Who wants a Titanium (no Sense) ROM? - HD2 General

Alright, so I have no experience making a ROM, but I figure I might as well learn. I personally am interested in a ROM for the HD2 that just uses Titanium - none of that messy Sense nonsense - and to the best of my knowledge the current ROM chefs aren't too interested in that.
However, considering I can always just turn off Sense, it seems like a lot of work for just me. Is anyone else out there interested in such a thing? I presume you'd want it based on 6.5.x, not the standard 6.5?
If there's enough interest, I'll get started tonight.

Also, if you are interested, please post what other add-ons you'd want pre-installed. I'd like to keep it fairly basic, and allow users to add their own customizations later, but I figure maybe at least 4-column start menu and slider at the bottom.

Would be a good idea to have one. I'd love to have compatible themes as well for it. It's really tough searching for them as nobody is really into that anymore. Titanium would fly on our phones as HTC Sense for WinMo is pretty slow compared to it's Android counterpart. I ran HTC Sense on my Nexus One and it was crazy fast and the Nexus One has less RAM and ROM space than the HD2

I like to use the phone without Sense, but recently with the Elegancia ROM from steve0007 I have been using it with Sense enabled. When I disable Sense, there is a weird issue on the HD2, and I think I experienced it with other ROMs too, where the default menus don't disappear from the screen once I have tapped what I need. They just stay, blocking the screen, and the only solution is a soft reset. It'd be nice to have the ability to enable and disable Sense at will without an issue like this. A ROM without Sense at all might be a solution but I prefer having both options.

Miri has a couple options out, Titanium only or without both. But you have to go over to that 'other site' to get them.

Just checked it out. Looks like its based on 6.5. Nothing wrong with that per se, but without Sense you lose the HTC apps like contacts, calendar, etc and 6.5.x is a nice upgrade over 6.5 in that area.

I'm sorry, can you explain this a little more? I've used stock, Energy, and Kumar's ROMs all with Titanium and I don't think I've seen that one.

I'm using a really basic rom right now with HTC's stuff disabled. I prefer the WinMo 6.5 style today screen, SMS app, and speed. I've tried a bunch of roms and sense just bogs the phone down to the point that they keyboard becomes slow and unresponsive and that drives me bonkers!

FYI - I've been playing around with kitchens, and have what appears to be a stable version of a fast, basic, Titanium-only ROM running on my phone.
I'll play around with it some more to sort out bugs and clean up my kitchen a bit more. Look for a thread with the ROM download in the coming days!

I'm relatively new, and will do a search here shortly, but Titanium? My biggest gripe with this phone is the messaging app. It always lags heavily every time I get a new text, as well as other weird time stamp issues. I would be interested in a ROM w/o the HTC messaging app, and if Titanium is it, them I'm game!
Like I said, I will be searching RIGHT after this about what all this is, and if there's a solution to what I'm looking for now.

Titanium is the default Windows Mobile 6.5 interface. If you want to see what it looks like - go to the settings tab, hit menu->all settings->today, go to the Items tab, and switch to Windows Default.
And you're in luck - I am using the standard Windows Mobile messaging app as well.

I got a ROM building as I type this, I'll let you guys know how it goes

Here is a link to the ROM: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=654218
It is for the T-Mobile HD2. It is probably the best looking and most stable I have used on any Windows Mobile phone...and I used MANY on my Touch Pro2.

Sense UI and HTC messaging client are different but interdependent.
The HTCmessaging client may still function without sense UI.
If you want windows messaging, try here or need a cooked ROM like my Lite version ROM.

How is this coming along?
Anyone have any links to some Titanium ROMs?

i know nrg always puts out a titanium rom

NRG does have a Titanium Rom, however I have noticed a lot of programs are pre-packaged into the Rom that I would never use.
An Elegancia Titanium Rom would be the best of both worlds in my opinion. No fluff and allows for your own additions. Or a NRG Rom without the extras. Just my .02 in what I would like to see.

I would recommend either Energy or Kumar's Titanium ROM, depending on what you're looking for.
I had something that was ok, not great, when the more established ROM chefs started putting out Titanium ROMs, so I figured I'd just leave it up to them.

Do you have a link for Kumars Titanium Rom? I see the Lite version but is that the same as Titanium or is there a separate thread which I am not seeing?
I'm going to download the Energy Rom but have a feeling it will still have too much added for my liking.

how can i have sense (weather) on my tp2 using only winmo 6.1

Hi,
my os is still winmo 6.1 and i don't really want to upgrade to 6.5 yet (because the next g rom isnt out yet and i dont want a different version). but i do like the htc sense UI with the weather in the middle of the time animated and the colourful task icons.
i want something like this:
http ://www . redmondpie.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/HD21.jpg
is it necessary to upgrade to 6.5 to have this? or can i have it and still have 6.1?
thanks
Jackos hybrid rom includes WM6.1 and Sense 2.1... He is also working on Sense 2.5 for WM6.1, I believe. Check it out, I tried and it's really stable. Only a couple minor bugs. But there's a ton of free RAM and it's really quick! Link below:

okay COOL! thanks
but will you tell me what kind of bugs are there? thanks again
AND another thing - will i be able to still keep my old touchflo3d interface (like i can choose either this jacko rom or the one i have now on the today settings), or will this completely change my interface? thanks
Jacko ROM rocks.. I have been using it intensively for a whole week...
and frankly... together with the Tarkim's Keyboard Configuration Apps... they save my TP2 from being dumped into the drawer... You must try it out if you want Sense on 6.1 (I don't want 6.5 too.. as I hate that stupid honeycomb interface which takes away my keyboard quick selection ...)
is there any way to get the sense with the weather without flashing a new rom?? if not is there any way to flash roms on a mac and or unlock my tp2 on a mac? what about backing up/syncing my tp2?

SPB Mobile Shell 3.5 and choosing the right ROM

Done a little bit of searching but can't seem to find an answer to this question.
I've already flashed to HSPL and basically I'm now looking for a stable leaked or cooked ROM that works well with SPB Mobile Shell 3.5 on my HTC HD2. A WM 6.5.3 or 6.5.5 version is preferred so that its possible to get the taskbar, start menu, etc altered to the way I'd like it, as that doesn't appear to be possible with the bog standard 6.5 release I think?
Does anyone have any suggestions or use a leaked/cooked ROM with SPB 3.5 with no major issues?
Many thanks.
All versions of spb have been power sapping in my experience so I wouldn't recommend any.
Anyone?
I've seen some videos on YouTube etc where people are using 6.5.3 on SPB 3.5 but they don't mention the actual rom.
Some info would be helpful as I don't want to have to test numerous roms or potentially harm my phone.
you will have to test it yourself by the looks, i would have thought the cooked rom wouldnt an the issue
I've tested SPB Mobile Shell 3.5 with most of my earlier custom ROMs and never had any problems. To be honest though I've fallen out of love with it: some aspects such as the contacts list are really ugly compared with Sense, and there is a lot of superfluous iconage that you can't hide or remove...it seems very cluttered and clunky since I've gotten used to Sense. I did notice a performance hit when using SPB as opposed to Sense too.
Out of interest, what is it that you prefer about SPB? I found that the only reason I was persevering in the end was because I had paid for the software!

The level of customization possible with SPB Shell 3.5 (together with Mskip ultimate) puts this interface light years ahead of SENSE in terms of functionality.
I understand that there are customisation options that Sense doesn't have but what exactly do they give you in terms of day-to-day usablilty?
I'm not criticizing your preference, I'm just interested as I find the simplicity of Sense to be deceptive as in terms of raw USABILITY it offers just as quick access to core functions as SPB but also FEELS nice. Many of the functions of SPB seem a little too showy and slightly pointless - like the spinning cylinder thing - and there is no way to remove the icons that lead to them. Maybe I should try SPB again but...Hmm well it just seems a little out of date, and I'm not keen on those Androidy cartoon icons that Mskip offers
Looking forward to V5 coming out though, I'm sure it'll be worth the wait.

True, but the idiotic cylinder is the only idiotic feature you can't disable in SPB.

For me, Mskip is nothing about cartoonish icons, rather it gives me the ability to get rid of the lower bottom bar which originally links to things I don't need. Also, it gives me to use invisible icons, which I use on top of widgets to gain extra functionality.

In terms of day to day usability, well, let's take the main screen. In SENSE, a huge part of it is taken by a useless clock, you also can't watch more than 1 appointment (and even with the recent extension to watch more, you still need to slide your finder to see more than 1), you also can't see your tasks at all. In my main screen I have a preview of several appointments and tasks with very functional widgets. I've customized it using an invisible icon so that clicking on the appointments widget takes me directly to Thumbcall's "make new appointment" link, and the same for tasks. I also get mail/sms/missed phone call/voicemail notification on the main screen using widgets.
After some tweaking, SPB Shell 3.5 feels like a glove on your hand, yet with the SENSE UI I never get this feeling, it's more cumbersome and things aren't exactly where I want them to be. Also, I hate the stupid swipe in order to switch between tabs, it's slow and inaccurate.
Looking forward to V5 coming out though, I'm sure it'll be worth the wait.

Please don't, V5 offers nothing above V3.5, apart from some nice 3D effects. It really should have gotten a V3.6 mark (But "5" is simply stupid).
The reason they skipped ahead to 5 is something to do with the number "4" being unlucky in eastern countries, or so I've read.
I got pulled in and paid for 3.5 after seeing seeing some HTC HD2 devices on youtube with different themes using its shell. But I am eagerly awaiting SPB MS 5 myself as I am a sucker for eyecandy with the ability to have as much custimization as possible a big plus in my eyes. It's a matter of taste.
All this aside I've been trying numerous 6.5.x roms and I have yet to find one that does not have some glitch somewhere or work seamlessly with SPB 3.5.
So again, if anyone out there is using a cooked rom that is 6.5.3 onwards with SPB 3.5 with little trouble, I'd be greatful to know which one.
i have used spb 3.5 withe the miri xtra light roms. currently on 5.1 but will be flashing 5.2 tonight. only one from the range i have had issues wih is 5.1. hope that
I'm using Leo Lite V2.5 ROM with SPB Shell 3.5 and have no problems...

TMO US Stock ROM is perfect

Hello, my name is R and I'm an addict, to flashing, that is.
I had the Rhodium until the 24th when the HD2 came out and I was second in line at the store and was the first one out of there with a brand new HD2. (I know, the other lady had issues... lol...)
Anyway, I installed Cookie's Home tab, System SEVEN for push email, Garmin Mobile XT, Quick Menu and Total Commander on the phone, and it has been running better than the Rhodium ever did, even when I installed the cooked ROMs in it, so much so that I'm afraid to flash a cooked ROM on my HD2 and spoil it...
The things that I miss from the cooked ROMs:
1- Excluding the music tab and the pictures tab from rotation (NRG's Rhodium ROMs with Manila 2.5 can do that, and if i install MaxManila I know that it does that too, but I only ever used MaxManila for the extra links on the home tab and Cookie's Home tab does that with less bloat)
2- NRG's theme with the raised windows buttons instead of the flat ones in the Stock ROM.
3- I just read one of the posts below and remembered how sweet threaded emails were on the cooked ROMs, but System SEVEN didn't play nice with any of the 6.5.5 ROMs, and even some of the regular 6.5 ROMs, so I always had to reflash because the ROMs would freeze after a few hours and I would get an "Application Error" message that didn't go away, even uninstalling SEVEN didn't work... Why do I need SEVEN? I have three hotmail accounts, one personal and two business, and POP3 just doesn't work well, at least not with hotmail (or live mail, however you want to call it) and I haven't found anything better than SEVEN for configuring multiple hotmail accounts for push on windows mobile. Kind of lame when you think about it, because hotmail belongs to M$ and WinMo only allows one windows live account, and blackberries allow several windows live accounts, all with push...
Things that never worked on the Cooked ROMs and work perfectly on the stock ROM:
1- Facebook Integration: On the cooked ROMs, facebook integration kind of worked, I could link my favorite contacts to their facebook profiles and get their facebook pictures on my contacts tab, however, whenever they called me I saw their Outlook picture instead of their facebook picture, and I had to manually add the Outlook picture every time or I would get the generic gray avatar picture instead. On the stock ROM, I always see the facebook picture everywhere
2- On all the cooked ROMs that I flashed to the Rhodium, regardless of the version of Manila, I had to go to task manager and terminate outlook all the time because if I went to the email tab and tapped on Inbox and I was on an account other than the one that was open in Outlook (say I opened my hotmail inbox, then went back to the home tab, then back to the email tab and selected the exchange account and tapped on Inbox) Outlook would hang and I would have to restart it all the time. On the Stock ROM it works flawlessly, Outlook never hangs.
3- For the life of me, I never could figure out how to close Total Commander on the 6.5.X ROMs
4- I use Garmin Mobile XT, and while it worked, whenever the main GUI was open, it left a gap on the top between the GUI and the status bar or however you want to call it.
The Stock ROM is so good and stable that I'm not even going to flash anything until the Stock ROM is available to reflash.
Anyone knows how to exclude the music and the pictures tab from rotation (BSB Tweaks Rotation doesn't play well with rotating manila on the stock ROM, however TX_Total_Landscape.cab from the Touch Xtreme ROMs works perfectly), or anyone knows how to modify the default theme and make the windows buttons raised as in the NRG's themes, I would appreciate it if they let me know. (Some will say search the forums, but I've been searching for 6 days now and haven't found anything)
My two cents.
Peace!
Three row Landscape keyboard
When I first got my Rhodium (OK, TMO US HTC Touch Pro2) I loved the landscape keyboard, it only had 3 rows of keys and was very unobtrusive and functional. Then I started flashing and I really really really (as my 5 year old would say) dislike the new landscape EZInput keyboard layout. I have searched and searched endlessly for the original three row keyboard, but I've had no luck, there is one, but it's only for VGA devices, and I did dump my Rhodium ROM, but I haven't found a way to make a cab out of the dumped modules for the original keyboard (or any other modules for that matter), there are a couple of tutorials here and there, and I have followed them, but maybe because I have windows 7 they don't work, or maybe I'm doing something wrong.
Case in point: does anyone know where to get the below keyboard and install it on the HD2?
View attachment 301757
When I first got my HD2, my fingers were all over the place and I couldn't click on anything accurately. I really missed my Rhodium but figured that I would adapt to the new capacitive screen and the HD2 didn't have the "Align Screen" available in its settings. I must say that I was still struggling with it until today that I found this and I was able to align my screen and now I can tap anywhere with great accuracy and my days of missing my Rhodium are gone...
Yet another one
And this is the last one...
I will update this thread with the CABs that I install and the ROMs that I flash, and even the CABs that I make to make my phone run smooth and fast...

People who plan to include a lot of data in their thread and lots of responses usually reserve a space or two on the thread. This is because some forum restrict the size of a post you can make, even editted. So for instance, each post can only be 500 characters and no more. This allows them to include more information (characters) at the beginning of the thread.

This is the one I also might try after a month or week of the stock rom, i'm waiting for us to be able to reflash the stock rom...i don't even have the HD2 US yet but it's coming...and i have tons of cabs ready for it...so I would love the auto-install feature of that rom...but yeah, that facebook picture thing would be big for me as well...and on the stock rom some games lag a tad, so i will be using the 3d driver patch cab. and see if it helps.
I just flashed back to stock myself....I've yet to find a custom ROM that was as bug-free as stock
I just wish they'd release an official 6.5.x update. I'll miss the taskbar on the bottom of the screen, threaded emails, nicer stock apps (I prefer Titanium to Sense)....
stock rom....

There was a link floating around here right after release. Not sure what happened to it.
You can find the stock rom here, under the Leo 2.10 folder, have flashed it myself after testing a few custom roms:
http://www.4shared.com/dir/22189940/b8552fa0/Shipped_Leo_ROMs.html
I find the stock rom really nice too. However I do wish I had a stock 6.5.X to go with though. I miss a lot of the little things in 6.5.X like threaded email, Start button on the bottom, Beautiful menus, and the general ugly is gone.
Yes, one wonders why HTC released the T-MO HD2 with the old version when they will soon be releasing the so called HD Mini with 6.5.3.
The Stock ROM is nice and suitable for your average Joe but for cell phone enthusiasts it is a memory hog and full of bloatware. That said, it would need to be stripped to be worthy of its own thread.

I have to agree with the bloatware part of your statement. However, every cooked ROM that I used had it's own bloatware. Now, I know this is preference, but for instance, I don't like Opera, I prefer plain old IE, however, Opera is installed in all Cooked ROMs and there is no way to uninstall it. There are several other things that I would take out of every ROM, including the Stock of course, but I just havent have time to learn how to cook myself yet. I will soon, though... matter of fact, I'm dumping my ROM right now and will see how I can manage to "clean it up" a little bit and see what happens...
I'm a cell phone enthusiast myself, or at least I consider my selft to be one. My first Phone was an MDA, then I had a Wing, then the Touch Pro2, and now the HD2, and I flashed and customized each and every one of them...

First you have to know what version of manila you're using. Are you using stock rom?
sounds like he doesnt have touchflo at all....
update rom, maybe then try...
It goes by different names... see if you have something called HTC Sense in your home items. Or Manilla
How are you trying to install the theme's? Are you talking about a theme for the menu bars (top and bottom) or are you talking about a theme for HTC Sense (Aka Touch flo 3d)
Each should basically install via a cab which is an install program. If its a standard windows mobile theme which will just change the background the bars then you just have to move the theme file which you can move over to a folder onto your phone (not SD card) and you should see it in your themes section in home settings.
If you want to switch appearance of HTC Sense/TouchFlo3d/Manilla... whatever you want to call it You can try this too... Theme Switcher] it looks interesting although Ive never tried it
Hope this helps

Apparently i do not have TouchFlow3d
I have Sense. Not sure why their is one or the other.... I was never asked which i wanted when buying the phone. Even the CUSTOMIZING HOME SCREEN tutorial on tmobile's site assumes you have TF3D.
The whole thing is just confusing.
And the reason i inquire is because i really hate the stock layout/display/theme of my phone but every single editor/mod/customizer i find is for the touchflo3d!!!!!! ESPECIALLY co0kies home screen editor. I really would have liked that. Why do sense users get the shaft?

ummm... you might wanna look into that alittle bit more. cookies home screen works with sense also, 2.1 or 2.5.
TF3D= pretty much the just wm6.1 and what i call a "test" for sense
2.1= pretty much wm6.5 and like TF3d but with graphic improvements and stuff.
2.5= ment for the HD2 but since were cool we ripped it, but pretty much same as 2.1 but just an updated version pretty much
if i may suggest a ROM for you it would be this... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=569507
just scroll down to the 2nd post and look for "- valkyrie.ftp v6.7.21904-TR2.5 28th MAY wm6.5 without extra tabbs" it has cookie cooked it it
that would more than likely fit you since its a basic version and has good things preloaded with it. but if you want more than just that then go for this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=562773
just look for the download button with sense 2.5 and that has the cookie mod already cooked in it as well
just make sure to hardSPL your rhodium before you do any of this. for any more info just look in the ROM development thread and look for things in there.
with that said im done for today and im going to sleep

Like I said.. Sense is touchflo3D for all intensive purposes... most of the editors you see WILL work with sense. Sense is the newer name for Touchflo3d.
Sense comes in different varients... 2.1 and 2.5... you likely have one of those. I can't say for sure but I thought that cookies home tab only worked with 2.5 which is a significant upgrade. If it does work with Sense 2.1 then odds are you are good either way.

It doesn't work with 2.1 I already tried a while ago and ended up having to hard reset my phone, losing everything, because it screwed it up.

New HD2 Widgets?

Good morning all,
I did a search on "widgets" and could not come up with what I was looking for so...
I was reading (and watching video) on "pocketnow.com." They showed that you could "long tap" an empty spot on the home page which would allow you to peruse, choose from, and download new icons/widgets for your HD2. They had some spiffy ones on there for mail and other.
Tried it and it did not work. Read into the comments section and they note that it is an andriod phone and may not work on a Tmo-WM-HD2.
Is there a way to get some nice new widgets for preinstalled programs (or other) without flashing the ROM or installing a new CAB?
I assumed there might be just like I can choose an icon on my Windows desktop.
Thanks in advance.
you could just install android or mobile shells.
yeah, like ddgarcia is saying, WM doesn't really have widgets, unless you use CHT/CHTE (which only has a very few available). Based on what you said, I would imagine that the video you were looking at was an android build with sense on it (so it looks rather similar to a WM build with sense).
Android and SPB Mobile Shell (a WM-based replacement for sense) are pretty much the only way to get widgets on to your home screen.
Mate, are you sure you were not looking at Co0kie's Home Tab 1.85?
I appreciate all the responses.
You are indeed correct, it was an android HD2.
I should have noted that.
I was hoping that perhaps so of the same functionality was possible with my TMO-HD2 (WM 6.5).
I have thought about installing Cookie's Tabs, but frankly I dig my stock HD2. I have been having some latency troubles lately, but I think there may be some "gun" in the system that my cleaner is not getting rid of (tmp files, etc.).
I need to clean her out and tune her up!
Thanks all.

Pretty sure he wasn't. He was mistaken when he said the video was showing widgets for the HD2 though.

CHT 1.8 is awesome dude. The quicklinks you get make your phone twice as cool. It's like having an Android WM hybrid. Obviously there are a lot more apps out there for Android but functionality wise CHT makes this phone better...
You do know that you can load Android on your phone with minimal effort, right?
Mate, here is a wicked Android build for you; everything is working fine. This provides a fantastic experience with a Stock HTC Desire Froyo build (HTC Sense etc...).

Read the thread, download the ROM, read the instructions (simple 1,2,3 steps) and enjoy.
Cheers
While I appreciate the kind and well-intended responses...
Me no want Android.
Me like Windows Mobile
