EDIT:
DEVELOPMENT HAS STOPPED! Microsoft released a Facebook application which far surpasses anything i could have done. Please use that app for all your facebook addictions. It does not have Facebook chat but you can use Palringo for Facebook Chat. I've been using it for about a week now and LOVE IT! Thank you for all your support. It was a good learning experience for me!
Inspired by the other development efforts on here, I started developing my own version a facebook application.
As promised, another beta. This one including a VGA line.
See Second Post for Features and change logs
Directions:
You need .net cf 3.5
Unzip, Start app, Login and enjoy
BOTH FILES INCLUDED IN THE ZIP NEED TO BE IN THE SAME DIRECTORY!!! If you want to make a shortcut, make sure you make a SHORTCUT of the .exe and don't just copy the .exe alone
(Please not that it does take some time to first log in to facebook (some times up to 2 minutes). We are working on this issue and will hopefully reduce this time as much as possible.)
wFacebook is now full screen. To exit you must do the following:
QVGA: There is an exit button on the Home Screen (temporarily placed here)
VGA: There is an exit button on the bottom bar
NEW PICTURES COMING SOON!
Hope you guys enjoy and I will be updating this regularly. Planned features include facebook chat and other goodies. Stay tuned.

I am admittedly very weak in the graphics department. I want to make this look like what the Windows Mobile Community wants.
I am getting help developing new controls that will provide a more intuitive User Interface. Stay tuned everyone. Big things are happening. There are a decent amount of people behind this project and together we can get something very good out. Maybe start a whole series of wSomething products
i am willing to help with the graphics designing..id like to make sure that this thing works on vga though..the other application doesnt work at all on my touch pro..
just tell me the formats and size (both VGA and QVGA...i can make them in VGA first and then downscale to QVGA so that no quality is lost) of those images and i'll do my best
edit..i tried the qvga version and it does work up to one extend but the layouts are messed up
anyway let me know if you would like some help for the images
iv used a lot of photoshop tutorials recently to learn a lot of things.. here are a few icons i made recently

does this need to be authorised on facebook? if so do you have a link?
i have installed on my diamond to test (i know the graphics will be out) and am currently passing 7 mins for first logon.
that can't be right can it?
ps this looks very promising, keep working on it looking forward to seeing the vga version working

It does not need to be authorized. Please exit and restart the application. I have noticed a bug where if you recieve a call or text when it is connecting, something goes out of wack. Exit and restart and it should connect just fine. It does take a bit to connect but never that long.
I would be willing to help you with graphics just let me know and I'll whip some up for you

Is this right after you were logged in? Which button did you press? I will be uploading another version shortly that copies the error messages so you guys can attach here.
The most important thing is funtionality so I will be tackling these issues right away so any directions you can provide about what you did to get the error would be extremely helpful (if I can't reproduce it, I can't fix it).
Since facebook can be user customised with various applications and stuff, replicating an error might now always be feasible. Plus handling someone with a few thousand friends (yeah right ) could be troublesome.
Maybe for the first versions you can add a full debug log? Before every major function call you can write to file the arguments you are using (or at least a note of you are going to do). It might be slow(er) from a user perspective, but could make your life and debugging *much* easier.
As with the other Facebook application here, this one logs you out of facebook from other machines/devices when you log in with this app.

Very, very nice.
Have you thought of doing that in C ? It would be much faster i guess.
Anyway, keep up the good work.

Wow.
I was told that that couldn't be done on a ppc because of graphics limitations...
Where can I get it?

If i knew programming it would be nice I started making this a week ago, and it was really really difficult for me, because I didn't even know flash, and actionscripts for ppc was difficult to find and get to work properly.. like the sip command etc...
Thanks for the comments!
Well, iContact was my first app written in c for win32. And it was and still is difficult.
I started with similar to yours, in C. If you decide to try to redo your app in C i'll be glad to help.
Good luck.

This application is just a "semi" application. It will probably not work good on all devices, since I've implemented some commands that probably are specific for wm2003.
It's made in Flash, and Flash communicates with mortscript for all external commands (to open apps, import ram, change backlight, etc), except some "sip" commands and a few more.
The links to the apps can be changed through the mortscripts, but not the icons for now. I will try and research for a way to do it, but "flashplayer 7 for ppc" can only read normal jpg, so i'm not sure if it is possible. In worst case after I'm finished, I'll at least share the .fla file for tweaking, with some basic documentation.
You will also need a flash compiler that can build .exe files of flash files for ppc.
Thanks for your reply. I hope that you are going to make a full working application and share it with us.
Thank you.

sorry... I'm pretty busy getting the mp3 player to work properly... it seems that the flashprojector has problems reading xml files outside the compiled .exe file.
I'm trying to get a workaround, but with my feeble actionscript skills it takes a long time...
(the thing is that the xml files is needed to add songs, and load mp3s... not the perfect way to do it but the only way to do it with flash...) I'll post more on this subject tomorrow.
Some bad news: since you have VGA resolution, and this uses qVGA resolution, it probably won't look good on your device. I will hopefully have an .exe compiled until friday.
Sorry to bring an old thread back. Can you narrow the/a application to just the animation of the opening and closing of applications for the ones that dont want the complete app but want the window animations?

That's the old version. A new video should be made to show the new items added like text keyboard, weather, news, apps, games, etc.
Maybe someone could find this interesting...
While I find cumbersome to find out the (for instance) IP addresses assigned to the device, or frustrating when Internet Explorer cannot find any web page because the current connection is the WRONG one...
... I ended up writing my own Today Screen plugin to display more information on the active connection. Yeah, I know this is not quite a "common" requirement, but maybe someone finds it useful... or even can suggest further improvements - that will be of course welcome!
I've attached some screenshots of it running on both a WM5 emulator and my real Hermes running WM6 - thanks Schap!
Please, feel free to use it, redistribute it, add to a ROM kitchen, or cook it into any ROM...
Updated August, 13th...
More changes with the 1.3 version. Now localization has been added. I'm currently shipping this version with English (native) and Spanish languages. I've also added a ZIP file with a little document where you can find instructions to localize/translate ConnState to your preferred language and a template localization file for English.
Hasta la vista!!!!
Version History:
V1.0
First version released.
V1.1
VGA screen support added (enough to make it usable)
V1.2
Completed VGA screen support.
Added expand/collapse button - per popular request
V1.3
Localization support. ConnState currently ships in English and Spanish languages.
Thanks!!! Good work.
Thanks, PPCNUT... now let's see if someone likes it!!

Of course... in fact, why didn't I think about that in first place? :$ I was thinking about leaving the plugin "collapsed" (the size of "no connection") and add a right-hand minibutton that expands the thing up to its size... And even allow tapping you on it to open another window with full details on the connection...
This weekend will be fun
Thanks alot for your comments!!!
This is actually very nice work and I would use it, once you were able to condense it into a smaller amount of space.
Dont work in VGA screen (

Nice. I would definitely use this if it was 'shorter'
Totally not for noobs but if you are are a road warrior, or on the road a lot sniffing WiFi hotspots then this is really a great add on!

Nice one, @dpduser - that's staying on my Today screen!!!
As it's a today screen plugin, can you make the Options button in the today screen configuration give us access to the things we wanna see displayed in the plugin?? I'm thinking of having the MAC addresss displayed, but wouldn't necessarily want it all the time - same goes for the connection being used; if I'm at home, then I'm usually using Wi-Fi.....you catch my drift??

Feedback & ongoing work
First, thanks to all of you that took the time to play with ConnState!!
For the "improvements" part, and as I have read from your feedback:
- Regarding an "Options" dialog to configure somewhat more "advanced" features, yes, I'm working on it - It just takes a little longer than expected because now I'm trying to do a more compatible component, that must support QVGA & VGA screens and has to do so both in portrait and landscape orientations (if you do it, do it right, isn't it? ) BTW... anyone out there with a SQUARE screen device?
- MAC addresses? Yeah, I guess it's feasible... I'll try to add both MAC & PAN addresses. Not obvious, somewhat tricky but absolutely feasible!
- Show proxy information: regarding this, I was amazed at how tricky it is to discover the current proxy configuration for a connection! In first place I have to deal with WM's Provisioning and do that in XML (so an XML parser has to be placed in!)
- Localization!! Of course YES!!! Now I have two options to do it: one could be to maintain a single .DLL with embedded resources in a variety of languages or I could build a number of different DLLs each one built for a language... Hmmmm... Currently deciding on it!! I can do both Spanish and English versions... What languages are required? Would you, nice people, help me localizing this?

I'm Vietnamese so that I like to see my mother language display on my PPC.
In addition, it'd be cool if I could translate the localization file by Notepad without creating a DLL file (just like Spb does).

Installed, working great on Hermes, except the today plug-in isn't activated by default after install. Maybe this is because of the variety of devices enabling the today-plugins, i don't know.
What does CorrentDTPTNetwork mean?
Hello everyone!
I'm new on this forum and I've only read TONS of useful information till now...Few days ago I bought an HTC Touch device and immediately I flashed its ROM with a new one found in this *** WONDERFUL *** site
Well, in the past I developed some (stupid) applications for Windows in several languages; then I discover the "pocket-pc" world and began to have to do with it! One night I was reading about a feature of a developement-version of a well known browser and WOOOOOOOW!!!! "You can perform several actions, like scrolling, panning, zooming...only by moving your phone!" The software use image-processing algorithms to recognize your gestures ...only using the built-in camera!!!! No accelometers needed...
Something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3pVaEVHpvI
Now, image-processing algorithms are not too difficult to implement...but how can I get access to the built-in camera on my Htc ?!? I tried to search all over the internet, and in this forum too...but I found only few things about HTCCameraAPI and many other programs and their dlls. I cannot believe there's no way to have access to the camera!!!
HELP please!!! this "project" could be very interesting!
One thing is sure - it _can_ be done, and it can work really good, even on weak hardware - look at this:
http://rivia.net/Fishopolis.aspx
I just tried the demo and i was amazed how well it worked on my wizard (especially considering its crappy camera), even in less than perfect lighting conditions (incadescent light). No overclocking required.
Also, from what i've seen WM7 is going to use the camera-based gestures too. So, anyone willing to beat M$ to it and develop a camera-based ftouchflo-like app?
I've looked at the libs, and I've even dabbled in the source, and this is my next project. Like I said, we know it can be done, it's just a matter of doing it. Obviously though, I've got to finish off PocketMelody etc. But it's my next move, once no one beats me to it . And personally, I hope someone does! It's not THAT hard.
Welcome to the forums gregnapola!
This website hepled me choose my very first PPC Phone 18 months ago and helped it become the best little device I own. It just keeps getting better and better with tools such as FTouchFlo, PocketMelody and Picture Flow, and I look forward to this feature onMY HTC Hermes!
Shows how much really can be done with this WM platform, all you need is developers with imagination and talent (and all the other things that go along with it like coffe and donations and and respect on the forums ).
Thanks guys.
maybe we would have some1 develop a program that automatically changes portrait mode into landscape by jus rotating the camera..hey u never kno..this is XDA-DEVELOPERS..
Sounds awesome and would definitly love to see this done. Just a quick question about it. Would it be a big battery drain to have this running all the time?

Considering that you're not rendering anything to the screen, it's at least safe to assume you'll be using A LOT less power than if you were walking around with your camera application on all day .
Thank you for your replies...
I've just installed the demo version of "Rivia Fishopolis" to see how well can it work but it doesn't run it because of an unknow security-error
Now, I found a lot of useful camera-based applications, but they'll come in the future - I'm talking about WM7 gesture-based control, NetFront 3.5 or EyeMobile Games by GestureTek...but all I really need is the way to capture frames by my Elf camera; code samples in any Visual Studio language with HTCCameraAPI, or any other lib...
any update?
I'd also love to substitute my D-Pad for a Camera-based Motion Tracking system
No Dev takes this challenge?

Im trying to use Fishopolis on my phone ( an HTC Wizard) but i keep on getting some kind of weird security error.
Any ideas why im getting that error and how to fix it?
doesn't seem to work with the camera on the Hermes...hmmm
Looks like we will have to wait until 2009 for WM7.
wouldn't it consume a lot more battery if camera is always on.
just my thought
I think this is a cool idea and I think I mentioned this somewhere else in this forum, but if this could be done, it would be cool if one could use the camera of there phone, link it via bluetooth and use it as a mouse for a laptop.
Just thinking outloud.

Thanks Radical. But I have tried this, it doesn't give the option that we get in this viewer.. It's Photo contacts is very good and it's like Diamond one, but not the photo viewer. I am really looking for the one in the video.. It's really awesome, you can use the finger scrolling from the main screen to swipe thru the photos.
It is most likely that your device won't support it anyway... TouchFlo 3D is very graphics intensive...

Actually i did a test like that for pictures first, but it isnt very usable.
I think that feature in Daimond is just to show, not really to use regularly. I prefer the Camera album to view pictures because you can see all the photos in a list and then choose from one.
It can easily be done in flash but the finger motion effects have a problem with the current 'players', if you press the screen and dont release it for a second only, it pops up the "about flash" window.
Still, if you use simple buttons instead of finger motions, like I did for my flash contact list, all you need is a ouside program to list all the images in \storage card\my documents\my pictures (or whererver) to a xml or txt file, then the flash would read all the picture names as variables and present them in that kind of slideshow (or even better animations, like 3d cubes turning or fade-ins) . Do remenber that the 'photo turn 3d effect' would slow things down.
So, depending on the speed of the pocket pc model it would be slow, it isnt very slow on my dual because it has 400 mhz, but there are a lot of models out there with 200mhz...
Also, for some reason, the flash lite engine works faster but has more bugs reading images than the flash 7 engine. :/
And then it comes back to the today plugin, the only good current one is from the Throttle author but it only has one hardcoded size, he is doing a better one, and THAT one I cant wait for... it sounds as good as melted cheese!
That's exactly what I am looking at.

IT's wonderful work twolf, and that is exactly what I am looking at... Will it be possible to post a cab file of the one in the video.. So that I can test and use it on my phone.. I have seen your website and is pretty impressive.. Will it be possible to share the work that you have done here.. So that all of us can enjoy it..
Thats not dependant of me, just of the trotthle author, sorry, like I said I gave that to him.
But after he releases his new plugin, I'll be sure to make a lot of flash goodies for everyone, always releasing the sourcode, because, as I said, I'm a iilustrator, not a programmer, and Im sure others can do so much more.
thanks Twolf

Thanks Twolf.. I tried this before and I am trying the Tempus V13 now..It works perfect, but the till still skips by 1 sec every 2 secs and becomes very slow during skip.. And also takes lots of memory around 3-4 MB on my HTC Touch... Which is a lot for my phone.. . is there is a work going to reduce this... I can't wait !!! for Throttle author to release new version.. ..Tempting
Actually the skipping is good, it does skip sometimes but thats my way of making sure the time is always correct. Otherwise the minutes could change before the seconds reached 59.
The slowness is really because of the 200mhz of the touch, sorry...
As for memory, thats flash...
Maybe in the next version of throttle since the weather and clock are separated and in flash lite, they may become faster, time and tests will tell.
Thank you Twolf
Thanks Twolf.. This is a great application and I am currently trying Throttle launcher works great on my Touch.. Thanks for all you guys work.. Fantastic... Hope to see more from you.. thank you..
Hello, Xda-developers....
First of all i would like to apologise to the mods.... for some reason XDA-Developers double posted my thread when i tried to edit it... I am sorry... please remove both of them...
I have been looking for interesting games for my Touch HD and Touch Pro and have sadly not been impressed by all of them... There have been some that stand out in my eyes, but not alot. So my plan is to create a group of developers to join in and make a series of great games for our Touch HD and (Touch Pro and Diamond). If anyone would like to help me in this process please do message me or post a reply... I have great graphic skills... but do not know much about developing windows mobile.
OVER Time I hope to release these games for other devices but as of now.. the main goal is...
WVGA and VGA resolution devices..
I have come up with a quick (outline of what some of the games will be) The shot is posted below...
again please contact me if you are interested in helping..
Current Developers:

Finished Ui development and going to start game development

nobody else wants to join in?
I agree 100%, there aren't enough good games on these phones. I wish I could help, but I know squat about programming. I wonder if it might not be easier to start out with porting existing games. I've always wanted Grim Fandango for my WM phone.
I would like to join in. I'm not that great in programming yet, but learning is key.
I have a great idea for a game, but dont know anything about programing.
This is a great idea! Too bad i donĀ“t know anything about how to make games.
I'm sure their are some people interested.... i'll try to get more devs later....
Great idea, since you are developing for WVGA anyway, I couldn't be too hard to scale it down to WQVGA(Omnia) res. But obviously, you have your immediate goals to concentrate at right now. Hope this project gets through and gets the attention it deserves.
Akshay
I may be wrong... but i don't believe the omnia has 3D hardware acceleration????
if it does... later we would hope to make it fit WQVGA.. but as i said for now.... it is
WVGA and VGA
thanks again and we are trying hard to make this work....
Attached is a screenshot of my demo application so far.
Currently, the graphics is done in basic Win32 GDI, but I'll be upgrading that to D3DM when I work out the simplest way of doing so...
The white square is a background image that I created as a 48x48 pixel image. That can be changed so it takes up the whole screen.
As I don't currently have a VGA/WVGA device, I need people to test things for me.
Here is a demo of the base code on which games can be built. If some one could test it and report back, it'd be much appreciated! - Copy to your device and run it, VGA or WVGA in landscape is required.
It doesn't do a huge amount, the slide tab at the bottom works, and I need to see if that's responsive enough before I do anything else!

Downloaded and tested, slide seems very responsive for me. Tested on htc fuze using ROMeOS 1.60.1 rom. Not sure about why you said landscape is required though. It worked in portrait and looked just like your screenshot. But when I opened keyboard to go to landscape, it doesn't resize so slide is gone off bottom of screen out of view. I didn't know if it should auto-rotate based on gsensor either, but if it was then that wasn't working either. Very nice start though
thanks for the info showaco... we are planning a project release so that more devs can use the slider for more universal applications....
thats just an update for you guys...
thanks again for the support and feedback
added a new preview image...
check first post...
added another "preview" image... check first post....

Sorry! I meant portrait is required! :S
I've uploaded a new file with 4 tabs, and an updated skin.
Tomorrow should see a "dev" release, with source code, and the ability to use this is a base for games.
Updated version is here.

haha, I thought you might of meant portrait. So does that mean no landscape support? BTW, latest file works well, same as first.
landscape support will be available....
all in good time my friend... as we speak i am thinking which format would be good for landscape support..
thanks...
I've just uploaded the source to the framework.
Here it is!
Ummm... So how's the dev. going? Seemed to have abruptly stopped. Seemed promising though...
Kudos for the effort though,
