I have just signed up to mail2wb push service and have so far got my contacts sync and emails are working, Push is great but my emails are not saving on my device, when I check mail2web exchange online they are their.
Is this how mail2web setup works or can the emails be saved to device too?
My emails are stored on the device using mail2web, your must have something wrong in your setup I guess...
Inside mail2web control panel go to "Free Services" --> "Mail2Web Live" --> "ActiveSync Settings" and you can download a CAB file with your default configuration there.
I had the sms send me the link I will try again a report back.
nope still not working downloaded the cab to my pc and copied across and installed, I send a email from device it goes to the outbox and then dispears. But it is there in my sent folder on the web.
I thought you were talking about incoming emails... sorry!
For outgoing emails, you just have to "Menu" --> "Tools" --> "Manage Folders" and Check "Sent Items" because it is not Syncronized by default, that's it
ah thanks I knew it had to be a setting thanks pof.
I feel a bit stupid here but how do I set up my vario to access mail2web exchange?
I've signed up and all seems to be ok, downloaded the CAB config file but nothing seems to have happened when I ran it!
Help?!?!?
Now when you hit the comm manager button, the email icon should not be greyed out anymore (because the cab should setup push email settings for you). Just enable directpush email with the email icon and you should start receiving emails.

Hiya ppl,
I have a strange problem on my MDA Vario II. I am losing emails sent to my pop3/imap account since I set up my mobile device to poll for email. I set up an account on the device using the email wizard and have tried collection from both pop3 and imap servers.
What I am finding is this: When I wake up in the morning I often get a notification of new email on my device, I can see the header in the notification bubble but when I try and read it I find the message has been deleted from the server.
I have my device set to poll every 15 mins. I can see no setting to leave email on the server. I do not know if the default action is to download and delete the message from the server or not.
Has anybody else experienced this? Please help!
I have tried the mail2web service but I also want to view my email on my pc with outlook. It doesn't seem that you can do that using this service.
Any help would be appreciated. TIA.
Do you have anything else checking that email address? If so, that program could be downloading and deleting your email so that your device can no longer get it.
Hi, I think this was the problem I was having awhile back too, in the mail settings do you have "get full copy of messages" enabled? if so make it "get message header only" and include "999" kb of message body, that should keep the messages on your phone untill you delete em.

@Trancecoder - only outlook, but no automatic downloading of email.
@ChaoticDruid - yes, my settings were "get full copy of messages". I didn't realise this would delete email from the server though. I have now set "get message header only" and so far so good. Is this a bug?
@Menneisyys - (wish I could work out how to pronounce your name!) wow an answer from the god himself ;-) I don't have a gmail account but the info about not downloading a full copy of the messages seems to have done the trick. Is this a bug or am I misunderstanding the operation on POutlook?
Thank you all for your help,
Shaun.
Problems still
Alas I still have problems. I am now able to retrieve unread email on both my Vario (with POutlook + "get message header only") and PC (With Outlook 2003) without it vanishing, but once read, the email vanishes from the server sometime afterwards.
I guess this must be a problem with my provider Blueyonder :-(
I still think it could be Outlook doing this. Go to Tools --> E-mail accounts --> View/edit (Next) and make sure that your IMAP/POP3 account is selected under "Deliver new e-mail to the following location".
@Trancecoder I am not sure if I understand you. In Outlook Tools --> E-mail accounts --> under "Deliver new e-mail to the following location", Personal folders is selected. I cannot see a selection for IMAP/POP3 here.
I see. I assumed it would be there because it's there for my Exchange mailbox. I guess I was wrong. Sorry about that.
No probs. I will have to disable email checking on my device until I figure this one out.
Sorted!
I have ahem fixed the problem I had with losing email. It was an ID10T error! I am too embarassed to explain what the problem was, except is was of my own doing. There was no problem with POutlook. Apologies for wasting ppl's time.
Don't apologise! I, myself am an expert supreme on these kinds of errors, however, I thought I was alone! If not for forums like this I would have given up on my pda years ago, and look at the fun I would have missed out on.
Hi all,
While I tried to keep an e-mail from being deleted (because the e-mail is no longer present at the mail server - and each time e-mails are synced the formerly restored e-mail will be deleted again) I was investigating how WM 6.5 is organizing its e-mails. As it seems the e-mails are stored in the \Windows\Messaging folder. But somewhere the OS stores information about all e-mails (e. g. in which e-mail folder they are stored) - simply copying an e-mail file (*.MPB) to the \Windows\Messaging folder does not make the system recognize it.
My idea is to make a copy of the e-mail I'm willing to keep from being deleted, change its ID (to avoid the system deleting it again) and make the system recognize it.
Thanks in advance for every helpful hint!
just forward that email to yourself....
Inbox - Menu - Tools - Options - Select your account - Send/ Receive Schedule - Advanced Settings - When deleting messages: "Keep them on the server"...
Hope that helps you...

In that case the e-mail is save from being deleted automatically, ok, but it will not be linked to the real sender but to me.
I restored this particular e-mail and copied it to the archive. So it's save, too. But will not be shown in the conversation history of the person who sent me the e-mail as well as with your solution.

Thanks but that could only avoid deleting e-mails in the future but not if an e-mail is no longer present at the server (anyway of the above mentioned "Advanced Setting").
The point is that the TD2 is synchronizing all e-mails only in one direction:
1. e-mail present at the server but not at the TD2 => download e-mail to TD2
2. e-mail not present at the server but at the TD2 => delete e-mail from TD2
Therefore I'm looking for a solution to avoid situation 2.
Thanks in advance.

Okay, I understand...
I do it that way and there arrives a copy of the incoming mails on the phone, but they stay on the server. When I arrive at home the mails are moving from server to pc, so I never lose them.
By the settings of WindowsMobileDeviceCenter I sync also the maps from received and send items and that way I have all my mails on device and on pc all the time...
I think that if you do it that way, your probs are gone...
just use windows live mail & hotmail. the sync all works perfectly and saves a lot of bother

Yeah... That's good for communication with friends and family. But I never have seen a professional giving his business card with a hotmailaddress...
I have searched for email problems but found none that describe my problem.
The problem is this.
1. Emails that have been read, but not deleted are removed from my HD2.
2. I get a notification that an email has been delivered. If i don't read that email, pick up my phone and so on. I can return to my phone knowing that i should have a message to read and find none.
I believe that what may be happening is that my emails are getting cleared down on every send/receive schedule.
Can anyone assist?
I am not saving messages to the SIM card currently.
I had that problem.
I guess that messages are deleted from hd2 when they are deleted from mail server
In other words, when you download them with computer for example, where you probably set it to: delete messages from server after they are downloaded, they are deleted from hd2 after next send,receive...
So I guess that these emails you would like to read them on your hd2 are deleted because in the mean time you or some software deleted them from email server
I find this happens if I empty the deleted items folder in Outlook on the Windows PC to which my HD2 is synched.
Disappearing email
On HTC Touch HD, when I wanted to save an email, I have deleted it. In that way it stayed preserved in the "deleted items" folder.
However, on HD2 email is disappearing from that folder also, after it has been deleted on the server.
Is there any way to save e-mails permanently on HD2? Except moving it to the "drafts" folder...

find the email options screen that lets you set the storage location, and on that page is the option to control when and how to empty the deleted items which by default is set to automatic on connect disconnect.

Thank you for your reply, samsamuel!
I have tried to find an email option screen that you are referring to, but I just don't see it anywhere.
Could you please guide me to it?

sure, from home screen go mail -inbox -menu -scroll down to tools -options switch to storage tab and there it is.
Oooops, I 've missed the scroll down part.

Ok, switched to "Manually".
What I do (just for testing purposes):
1- I'm at home and using Outlook 2003, so from one email account of mine I send a short email to THE email account which is also set up in my HD2.
2- Once I see the email has been delivered, I force my HD2 to refresh and I receive the email.
3- Now I refresh Send/Receive in my Outlook. Fine, I receive the message too.
4- Finally, I refresh again (Send/Receive) in my HD2...
5- The email I had on my HD2 screen, is gone. If I go to my InBox folder, there's nothing there.
What's wrong? Although I know the server deletes the messages, why can't my HD2 keep a message that had already been received?
Cheers,

thats because when you check the account from the mobile, it leaves a copy of the email on the server, and creates a copy in your phones inbox. When you check from Outlook on the pc, it physically downloads the email, thus removing it from the server, so when you check again from the phone, the inbox is empty.
You can alter outlook to not remove messages, but you end up with all your mail stored on your pop server, and the isp might not like it if it grows too large.

Hi there samsamuel. Thanks for your answer.
I understand this behaviour, but what I can't possibly understand is why the email is not kept in my HD2: I get the notification, I click to download it, hence, in that very moment a copy of the email is in my device. Then, why can't it be kept in my device if it was already there!?
It's fine if later on, it refreshes and it detects that there's no email in the server's inbox....but please, don't delete me the copy that I already had in my device! It has no sense!
Isn't there an option to keep these copies?
And yes, you're right, I don't want to alter my outlook, that would be a nightmare.
Cheers!
No choice for that?
Are you all happy with this email behaviour?
..I'm asking because there seems not to be a solution for this...
Up...
I'm having the same problem man... it's giving me the ****S. How do I put android on this PoS HD2?!
figured it out...
Open inbox > Menu (scroll down to tools) > Options > Click your email account > skip through all the bull**** until you get to the "Email Setup, automatic send / receive & dowload messages" drop down boxes screens, Hit "Advanced Settings", then change the 'When deleting messages:' from delete them off the server to keep them on the server.
Stupid WinMo.
Try an email account that supports IMAP. Some providers allow POP3 or IMAP so you might not have to change accounts.
I don't like the way IMAP looks in Outlook, but it works much better across several devices. I have two PCs and a couple of phones. No matter where I am, each device always reflects what is ACTUALLY in my email online. It took a little adjusting to, but I think it's much better. In Active Sync/Windows Mobile Devie Center, I no longer have Outlook set to synchronise with my device. Try signing up for a free Gmail account and try it on your phone and in Outlook on a PC and see what you think...
Somehow found what seems to be the problem...
inbox - tools - options - accounts tab - choose your account - edit account setup - click next until:
Automatic Send/Receive:
[Every 60 minutes]
Download messages:
[From past 3 days]
Change this from past 3 days to All messages and voila!
It's seems to save space by providing you only with latest e-mails. Make sure to do the Storage options mentioned earlier!
I have searched far and wide for a solution to the reply all bug, and I did find a solution on the MSDN blog.
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/outlook_mobile/archive/2006/03/22/558605.aspx
However, the "My e-mail addresses" field is grayed out for me; and the only other post I could find online was something about it being unchangeable after account creation. I experimentally found a solution, and now I'm posting it here for archival purposes.
I had this issue on WM6.5.x with the gmail exchange server in outlook mobile 2010.
To reiterate; the reply all bug will add your own email to the list of recipients when you "reply all" to an email. The fix is to tell outlook what your email is, so it knows it shouldn't send it to you (apparently the exchange setup makes this unclear; see msdn blog link above). In order to fill out the field, I had to;
1. Open activesync, press "Menu" > "Options..."
2. Select "Microsoft Exchange" (or whichever account you're having this issue with) and delete it.
3. Now you'll have to set up your exchange server config again; but when you get to the screen where you select which services you'll be using (email, calendar, contacts, text messages, tasks), select email and press "Settings..."
4. Press "Advanced..." and voila! the "My e-mail addresses" field isn't grayed out anymore. Type your email address into it, press OK.
5. Finish the setup and resync.
Now, the "reply all" button will work as expected. If someone sends an email to you and you only, reply all will open a compose dialog to just that person (and not add you to the To: list as well!). I'm not sure what other peoples' preferences are, but ever since I got gmail, it's very rare when I don't want to reply all, so this fix was invaluable to me.
I just need to figure out how to add this to xda_uc; the activesync.xml doesn't seem to have an option for this.
This is a bug? How else do you keep a record of emails you send from your phone?
Yeah it's a bug. Sent messages go in the sent folder, you don't need or want a copy in your inbox...
Not to mention you'll get the mail received alert next time it syncs with exchange. And no, it's not someone replying to your email... it's the email you just sent. Very annoying.
