Need help... - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

i have a t-mobile mda wizard and every time i plug it in to my pc it says device not recognized but it charges and everything... i just bout a new cradle and everything but no dice on it connecting and im running windows xp... help will be appreciated

Right click the activesync button in your toolbar and open connection setting. Click connect device. It will try to connect. If it won't, the best thing is to go thru the help thing. Do you have a custom rom?

active sync do not work
Hi there, i heard some days ago (a friend who ask me for help, unloking wizard to change ROM) and his WIZARD was not able to get recognized by PC it was a bad contact between USB conectors and cable, so he sent phone to repairs and then he was able to sync and then to migrate from WM5 to WM6.1
perhaps is a connectors trouble.....

What version of Activesync are you using? If it's 4.5, you should be good to go. I have seen problems with older versions.
Also, check Activesync on your phone. Make sure you don't already have two accounts created, because that's the limit on your phone.
If not, try different USB Cables and different USB ports (or test those things on a different device with microUSB connection) before assuming the connector on the phone is bad.

as far as i know the phone is completely factory no upgrades or anything i tried to do the connect thing thru active sync where it looks for my phone still no connection and i bought a new cradle and usb cords all together and it still doesn't work...

JasJar USB connection problem - please help

I 'suddenly' am unable to have my JasJar connected to Activesync. I have been successfully connecting the last two weeks and did not cahange anything to the PC's set-up.
I killed my antivirus and have no firewall software running.
I have a direct USB connection to my Laptop (no usb hub).
I have tried both Activesync V4.0 and V4.1.
I have deleted all partnerships to get a fresh start.
I have also tried to delete the PPC in the PC's device manager and connect again (I did notice the PPC was listed under the network adapters only, nothing was listed under the USB section).
Nothing seems to help and I am really desperate since I can not sync anything anymore now.
Any suggestions are more than welcome !
Thansk in advance,
Paul
have you tried another PC ? at least this way you can be sure that everything is ok .
I am travelling and will not have any access to another PC before the WE.... I did try another cable but got not lucky..
It does seem to work on another PC.
Anybody any suggestion as to what else I could try to make it work again?
firewall?, thats my pain on my work lappy, i have to vpn into work and that blocks my JJ, i get connecting but no connected, all i can do is disconnect from work which then opens the activesync ports back up. check 7438 and 5679 on your firewall
After a week with AS 4.0 I suddenly found that the only way I could get it to work was to soft reset the Jas Jar while connected. I'm guessing you've already tried that though...
yer, i forgot to say, i can only sync when my JJ has been off for 10+ seconds, if on i get a uab device error if off i connect no problems, this kinda leads me to think that the usb port is in a different mode when on to when on standby, but the usb hosting of devices appears not to be the reason

I have the same problem. Get a kind of "USB not recognized" when the jasjar is on/open".
I close the Jasjar after having taken the USB out of course.
Then, after a while ( You say 10 seconds) it works fine and Activesync starts the job.
I can live with it. No soft reset needed.
Very positive to me is the fact that I can also connect to a USB HUB. So no need to plu it directly in my portable.
After connection I can open my little toy. (Gush how I love this thing)
Huib
Yes I have the same problem I only synk when the jasjar is turned off. Most probably one of the reasons apart from firewall issus is office 2003. They said to me from club-imate support that we need the newest office 2003 with sp1.

Help with I-Mate (XDAII)

Hello,
I'm currently trying to get a second hand I-Mate syncing with ActiveSync using a USB cradle. Everything else works fine, with the exception of a USB sync. When my I-Mate cradle is plugged in via USB, and the powered-on I-Mate is placed in the cradle, a Windows device message appears stating "USB Device Not Recognized". This happened with another I-Mate I was able to try and on multiple computers with multiple cradles. I'm quite baffled. I've tried verstions 3.7, 3.8 and 4.0 of ActiveSync.
I would really like to get the USB cradle working so I can try WM2005 and not have to xfer software to the I-Mate over my GRPS connection
Thanks in advance.
-Chris.
Hi Chris.
That certainly is odd since you've tried multiple ActiveSync versions on multiple PCs with multiple i-Mates!
What OS are the PCs running?
Normally when you first connect the i-mate via the cradle after installing ActiveSync, XP will launch the Add Hardware Wizard, which should find the drivers as ActiveSync installs them.
I have heard that reverting from ActiveSync 4 to 3.x can cause problems, but if you started with 3.7 & worked up from there, that isn't your issue.
Can you launch ActiveSync manually via Start - All Programs etc.?
Perhaps check the XP driver-signing policy - maybe it's stopping the driver from installing. I'd normally suggest trying a different USB port, but trying another PC covers that one .
Good luck - I know this one would annoy the hell out of me too!

The PCs that I've tried have been running XP. My work machine SP1 while my home machine SP2.
I tried disabling the windows firewall in SP2 to no avail. The two other units I tried were in various states of order so that could be contributing to the issue.
The touchscreen is unresponsive on one while the other is stuck showing serial information (both issues I've found out how to resolve reading this forum, that'll make 2 more functional I-Mates!)
I have since completley removed ActiveSync from my PC at home. When I place my I-Mate into the cradle, no windows device messages appear and when I go into the device manager the I-Mate isn't even seen anymore.
I might just cut my losses and go cough up $40 for a usb bluetooth adapter for the desktop and sync that way. I'd rather not do this as I don't believe I can upgrade the ROM via bluetooth, and I'd very much like to throw WM2005 on one of these puppies, providing I can even get that far.
Ok, so a good majority will probably hate me after this.
My sync problem was caused by me not using a 5v power adapter. Yes, it was that simple. My power adapter looks like some kind of alien as it's being converted with 3 devices to conform to standard 110v north american AC. It was purchased for European users originally.
BUT, here's my saving grace. The I-Mate I was playing with won't sync via USB, it will do bluetooth and even serial but not usb???
Even more annoying is the unit I'm now using has an annoying issue with the touchscreen. If I receive a call or take care of any other incoming data activity, the screen freezes. I will not be able to use the touch screen until the battery is taken out. Very annoying, to the point I'm using the bluetooth unit. It's got the latest firmwares of the units (1.72wwe, 1.14 radio, 1337.38 for g (general?) bluetooth unit has 1,66wwe, 1.10 radio and 1337.2x for g) ...haha, sorry I thought that one was awesome and very fitting for a faulty device... just not the right number for a release...

Jam not recognised by windows/activesync

Hi Guys,
New to the ppc scene, so please be gentle!
I've had a search through the forum, and can't find the answer to my problem, so please help me, if you can.
I have just been given an imate jam by my dad, his old work phone. It hasn't been used for approximately 6 months, so I had to charge the battery (and back up battery) to get it up and running.
Now I've got it charged up and switched on I've encountered a problem:
When I connect my Jam to my PC (XP Pro) it lights up the charge LED but then nothing, no installing drivers or anything. When I start activesync it doesn't see the Jam, when I go to device manager on my pc it's not there.
The Jam has also reset itself a few times, so I was thinking I should upgrade/reflash the software - but I can't do that when the PC doesn;t see the Jam.
Have I missed something, done something stupid or is the Jam knackered? Any help would me muchos appreciated
Many thanks in advance.
My device is an imate jam, details below:
ROM Version: 1.03.00 WWE
ROM Date: 11/01/04
Radio Version: 1.01.00
Protocol Version: 1337.38
Ext ROM Version: 1.03.163 WWE
Not sure if this helps anyone help me with my problem, but thought the more information the better!
Thanks in advance for you help
Check your connection settings in ActiveSync.
Ok, I've just tried the settings you suggested, though for some reason I can only select COM4?? I'm using activesync version 4.1.4841.0
When I try and connect I get the error shown in the attached image
Although some have had luck with AS4.x, others as well as myself have experienced that it doesn't work very well with the Magician. Use AS3.8 and it works flawlessly.
ok, I've changed to activesync v3.8 and still no joy - it just goes in circles looking for the device on COM4
I'm showing:
COM1 Not Installed
COM2 Not Installed
COM4 Available
Infrared Port Not Installed
USB USB is Available
This is driving me crazy!!
Normally when the magician is plugged in to the usb port, windows should recognize this and go through the usual driver installation procedure. If not disconnect the magician, switch off all settings in AS and reboot your PC. After the PC has booted and you logged-in, connect the magician to a different usb port. If the windows plug+play install routine does not appear, go to control panel and add the device manually. Once the device is added, then put back your settings in AS.
ok, 2 reboots later!!
when I connect it (on a different port) all that happens is the LED goes Orange to indicate that its charging - no drivers are installed.
When I go to Add Hardware it can't find the Jam (tried changing the port) and if I go to device manager its not there (not even with a ! Warning next to it).
I'm now trying to add it from a list, but I can't find imate or HTC in the list of manufacturers.
I'm totally stumped, this is insane!
Any more ideas?
Try hard resetting the magician then check AS settings in the magician also.
I've done a hard reset and rebooted my pc again, still nothing, even when I try and add it manually.
I've even tried connecting in bootloader mode, but that won't work either!
Could it be a hardware fault? Or more likely a software thing?
Not being recognised
Hi
I had the same problem today, it turned out to be a faulty cable(brand new spare). I used a different cable and all is good.
I've now tried 3 different cables, 2 latops and a desktop PC and am having the same problem no matter what - I reckon my Jam's screwed up somehow!
Take a look on the connector, try to clean it(with alcohol preferably and with battery out of jam). You have to have AS installed before you connect the jam to pc for the first time, otherwise it will cause problems. Did you try BT connection to active sync? Did it work? Did your dad experience these problems too?
Ok, there's definately a problem with my device.
I can pair it up via BT and transfer files etc, but as soon as I connect with Activesync I get the same error message as I posted earlier in this thread.
I've tried cleaning the mini-usb port (battery out) with alcohol, still no joy.
Spoke to my dad, says he never used activesync, just used it as a phone and a sat nav, nothing more.........
Starting to get really wound up by this now. Unless anyone has any other ideas (dropping it from a great height??!!) I think I'm gonna have to send it to a repair centre for them to have a look at it
i had an intermittent problem like this wherw windows would say a USB device connected to the system was malfunctioning etc..
It cleared up after a while donno why... when uve connected the JAM, wiggle the connector around a bit and see if anything happens....
The message you get is not necesarilly caused by faulty device, I got that message many times before I was able to properly configure my active sync over BT.
the cable supplied with imate jam looks like a normal mini usb cable but its not.
its different then the mini usb cable. You cant use a mini usb cable (from ur camera, card reader etc.) with your imate jam.
Once I used my camera mini usb cable with imate jam and i got the same error which omhaigh is having. Netither Windows recognize my imate jam nor activesync. I plugged in my imate jam cable and it was all good again.
In short, you need cable supplied with imate jam to connect it with pc.
The Magician's USB cable is a standard one. I've been using various USB cables on my laptop. home desktop, and office PC without any problems.
yeah, it is completley standard, ive used 5 different cables and all work,
I've now tried a whole host of PC's and Laptops at work, using several mini usb cable and bluetooth (both built in and dongle on different machines) following the advice above and in the BT active sync thread.
No matter what I do (including cleaning the ports with alcohol etc) I get no joy what so ever, and always end up with the same result!!
I've read that connecting the device to a pc before installing activesync can cause problems.......I'm starting to think that perhaps my dad's done that and either can't remember or is too embarrassed to admit it! Is there a fix if this is what has happened?
I'm guessing its gonna have to go to a repair centre

Please give suggestions for fixing 8125

So here is my problem I have an 8125 that will not sync. It WILL charge via usb but no matter what I try it won't connect. I've done a hard reset and tried every version of activecync. Everything on the phone works fine and I can install apps via an SD card. I want to unlock and upgrade the phone. The phone is in really good shape otherwise.
At this point I can only assume it's hardware related but I really want to unlock it and upgrade. So here are my questions:
1. Can I install new usb drivers from an sd card? And since the phone is locked will it even allow me to do that?
2. can I unlock the phone without a usb connection? (bluetooth or from SD card)
3. Can I upgrade from an SD card image?
I keep hoping one of these will cause the USB to start working. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Post your IPL/SPL, GSM and OS. Are you using wm5 or wm6? Also try hooking the usb cable on the back of the mobo on actual ports if you din't try . Also What Windows are you using? XP or Vista
Thanks nycelitemaster,
I'm using XP (always forget to include taht in original post)
I'll have to post IPL & SPL when I get home (It's a G3).
I didn't know there were ports on back of the MB. Can you point me to a guide that would show me how to access them?
Thanks!
OK I found a .pdf with disassembly instructions but I do not see a port on the motherboard. Am I looking for a mini-usb port or another type?
He just meant don't use a USB hub, hook the cable to a usb port on the back or front of your computer. Try changing USB ports also, sometimes they decide they don't want to work on one USB port but if you switch it to another one it will.
maybe it's outlook?
if you're able to charge, then the usb is probably working. Check to see if you can access the files on your phone when you are connected to activesync. if so, then perhaps the problem is with outlook (i'm assuming you're using outlook to sync). i've had problems where outlook would not work after flashing my phone a few times. it's supposedly some sort of error in programming (i think i read it on the microsoft site or some other random forum when i was looking into the problem).
try uninstalling outlook and reinstalling it, then try to setup your sync connection with the computer. it might work afterwards (it did in my case). Also if you are a bit paranoid, try to find the pim information in outlook and make a backup of that file in case it gets deleted in the whole uninstall/reinstall process.

I should have been more clear when I used the term "sync". I am unable to browse files on the phone via usb. I tried putting it in bootloader mode and upgrading firmware but no luck.
Check your firewall settings.
A search on Google may help provide you which ports to forward through your firewall to allow ActiveSync to communicate with your Wizard.
ActiveSync 4.x requires the following Winsock Transmission Control Protocols (TCP) to be available:
• 990 (RAPI)
• 999 (Status)
• 5721 (DTPT)
• 5678 (Legacy Replication)
• 5679 (Handshake & Legacy Replication)
• 26675 (Airsync)
Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm starting to think it's hardware related. When I put the phone in bootloader mode and plug it into usb I don't see"usb" in the bottom left corner. On my MDA I DO see "USB" in the left corner.

Activesync Help!!! Can't figure this out

Alright so I've done quite a bit of searching but I can't figure this out and its really frustrating me. I have mfrazz's Windows Mobile 6 release 3 installed.
Rom version: 10.1.0.811 WWE
Rom Date: 8/11/06
Radio Version: 02.25.11
Protocol Version 4.1.13.12
My problem is that activesync will not recognize my MDA no matter what I do. I've hard reset my phone, installed and uninstalled activesync 4.5 a bunch of times. Done this on two different computers, but when I plug the mda in, nothing happens at all. I plug my roomate's MDA in (running a different rom) and it instantly recognizes the phone and begins to sync. I really want to try different roms out, but without an activesync connection I can't. Any ideas guys?
Thanks...
ps. Let me know if this should be in the WM6 forum, I wasn't sure.
Well, this problem has been discussed hundreds of time in the forum, just read through the forum,I'm sure you'll find answer to your problem easily, there was no need to start a new thread,or just hit the 'Search' tab at the top of this very page and enter 'Activesync Problems'.
Cheers!
Thanks for the feedback-
It seems like I've read every single thread related to this problem, but in almost all of those their phone is at least recognized by activesync. With mine, even after disabling all firewalls and doing all the suggestions in the other threads, I just can't get activesync to even recognize my phone
If you still can't sync at someone else's computer, you probably have a bad USB cable, or worse, a bad connector. Try a different cable (any USB to micro should work, they aren't specially wired or anything). If that's no help, try blowing out the connector jack on the phone (use a magnifying glass or ? to look for debris, too). If that's no help, you may be screwed. You can try these guys, but it'll be expensive (like, replace my phone expensive): http://www.drcellphone.com/index.php
Are you at least getting a charge light (solid amber) when you plug in?
Yea, it charges just fine and I get the solid amber light and everything. I use the same cable to sync my roomates' mda, so that isn't the issue. I'm really stumped. Im almost positive its something with the specific rom I have on my phone..
I've been forcing it into bootloader mode to try to flash any other rom onto it (I figure if i can just get ANY rom on it... official tmobile, or a cooked rom, etc. then the sync problem should go away) but I'm having troubles there too.
You're not trying to do this with a Vista computer, are you? There are known problems syncing with Vista-based PCs.
If you use Mozilla Thunderbird at all, you can try using FinchSync, just to see if the hardware is functioning properly. This is theoretical, though. I haven't tried this myself, so I can't offer much on FinchSync.
Nope, I first tried it with 3 different XP computers and then for the hell of it tried it with Vista. No go with either one. I've pretty much convinced myself that it is the rom I have on my phone (mfrazz's Windows Mobile 6 release 4) because I never used to have any problems whatsoever
mmj12345
OK, let's take stock of things. I'm assuming that you are using XP.
Check in activesync :
File -> Connection Settings
Make sure "Allow USB connections" is checked.
'Uncheck' the 'advanced network functionality' in the phone.
Start -> Settings -> Connections tab -> USB to PC
If that still doesn't work, I'd try the uninstall, reboot, reinstall activesync and see if that helps any.
I'd also be suspecting the usb cable/ mini usb port of the phone. Recharging a device and getting a data connection are two different things. I have a k-jam that would charge via the USB cable, but would not sync, XP kept complaining about an unknown device. Turned out it was a broken connector in the mini usb port of the phone. It maybe that usb cable connector is not making proper connection with the connector of mini usb port of the phone, try to 'wriggle' the usb cable plug a little and check if it tries to make a connection, while connecting to the phone, sometimes it helps.
Cheers!
I've made sure everything you suggested is correct. I didn't know that charging and data connection are two different things. I figure that if it charges, it should sync. The USB port on my MDA is really loose, and I can only get a charge when I plug in the charger and "push" the plug to the right an hold it there (usually by twisting the cord around the phone in a way that keeps the pressure on the USB socket). So now that you mention that, I'm just guessing that it charges but its so loose that I probably won't ever get it to sync again.
Hmm..
Is there any way at all to flash without an activesync connection? I tried flashing a bunch of roms by forcing the phone into bootloader and then running the RUU, but it always fails because it says I don't have an activesync connection...
Nopes !
You got to have connection with phone through usb cable.Get the mini usb port of the phone repaired or replaced, only then it can establish connection and flash a rom.
Cheers!
Alright, thanks a lot for all of your help! Looks like maybe I'll take the phone apart and see if I can actually see any disconnection on the main board, etc. Not sure if I'll try to make a repair attempt myself because I've read that the solder contact points are pretty small
