Hi,
I was active in the BA forum about a year ago, and have some free time now so would like to get my BA working again
When I was here last helmi had just released his first 6.0 rom. Could anyone advise me about how the ROMs have improved since then, i.e. improvements between 6.0 - 6.1 - 6.5, and recommend which version to install?
I'm mainly looking for stability and a clean and well organised interface. I tried a ROM just now out of curiosity and found it was completely messed up with coverflow picture viewers, oversized task managers etc. which did not look good.
Thanks for any help, or just general ROM discussion
hardingt0110
maybe i will recook latest 6.1
if you really look for stability do not try WM 6.5, about the speed the 6.5 roms are quite fast
i personally use 6.5 because i can handle the crashes here and there, but it is possible you never encounter a crach on 6.5
WM6.5 is still in beta stage thats why you may encounter bugs ...
try for yourself, i recomend if you use your device on daily basis and not just for toy use 6.1 until 6.5 becomes RTM
wm6.1 build 21032 or 21038 are waiting for ya
Cheers for the help
So which ROM would you guys reccomend for my requirements of fewest bugs / cleanest interface? I guess imatrix you were talking about xtreme's ROMS there, or sun_dreams?
@xplode: once wm6.5 is stable, will it have any improvements over 6.1? Would I be better with a 6.0 over 6.1 for that matter? That would be great if you could make a new version of 6.1
Thanks

I for once don't agree with you! LOL Well I use R3 Your Creation... on a daily basis and beat the cheet out of it, and have had very few crashes... So... C'mon mate, trust your work Its going great. Getting ready to flash R5.1 . I just need to sync phone first. I had to re-format my pc and haven't installed Outlook yet, so, till I can find my Office CD and can Sync my contact I won't be flashing. Oh... I hate moving... Still have 1/2 my stuff in boxes and can't remember what is where.
@ hardingt0110: I can suggest Swampy's WM6.1 : BA_M2D_CE_OS_5220275__Build_20275.1.3.3_V3 I used it for quite a while, still have it on one of my other BA's and to me, it was pretty featured and stable. Use it with his ExtROM.
If you read a little on the top 10 threads, you will find most answers to your questions about 6.0 vrs .1 and .5
Happy Flashing!
@ Explode: Like I said, I haven't flashed 6.5 R5.1 yet, but just from what you've wrote, I can already say... Thank You! You've really put your time into this last ROM. My Respects to you and all the other great cookers.
@ Swampy: You've been a little quiet my friend. Waiting to see what's New @ Swamps Cooking
@ markanthonypr: Edit your signature lazy boy, you don't have a "working Tornado" anymore LOL
@ Rafyvitto: Thanks for suggesting BA its all your fault LOL
I will always try latest ROM, though I know it could be buggy, but I feel we are the persons to give true feedback to developers to resolve build related issues and finally make them solid. Developers are working for us and we should help them by pointing out bugs in decent ways ( not discouraging ways) I have installed xplode's 6.5.1

I'm totally agreed with that!
I tried Swampy's M2D CE_OS_5.2.20931, its fast but the folders are not really organized. I'm currently using xplode's Build 19209; slower but stable and looks pretty official.
Cheers to ROM developers!

@xplode,
You know mark is right, right? You should have more trust in your work buddy!! Your roms are normally great with a few bugs here and there.
@ hardingt0110
If I were you, I would jump directly to WM6.5. markanthonypr is right on the money... I use 6.5 for daily use and I beat it like a rented mule without any issues. I have had to do a series or SR in the past week, but it is not because of the rom itself but rather because of the latest release of PointUI2, which for some reason is buggy as hell. I uninstalled it and everything is back to normal. Try it, you may like it...
@ mark
Moving is always a pain in the a$$. Don't feel bad though, I moved about 2 years ago and I still have half of my stuff packed in boxes.
Thanks for all the help guys, you've saved me hours of ROM trying and the associated risks in flashing
I think I will try xplode's R5.1, as the screenshots of the interface look pretty neat. How does the honeycomb interface work? It always looks slightly too big for the screen?
Has anyone got any reccomendations for interface enhancements for wm6.5? S2P http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=417511 looks a lot nicer than WMP along with all the other apps by A_C.
Thanks
EDIT: What are the fixed themes next to the ROM download? do I need these if I download the fixed rom?

The apps enhancements are really up to personal taste... Here's what I normally have
Main UI: Varies but currently using PointUI 2 Free v 2.018b (later releases are too buggy)
Music Player: S2P
Lock Program: either S2U2 or ThrottleLock
Browser: NetFront Browser Concept 3.5 and Iris Browser (both are light, pretty fast, and Iris can use true Flv video (youtube and such))
Contact Manager: Pocket CM
Keyboard: PCM keyboard
Mail Management: I use the stock Pocket Outlook. However, Flexmail isn't bad either (not free though)
Video Player: Either CorePlayer or TCPMP
Picture Viewer: S2P
Games: A bunch!!
GPS Program: IGo 6 (will change it to Google Navigate eventually, but this one works rather well).
Calendar: Thumbcal (not free)
Thanks i will look into those
By the way I figured out that the honeycomb scrolls
I still don't know what those fixed themes are :S can I still use my own background in wm6.5?
yes of course you can use customized backgrounds. if you pick a qvga jpg picture, open it with "pictures and videos" you can set it as today background and select transparency, that also makes it the start menu background and those abstract pictures, general dark background with colorful lightplay looks wonderful. i already tried a lot of custom backgrounds and can't even decide with which to go permanently. i wouldn't recommend .tsk today themes though, they didn't just change the title bar and menu bar, which i expected, they took away all the finger friendlyness and put back the ugly old menus and scrollbars.
Simple question.
I've read about the new features of the 3rd version of Touch Flo (on the upcoming HTC Touch Pro 2 and Diamond 2) and they are quite interesting.
I just wondered whether by any chance this new version could be installed on the HTC HD (once it's out of course)
Thx
there are already tons of custom roms with this new tf3d

well... i always do my home work before posting, that is why i did ask question...i could not find any cab, and believe me i spent hours looking throughout our gigantic forum...
if u know location where such cab is hiding from my eyes please share it with us.
There is no "cab" install and there never will be.
This isn't just an application you install on your phone - it's a complete system overhaul, with new TF3D, with all new and / or updated system applications: phone, calendar, contacts, call history, calculator, browser etc.
Let me illustrate however the difference between the stock ROM and the custom cooked ROM's available here on XDA. It's like going from Skoda to latest Ferrari.
That means you'll get a lot of great looking stuff, many cool applications already included, everything will be as new as possible, you'll be running at MUCH faster speed, but you also have to accept that you'll "burn more gas" - battery life may take a small impact.
Is it worth it? Well, it's like you bought a new device, so - yes.

If you flash a ROM that already includes the new manila it will probably be alot smoother because the ROM will be optimized and tweaked for it! If you install it over the old Manila it probably won't give you the best experience... Also, the newer ROMs not only include the new Manila, but also things like finger-friendly menus!
really is that true???

I'm pretty new to all this as well and had a lot of difficulty figuring it out! What I think happens is this: The ROM is a bit like the BIOS so you can't modify it within WM6.1. Also, the original ROMs are protected so you can't replace them with an unofficial version (they are signed).
To get around this, you can use something like Hard SPL (which overwrites the existing ROM) or USPL (which works around it).
I finally went with USPL2.5 and Dutty's extreme ROM v2.6.
Incidentally, I'm not really noticing much of a speed improvement... Especially with the music player which now takes a second to load up... Am I meant to?
Done a little bit of searching but can't seem to find an answer to this question.
I've already flashed to HSPL and basically I'm now looking for a stable leaked or cooked ROM that works well with SPB Mobile Shell 3.5 on my HTC HD2. A WM 6.5.3 or 6.5.5 version is preferred so that its possible to get the taskbar, start menu, etc altered to the way I'd like it, as that doesn't appear to be possible with the bog standard 6.5 release I think?
Does anyone have any suggestions or use a leaked/cooked ROM with SPB 3.5 with no major issues?
Many thanks.
All versions of spb have been power sapping in my experience so I wouldn't recommend any.
Anyone?
I've seen some videos on YouTube etc where people are using 6.5.3 on SPB 3.5 but they don't mention the actual rom.
Some info would be helpful as I don't want to have to test numerous roms or potentially harm my phone.
you will have to test it yourself by the looks, i would have thought the cooked rom wouldnt an the issue
I've tested SPB Mobile Shell 3.5 with most of my earlier custom ROMs and never had any problems. To be honest though I've fallen out of love with it: some aspects such as the contacts list are really ugly compared with Sense, and there is a lot of superfluous iconage that you can't hide or remove...it seems very cluttered and clunky since I've gotten used to Sense. I did notice a performance hit when using SPB as opposed to Sense too.
Out of interest, what is it that you prefer about SPB? I found that the only reason I was persevering in the end was because I had paid for the software!

The level of customization possible with SPB Shell 3.5 (together with Mskip ultimate) puts this interface light years ahead of SENSE in terms of functionality.
I understand that there are customisation options that Sense doesn't have but what exactly do they give you in terms of day-to-day usablilty?
I'm not criticizing your preference, I'm just interested as I find the simplicity of Sense to be deceptive as in terms of raw USABILITY it offers just as quick access to core functions as SPB but also FEELS nice. Many of the functions of SPB seem a little too showy and slightly pointless - like the spinning cylinder thing - and there is no way to remove the icons that lead to them. Maybe I should try SPB again but...Hmm well it just seems a little out of date, and I'm not keen on those Androidy cartoon icons that Mskip offers
Looking forward to V5 coming out though, I'm sure it'll be worth the wait.

True, but the idiotic cylinder is the only idiotic feature you can't disable in SPB.

For me, Mskip is nothing about cartoonish icons, rather it gives me the ability to get rid of the lower bottom bar which originally links to things I don't need. Also, it gives me to use invisible icons, which I use on top of widgets to gain extra functionality.

In terms of day to day usability, well, let's take the main screen. In SENSE, a huge part of it is taken by a useless clock, you also can't watch more than 1 appointment (and even with the recent extension to watch more, you still need to slide your finder to see more than 1), you also can't see your tasks at all. In my main screen I have a preview of several appointments and tasks with very functional widgets. I've customized it using an invisible icon so that clicking on the appointments widget takes me directly to Thumbcall's "make new appointment" link, and the same for tasks. I also get mail/sms/missed phone call/voicemail notification on the main screen using widgets.
After some tweaking, SPB Shell 3.5 feels like a glove on your hand, yet with the SENSE UI I never get this feeling, it's more cumbersome and things aren't exactly where I want them to be. Also, I hate the stupid swipe in order to switch between tabs, it's slow and inaccurate.
Looking forward to V5 coming out though, I'm sure it'll be worth the wait.

Please don't, V5 offers nothing above V3.5, apart from some nice 3D effects. It really should have gotten a V3.6 mark (But "5" is simply stupid).
The reason they skipped ahead to 5 is something to do with the number "4" being unlucky in eastern countries, or so I've read.
I got pulled in and paid for 3.5 after seeing seeing some HTC HD2 devices on youtube with different themes using its shell. But I am eagerly awaiting SPB MS 5 myself as I am a sucker for eyecandy with the ability to have as much custimization as possible a big plus in my eyes. It's a matter of taste.
All this aside I've been trying numerous 6.5.x roms and I have yet to find one that does not have some glitch somewhere or work seamlessly with SPB 3.5.
So again, if anyone out there is using a cooked rom that is 6.5.3 onwards with SPB 3.5 with little trouble, I'd be greatful to know which one.
i have used spb 3.5 withe the miri xtra light roms. currently on 5.1 but will be flashing 5.2 tonight. only one from the range i have had issues wih is 5.1. hope that
I'm using Leo Lite V2.5 ROM with SPB Shell 3.5 and have no problems...
What problems are you talking about ?
Spb 3.5 problems resolved
HI , I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM ON MY HTC HD2 A FEW DAYS AGO ND I RESOLVE WITH THIS PROGRAM (PocketShield_Setup) IS A LOCK AND UNLOCK APP. AND U CAN CHOSE MANY FUCTION ON HOW TO LOCK OR UNLOCK UR DIVICE AND ONE OF THOSE FUNCTIONS GIVES U THE OPORTUNITY TO EVERY TIME THAT U UNLOCK YOUR HD2 WILL TAKE U BACK TO THE ORIGINAL HTC SENSE SCREEN WITH ALL THE SETTINGS WORKING AND BACK TO UR MB 3.5 IF UR WANT WITHOUT A PROBLEM.

So, still awaiting the day when I can grab my Imagio. SOON! Anyway, question for all you users out there. Just opinions, as I have not worked with either one really (I played with SPB on my iPaq, but memory sucked on the iPaq, so no good comparison).
Which do you find better in terms of usability, finger friendlyness, and overall customization? TF3D or SPB Mobil Shell?

I have to say SPB all the way. It seems faster to me and certainly more customizable. My biggest complaint about SPB is that the weather doesnt get my locale from GPS.
Thanks Mike, but just lounging around a few posts, actually ran into a poll regarding this question, so feel like a duffas for not finding it earlier in my previous search for just this subject. Kinda a landslide for the touchflo, so will see how I like it, and if not, will try SPB, or may even run Androkkid to see if it will work with 6.5.
So, I am trying the demo of the SPB Mobile Shell. I noticed that the carousel doesnt 'float' when I tilt my Imagio, is that becouse its just a trial version, or is there something else going on?

I think I am wrong on that. Mine moves on touch but not on tilt.
I tried to activate the 3d acceleration, thinking that might be it, that froze up my system, had to do a soft reset. I think it has potential, but it seems more to be eye candy to me. I think I will stick with the stock TF3D, that seems to actually work better for me.
Edit - Actually, after soft reset, it works, sorta. I thought it would rotate based on the angle of the phone (g-sensor), but it only 'floats' with my finger. Still eye candy, wish it would also rotate to landscape.
TF3D for me

After using both, I really like the stock TF3D because I find that SPB is just too cluttered with eye candy. TF3D is more refined and it is at least as functional as SPB, perhaps even more so. It's definitely more streamlined and better organized, imho..
Yea, just had to do a second soft reset, this was after trying to remove it! So even though it really looks cool, I need something a bit more stable, functional, and effective.
I use both, i like the SPB shell most of the time and when I want to experience the TF3D i just go to the today tab in the settings and under the Items tab either tick the Launch TouchFlo 3D line which give user option to activate TF3D from the today screen or just tick the TouchFlo 3D line to activate when i hit the ok button on top and then go to the Today screen and there it is in all its simplisity. when i want the spb shell back i either reverse the process or tap on the start tab in the upper left coner one time then hit the back button.
I think you should try the maxsense ui rom that energy roms has cooked up. but you have to understand custom roms and how to flash. Id do a google search of maxsense and watch some reviews. it a cross between mobile shell and TF3D.

Alot has changed since I started this, I have my Imagio now, and have allready thrown on one of NRG Sense ROMs with the addition of CHT 1.8.5.1 as well. I have switched between Sense, ThrottleLauncher, SPB, Androkkid, PointUI, and Infinity.
Each one has its strengths, as well as weaknesses. I find Sense to be the most stable, but limited in customization compared to the others. It does very well in putting what I really need right there at the home screen. And the ability to have 4 home screens is nice. Limited to what 'widgets' and where they get placed is unfortunate, but I think that the effectiveness of CHT and Sense outweighs those issues.
TL has some great strengths in regard to the plethora of themes out there, the customization, and the ease doing that type of work. Disadvanges to me is that its not very stable, and gets a little quirky sometimes. But again, all the things I can do with it make up for the occasional soft reset.
SPB to me is really just a toy to show off. I have tried it three times now, and just can't seem to get something that I really like. I have a hard time navigating between everything, and again, its limited in 'widgets' as well, and no, I haven't tried all the different themes. But there always seems to be something that causes me to soft reset at least once a week.
Androkkid is fun as well, but the graphics aren't the best. It really is super easy to use and super easy to theme and customize, but there isn't alot of stuff going on with it. It was great for my old iPaq, but not as good for my Imagio.
PointUI is just way too freaking hard to figure out. I have tried multiple themes, multiple installs, and it never works right. Weather doesn't work, time can't change, I could continue to list, but don't have the time.
Infinity is probably the one that I would consider the most stable aftermarket UI out there, unfortunatly, its a dead UI, as the developer hasn't done anything in forever. Its super smooth, easy to customize, and I especially love the bubble's SMS capabilites! Its perhaps the most stable out of all the UI's I have tried, without one glitch that I can remember. I just wish there was more interest in it.
So I will continue to help the folks over at TL work on their themes through testing, and continue to use Sense whenever I am just working normal.
thanks for the input though! Its best to say that this thread is actually closed.
Alright, so I have no experience making a ROM, but I figure I might as well learn. I personally am interested in a ROM for the HD2 that just uses Titanium - none of that messy Sense nonsense - and to the best of my knowledge the current ROM chefs aren't too interested in that.
However, considering I can always just turn off Sense, it seems like a lot of work for just me. Is anyone else out there interested in such a thing? I presume you'd want it based on 6.5.x, not the standard 6.5?
If there's enough interest, I'll get started tonight.
Also, if you are interested, please post what other add-ons you'd want pre-installed. I'd like to keep it fairly basic, and allow users to add their own customizations later, but I figure maybe at least 4-column start menu and slider at the bottom.
Would be a good idea to have one. I'd love to have compatible themes as well for it. It's really tough searching for them as nobody is really into that anymore. Titanium would fly on our phones as HTC Sense for WinMo is pretty slow compared to it's Android counterpart. I ran HTC Sense on my Nexus One and it was crazy fast and the Nexus One has less RAM and ROM space than the HD2
I like to use the phone without Sense, but recently with the Elegancia ROM from steve0007 I have been using it with Sense enabled. When I disable Sense, there is a weird issue on the HD2, and I think I experienced it with other ROMs too, where the default menus don't disappear from the screen once I have tapped what I need. They just stay, blocking the screen, and the only solution is a soft reset. It'd be nice to have the ability to enable and disable Sense at will without an issue like this. A ROM without Sense at all might be a solution but I prefer having both options.
Miri has a couple options out, Titanium only or without both. But you have to go over to that 'other site' to get them.

Just checked it out. Looks like its based on 6.5. Nothing wrong with that per se, but without Sense you lose the HTC apps like contacts, calendar, etc and 6.5.x is a nice upgrade over 6.5 in that area.

I'm sorry, can you explain this a little more? I've used stock, Energy, and Kumar's ROMs all with Titanium and I don't think I've seen that one.
I'm using a really basic rom right now with HTC's stuff disabled. I prefer the WinMo 6.5 style today screen, SMS app, and speed. I've tried a bunch of roms and sense just bogs the phone down to the point that they keyboard becomes slow and unresponsive and that drives me bonkers!
FYI - I've been playing around with kitchens, and have what appears to be a stable version of a fast, basic, Titanium-only ROM running on my phone.
I'll play around with it some more to sort out bugs and clean up my kitchen a bit more. Look for a thread with the ROM download in the coming days!
I'm relatively new, and will do a search here shortly, but Titanium? My biggest gripe with this phone is the messaging app. It always lags heavily every time I get a new text, as well as other weird time stamp issues. I would be interested in a ROM w/o the HTC messaging app, and if Titanium is it, them I'm game!
Like I said, I will be searching RIGHT after this about what all this is, and if there's a solution to what I'm looking for now.

I would be interested in a ROM w/o the HTC messaging app, and if Titanium is it, them I'm game!
Like I said, I will be searching RIGHT after this about what all this is, and if there's a solution to what I'm looking for now.

Titanium is the default Windows Mobile 6.5 interface. If you want to see what it looks like - go to the settings tab, hit menu->all settings->today, go to the Items tab, and switch to Windows Default.
And you're in luck - I am using the standard Windows Mobile messaging app as well.
I got a ROM building as I type this, I'll let you guys know how it goes

I'm sorry, can you explain this a little more? I've used stock, Energy, and Kumar's ROMs all with Titanium and I don't think I've seen that one.

Here is a link to the ROM: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=654218
It is for the T-Mobile HD2. It is probably the best looking and most stable I have used on any Windows Mobile phone...and I used MANY on my Touch Pro2.

How did you get the standard winmo messaging app? Even after I disabled the sense UI it still used the sense messaging...

Sense UI and HTC messaging client are different but interdependent.
The HTCmessaging client may still function without sense UI.
If you want windows messaging, try here or need a cooked ROM like my Lite version ROM.
How is this coming along?
Anyone have any links to some Titanium ROMs?
i know nrg always puts out a titanium rom
NRG does have a Titanium Rom, however I have noticed a lot of programs are pre-packaged into the Rom that I would never use.
An Elegancia Titanium Rom would be the best of both worlds in my opinion. No fluff and allows for your own additions. Or a NRG Rom without the extras. Just my .02 in what I would like to see.

I would recommend either Energy or Kumar's Titanium ROM, depending on what you're looking for.
I had something that was ok, not great, when the more established ROM chefs started putting out Titanium ROMs, so I figured I'd just leave it up to them.
Do you have a link for Kumars Titanium Rom? I see the Lite version but is that the same as Titanium or is there a separate thread which I am not seeing?
I'm going to download the Energy Rom but have a feeling it will still have too much added for my liking.
