These are 2 different phones with also a different O.S. installed. The omnia HD has Simbian instead Touch HD Win Mobile. However as regards the screen, the Omnia has a lower resolution than the Touch hd (640x360 vs 800x480) but the former has an Oled screen (which is a little more luminous and with more vivid colors) instead the latter has a classical TFT.
In my opinion the touch HD is still (and for a while) unbeatable.
Really the best phone I've ever had!!!
too cool, versatile and professional!!

Video performance -a HUGE let down?

I tested the video performance, and compared it with my three handhelds (HTC Touch Pro, HTC Universal and Samsung Omnia.)
Test performed on a 3 min music video (480x640, 25 fps, 44100 Hz, 574 kbit/s), with coreplayer 1.2.5, and optimal settings for each device:
Omnia:
Raw framebuffer: 442.74%
Universal:
Direct Draw: 165.28%
Touch Pro:
QTv display: 152.44%
Smooth Zoom and Dither turned off on each device!
So in conclusion, Omnia wins by a huge 277.46% over the next best device that is the Universal. And even then the Universal is 12.84% better then the Touch Pro!
Please bare in mind that the Universal is a three years old device with only 64MB ram, while Touch pro is brand new and 288MB ram! They have same clock speed but Touch pro is supposed to have a better/newer chipset then the Universal!
There is no doubt in my mind anymore, Touch pro is missing the video drivers, or could it just be that qualcomm chipset just sucks?
Why am I posting this here? Well, becouse I was considering buying the HD, but sense it has the same specs as the Touch Pro and even bigger resolution screen, I just dont know! I fear that it is going to be as crappy in performance as the TP, if not even worse?
Please help me out here guys!
Touch Pro ?
Coreplayer does not yet have hardware support for the QTV chipset in HTC Touch HD. It will get soon however according to this thread and then the performance will improve a lot.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=446620&highlight=coreplayer
Also the built-in Windows Media Player uses hardware acceleration. It is a bit limited in the codecs it support however.

I currently have, an omnia, an iPhone, a TyTN II, & 3x Touch HD's( long story) but I find video playback on just looks alone the iphone looks the best ( bear in mind you have to convert video for the iphone though as in it can't play your standard xvid files). Touch HD would be my overall winner because on looks alone it is very close to the iphone but it plays files converted for the iphone as well as xvid & divx movies. Depending on the movie I have noticed some caching but if you follow the sticky you can clear this up. The Omnia follows but imho the video quality is not as good as the HD, not to mention I had quite a few problems with mines with a total of 8x replacements not to mention the weekly rom updates thanks to secany, but overall the HD is the best phone I've had so far.

HTC Firestone - new images!

http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http://hitech.sanook.com/technology/news_12626.php
Enjoy - looks like a decent successor to Touch HD!
The real successor to the HD will probably be the HTC Leo/Superstar. The Firestone seems to be settled between the Superstar and the Diamond 2. Unfortunately there's no picture of the Superstar yet. All we know is that it will have the nVidia Tegra chip with 600MHz processor, a 3.8" display and 512MB ROM/ 256MB RAM.
Naaa! It isn't a decent successor to HD: only CPU 600Mhz and maybe new Manila.
If I'll buy a new phone after HD it will be a turning point device not a restyling..

I love my HD, but I´m guessing the omnia II will be my next.
I really hate the HTC camera, I got better videos and photo with my old 2mp Nokia. I read that the Firestone may have the same small lens problem with the camera.

[Q] Why HVGA

Hello new to the forum and just got my new HD mini a few days ago. I have seen many post about the HVGA resolution and app compatibility. But cold some one tell me why it is HVGA? I mean my old I-Mate Ultimate 6150 has a 2.8in screen and a resolution of 640 x 480. So why does the Mini have 320 X 480?
BTW I love my new Mini.
HVGA eats battery less
and a bit cheaper for HTC to build
hmmm..i'm not agree about battery thing..it drains pretty fast
So is it the screen itself that is not capable of higher resolutions or is it software?
The first one.
Thank you for the info. Can you explain why?

[Q] HTC Legend dsiplay changed from AMO LED to LCD?

Hai everyone
just now i saw htc india website
showing htc legend as 8.12cm TFT LCD
320*480 OLED 262K display
http://www.htc.com/in/product/legend/specification.html
But in GSM arena specification it showed as
AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors
320 x 480 pixels, 3.2 inches
http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_legend-3141.php
They're both OLED screens.
but in gsmarena showed as 16M colors
htc india showed as 262K colors
Probably just a typo by GSM Arena.
I believe the 1st and 2nd wave of Legends came with Amoled displays, after that they went to the LCD display
Ps: I think their now using sonys SLCD displays due to samsungs expensive amoleds...i could be wrong though

Actually you are correct. Amoled shortages. Both legend and desire models have switched to tft in some, if not all markets.

I see a steep price drop in India is panel is changed to cheaper 256K colours ...
Is there an easyish way to tell which you have?

they just mentioned shortage for 3.7 inch screens for the desire ... no one mentioned the legend ..

That is because Legend don't use 3.7". The AMOLED shortage was announce months ago.

Take a picture and see how the pixels are mapped
Wasn't the legend discontinued by Bell in august because of screen shortage or something?

I compared my silver (release date) legend with my girlfriends phantom black legend and you can see the difference very good.
The new screen is much much brighter and black is much darker.
I also think it consumes less power, cause her battery doesn't drain that fast compared to mine according to the battery stats.
My question is, can we replace our amoled display with the newer display ?
Why would you want to do that amoled is superior to the normal tft in many ways... except for the battery life

That's Sony's Super LCD... not a regular tft. It's only on the desire and the nexus not the legend.
Also the article you provided compares the desire's amoled which has a pen tile distribution of pixels hence the loss in the sharpness and colour rendering. The legend's screen has a normal RGB distribution.
And read the entire article. Amoled gave better results and better battery performance. What more do you want ?

Amoled with 3,2"
I had Desrire but now have Legend and I'm sure that's AMOLED display with 3,2 inches. Look this site in old Yugoslavia: http://mobilnisvet.com/mobilni/2502/HTC/Legend
I'm curious to know which type I've got now.

Really contemplating between Optimus G Pro and HTC One

Hi everyone,
I recently purchased the Optimus G Pro, and am really enjoying using it. The screen is gorgeous, with high PPI, and it's 5.5" in size, which makes my gaming experience that much greater. Having come from the Iphone 5, I am really happy with the screen, customizability etc... I also like the fact that you can install custom roms on Android devices, albeit not the G Pro.
Anyways, my dilemma is that I really want to get the HTC One, but can't justify spending an extra $2-300 to upgrade from my G Pro (In Korea, used G pro's are about $2-300 cheaper than HTC On'es).
In my opinion, the following are some pros and cons of moving to the One, can anyone add any other points?
PROS:
custom roms! (really big in my book)
higher PPI (I am all about HD)
really nice camera
awesome design, and not too big
CONS:
smaller screen
higher PPI, but lower megapixels (or ultrapixels i should say), resulting in lower HD video recording quality
phone gets hot under heavy use? Can someone provide more detail about this?
no physical home button (I like physical buttons, in my opinion they are MUCH less finicky than soft keys)
no DMB (DMB is a free TV broadcasting system in Korea, that is equipped with most cellphones)
Thanks!
John
Ok well it's up to what you really want in your smartphone. But the HD recording in the HTC is excellent, probably better than the g pro because they both capture 1080p video so same resolution but bigger pixels = more light, better night preformance, HDR video etc. make it superior. It does get hot, as it's aluminum body conducts heat but never worryingly so. Also any difference in ppi doesn't really matter as at that level it's just a placebo if you notice a big improvement. Sense vs LGs monstrosity is your call though. Also I don't know what the pros battery life is but take that into account too. Hope I helped

I had a Pro for some time. I personally couldn't handle the damn thing. It was far to awkward to use and the LG software is hideous. The one surpasses it IMHO. Remember, it's what I felt but everyone will think differently.
Sent from my One using xda app-developers app
The higher PPi won't really make much of a difference. In my opinion the Optimus makes better use of the Full HD screen. On 4.7inches its hard to notice the difference between a 720 and a 1080p screen.
