i am looking to use the gps feature of my phone on my laptop\desktop. ive looked around the web and around xda but cant find anything. my phone is still locked with wm6.
So my post was premature, sorry about that. I found what i needed, so ill share it with yall aswell post links to tha goods. first i wanted to connect my gps functionnlity to my laptop, the answer is GPS2Blue. Whick is a nifty little app that lets you send raw GPS data to your pc via bluetooth or tcpip. Beacuase im having trouble with setting up a bluetooth pan i went with the tcpip. now the problem there was i will be useing my setup for war driving, so i want my network free on my laptop. The solution was a virtual serial port. Basically a tcpip to usb app. Then i setup the mapping software earthbridge to send the data to google earth. i dont know if anyone is interested in this but if you want more info just ask.

Hi all, I've been reading up here for the last 2 weeks but am still unsure what to do. Want to active sync and surf through laptop only using bluetooth, at the minute the com ports are 18 upwards for laptop so this may be the only problem I have in trying to serial communicate ? perhaps. Is there any bluetooth tools I can use to assist here or should I be looking to try and change the com port numbers to a lower number in the laptop. Running Qtek2020 1.72.00WWE, radio 1.12.00, extra rom 1.72.752. Everything else works ok Parrot car kit etc so I dont want to upset anything.
Been through Xp but can only view com port settings but cant seen to find a screen thats lets me change them ?
A friend has xda 1 and he says go to bluetooth manager settings advanced but there is none of those choices on my phone ?
Any idea on where is best to start - had phone 4 weeks and still cant work it out - any rough pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Hi guys,
Okay, I want to be able to connect my laptop to the Internet by pairing my XDAIIi and the laptop together via Bluetooth.
I have managed to get my laptop to identify the XDAIIi as a modem, and I can get it to dial normal dialup numbers through the IDAIIi... However, I want the laptop to connect using the phones GPRS, NOT a dialup number.
Any idea's how this can be done?
Cheers,
R
Come on! Surely this must be possible

just take a look around or use search most of these things have been up already
Hi Rudegar,
Thank you for your reply. However, I have extensively searched the forums already before posting, and could not find anyone trying to do it this particular way.
The link you gave is an example of that. They are connecting the XDAII using a USB cable to the PC. I'd like to do the same thing, except connect using bluetooth.
So if anyone can help !!
here are a few from the networking forum

Good Day,
I'm in the same spot, I am searching in many forums for a solution.
If I find a solution that works I will post it here - please do the same!
My goal is to be able to carry a USB Bluetooth Adapter in my pocket, toss it in my friend's computer and QUICKLY setup a Bluetooth PAN to borrow his internet connection.
If anybody has any other solutions that may work for me I am listening!
Thanks, Audi2Audi.

The .cab file that you will find there will not work this way.
Is allow you to do the opposit. Use your wireless Internet on the computer
Hhhmm...Is anyone able to offer me a solution.
Bluetooth PAN is a service offered at the host PC (I have tried two different PCs) - However, my Bell Mobility HTC Touch (Vogue) does not recognize/offer the service in the Bluetooth Configuration. It only offers Stereo Headset and COM Port. Originally it offered ActiveSync as a service but that has since dissappeared for no apparent reason and replaced with the COM port option.
At home, assuming I could get the ActiveSync service back & to stick around, I could borrow my internet connection through ActiveSync.
As stated above though, I am looking for a QUICK solution when travellling away from home. Meaning without having to install ActiveSync/Mobile Device Center. The Bluetooth PAN option and ICS on the host PC appears to be the most workable solution. It is just a matter of getting the HTC Vogue to recognize it as a service.
Through reading several posts I have come to the conclusion that using a different Bluetooth Stack on the device may work. However, I have not come across instructions specific to the Vogue for achieving this.
Annnnny help or ideas to solve my problem is greatly apreciated!
Thank You, Audi2Audi.
Hi!
im just wondering if there is a possibility to use my HTC Touch Diamond as a GPS dongle to my Macbook?
Anyone know if there is a app for that or something?

Solution! Further way down
Okey guys!
it was a long time since i wrote here, but i actually solved the problem!
as mr-pill recommended i used Franson GpsGate
I installed the program with the .CAB to my memmorycard not the internal storage.
after installation i went through the wizard and i chose only internal GPS not garmin or bluetooth.
After that you got the option how you whant to sync with the other units, i choose bluetooth, make sure you have you phone paired with you macbook.
the in you program hope for that it supports bluetooth GPS.
and your done!

Nope nothing i cant get it to work :S
how shall i connect my device to my macbook? Bluetooth? USB cable?
Whan i choose BT it just says that BT not enabled even if it is :S
Very strange? IF USB shall i take Storage och Active Sync?
Keep us posted, I want to do the same thing except with Windows XP. If you do get it figured out would you mind posting how you did it? Thank you in advance
The only advice I can give you is: If doing via bluetooth you need to make sure the program is looking at the correct COM port otherwise it will never "see" the gps.

I had some fun with GPS2Blue yesterday, but finally got it working. As well as getting all programs to look at the right port, you need to create an incoming bluetooth serial port on the phone for it to work - you can easily create an incoming port on the PC easily (you'd expect to want your phone to access services on the PC, not the other way round, right?), but as I understand it's not quite so easy on the phone.
Managed to find these instructions and got it working perfectly: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=499896&highlight=gps2blue
EDIT: This will work for all GPS applications that uses a serial GPS receiver, not just those that explicitly support bluetooth receivers (I got hold of some very old free software and it works fine). The bluetooth linkis handled by Windows/MacOS and all the app sees is a serial port.

USE G1 As External GPS On Laptop - Can This Be Done
The reason why I am asking this is cause I am building A Car PC.
I can use the G1 as A Wifi Connection Surf The Net With Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc....
But It would be great to use with MS Streets Of Garmin PC, etc... with the Dreams GPS
If this has not been done yet it would be great if some one could (Must Likely a Developer) make a program that can do this
Thanks In Advance
And I Also Already Did This SEARCH FOR USE G1 As External GPS
im pretty sure this has been covered b4 but im not 100% and the answer then was no( i personaly dont know but i remember seeing a bunch of people saying no) well hopefully thats helps a lil..
maybe the dream uses a comport to communicate with the gps reciever, if that is true you may be able to redirect this to a bluetooth-comport
It may be possible, but I really don't think it would be worth the tremendous effort, considering GPS dongles can be had for less than 20 a pop.
I think it would be awesome to do since it's one less piece of equipment to carry around.
All it would take would be:
A program to take reading of the GPS info.
Convert it to the proper format (emulating a GPS dongle which isn't hard.)
There already are various programs that can send data to the PC. Use one of their code.
Have a program on the PC to translate it all into a virtual com port.
But then... I'm not a programmer. And the way I discribe it would be more like a hack than a proper program. But I don't believe the android API's allow you to control the way that the USB or the Bluetooth is identified by a computer.
It can be done but I don't think android naively supports the serial port profile over bluetooth which you would need to accomplish this. Once you figure that out all you need is to get your phone to spit out NMEA location data over that connection and your laptop will see it as a Generic GPS device.

Indeed, and if you're building a CarPC, a small GPS dongel - that can be placed in good line-of-sight - is the better option anyway.

I would prefer connection over internet or WiFi as it won't be easy to provide sky view to an laptop or pc so any user may place his laptop or pc at an place, get near an window for sky view to his android phone, then the data would be transferred to pc via internet or WiFi connection instead of connecting usb chord each time...
There are already apps like printer share which uses the phones internet connection for printing, also the upcomming app teradesk that lets an user to get files from his pc even when we are far from our pc,.....
Both apps use a server and client method for data transfer... so hope this would be possible...
