Hi guys, im new to this forum and have done a lot of reading, though have not found a definitive answer to my questions:
What is the issue with the Touch HDs GPU?
Is it that Drivers have not been made by HTC and so it is not used?
What can we do to overcome this?
I have already installed the Diamond ATI drivers although they do not seem to give me performance as smooth as i have seen on other, older pocket pcs.
Thanks in advance, i would really appreciate it if someone were to clear up these things for me.

The blackstone uses the MSM72xx chipset made by Qualcomm. In theory there are drivers for that chip, but the Qualcomm policy is a bit strange. Apparently you buy the chip itself, but the drivers aren't included. So you have to pay for each driver seperatly.
Therefore HTC tries to save some money, so they haven't bought these drivers, which means that the major work is done by the cpu making the device slow (or at least slower than it could be with full hardware support).
Until now there is no real work around. We are still looking for devices with these drivers included, but so far we haven't found drivers, which make full use of the hardware.
Personally I'm wondering if those drivers really exist (for Windows Mobile (as claimed by Qualcomm)), because I can't imagine why distributers don't want to add them, as they would improve the performance dramatically.
That's the short story, you can read through this thread in order to get more information.
Thanks
So for the time being is all that we can do is wait for someone to write/port over drivers?

I guess such a low level programming can't be done without the knowhow of the chip itself.
I would like to help but the only thing i could feasibly help with is testing and benchmarks seeing as i know very little about programming and even less about low level programming

Hi everyone,
I'm aware of the HTC graphical driver issues on theirs phones. I saw the benchmarks results of the Kaiser, Polaris, ... and they're sooooo poor compared to the Nokias' and iPhone's ones. That's so bad according to the possibilities of the hardware of these phones !
I also saw that HTC responded to HTCClassAction in January saying they're goin to implement the right drivers from that moment. It seems that("s not what happened.
I'm considering buying a HTC Touch HD aka Blackstone and I wish to know what I should expect from it. Does it implement the right driver ? I mean does it support hardware acceleration ?
I'm sad to say that but I have a KS20 which doesn't support PocketHAL and PointUI and I'm seriously considering buying an iPhone even if I HATE Apple's politics...
Can someone give me a straight and definitive answer about the Qualcomm/ATI driver support on the Blackstone ?? Or tell if there is an unofficial way to implement them through an alternative ROM or a simple CAB ?
Thanks a lot !

Are you asking from a purely technical/developer's point of view, or are you asking if the HD's graphic performance is better?
Well both in a way.
Technically speaking first coz I want to know what could work on the Blackstone from a PocketHAL UI like PoitUI to a full OpenGL ES game.
And in a second time if there is some evolutions since the Kaiser, Polaris or Diamond.
But first of all. It aksed a binary answer (yes or no) : does HTC had implemented a hardware acceleration or is it still a Microsoft software rendering ?
THANKS

nobody knows ?
It has hardware 3d acceleration of opengl es and mobile directx, but it implementation isn't as good as it could be i believe. I am no expert, and this info is what I have gleaned from these forums. Touchflo 3D uses hardware acceleration.
I have tried the game 'Toy Golf' on my phone, and it runs with accelerated graphics which appear smooth, but unfortunatley most of the rendering is corrupt or missing. I am not aware of any other 3D games to try.
Hello, i am an old user here in the forums and i have been always keep quiet reading the forums etc.
I went from my Qtek s200, to HTC P3300, to HTC P3650, to HD and then i bought an iphone.
I was always anti-iphone but since i held one in my hands, with all its eye-candy applications and vivid and smooth graphics, i decided to keep it.
Recently i went to a mall and had the chance to see the HD2, and from what i could see, it wouldnt lag so much as my previous HTC devices.
From what i could see, it had the Snapdragon CPU ( correct me if i am wrong ) and it was much smoother and stuff.
So the big question is this : Are the GPU drivers implemented or is it a system bottleneck again ? I am not really interested in playing games, but i want a phone that can at least scroll through contacts and menu with no lag at all like my iphone.
If the GPU drivers are there, i will dump the iphone for sure and go HD2.
Please advice,
Thanks in advance,
Sedde
chainfire developed tweaked gpu drivers for this device, so there are, even if not "official".
Also, the difference between the device you checked at the mall, and the ones most of us are using (custom roms, stripped from useless stuff, updated drivers, registry tweaks to take advantage of the newly discovered 576MB for caching), is probably that they're definitely faster than what you could have experienced in a shop.
Obviously, you must be ready to "waste" time in order to achieve that. If you want the device ready and at best right out of the box, then the HD2 is not the best choice

Hm, that sounds attractive, ok going back to HTC, i am bored with this Apple thingie
Does anyone have installed to HP614C a Android2.2 software?
Please advice if this someday will it can be installed and will it be stable?
I have read about the dual boot.
Thank you.
second that!

Yes but there is not answer if this can be done now!
Never heard of Android on 614c. I heard of it successfully run on some HTC devices (Tilt II), but this one is manufactured by a different company, so I don't think it will ever be possible
there is a thread regarding booting aOS on 614c. The memeber who tried (natively, no haret involved) told it is working but most of the functions do not work. I tried to beg him/pm him for boot loader instructions etc to no avail until now. So it is possible as pxa is now supported within android. he told that calls did work but no camera net or wifi was there. I myself would like to test it. actually i think the farthest we can get is 1.6. i think 2.1 demands more resources like 3d and andr 2.2 fixes the speed greatly for 2.1.
Please seniors, do some devel regarding this. if we have an inital rom/howto someone might be interrested in developing it a little further.
Kudos to this board!
here is the first topic regarding this:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=464998&highlight=android
Also here is my pm with the guy who managed it and told some info and advised us not to bother (tonev)
"Why would you need android there are so many things that don't work, you can't take pictures with the camera, no sound (but you can make calls and you can hear the other person and he can hear you perfectly)"
That's what I really meant... probably you can boot it (I think you can also boot Linux), but a lot of stuff doesn't work, and probably never will because there are no drivers for the hardware. Android development only respects hardware in devices that are *made for* android, so I doubt there'll ever be any drivers for our hardware, especially since it was built by some company that doesn't build any devices anymore. HTC reuses hardware in lots of devices, so there's a higher probability with an HTC device that hardware is supported.
Hi,
Does anyone make some progress on this project?
Thanks!
Hi,
Any update on this?
Hi folks,
i have an idea. i am so much fond of windows mobile 6.5.3 and i really like it. i think it's one of the best os for tablets, especially at 7 inches. now you can google for the mangrove 7 to get the idea. unfortunally, the mangrove 7 has never been in production. so i thought of creating my own: i have found a device with almost the same specifications as the hd2. so it must be possible to port that image onto the device. the device is called: huawei ideos s7 slim.
my question: is it possible to run windows mobile on this device by porting the hd2 rom on it? heres why i think:
the both have:
qualcomm 8250 1ghz
adreno 200
and everything else like gps thats involved with the qualcomm chip.
does anyone have an idea how i get the windows mobile on to this specific tablet?
many thanks!
Jakob Sebens
sure its not impissible. but i diubt it will happen. there is hardly any community supportfor that device. alot of work will be required.
hi, thanks for your reply,
why is alot of working needs to be done?
i thougth it was only a matter of flashing the hd2 rom on the device since they have almost identical specs. or must there be done something to make the device accessible for flashing alternative roms?
best regards and thanks for answering!

Sure. but you need to understand slot...
1) you need a tool to crack the bootloader.
2) you need to write XIP scripts, files etc. you need to build a kitchen.
3) BASICALLY slot of work will be needed! I say it is not impossible but 99% unlikely to happen.
4) Community support! you need at least 15 devs on this project...
Think about the TG01 .. same specs isnt enough! my TG01has virtually the same specs as the HD2 but it still cant get a decent Android Port/ROM dump from HD2. Same snapdragon CPU/GPU, screen, OS, etc.
same specs does not mean same hardware.
if you learned a bit of digital electronics, surely you know about hardware addresses, etc. in our case, device X for hardware A maybe located at address 0x1234 but the same device on hardware B could be located at 0x1000. these addresses are generally hardcoded in ROMs. it's a lot of work to identify those differences & make the necessary modifications.
(a device can be many things - buttons, screen, touch sensor, speaker, mic, communication ports, etc...)
very much thanks for theses replies, consider this thread closed then. i will buy an htc athena then. thanks all for your help.
Admin: you can close this thread.
I was wandering, Qualcomm released the drivers for the GPU of all Adreno snapdragon models of 2XX (this includes HD2 Adreno 200 graphics) but we don't have any real Hardware Accelerated ICS rom yet.
I know that I'm gonna be bashed with all those "Why don't you do it yourself!" wanderfull and so helpfull posts, but if this is only what you have to say, please don't even bother to post.
What I wanted to know is if we have another kind of problem besides the drivers so we can have HardAcc roms for our beloved device?
Greetings, Santroph.
I really think this should be on the DEV section, because this is a DEV question, but, since this is the question forum, here it is...
I think kernel support is needed to get full use of the ics drivers... and devs have no specific kernel source code for now... or they need some time to make the adjustements...
In any case the expectation is high

I was also wondering why it wasn't there yet, Glad you asked, Might get some things solved
Q: When will HTC HD2 get full hardware acceleration on ICS?
A: After the crow's wing crosses in front of the moon.
I agree
I'm very grateful for all the developers out there for doing everything they do for us and our HD2, but a fully-functional ICS (with hardware acceleration as well as Chrome beta) would be simply amazing. I'm just a beginner programmer, but if there's anything in my skills that can be done to help - I'd be glad to do so.
