I officially have to 'LOL' at McAfee and users of their software (no offence). The 'iwindowssoftware' (aka Vito software) site is completely safe and so are their downloads.

Interesting that it makes you laugh. You'll have to beg my pardon, but I'd rather put my trust in a big company that has been devoted to protect against viruses and malware for years than in two forum members that tell me - by making posts containing a capitalized "lol" - above website is safe without any proof.
Having said that, I know mcafee is not air-tight, no "anti"-virus program is. It's proven to me that it's much better than nothing, as it has succesfully protected my computer (and those on the network I'm on) against many small threats over an extended period of time.

Back on topic, I'd love to see a good sms replacement application, the windows outlook is so damn crappy. Even TF3D is just a shell, which still uses poutlook. I've already replaced my calendar (although that is again, a shell, but fully functional), wish I could do the same for sms and e-mail.
I don't think that'll show up though, poutlook is completely embedded in most ROMS (and I'm guessing fairly hard to take out). So who'd go through the trouble of creating it all over again, mozilla maybe?

Sorry, but do not trust McAfee. Or you will be lost...perhaps you already are. It often prduces false alarms.
Try G-Data, AntiVir Premium or F-Secure.

Here is a Total Virus scan of the SMS-Chat exe.

Looks clean to me.

WordNetCE

Hi All,
Well I've kicked off my first windows mobile project with a progam I call "WordNetCE". If anyone is familiar with Princeton University's program called WordNet you will know you can use it as a brilliant dictionary/thesaurus, amongst other things that are beyond a normal human's intelligence.
One thing I've found lacking for Pocket PC is a decent free dictionary/thesaurus, so I've set out to make one based upon WordNet which is free to distribute from Princeton. A person named Malcolm Crowe did the original .NET port for WordNet 1.6, so I modified it to work with the new WordNet 2.0 dictionary, as well as with the Pocket PC platform (it wasn't all copy & paste...).
It's free to download from http://www.ebswift.com/PocketPC/WordNet/.
Note though that I have only just barely kicked this project off, but the dictionary side of things is operating. You will find much of the other functionality isn't working, but will come online soon.
Please check it out and start giving me some feedback. Thanks.
Just fixed up a lot more of the functionality - it's more useable compared to what it was before if anyone had a chance to look. A couple of buttons are still not complete, as with most of the main menu, but it can do about 20 times more than what it could this morning.
Look very promising!
Just one question: Is it mandatory to store the WordNet database onto a storage card, or can I store it on internal RAM too?

At the moment it's mandatory, but there's no reason why I can't add an option. Not many people will be able to use main memory because the database is ~over~ 30 meg!

I wonder why? I'm using the T-Mobile 4.01.16 ROM on an XDA 1 and installed the CAB with no problems. Are you using an XDA 2? I'm not sure if there's any difference with the CAB installers between XDA1/2, or maybe there's corruption in the download file, I'll check tomorrow. VS.NET outputs CAB's for all the difference PPC processors, so I'll put them up ASAP to cover other devices than the XDA1.
Thanks for the feedback
Here's a screenshot that's also on the website :

I'm really sorry about that, my download algorithm had a response.end, so a "Thread Aborted" was being tagged onto any download. Changing that to Response.Flush seems to have fixed it, at least for that cab file.
Please give it another go, I do appologise for coming up with such a thread with a screwed download.

Hey man, no appologies needed. Great work, thanks for the great freeware. It worked great.
Thanks Iggy. Bear with me for a few minutes if there's any problem with the download, I'm just writing some referrer protection into downloads. It won't take long.
===OK, the referrer protection is finished and it's all working again...
I just uploaded a version I call 0.5 because it's 0.5% finished. Compared to the version since I posted last in this thread there's some major bugfixes; the adjective and adverb menus now correctly show, and there's versions for different processors.

sorry ebswift, the download links don't seem to work, and once you have fixed them what is the difference between arm & arm4 (xda ii maybe). let me know when it is fixed.
The download is now fixed ~again~...
I already responded to Iggy, but just so the group knows, ARMV4 is the one that seems to be uploaded to my device during debug sessions, so I can safely say that ARMV4 is somehow newer than ARM. So I guess anything XDA1 or upwards can use ARMV4. I have had both working on my XDA1 and I can't see any difference in operation, although I haven't tested for performance.
Nice job brother. Now works perfectly
Well I added the little convenience of the keypad popping up automatically, and popping away on lost focus. There's also a couple more menu items in operation. It's really not far away from working completely, most of the technical stuff is out of the way.
Just downloaded and tried, excellent work. Thanks for setting up the keyboard, makes it a lot easier. Looking forward to the final version, but so far excellent.
I just upgraded to 0.53 so the history works (or should work).
I'm really happy the way this project is going.
All features operating
I have just uploaded WordNetCE .99 with ALL features now operating. Please update to that version and let me know if there's any bugs. Thanks!
For those of you who tried that latest download and found it didn't work, it is now patched, you should be able to get it up and running now.

Hattrick Mobile

Greetings,
I assume that many of you know Hattrick (http://www.hattrick.org)!
For those that don't know, it's an online football team management game, like CM for the PC's! Addictive, to say the least!!
For those who know it, for sure you know that there are hundreds of applications for offline managment of your team, but there's not a single one for Pocket PC. The reason for this is simples: this is not allowed!!!
As a developer, I got in contact with the GameMasters to request them to change rule #13 that stats "Applications for mobile phones and PDA's are not allowed, yet.", without great success...
So, I made an online petition for them to remove this useless rule! You can find the petition at http://www.petitiononline.com/htmobile
Please read it, and if you agree with it, sign it!
Thank's for your attention!
Greate initiative!
It would be nice if they changed this rule. However....
Furthermore, Hattrick has a paid SMS warning system that could easily be replaced by such applications running on mobile phones and PDA’s with Internet connectivity capabilities!
Click to collapse
You have stated exactly why this rule is in place! If you could run mobile HT software there would be no income from their SMS service. Why would they ever shoot themselves in the foot by removing the rule and destroying their income?

Ok, you're right, but that does that guive them the wright to set this stupid rule?
Can anyone tell me how is it possible that Hattrick used to work on my P1i and not on my X1 ? Is there a way to bypass this ? User agent or something ?

Myspace problems on 8125?

hi,
lately ive been trying to leave comments or deny friends and such on myspace.com but when i do this, i always get an error message from myspace (the oops one). i have also noticed this on my friend's sidekick and brother's wizard. im thinking it has to do with the mobile devices internet settings but im not too sure. if anyone has an explanation or fix to this, then thatd be great. thnx in advance.

Use Opera Mini (free) or Netfront 3.3 (WAY better than PIE). Either one of those can log into Myspace & leave comments. PIE can log in sometimes but cannot leave comments. Something about the javascripting and stuff

Seriously though, my guess would be myspace uses ome type of more advanced javascript then a thinned-down browser like PIE can understand, so it doesn't work correctly.
As David said, just use Opera Mini. It works great.
And delete your myspace
use http://proxy.bz it works just fine
minimo from firefox works with myspade as well. And is also free.

i just tweak the reg to pIE 5 to pIE 7 and works a charm you should try you'll be surprised
My opinion, and proven, myspace is really a corporation, now that it has many users, its is revealing its true side. You can really look into My Space phone's such as "helio" phones, and the Helio company. (America). I am retailing Helio, and their selling faster than v3's when they came out.

Works like a charm. I was on since jan 04 and i just deleted mine 2 months ago. I felt like a loser since myspace was one of the first and last things i would do for the day. After dealing with it's slow server lately due to it's dramatic growth, i decided it was better not to have it because of all the frequent bugs and lagging issues.
Myspace is gay...y is everyone letting it replace texts and phone calls which mean more to friends. That's just my opinion so please don't comment about it.

I agree with you. Myspace is gay, but hey, if it's helping me pay my bills I'm fine with it
Myspace is for showing off friends you have, but Nothing beats meeting your friends at the pool hall on Sundays
i think you guys who hate myspace, think about it too much. Its just one mroe thing you can do if you're bored. It doesn't replace phone calls. Its juts one more way to keep in touch with people if you choose to. Myspace is only a bad thing if you let it own you.
And as for the topic. Minimo works fine for me. As does opera. I'd be interested in hearing that PIE hack though.
Hey k2snowboards88, just don't take it a bad way where just stating our opinion. I've seen girls walk around with "Have I seen you on myspace" shirts. My friend, she does that, I joke at her all the time.
And the PIE hack, if you download Tweak2k2, you can automatically change or disguise it as IE7.
You can use Tweak2k2 three times then you have to pay for it
haha, good to see myspace losing people
As for the PIE hack, you can change PIE's User Agent settings in the registry so that it's telling web servers it's IE 6.0, not IE 4.01 as it reports now.
Make sure PIE is closed.
In you registry, navigate to:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Internet Settings\5.0\User Agent
You need to change the Version key to a value of "MSIE 6.0"
You may also need to change the Platform key to a value of "Windows NT 5.1"
Reopen PIE and you should be good to go.
Or if you don't feel comfortable doing that you can install PIEplus and it has a built-in option for easily switching your user agent.

Finger Friendly Outlook

I was wondering if anyone is working on a way to give the "PocketCM" treatment to outlook. If ever there was a need to add some finger friendliness to an app, Outlook is the one. Is there a technical reason that this has not been done, or is it simply not possible? Can there be an app that interacts with Outlook that would give this sort of functionality?
I know that there are a LOT of talented dev here, and I use your apps, and man would it be sweet (Like I would even pay for test versions of an app/client) to have something like this to go along with the S2 app and POcketCM/ThumbCal.

*Gasp* Wow! You mean FTouchSL now resizes hyperlinks and attachments and contact boxes and menu options and all that so that I don't have to hit them with a fingernail?! Man, I have TOTALLY not been keeping up with THAT piece of software! I'm so glad you informed us about those new developments in the FTouchSL world, Champ. I mean, I'm sure you're not equating "finger-friendly" entirely with just the ability to scroll, because that would just be incredibly short-sighted, asinine and totally miss out on a lot of what the original poster was probably asking for. So thanks, I'm going to go check out their new version right now.

Another sigh.....
PocketCM's contact input is quite similar to poutlook, I would suggest a different app, but the OP wanted a finger friendly poutlook, so yes I did suggest FTouchSL. One of the biggest downsides, in my opinion and I'm sure others, is that there is no "flick n' scroll" feature avail. So, that's right, I suggested it, and it is a perfect way to make poutlook finger-friendly, have a better idea?
P.S.: I'll quote the OP here, "Can there be an app that interacts with Outlook that would give this sort of functionality?"

I also want to quote OP (and this is his first sentence): "I was wondering if anyone is working on a way to give the "PocketCM" treatment to outlook."
you are just trying to manipulate what OP said for you own cause...
so.. what your answer should have been.. "if you want scrolling then go for FtouchSL or Ftouchflo (free version), for other functionalities, currently there is no software (atleast i dont know about)"

No manipulation here, personally I'm not too worried with what this guy uses or will use, but I gave a suggestion. Currently, your right, there is no other addition, other than FTouchSL, to WM software that will make it "finger friendly", but I'm sure glad you also found it necessary to go against my opinion. While this doesn't modify poutlook's design or layout, the scroll option does make it easier to browse through and select your data for viewing. I'll kick back here and wait for your suggestion !

actually "atleast i dont know about" was as much for me as for you..
and blowfish you can take it easy.. i think champ just misunderstood the OP..
I appreciate the "spirited" response my post has elicited! My intent was to truly get away from the stock Outlook interface as it is damn near impossible to navigate with one hand, even with FTouchSL. I have been using a trial version, and I have found, though the app is a pretty sweet piece of work, that it interferes with the "finger friendliness" of other app designed to handle kinetic scrolling and the like on their own.
With apps like PocketCM and ThumbCal, I am able to avoid much of the insanity of the GUI for Calendars, Contacts, and SMS. I would LOVE to have it this way with email as that is something that is integral to my core business and primary use of the device.

How To Remove Manilla 2d From Your Phone

no need for add/remove programs here! simply go to start-settings-today-items, uncheck touchflo, hit ok. go to system tab, remove programs, and remove the 2d! no extra programs needed. it may take a few minutes to uninstall but i have not had the uninstall fail on me yet.
Failed for me last week. Yep, tried what you said. 6.1 tilt. It WAS the newest release at the time.
Just a heads up.

although its gr8 to have manila on HTC touch (i thank da xda guys), but if at all u wanna remove it, try removing it by SKtools.. google sktools and u'll find it. its pretty easy to uninstall but u cant uninstall thru phone's native "remove programs"
I'm not asking whether it works or not, I got that obviously already, I just wanted to know why. And thank You but I think the PC/Mac parallel is a bit exaggerated cos HTC and ASUS for example are not that different like ASUS and iPhone.
The reason I referred to Manila 2D as **** was exactly the reason that it requires specifically a HTC device. Therefore, it's **** for me as I can't do anything with it owning an ASUS device. And I just wanted to know why.
