long and short of it, i'm trying to connect the HD to another device (Hermes) to share internet via bluetooth, and its not having it.
I've gotten my pc to connect, but i can't figure out how to get this up & running on the HD.
The steps i've taken:
With WMWifirouter
Setup the Cellular to Bluetooth Connection
Paired the HD to Hermes
result: no internet connection
(it briefly shows as being connected , then quickly goes back to waiting for connection)
but i've realized that internet explorer is trying to access connections settings
So i go to Connections, Add a new modem connection , select bluetooth as the modem, try to add a new device, it sees the Hermes, try to connect, it shows no services, and when you select save, it brings me right back to the add a new device page....no saved connection w/ the hermes...
Bear in mind i can still send files between the devices (Hermes & HD) showing they are paired. (and of note during this time, the bluetooth status in WMwifirouter goes to connect, and then after the file has finished being sent goes back to waiting for connection)
Trying to use ICS, is more of the same...as in exactly the same...add the device, no services, never saves.
I've tried installing the wm6 DUN found here on both devices, no go.
I am desperately hoping that someone has some words of wisdom to share with me.
What am i doing wrong, and has anyone successfully gotten this to work on an HD.
I was originally running Dutty's 2.5 when i first tried this, and at the time thought it might be an issue w/ the rom, so flashed back to the stock rom , but its made no difference.
Eagerly awaiting your help

I want to setup my P3600 (English ROM) as a 3.5G modem for my PC but not successful yet. The Telco service staff has no idea too and pass me a manual for dopod 838 pro. The mentioned programs are not there, nor in my dopod D810 CD.
I can:
- Activesync using USB
- Activesync using bluetooth
Question:
- Should I use the same HTC modem dialer on my PC for XDA?
- Should I use the Start->Program->Internet Sharing?. It allows me to choose bluetooth or USB to PC but both not working too after connect.
Anyone successfully connect their PC via P3600 using HSDPA, pls share the steps. Many thanks.
Eventually, I figure it out myself.
Forget all the HTC modem dialer or wireless modem program as in Xda.
1. Start->Program->Internet Sharing on WM5.0
2. Select the connection type: USB or BT
3. Select "Connect"
4. Then connect the USB and done.
For BT, it would have instruction for you to start PAN now. done.
Woo, it's much easier than the HTC dialer. But now my problem is VPN problem with my telco.
Thanks very much for reporting this info back, it will come in useful when I get my trinity!

Sadly, because Internet Sharing is actually a NAT server running on your phone, it could prevent you from using 'classic' VPN. You can find more details by googling for 'VPN over NAT'.
for VPN purposes you can always use old good wireless modem mode. it works well.
I don't think it is related to NAT. As long as the VPN ports are opened, it should work. I am using a Wireless router at home and no trouble at all for using VPN under NAT.
Checked with telco. They can enable it for me with extra charge/month. and also the traffic would be charged as expensive GPRS plan. What kind of service!!!
Think twice before subscribing. I used "WonToFee / 1-1-" . The sales that say it can work for VPN may not even know what a TCP port is.
Anyone has use VPN over HSDPA with another telco? e.g. SMOOTH TONE
Hello,
This thread is a bit old, however I think it is related to my problem: I am trying to use Internet Sharing on my P3600 (ROM 1.23.405.2 / Radio ROM 1.38.00.11). Using BT, it works just fine. However, when connected on USB it works fine only for the first time. When I tap "disconnect", the HSDPA connection is stopped, but the status keeps displaying "Connected". There is now way to use Internet Sharing again before a soft reset (Windows XP wouldn't even recognize the P3600 again). Is this a known issue? I have googled a bit, but I haven't found any similar problems.
Thanks!

Hi shefful,
I have had the same problem. I have come across a possible solution while browsing forums. When you need to disconnect press and hold down the red end call button for a few seconds and this disconnects the modem. I haven't tried this yet but it's worth a shot.

Adam

Hi adamwolfe,
Thanks for your help, unfortunatelly this is not the solution to my problem. The GPRS connection ends (according to the icon on top of the screen), but the status keeps displaying "Connected". The application stops responding and can't be stopped from Settings/Memory/Runnning Programs.
Hi shefful,
Yeah, I have the same problem too. Looks like the program freezes in the Connected status. Even tried terminating Internet Sharing with Start/Settings/.../Memory/Running Programs and relaunching Internet Sharing.
Sometimes I get a popup message saying the remote host has terminated the connection before the program hangs. I think this may be the cause of the problem. Which mobile operator are you on?
Rebooting is the only solution so far. Fortunately the Trinity reboots in 20 seconds - one of the fastest in the PPC market I think.
Hi ayhansan,
For other reasons I needed to hard reset my Trinity and the freezing problem has disappeared. I don't know what had caused this problem, I just hope it won't happen again. If I disconnect the USB cable, the status changes to "disconnected" and I can always reconnect.
same problem here
i am connecting to laptop thru USB
after I disconnect UMTS phone syaing still connected
and want kill Internet Sharing
???
thanks

does this work with Mac as well?
I was testing out the 10.4.9 Update that Apple released yesterday on my Macbook and noticed that a "Join Network on..." option now appears in the Bluetooth dropdown menu. Having already confirmed that the MissingSync trick works with USB I decided to try BT. I had to delete the pairing of my 8252 running the unreleased Cingular ROM b/c of some other issues that I created when trying to set up COM ports -- not sure if others will have to do this to get the Mac to see the phone as a PAN-able device. As soon as I added the phone is added to the Pairing List there is a message that "Personal Area Networking" service is enabled.
So, I went into the Internet Sharing app on the 8525, set the Mode to Bluetooth PAN, hit "Connect", and then used the Mac BT menu selection for "Join Network on <<device name>>". A few seconds later I had a 192.168.0.x IP and I confirmed connectivity with a speakeasy speedtest of 396/312. FWIW, the connection was made via the MediaNet connection (called Cingular GPRS on my phone) and I will be testing with a connection type that uses isp.cingular.com as the connection server at some point tonight.
Although the speed is not the best, I am quite glad to see that I have another connection option available in case of emergency.
I can confirm this works! Speed was 300/275 via BT PAN, then I plugged the USB cable in and got speeds of 905/318 (Speakeasy speed test). I'm in Sacramento (HSDPA) via the MediaNet wap.cingular APN. Looks like the BT 2.0 craps out at 300kbps.
My steps (I had a few extra to add to yours)
-I unpaired the devices on both the phone AND the MacBook
-Paired the devices FROM THE MACBOOK (Laptop sees that PAN is available)
-Unpaired the laptop ON THE PHONE side
-Paired the devices FROM THE PHONE (Connect via Bluetooth in the ActiveSync program)
I had to do the last two steps because when I paired from the laptop, the phone did not pick up the ActiveSync service, and so Missing Sync wouldn't sync via BT. Pairing from the phone side through the ActiveSync program fixed that up, and the laptop didn't need to make any changes so the PAN was still there.
Maybe if you pair from the phone first, you can avoid the last two steps? I'm not going to risk breaking my working setup to test it though. ;-)
Syncs via BT, and does PAN via BT now! Good thing you had to re-pair the devices =)
What Macbook are you using this on?
I can't seem to find the option on mine. (Core1 Macbook)
I'm trying the combo update in case something got missed in the diff update.
I'm using a 1st gen MacBook and cannot get Bluetooth PAN to work. Maybe for some reason this is only supported on the new 2nd gen MacBooks?
--Andrew
I don't think there's a difference in the bluetooth between the CDuo and C2D. (The wifi chip is different, but I think the bluetooth chip should be the same)
I do have a C2D though. All I can suggest is to unpair the devices from each other and try starting the pairing from the laptop again :-\
For reference, I used the diff updater (not the combo).
I've now tried this from both a C2D iMac and a CD MacBook - same result: no Bluetooth PAN. Perhaps something is messed up on my 8525, although the services listed for the device in Bluetooth preferences on the Macs list "Personal Ad-hoc Network" as one of the services. I just can't get my Macs to connect.
As to the update method, I've tried installing the combo updater on the MacBook to see if that made any differences (after initially downloading the update through Software Update) and haven't seen any difference.

Alright, so I am a complete newb...
Ive gotten a WM6 firmware on the 8525 now, and the 10.4.9 update on my mac.
What is AKU 3.3? I found the directions for installing it, but it seems to talk about some distribution of WM5?
So... onto my stupid questions: What does AKU stand for, how is it differnet from the OS, and where do I find version 3.3 of whatever AKU is.
According to the thread on installing AKU, the LVWM WM6 flash that I am using has AKU 0.0.
Sorry for the newbieness
just installed the update and re-paired the devices- it works great, even with my old g4 12" alu powerbook. thanks for posting this!
Is there any program that can make the PocketPC as a Access point, so we don't need the USB cable or Bluetooth PAN. Just a plain Access point from 3G?

OK.. in an answer to my own question, AKU 3.3 seems to be some part of a WM5 ROM.
There are some images in the wiki that have AKU 3.3, and thusly work with in a PAN with my Macbook (yay!).
Is there anyone who got this working with any WM6 image?
I'm thinking you still need missing sync to accomplish this trick...because I'm not seeing the "Join network on..." option pop up and my C2D 15" MBP. Oh well...I sure was hoping that this would work...but I guess not.
Missing Sync not the answer
I have Missing Sync installed, and it doesn't allow me to use Bluetooth PAN. It may be a WM6 thing (I have WM6 installed), even though the Bluetooth PAN works fine from Boot Camp.
--Andrew
I have it working, but I am on WM5. cmascatello, are you also on WM5?

This is definitely not true. It is an Apple provided service. You have to enable internet sharing on the mobile before you try to pair it to the Mac, otherwise the Mac won't see the service.

8525, WM5 Cingular pre-release ROM. My Macbook is a 2.0GHZ Black Core Duo with 2GB RAM and the Mac Pro 802.11n card installed (not that it matters). Also, FWIW, I do not have Internet Sharing enabled on the Mac -- you do have to connect from the phone Internet Sharing app. However, PAN option in the BT menu drop-down is always present now on my machine.
I am using a Dopod CHT9000 with the HTC WWE test ROM. MacBook Pro 17" C2D. The "Join network on <devicename>" option is also always in the BT menu on my Mac.
I just tested it out again, and the option to "Join network on <devicename>" in the Mac's bluetooth menu was grayed out. A reboot of OS X solved that and I was able to use bluetooth PAN again. If you can't get it to work, you may want to try rebooting.
Things to remember
-Re-pair devices to ensure that OS X 10.4.9 saw that PAN was available
-Be sure to use the "Internet Sharing" app (Start Menu->Programs) on the phone set to Bluetooth PAN
-Reboot OS X (Maybe soft reset the phone?)
I do not have Missing Sync and it is working.
The key is the ROM. I tried about 10 different ones before I found one that works. The latest Cingular test ROM from the wiki works...
Download link from the wiki...
Here is my data from Bluetooth->Prefrences
Device Name: PhonePOD
Device Address: xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx
Device Type: Computer
Device Services: Service Discovery, A2DP, Voice Gateway, Voice Gateway, Network Access Point, Audio Video Remote Control Profile
"Network access point" is what you need. "Adhoc Personal Networking" is not good enough it seems.
Maybe that's it...I'm using the WM6 Black Edition V1.1 and I'm lovin it...except for the stress of trying to get this thing working! Maybe it's just not compatible Maybe the new 1.2 jasjamming says is coming tomorrow will help out!
I definitely do NOT have it on my Macbook. I DID reboot it.
The weird thing is that the Mac will show you (in the overview of BT devices) the services a device offers, and it DOES list PAN as an service offered by the Tytn. However, when I then click on "Configure device" the ONLY service that it actually offers (box to check) is "use this device as a headset".
I am stumped.

Open System Preferences > Network and see if it offers you a new network port. Be sure to enable sharing on the device too.
I do have Problems with my wireless Lan connection these days,
I won an accesspoint last week and it's working perfect for my notebook and even for my desktop pc via wlan. everytime i connect with my wizard the conncetion aborts as soon as i start to "use" it.
Normally i use Gprs for updating weather RSS Feeds etc, so i didn't really test Wlan function at all since now.
Yesterday i went to some other Hot-Spots but the same fault occours at every spot.
so i am able to establish the connection but i get disconnected as soon as i start an application that uses this connection(opera mini, weather panel etc).
I was not able to test another rom because i don't want set up the whole device again.
so there's another little question beside. Is there an easy way to grab the whole rom from my wizard, so i simply test another rom? radio rom is not important.
any suggestions welcome,
thanks
Florian
Let me guess: You're using the AT&T rom, right?
Here's a fix (if you can call it a fix)
Click Me! I'm an AT&T FAQ page!
On this note, does anyone know if there is a version of the Proxy Manager for the wizard (WM5), and if there is where I can get a hold of it?
thank you for the reply but i am using wm6 with mfrazzzs rom,
the problem is that i am able to establish the connection for a short period of time. (enough to update weather) but the W-Lan connection aborts and i have to reconnect.
Fresh flash of WM 6.5 over radio 3.42.50 on a Titan. Under Network Management, I've selected that "Programs that automatically connect to the internet should connect using:" My Work Network, since I don't have a data plan. I go to Wifi settings, select Add New, put in the ssid, click through the security settings (temporarily disabled for this test purpose). My network shows up as "Unavailable". (I'm standing right next to the router). I click "Connect", it says "Connecting" for a couple of seconds and then goes back to "Unavailable".
What should I check first? I'm at my wits end.
You shouldn't have to "add new", your ssid should be automatically discovered and displayed in the list of wifi networks.
Did you connect to a wifi with your phone before, or is it a first attempt ?
Yes, I'd been connecting just fine until a few weeks ago. In fact, the refusal to connect was what prompted me to flash the thing -- figured that starting over might help.
So, your wifi connection was working well, but suddenly, for some obscure reason, it stopped working. Therefore, you decided to reflash your phone, but it didn't help, still not working.
Is that correct ?
I know I sound like a complete doofus, but yes, that's basically it. The weirdest thing is that every once in a while it'll find a wireless network and connect. But the connection never lasts for more than a few minutes, and then when it's gone the network is "Unavailable". And to anticipate your next question: There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for when it works. At this point I'm thinking I'll pick up a used Titan or Vogue on eBay and junk this thing.
Did you try a different rom ? Could be a faulty rom.
I've tried several different roms, yes.
this happens in some roms...
go2 wireless lan settings and then go2 power mode.change it to best perfomance frm best battery
Hi all, I'm new here, and I haven't found anyone with my same problem (even though one had it but resolved unistalling everything he had installed more than the ROM...of course i have already tried and even formatted my phone & reinstalled the ROM, but nothing changes)
When I try to data connect 2 messages appear to me..the 1st one says:
"Not able to connect
The answer's modem is disconnected. To verify & eventually modify the connection settings, touch "Impostation"" (I'm translating directly from Italian )
if I press ignore, the 2nd message is right back the 1st:
"Attention
A problem has been verified in the connection of the GPRS service using the registered domestic net"
Any clues? I'm running the latest official italian htc windows 6.5.5 ROM, and I updated to the last RADIO ROM
Thanks
p.s.: the little "icon" near the signal strenght is not white as it always was, but it seems "dotted", like if it is trasparent, even if it does calls & such, it can't connect to internet...
EDIT: I can't access to my home's wifi neither! I can connect to it but it doesn't go to internet (of course it works on every other computer :S)
