I was wondering if anyone is working on a way to give the "PocketCM" treatment to outlook. If ever there was a need to add some finger friendliness to an app, Outlook is the one. Is there a technical reason that this has not been done, or is it simply not possible? Can there be an app that interacts with Outlook that would give this sort of functionality?
I know that there are a LOT of talented dev here, and I use your apps, and man would it be sweet (Like I would even pay for test versions of an app/client) to have something like this to go along with the S2 app and POcketCM/ThumbCal.

*Gasp* Wow! You mean FTouchSL now resizes hyperlinks and attachments and contact boxes and menu options and all that so that I don't have to hit them with a fingernail?! Man, I have TOTALLY not been keeping up with THAT piece of software! I'm so glad you informed us about those new developments in the FTouchSL world, Champ. I mean, I'm sure you're not equating "finger-friendly" entirely with just the ability to scroll, because that would just be incredibly short-sighted, asinine and totally miss out on a lot of what the original poster was probably asking for. So thanks, I'm going to go check out their new version right now.

Another sigh.....
PocketCM's contact input is quite similar to poutlook, I would suggest a different app, but the OP wanted a finger friendly poutlook, so yes I did suggest FTouchSL. One of the biggest downsides, in my opinion and I'm sure others, is that there is no "flick n' scroll" feature avail. So, that's right, I suggested it, and it is a perfect way to make poutlook finger-friendly, have a better idea?
P.S.: I'll quote the OP here, "Can there be an app that interacts with Outlook that would give this sort of functionality?"

I also want to quote OP (and this is his first sentence): "I was wondering if anyone is working on a way to give the "PocketCM" treatment to outlook."
you are just trying to manipulate what OP said for you own cause...
so.. what your answer should have been.. "if you want scrolling then go for FtouchSL or Ftouchflo (free version), for other functionalities, currently there is no software (atleast i dont know about)"

No manipulation here, personally I'm not too worried with what this guy uses or will use, but I gave a suggestion. Currently, your right, there is no other addition, other than FTouchSL, to WM software that will make it "finger friendly", but I'm sure glad you also found it necessary to go against my opinion. While this doesn't modify poutlook's design or layout, the scroll option does make it easier to browse through and select your data for viewing. I'll kick back here and wait for your suggestion !

actually "atleast i dont know about" was as much for me as for you..
and blowfish you can take it easy.. i think champ just misunderstood the OP..
I appreciate the "spirited" response my post has elicited! My intent was to truly get away from the stock Outlook interface as it is damn near impossible to navigate with one hand, even with FTouchSL. I have been using a trial version, and I have found, though the app is a pretty sweet piece of work, that it interferes with the "finger friendliness" of other app designed to handle kinetic scrolling and the like on their own.
With apps like PocketCM and ThumbCal, I am able to avoid much of the insanity of the GUI for Calendars, Contacts, and SMS. I would LOVE to have it this way with email as that is something that is integral to my core business and primary use of the device.
Related
With all the touch roms and in particular Tene's beautiful software, and a new calendar app on it's way, I got thinking that a finger friendly file explorer would be a great enhancement to our devices. I imagine that when launched it would come up with a list of your favourite file locations in a user defined scrollable list. For example "my documents" or "all music files" etc. If you select "all video files" it would then show them, when a video is selected it would ask what software you wanted to open it with and if it should do the same every time for that item.
I have done a few really bad diagrams and have more ideas, I just thought it would be nice to collect other peoples thoughts and hopefully inspire a developer. I am not suggesting a replacement for the built in file explorer or something with all the functions of resco, just something that looks good, like the upcoming calendar app, that allows you to get where you want to go easily and perform a defined action when you are there.
I hope that made a bit of sense, apologies if not.
Must be a really dumb idea.

Because you are impatient and no one jumped on your thread? Relax and give it time.
as finger friendly file exlores go then gsfinder+ is pretty easy to havigate and copy/cut/paste files around with
not that that will ever make be stop using totalcommander
i like that idea
if no one takes it up, i'll definately give it a shot - provided i get the time to do it.
i'll dig up this thread after couple of weeks and check if anybody has taken it up.
Good Idea
I'm starting to play around with development stuff right now, and I'll probably work on all kinds of new finger friendly apps. Right now I'm creating an extremely simple picture preview program that has finger functionality like the iPhone picture viewer. Obviously we can't do the multitouch stuff, but swiping one way or another goes forward or back through the pictures in that folder, and sliding your finger up and down zooms in or out. That's it, no other fancy stuff that the other picture viewers have. I just want this to be used to view photos on my phone, not for editing or anything. I don't know if anything like that is around, I've never seen it, and I wanted something to mess around with, so I gave it a try. I've only been working on it for half a day so far, but it's almost finished. Any interest in that? I might make a thread for it.
Anyway, if all goes well I'll definitely be interested in taking on a few other projects to help make our devices more finger friendly.
Sounds real Good, Goodluck with it!
its a great ideia,
only need to be a clean and light app, or no one will use it....
i hate need to use total commander with my fingers, thanks god my fingers are realy small
I am so pleased there is some interest in the idea, every time I use PCM I imagine it with files instead of contacts and I think how cool it would be to have a set of filters for my files, it would be the ultimate launcher really. I hope someone can pick up the idea and run with it. I just have millions of ideas and no way to make them reality. Ahh, a rose from a dream.
it sounds great.
Interestingly, this could possibly be the most useful of the finger friendly apps if it's done because the current file explorer may be the least finger friendly builtin app(with the possible exception of a web browser, but I think opera's already working on that), but no one's attempted it yet
Check out this contact manager.
http://www.iwindowsmobile.com/contact-manager.html
Dont know if its me, I find it looking like PocketCM. With a different theme but with a small additional feature, call history
I agree with you. It's way too similar... and they're developing a "sms chat"... I saw that before right here on the forums...
Would be a nasty abuse of tene's hard work. He did the work, he deserves the money!!
IMHO tene's version is still a lot better, but it does indeed look like theft.
I saw on their site they're develloping easy-type as well, which might be similar to PocketCM keyboard! If so... a bloody shame!

Well, maybe I'll play against myself, but as long as they don't use my binaries, that's fine. It seems to me that's another implementation of the same ideas, and I don't own the ideas.
Did anyone tried it? is it good? for 19.95$ I hope it is
haven't tried it, why pay when i can use your version free
I gave this one a shot
Although there is no novelty as far the idea is concerned, the implementation is quite good!
Heres the difference between tene's version and this one :
1:> One tab assigned to Call Logs
2:> Animations are slightly different (Flip up/down instead of Flip Left/Right in tene's version)
3:> Setting a contact as a favourite is extremely easy
(On the contact detail screen , there is a star..you just have to select that star to set the contact as favourite..IMHO this is easier/quicker than two taps approach in tene's version)
4:> Animation seems slightly faster and even browsing through the alphabet index is very quick
5:> No support for SMS chats
Most important difference IMHO is that contacts can be edited/deleted through this app. This is a very nice feature as it allows you to change user information be it contact number/address/name etc. using its own input method/panel (Although creating contacts is still via normal way)
All in all,a good effort..but I wouldnt like to pay for this one especially when a free alternative is available and that too a very good alternative .Nevertheless,I would expect tene to give a look in to the features for his next version (if theres gonna be one)
I'll continue
6:> About 1,4mb installation
7:> Pretty slow to boot
8:> Weirdest built in keyboard ever.
9:> Much more fluid in use than pocketcm. (wizard)
10:> Scrolling works much better (slows down and accelerates more like an iphone)
you can download a trial version...
personal opinion, it sucks compared to tene's CM...
the only advantage is that it has a call log which probably tene can easily add.
- pictures do not show on the initial phonebook list
- also phone numbers do not show
- pager numbers do not show on contact details (i'm a doctor and use very frequently)
- no sms (my favorite part in tene's CM)
- you can only sort by either first, company or last name (CM you have an option to sort by city, category, company, sms....)
- comes in only one boring theme - (there are some excellent themes out there for CM and i like to change every few days)
- doesn't have the search option.
- address doesn't show in contact details (you have to press a button which takes you to the built-in contact manager for the address and more details!)
the list goes on and on...
so, NO way would I pay 20$ for that software... even if it was for free and I had to pay for Tene's CM I would still prefer tene's CM, his software is far more superior.
lol @ the built-in keyboard
I'll add:
11:> PCM looks much nicer not to mention PCM can use themes. Funcontact can't.
12:> PCM has a lot more features (although that's also exactly the same thing I hate about PCM.. it's starting to become bloatware). Funcontact works.. it does what it needs to do in a convenient and fast way.
13:> No support for landscape (it doesn't flip even if you slide the keyboard). It stays in portrait no matter what. It's good in a way because it keeps the app stable, unlike PCM which starts to screw up whenever I slide my keyboard out to type SMS.
14:> It caches everything on memory on program start
15:> So far, it's very stable
16:> It uses the WM GUI for sending messages
Well, maybe I'll play against myself, but as long as they don't use my binaries, that's fine. It seems to me that's another implementation of the same ideas, and I don't own the ideas.

If you take a peek at the BMPs for the app. they show Call and End icons plus many others, waiting to be switched on!
It's been said already that there is development planned for SMS chat and a better keyboard (their current one is BIZZARE!).
I've put it on my phone to do a comparison and it does seem faster (once it's loaded). This might be inpart due to the lack of fades and zooms between some screens.
I like the contact detail screen and the simple option to SMS to any number. Very nice deign, but then it should be...they pay professional designers to do the work.
The switch to view the contact in the Windows app is almost INSTANT! so no worries for me about a lack of address.
Given some layout options and skins and maybe 6 months to develop, it could be excellent.
Does use a lot of RAM to run though and I miss the filter option at the moment. Like I say thgouh, time will tell which app comes out on top.
I'm very much looking forward to Tene's next release, due soon. If he's got any sense (and he has), some of the nice little touches may well find their way into PocketCM
Oh yes, if you want the Vito icons for your PocketCM theme, you know where to go ;-)
As some have noted, PocketCM is free. However, that should not stop you from supporting Quentin's (Tene's) hard work and donate *something* so that he CAN continue to support and refine it with your direct suggestions.
G.
Hey, I also tested this "funcontact".
Its not bad, and looks also nice, but the scrolling didnt work well on my prophet... PCM does...
I prefer PCM because it can handle my SMS and there are possibilities to customize.
The only thing better in funcontact is the callLog.
PS.: It looks really like PCM, but its not the orignial.

Wow, how secret is this. Need to register at Handango to download a trial that expires after 2 minutes, YES in words: TWO MINUTES.
And it comes as .msi file that requires .NET 3.5
Hell that's a challenge to try this thing out.
Hopefully it will not be considered as warez if I attach the cab here.

Yes. It will be considered as Warez to attach here since Handango needs registration to download this file which is mandatory as per their policy. Removing the attachment from here and please refrain from re-attachment else its bansville
Its like XDA needing registration to post something in here
Hey
I just tested the app.
I think the scrolling is not that best, or I m even doing wrong.
But I like the feature to assign Applications to the Buttons.
So You have the 4 buttons ( home, back, call, end ), and
you can assign 4 Apps to its touchpanel.
So we can map a Taskmanager to a Button.
Maybe someone can test the scrolling, and tell his results
greets doena
I attached the trial .cab file for everyone (without windows, .NET, etc) to try...
For me the program works good. The scrolling feature will help a lot of us, who can't easily find the directional buttons...
I HAVE POSTED A WARNING JUST 2 POSTS ABOVE YOURS. IF ANYONE CANT UNDERSTAND WHAT IT MEANS PM ME AND I'LL EXPLAIN. DO NOT POST THE CAB FILES HERE, HANDANGO DOESNT NEED XDA TO ACT LIKE MIRRORS. NEXT ATTACHMENT HERE WILL SEND THIS THREAD TO CLOSURE AND NON OBEYING MEMBER TO BANSVILLE

Yes, the scrolling through G-Sensor is not the best experience in my opinion too. I tested this in TotalCommander and contacts list. It's too slow for me.
But the swipe scroll works quite fine. It's like a whole page down every swipe.

Understood. Thanks and sorry!
It works fine for me, but it doesn't work for games (I tested it with Gstunt).... Maybe future releases will solve the problem...
I tried it for the 2 minutes it was worth. The scrolling is really just one movement up or down at a time...not really kinetic scrolling. It was a little tricky to get it on and off also (waiting to feel the vibration of it comin to life). I may buy it though...for the price I'll play with it...it does keep your figners off of the screen.
I played with the demo this morning instead of doing work.
Not bad with the scrolling, although it does not recognize 100% of the finger swipes. I couldn't get tap and tilt to work at all. And the slide over the center key was glitchy.
What I really would prefer is an app that will scroll up and down just by me tapping, but not clicking, the screen. It seems Gscroll could add that feature pretty easily.
The demo cab is available at the programmer's website, so it is neither "warez" nor is there any need to post it here. The website is www.mobilesrc.com.
Similar issues for me...
For the money, it's a reasonable piece of software, but useablility... it's not that good in my opinion. As mentioned above, it's far too slow. One 'swipe' moves one item in the list. It needs to be kinetic like a finger swipe on the screen. And it's not that responsive to touch. Sometimes it'll respond OK, other times it ignores my touch on the pad.
Great idea... needs a little more work
^is this guy for real, or what?
didn't he see the 2 posts from the mod in this thread?
well, look like the thread will be closing soon.
Hi,
is it possible to decrease the sensitivity of wiping right and left? I mean if you wipe from the middle to the right or to the left until the screen moves to the next page...
Normally these are only some millimeters. If you are selecting mails in inbox I often swipe to sms and all my selected mails are deselected again.
I think there have to be some kind of registry key for that...

Sorry, but you're basically saying that because you can't use something correctly then you want it to change to suit you??
Just give it a bit of time and you'll get used to it. TouchFLO has been around for a couple of years now (at least - it may have been round for longer!) and I've NEVER heard anyone say anything that even resembles what you're saying.
I'm not having a go - honestly, and I certainly don't want to start any bad vibes here, but you are talking about user error. Sorry mate, but it's that simple.
Persevere mate. Just get used to how it functions and you'll be fine.
Sorry too, but what stupid talking! Would you say that any tweaks in this forum is because users are too stupid to you their devices as designed and all of these changes you can do with WM are senseless?
This is not my first WM device and even not the first one with Sense or TF3D.
What about the discussion about screen sensitivity. They are all stupid using their devices, right?
So...

You're kidding, right? My software and devices should conform to my lifestyle, I shouldn't have to conform to it. I purchase devices and software because they fit my needs, not because the software forces me to change my habits. This is the very cornerstone of consumer choice, and I find it hard to believe that you'd honestly think otherwise.

Is there a possibility to view in the main screen 2 individual time settings? I travel a lot and this can help me see just by touching the mobile what is the time at home compared to the location one.
By opening some application it is just inpractical so is there some way to just add a small time next to the big one?

For this you can use old version (2.0) or something of SPB Time. Earlier version used to come with today Plugin which can be used for multiple location times. However it'll be helpful only if you are not using TouchFlo as your today application.
