Thanks, I will try it.

Wow, this is very cool!!
I got this to work on my Touch Pro. To run it click on the simpleos.exe once you unzip it. It took a few times to get it running with a few crashes, but now it boots everytime np. Once it boots, click only in the password box and it should boot right up. It crashes if you click anywhere else. Actually this software is very very cool. Very stable once you get it to boot. Not very finger friendly though. Almost seems like development has stopped, which is too bad.
Also notice there are multiple desktops with widgets ect. You can access from the shortcuts in the upper right corner. Unfortunately on the 3rd desktop it crashed.

Open Source Code?
It WAS open source? I can't seem to download the source no more. Anyone willing to Hard Google and find the source? It's just too cool to not be in development. :\

Is this just an overlay for Windows Mobile? or does it actually reboot into a Linux shell?
Looking at the screen shots, it seems it is just an overlay.

It's skin

It's just an overlay everyone. I tried this last year on my touch and it works great! I'll see if I can if the sources somewhere and post at my site later.

I emailed the developer and got this reply....
"The program is no longer in active development. Feel free to download full source code in C#.NET. I am glad it sparked your interest, I hope you can contribute and make SimpleOS better. This is the reason it became Open Source!
Go head spread the word at xdadevelopers.com"
I will try and get them to provide a working link to the source code.

Source Code link has been fixed. The file is too large to attach. If you can't download let me know and I will split it into 2 smaller files. Enjoy!!

Direct link is here

I think it looks great to be completely honest. Maybe if someone were to develop on it, it might be a more feasable option than using the standard windows 6.0/.1 interface until 6.5 becomes a bit more stable.

Are there any developers out there that would be interested in continuing this project? I think its has great potential.

yes it is way better than copying iphone interface and also trying various interfaces to get better user friendly apps .

it also boots there is a option for it to boot

looks neat - the question is how to enable/disable it without it interfering with the normal features of the phone...

It's using the touch panel though- the capacitive part of the screen...not the main screen itself.
Ok, I bought the app, but the installer doesn't work on Vista, can anyone please provide me with a .cab for this? Thanks!
its in program files or the directory you saved it in. so im installing right now, well tell you what I think of it very soon!
might hsve been just the way my settings were but when I used this it did not seem one bit functional, I advise you to try the trial first. I uninstalled it slmost immediately. Just ststing mu experiences yours may be different
Wow, how secret is this. Need to register at Handango to download a trial that expires after 2 minutes, YES in words: TWO MINUTES.
And it comes as .msi file that requires .NET 3.5
Hell that's a challenge to try this thing out.
Hopefully it will not be considered as warez if I attach the cab here.

Yes. It will be considered as Warez to attach here since Handango needs registration to download this file which is mandatory as per their policy. Removing the attachment from here and please refrain from re-attachment else its bansville
Its like XDA needing registration to post something in here
Hey
I just tested the app.
I think the scrolling is not that best, or I m even doing wrong.
But I like the feature to assign Applications to the Buttons.
So You have the 4 buttons ( home, back, call, end ), and
you can assign 4 Apps to its touchpanel.
So we can map a Taskmanager to a Button.
Maybe someone can test the scrolling, and tell his results
greets doena
I attached the trial .cab file for everyone (without windows, .NET, etc) to try...
For me the program works good. The scrolling feature will help a lot of us, who can't easily find the directional buttons...
I HAVE POSTED A WARNING JUST 2 POSTS ABOVE YOURS. IF ANYONE CANT UNDERSTAND WHAT IT MEANS PM ME AND I'LL EXPLAIN. DO NOT POST THE CAB FILES HERE, HANDANGO DOESNT NEED XDA TO ACT LIKE MIRRORS. NEXT ATTACHMENT HERE WILL SEND THIS THREAD TO CLOSURE AND NON OBEYING MEMBER TO BANSVILLE

Yes, the scrolling through G-Sensor is not the best experience in my opinion too. I tested this in TotalCommander and contacts list. It's too slow for me.
But the swipe scroll works quite fine. It's like a whole page down every swipe.

Understood. Thanks and sorry!
It works fine for me, but it doesn't work for games (I tested it with Gstunt).... Maybe future releases will solve the problem...
I tried it for the 2 minutes it was worth. The scrolling is really just one movement up or down at a time...not really kinetic scrolling. It was a little tricky to get it on and off also (waiting to feel the vibration of it comin to life). I may buy it though...for the price I'll play with it...it does keep your figners off of the screen.
I played with the demo this morning instead of doing work.
Not bad with the scrolling, although it does not recognize 100% of the finger swipes. I couldn't get tap and tilt to work at all. And the slide over the center key was glitchy.
What I really would prefer is an app that will scroll up and down just by me tapping, but not clicking, the screen. It seems Gscroll could add that feature pretty easily.
The demo cab is available at the programmer's website, so it is neither "warez" nor is there any need to post it here. The website is www.mobilesrc.com.
Similar issues for me...
For the money, it's a reasonable piece of software, but useablility... it's not that good in my opinion. As mentioned above, it's far too slow. One 'swipe' moves one item in the list. It needs to be kinetic like a finger swipe on the screen. And it's not that responsive to touch. Sometimes it'll respond OK, other times it ignores my touch on the pad.
Great idea... needs a little more work
^is this guy for real, or what?

[DEV] [New Preview Image added]Manila Style Gaming - A Call to all Developers!!!

Hello, Xda-developers....
First of all i would like to apologise to the mods.... for some reason XDA-Developers double posted my thread when i tried to edit it... I am sorry... please remove both of them...
I have been looking for interesting games for my Touch HD and Touch Pro and have sadly not been impressed by all of them... There have been some that stand out in my eyes, but not alot. So my plan is to create a group of developers to join in and make a series of great games for our Touch HD and (Touch Pro and Diamond). If anyone would like to help me in this process please do message me or post a reply... I have great graphic skills... but do not know much about developing windows mobile.
OVER Time I hope to release these games for other devices but as of now.. the main goal is...
WVGA and VGA resolution devices..
I have come up with a quick (outline of what some of the games will be) The shot is posted below...
again please contact me if you are interested in helping..
Current Developers:

nobody else wants to join in?
I agree 100%, there aren't enough good games on these phones. I wish I could help, but I know squat about programming. I wonder if it might not be easier to start out with porting existing games. I've always wanted Grim Fandango for my WM phone.
I would like to join in. I'm not that great in programming yet, but learning is key.
I have a great idea for a game, but dont know anything about programing.
This is a great idea! Too bad i don´t know anything about how to make games.
I'm sure their are some people interested.... i'll try to get more devs later....
Great idea, since you are developing for WVGA anyway, I couldn't be too hard to scale it down to WQVGA(Omnia) res. But obviously, you have your immediate goals to concentrate at right now. Hope this project gets through and gets the attention it deserves.
Akshay
I may be wrong... but i don't believe the omnia has 3D hardware acceleration????
if it does... later we would hope to make it fit WQVGA.. but as i said for now.... it is
WVGA and VGA
thanks again and we are trying hard to make this work....
Attached is a screenshot of my demo application so far.
Currently, the graphics is done in basic Win32 GDI, but I'll be upgrading that to D3DM when I work out the simplest way of doing so...
The white square is a background image that I created as a 48x48 pixel image. That can be changed so it takes up the whole screen.
As I don't currently have a VGA/WVGA device, I need people to test things for me.
Here is a demo of the base code on which games can be built. If some one could test it and report back, it'd be much appreciated! - Copy to your device and run it, VGA or WVGA in landscape is required.
It doesn't do a huge amount, the slide tab at the bottom works, and I need to see if that's responsive enough before I do anything else!

Downloaded and tested, slide seems very responsive for me. Tested on htc fuze using ROMeOS 1.60.1 rom. Not sure about why you said landscape is required though. It worked in portrait and looked just like your screenshot. But when I opened keyboard to go to landscape, it doesn't resize so slide is gone off bottom of screen out of view. I didn't know if it should auto-rotate based on gsensor either, but if it was then that wasn't working either. Very nice start though
thanks for the info showaco... we are planning a project release so that more devs can use the slider for more universal applications....
thats just an update for you guys...
thanks again for the support and feedback
added a new preview image...

added another "preview" image... check first post....

I've uploaded a new file with 4 tabs, and an updated skin.
Tomorrow should see a "dev" release, with source code, and the ability to use this is a base for games.
Updated version is here.

thanks...
I've just uploaded the source to the framework.

Ummm... So how's the dev. going? Seemed to have abruptly stopped. Seemed promising though...
Kudos for the effort though,

[DEV STOPPED!!!] wFacebook [QVGA & VGA] - SEE POST #284

EDIT:
DEVELOPMENT HAS STOPPED! Microsoft released a Facebook application which far surpasses anything i could have done. Please use that app for all your facebook addictions. It does not have Facebook chat but you can use Palringo for Facebook Chat. I've been using it for about a week now and LOVE IT! Thank you for all your support. It was a good learning experience for me!
Inspired by the other development efforts on here, I started developing my own version a facebook application.
As promised, another beta. This one including a VGA line.
See Second Post for Features and change logs
Directions:
You need .net cf 3.5
Unzip, Start app, Login and enjoy
BOTH FILES INCLUDED IN THE ZIP NEED TO BE IN THE SAME DIRECTORY!!! If you want to make a shortcut, make sure you make a SHORTCUT of the .exe and don't just copy the .exe alone
(Please not that it does take some time to first log in to facebook (some times up to 2 minutes). We are working on this issue and will hopefully reduce this time as much as possible.)
wFacebook is now full screen. To exit you must do the following:
QVGA: There is an exit button on the Home Screen (temporarily placed here)
VGA: There is an exit button on the bottom bar
NEW PICTURES COMING SOON!
Hope you guys enjoy and I will be updating this regularly. Planned features include facebook chat and other goodies. Stay tuned.

I am admittedly very weak in the graphics department. I want to make this look like what the Windows Mobile Community wants.
I am getting help developing new controls that will provide a more intuitive User Interface. Stay tuned everyone. Big things are happening. There are a decent amount of people behind this project and together we can get something very good out. Maybe start a whole series of wSomething products
i am willing to help with the graphics designing..id like to make sure that this thing works on vga though..the other application doesnt work at all on my touch pro..
just tell me the formats and size (both VGA and QVGA...i can make them in VGA first and then downscale to QVGA so that no quality is lost) of those images and i'll do my best
edit..i tried the qvga version and it does work up to one extend but the layouts are messed up
anyway let me know if you would like some help for the images

It does not need to be authorized. Please exit and restart the application. I have noticed a bug where if you recieve a call or text when it is connecting, something goes out of wack. Exit and restart and it should connect just fine. It does take a bit to connect but never that long.
I would be willing to help you with graphics just let me know and I'll whip some up for you

Is this right after you were logged in? Which button did you press? I will be uploading another version shortly that copies the error messages so you guys can attach here.
The most important thing is funtionality so I will be tackling these issues right away so any directions you can provide about what you did to get the error would be extremely helpful (if I can't reproduce it, I can't fix it).
Since facebook can be user customised with various applications and stuff, replicating an error might now always be feasible. Plus handling someone with a few thousand friends (yeah right ) could be troublesome.
Maybe for the first versions you can add a full debug log? Before every major function call you can write to file the arguments you are using (or at least a note of you are going to do). It might be slow(er) from a user perspective, but could make your life and debugging *much* easier.
As with the other Facebook application here, this one logs you out of facebook from other machines/devices when you log in with this app.

OMG! I can't stop laughing. A request for a development, linked to a thread here, with a title for an iphone type lock............S2U2. Oh the insanity!
LOL
cant believe! hilarious!
check
www.ac-s2.com
hey did you read his post? he says all lock apps are unattractive. Apparently the Iphone lock looks waaaaay better than S2u2. I mean the iphone lock cant be customized so its waaaay more attractive than s2u2 that can look like anything.
S2u2
Pocketshield
Throttlelock
These are all customizable therefore potentally infinitely more attractive
I posted the Wrong URL i meant to paste this http://iphone3g-india.com/password-protect-your-applications-sms-pictures-in-iphone/
and i said "App Lock" Not Device Lock
Now back to the matter Can someone help me out here with a link or developing something like that
Ok if your are looking for a program that unlocks individual programs and areas of your phone you may have to wait. In the mean time tell us what type of phone you have. You dont go to an engineer and ask him to make an engine then walk away.
Otherwise download the latest version of S2u2 it has a password mode. It locks everything but its the closest thing you will find. If you dont like the way it looks (i dont know why, since the application you linked to is hideous) you can always customize it

I have been searching for an application locker for WM6 too, but without success. I'm running an Xperia by the way...
Palm had AppLock, Symbian S60v3 has Advanced Device Locks, so what has WM6 got? Nothing as far as I can tell.
I'm not looking for something that is bombproof, just something to deter the casual observer. I'd like to specify which applications to protect, and when someone runs one of those applications it pops up a 'please enter password' request - enter the right password and the application launches, enter the wrong password and the application doesn't launch.
Then, if I give my phone to someone to play with, I know they can't go poking around at things I don't want them to see...but they CAN see the device in action for themselves...
I've never figured out why such a thing doesn't exist - I'd have thought it would be a popular thing to want...
I knows it so easy to develop a app like this with all the new apps out no one still havent made a good enough app lock

[mar 8 2009] CE 5 explorer in WM

http://www.nuerom.com/BlogEngine/post/2009/03/08/CE-5-Explorer-is-getting-there-Really!.aspx
So, I've got CE 5 explorer running in WM on a HTC Titan. There are some stupid quirks with how WM handles windows, but I would say its a much more preferable shell (my opinion)! Anywho, hopefully I can make it usable for everyday use soon.. .cprog doesn't seem to be playing nicely.
ooohhh.... nice! How is the speed?
Wow, this is very good message! I was trying do it a lots of times, but without result. Rotate screen function is working correctly? Will you share the beta version ?

Sadly, screen rotate crashes the device, I've yet to figure why. Currently you kind of need KITL to make it work since you need to kill welcome.exe that wants to start up no matter what I do, but yes, of course I will release a beta version when I get a chance.
impressive work no2chem, keep up the good work, looking foward to the release.
YAY-YAY-YAY!!!
Can't wait to see it on my Universal!
I always hated that phone-like interface designed for idiots...
this is insanely exciting.
I always hated WM's crippled UI
This looks awesome, keep up the good work!
no2chem, can you share what you have at this moment?
Looking great! Please keep us updated, I'd really prefer this over the over-simplified WM interface, and maybe with a bit of skinning, it could be perfect!
Can't wait to get this see ported to a VGA device.
Like the universal or the diamond.
Great work.
There is a similar project here: Lindołsookiekowywszowiez
ibrythill, this is not exactly similar project.
Sorry, maybe I don't get it but how does switching to the CE explorer actually work? Would you have to flash your device or is it simply a set of settings?
any progress? or it's death?
