be great. My screen on my Sprint Diamond has never turned off during a phone call. I didn't even know that was a feature on some diamonds until this thread. I have tried making a call and then covering the light sensor but nothing happens. So, here is my vote for the ability to get a screen that turns on and off as you put it to your ear and take it away.
just work exactly the same as iphone and the problem will be solved.......

Impressions after 3 days with the HD

Pro's:
- screen (size, sensitivity, resolution)
- fast processor + huge storage memory
- Youtube playback (only use WiFi). Very good quality, only few occasional frame rate issues
- very good phone quality (audio)
- can mostly be operated by finger, although sometimes you do need the stylus. To me that's no problem.
- format (seems big, but fits perfectly it in your jeans' pocket)
So/so:
- Opera. At times I like it, other times I don't. Maybe I just need to get used to it...
- HTC keyboard. It works, but could be improved.
- Camera is OK, but not spectacular.
- no D-pad, although I have barely missed it so far
Cons:
- Soft reset button is behind back cover. Haven't had the need to use it yet but I am afraid this may become annoying
- LED in On/off button looks stylish, but now I have to look closely on top of my device, rather than to get a quick glance from a distance to see if I missed any phone calls or messages
- Device isn't entirely 'flat on the back' because of camera, which causes some instability while operating it lying on a table
- Virtual buttons; didn't find a way yet to assign different functions
- Not all software works (eg. HiCalc). But this will only be a matter of time
Haven't tested yet:
- movie playback
- MP3 playback
- GPS
Conclusion: so far I am pretty happy with the HD. Ofcourse it could be improved. But that counts for all devices out there...
Hah... This is EXACTLY how I view the HD... nice sum-up Apart from Opera, I do like it, even when it's a little sluggish at times, but mainly because it's on the HD i like it, the huge screen makes most of the difference.
For the keyboard I use TouchPal. Google it. Love it.
The camera is GOOD in good lighting conditions but VERY VERY bad in poor lighting, so yeah, so-so average.
Oh, I regard Audio playback as so-so, video playback as PRO despite what a lot of other people think (so-so). My movies play like a breeze and it's all super sharp thanks to the screen (use CorePlayer).
GPS is also a PRO... I used to own the Diamond (which also did an OK job at it) and I don't know what they improved but they did, I easily get 8-12 or even more connections in Google Maps almost instantly. No inherent GPS lag anymore either. I confirmed it was there on my diamond and confirmed it wasn't there anymore on the HD. Except in Google Maps, there is a slight delay, but that has been commonly agreed upon as an issue in GM and not in the HD.
For the soft reset.....
You can either just power down the device (press and hold power button) and then power back on. It's the same as a soft reset.
or...
I use PHM power toys (they are free) and once installed you get a soft reset program icon. Stick that in the program section of touchflo and no need to take the back off

Er... if the phone freezes, then the power button doesn't work - so you need to hit the soft reset button.
I'd like to be able to turn off/change the function of the volume buttons - too easy to accidently press them - and they are very sensitive. When you want to change the volume they seem very nice, tactile and smooth, but they're just too sensitive when you don't...

I'm the guy who sand-papered the faceted back of his diamond, so for me - drilling a small hole in the back cover to uncover the soft reset button would also be an option.
Thats a good point monkeyboy....
....I'll get me coat
I have used the GPS with TomTom 7 and works like a dream.
Tip: Use Quick GPS to download data first - last for 6 days.
I migrated from Trinity to this phone and have never looked back apart
from the camera - is there a way to stop the 3 second delay and take instant photos without autofocus on -perhaps a reg hack?

But of course he takes the cover off before drilling a hole into it, makes sense don't it
well I am on day two .. its an up and down relationship. One thing doesn't work .. find a how to sort it .. another thing comes up. I wouldn't say that is a phone for the masses.
Day 2 for me and so far:
Pros:
The screen is amazing for ebook reading. Much bigger, clearer & sharper than my Prophet.
I didn't actually realise there was a radio, but it works really well.
The Teeter game is amusing and fun to show off with.
The GPS is very accurate and, because I walk/get the bus, it doesn't need huge amounts of maps, so data's not too bad.
Cons:
TouchFLO has gone. It was too slow for me (no nice run-finger-along-to-scroll)...
No D-pad meant I had to rebind the volume keys to up/down - they work fine now.
The Opera browser doesn't always register my clicks on the links.
I'm very happy with it so far. It does everything I need (which is simple - phone, ebooks, music player!) and does it well with extras. Husband doesn't like it because he likes physical keyboards, but hey!

Take it that goes under the 'Pros' heading then
Day 3 for me too, so I thought I'd share
Pros
blimey - where to start?!
This is my first WM device (see Cons), so pretty much everything is a bonus - but stand out moments have been:
YouTube on the move - I'm not a huge YouTube fan (or at least I wasn't), but I can now while away my time whilst taking a coffee / fag break from work. Beats picking up a book and reading 3 pages before having to put it down.
GoogleMaps. No huge use for me as satnav (got that built into the car), but lots of fun already showing it off to mates LOL
Lots of techy tweaking to be done (yes, I am a Geek at heart...)
Onbviously at lots of this is down to the size and quality of the screen - the main reason that this is my first WM device was being put off by trying to browse etc on a screen the size of a large stamp - the HD size (for me) is about the best compromise - big enough to read, small enough to fit in the pocket.
Cons
becuase it is my first WM device, I'm still trying to desperately get my head around it all!
Getting there though
Congrats on your HD!
Half my friends group has the iPhone, the rest, well, something else. Then I got my HD and lots of them ordered it too, so now it's 4 HD's My father and brother both got the Diamond, and at work many of my colleagues have some version of HTC phone ranging from the TyTNII to the Touch Pro... These things pop up everywhere...

how to avoid ear press the button while speaking?

I tired quite a few roms.
And most of the roms have the problem when I am speaking, my ear touch the screen.
Is there anyway to auto lock the screen once the call is connected??

I turn off the screen with the power button when I take the call.
anyway to make it like the stock rom that you need to slide in order to use the number pad.
Or use regedit to change the setting??
Try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=488991
It uses the g-sensor to detect when the phone is held in the typical in-call position, and turns the screen off. Turns the screen back on again when you move the phone back down from your ear.
Well that option is just fine, it helps you to keep your phone bill affordable ...but without kidding there is another app that let's you phone go to quick sleep it's called:
advanced configuration tool
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=418151
next to those options, there is a lot more to change..if you ain't an expert user, don't mess around with things that you don't understand!!!
thanks for all the input, my rom comes with the advanced configuration tool.
I play around with the light senser and g-senser, but still cant get it work.
I guess I will just keep playing with it.

It is quite surprising that HTC did not put any proximity sensor in topaz. It's not that they aren't aware of this issue, they have put one in rhodium. Then why would they not put one in topaz?
HTC took 3 years to come up with a hardware comparable to iphone. IMHO HD2 is the only one that is comparable and in fact better than iphone. I like HTC and windows mobile... but sometime I feel that they are just using my trust to force me into buying a new phone every year by doing incremental upgrades to their phones.

I have it now,but not happy at all

1.first i had problem to hard reset it,it is not done as users manual says.
2.Digital Compass app needs to Rereset after each soft reset.getting "Magnetic interference" Error
3.Screen is so sensitive that is almost impossible for me to write text messages or e mails.came off Touch Pro 2.there i had no problems.
4.my Volume UP button sudenly stoped working
i think, they rushed the release and made this device pain in the ass.maybe we need a NEW ROM!!!
mine hasn't had these problems, knock wood. And I am loving the speed!
With the screen being so sensitive... why does that make it impossible to write text messages? it just means you dont have to bend your screen when pressing so hard to press a key...?
Having had a Touch HD - owning a TP2 (work) and just having sold an Iphone 3GS - I honestly love mine to bits.
Been playing with the phone all evening - and I have to say I am really impressed - Vibrant screen, awesome speed, gorgeous flash (vid's and pics are quite good too compared to my other/previous phones) - All in all I am well impressed. The OS sits together so well - not having to touch WinMo at all, that this is one ROM I might just stick with!!!
I like the hard buttons on the front of the device - one of the bad sides of the blackstone but I have to agree the screen is VERY sensitive. As I'll be getting an invisishield for it as soon as they are released - this will make it much more useable - struggling at the moment but I can honestly say its a good thing - VERY precise screen - compared to the iphone 3GS (which sometimes required a double press to register) - You just have to think about touching this phone and it reacts - lol
Overall - VERY PLEASED and super happy I ditched my iphone 3GS for this oh and its VERY slim - in fact one of the slimmest HTC devices I have ever laid my hands on. All in all about 2mm bigger in depth, width and height than a 3GS but with like 50% more display area - Now THIS is what I call an iphone killer.

heh, if your passing by hudds soon i.e. on teh weekend let me know fella and i'll hook up.
I agree on the sensitivity....it's awful....if, for example, you type something incorrectly...VERY easy to do..then press delete quickly a few times, it doesn't delete..it starts typing random characters!!
hoping there's a setting for this somewhere. A screen protector might be the answer though in the short term
I also had to hard reset (because I wanted to..not for any other reason) and I followed the procedure in the manual, has been the same for all HTC devices I've had
Not to *****, but the guys saying that the screen is too responsive... Are you used to capacitive screens? You need to get used to it for a bit, especially when you come from resistive screens.
Also, a phone that is TOO responsive? You never hear that from a WM phone .
compared to the iphone (yes, I know..I'm sorry) the screen is lousy!!

that's exactly what i ment.it is realy hard to wrife witbkut making a mistake.
So does it means that none of you guys hav this Digital Compass problem?after each soft reset i have to repeat that 8 shape pattern movement to make it work again.
anyway i am returning my to get a replacement.
I don't have an HD2, but I think I've experienced this over-sensitivity on my iPod nano, which I presume has a capacitive scroll wheel.
Sometimes (although not usually) it becomes so sensitive that I don't have to actually touch the scroll wheel for the songs to scroll. It then becomes almost impossible to choose the song I actually want because when I move my finger to the select button the song changes before I can select it - very, very annoying and frustrating. I'm not sure why it's sometimes much worse than at other times. Maybe it's the temperature of my finger or something.
Anyway, it sounds like this is the same sort of thing that's happening on the HD2. It's a real pain on my iPod, and I would find it totally unacceptable on a device like the HD2.
Its just a case of getting used to the screen. Our fingers are too used to resistive screens that we don't actually lift our fingers enough and drag across the screen since unless we apply enough pressure on resistive screen it won't do anything. With capacitive we just need to re-train our fingers to lift off the screen another 1mm and it'll be fine.
Here's my suggestions:
1) Try typing slower to start with.
2) Or turn phone to landscape as the keys on the onscreen keyboard are slightly wider.
I can type quite quickly in landscape with between 1-3 errors per an SMS.
I'm loving this phone right now!

You're 100% right!
I also was very frustrated and irritated the first two days. But then I realized how responsive the screen is. Just a very very light touch already gives a reaction. And now I'm loving it more and more by the minute...

And I just say you're out of luck. inoperative volume button... sounds like a defective unit, not software.
Replace it and be happy again.

Mine was delivered with a faulty 'Volume UP' button. I've sent it back for replacement.

3.Screen is so sensitive that is almost impossible for me to write text messages or e mails.

Just try another keyboard. One that doesn't allow to change a character once you pressed a character on the keyboard. Fingertouch Pro and Resco Keyboard Pro for example are great keyboards for the sensitive screen of the HD2. I myself like the Resco keyboard. It responds and looks very similar to the iphone keyboard.
BTW Fingertouch pro and Resco Keyboard Pro both allows you to make use of gestures. Together with this feature text input is a breeze on the HD2
(Better yet is MessagEase, but unfortunately, under WinMob 6.5, it has some real problems).

Hey I am in wakefield too! Small world
I have to agree the screen is very sensitive. I am sure with a weeks usage I will be ok.
I have to say though I am so in love with the phone. The speed is perfect. No more waiting to load SMS\email screen etc like with my touch HD.
Hehe thats what happens with everyone who switch over from Resistive to Capacitive, at first they will hate it as they're too used to resistive.
But just within 2-3 days they realize just how much better Capative is. Resistive just sucks IMO. Typing is way quicker using a Capactive panel.

I had exactly the same experience switching to my G1 - I sent the first one back after a few hours as i was convinced the screen wasn't working. The next handset was was the same. A day or so of use later and I was sold and never looked back.
no..the screen is definitely too sensitive...this is not my first capacitive screen btw.
I've got my phone on charge on the desk next to me...and number of time it has open the calendar, or contacts...all by itself is amazing. A few moments ago (which has prompted me to write this post), it opened the calendar and the curser moved all over november....18, 19, 20, 24, etc etc...without me being anywhere near it!!
there has to be a way to turn the sensitivity down

Question Change a few settings

Hello all!
My Razer Phone 2 stopped charging. This is how my Razer Phone 1 also died, basically the charging port went bad, then worse, then died completely.
Anyway I got the Nothing instead, since price and specs fit me pretty fine.
However I want to change a few things. I might be blind in the settings menu, but I'm hoping you'll still help me!
I got a few points I'd like changed, and no amount of googling helped me here:
1. The phone turns on the screen when I pick it up. But there are often mistakes, and the screen just turns on by itself when I'm walking with it in my hand, or in my pocket. It has happened already a few times, after having for phone for 48 hours, that I have dismissed some notifications because of this. Can I stop this function all together?
2. I can also press the screen once and the screen will turn on. This is also a problem when the phone is in my pocket. On my Razer I had to double tap and it still turned on sometimes in my pocket. I ran the Razer phone with Nova Launcher, maybe I have to change to this launcher from the Nothing one to get this double tap feature?
3. I can turn off the screen by double tapping on the home screen. That is a feature I always use and appreciate. I never put the phone screen down so the lights on the backside won't get used. I always double tap to turn on the screen, check for notifications, and double tap to turn the screen off should there be no notifications. Nothing phone won't turn off the screen with a double tap unless I actually unlock it, so I can't do a quick check for notifications by double tapping and double tapping again. It won't matter if the phone is on a table, but I frequently check notifications and put the phone back to my pocket, and having to go for the screen button is not exactly for me. Do I need Nova Launcher here?
4. I NEVER use sounds on my phone, except for the alarms. When someone calls me while the screen is turned off, the screen turns off and I get vibration. If the screen is on I won't get any vibration from it, only a visual notification which is easy to overlook if I let it sit with the screen on but locked if I just checked notifications. Also I like the feedback in my hands in case I am doing something on the phone. I already missed some calls because of this. Can it be changed?
5. Is it possible to manipulate the glyph on the backside? I found a "secret" setting which makes them light up to the music playing, but that became pretty annoying just after 5 seconds. Are there some basic things you can do with the light? Like making a custom event and then specify how the light should react? Could be something simple like when a call is active the lights come on very dim? Maybe a 3rd party app someone did?
6. The Razer Phone 2 (and 1) has HUGE speakers in the top and bottom, so I have been living with pretty big bezels. The Nothing has the same size but the phone is almost 100% screen. If I need to go to the bottom and press a back button or something, I cannot reach anymore like on the Razer. Is there a way to add some virtual bezels on Android?
7. I really hate this "notch" or "camera bump". It is a bit of the same as number 6, but can I remove it completely, so the top of the screen where the camera is won't be used at all? The whole line, effectively adding more bezel here too.
I am probably picky, but I have used my phone in a specific way for my whole life, and I am not really good with changes. Also I think a phone should adapt to my needs, and I shouldn't adapt to it.
Thanks for reading and hopefully helping
To be honest, sounds like the Nothing Phone isn't the right device for you.
I like to know the answer to question 1 too.

1. There is an option to turn this feature off under Display->Lock Screen called Lift to show lock screen.
2. Don't know, but you should try using the Nova Launcher.
3. Don't know, but you should try using the Nova Launcher.
4. Very niche use case, you can try to search some root methods.
5. There is root app which can control the light you can try that.
6. and 7. There should be some root apps or magisk modules which allows to do that.
To 2: (I dont know if this works on NothingOS since im on Paranoid Android. But both are very near to stock, maybe it works for you or for others.) I disabled that tap to activate setting and am using fingerprint while screen is off. This can also act as a quick look for notifications, for that i tap where the fingerprint reader is really short so it fails to unlock. This way only the always on display shows up for 3-4 seconds.
Nova wont change anything lockscreen related.
To 5: If you have root, time and like playing around with commands and apps, you can try tasker. Since im on Paranoid Android and the glyphs arent really implemented yet, i made a task that fits my needs perfect.
To your other problems: i think too, the phone should adapt to the user. So i suggest you to wait, i guess there will come roms that are way more customizable.
And maybe a pixel would fit your needings better than this phone because there is a big custom rom scene around.
