Bluetooth Qtek2020 tools etc - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Hi all, I've been reading up here for the last 2 weeks but am still unsure what to do. Want to active sync and surf through laptop only using bluetooth, at the minute the com ports are 18 upwards for laptop so this may be the only problem I have in trying to serial communicate ? perhaps. Is there any bluetooth tools I can use to assist here or should I be looking to try and change the com port numbers to a lower number in the laptop. Running Qtek2020 1.72.00WWE, radio 1.12.00, extra rom 1.72.752. Everything else works ok Parrot car kit etc so I dont want to upset anything.
Been through Xp but can only view com port settings but cant seen to find a screen thats lets me change them ?
A friend has xda 1 and he says go to bluetooth manager settings advanced but there is none of those choices on my phone ?
Any idea on where is best to start - had phone 4 weeks and still cant work it out - any rough pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Bluetooth PC App Installation Problems

mates,
having some issues with the bluetooth function in my laptop and i'd appreciate it if anyone can give me some tips on what to do.
i bought a difusi bluetooth dongle (via usb), installed the software and everything worked fine. activesync was working great, remote display, pocket tablet, etc...in other words all apps using bluetooth worked flawlessly.
last week my laptop was reformatted; it was already using windows xp but we had to have it reformatted to accomodate a new software to be used in the office. anyway, so i reinstalled all the apps i use like audiograbber, etc, and of course difusi bluetooth.
strange; a window kept popping up saying something about the windows xp logo compatibility; which could explain why the app wouldn't work properly?? sure i was able to install bluetooth; but i can't seem to get activesync working anymore. aside from this; the guide for bonding the xda2 and the laptop shows that the first window to configure is "my bluetooth places"...i can't access this anymore. clicking on the icon on my desktop; nothing happens.
i searched around the internet and came upon an article saying that you needed the windows xp service pack 2 (sp2). did that via windows updates; removed the bluetooth software, reboot, reinstall and still the app doesn't work right.
any tips would be much appreciated.
cheers

almost solved
okay, after extensive research and web searching both in the forum and the internet; i finally found out what was wrong with my windows xp. apparently after my laptop was reformatted i'm now using windows xp sp2. i've been reading a lot of posts and apparently sp2 isn't as good; the recommendation was to go back to sp1. which i did; and finally i was able to access "my bluetooth places". everything is okay so far; the screens that i wanted to see came up.
however; my problem now lies in the com ports. i followed the guide in syncing the xda with the laptop; the first part is to take note of the port corresponding to the bluetooth serial port. fair enough. the next one is to configure activesync so that both of them will have the same com ports.
now here's where my problem starts. the bluetooth configuration shows that the com port used is 15; while that of activesync only uses com port 1 or 3.
my questions is; how do i change either com ports from either applications so that i can match them?? i've been trying but so far the drop down menus for com ports doesn't allow much.
cheers

Hi All, great forum this found out loads of info.

But it does not work.

Any ideas please.

Hi.
I spent hours and hours trying to sep up Activesync and I found these and sorted it:
Bluetooth Drivers:
First I removed the old Bluetooth drivers as they are not needed.
http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?ContentId=3163
Com ports:
Then I reset the com ports.

I found this a little tricky, but I did it like this (using SP2 BT drivers on XP):
1.Start off with the phone and computer unpaired
2.Open the bluetooth menu (double click on the bluetooth icon in the system tray).
3.Select the comm ports tab and click to add a new INCOMING port. - This port got assigned to something stupid like comm 36.
4.Open device manager, and select the comm port that has just been made.
5. Go to properties->port settings->advanced and change it to a lower end port you know isn't in use. I selected 3.
6. Reboot the computer (not sure if this was really needed)
7. On the phone go to start->settings->system-bluetooth settings and make sure the in and outgoing ports are selected (again not sure if thats essential, but I have it on and it works for me). Then press start.
8. Bond with your computer. There isnt anything that tells you if this has worked or not (which is very frustrating), so you just gotta click ok and test it.
9. In activesync go into the connections bit and tell it to list on the comm that you set in step 3. To get to this bit you have to have synced your phone through usb or something first.
10. on the phone go to activesync->tools->connect via bluetooth (remember to turn bluetooth on first). If everything has gone to plan then it should connect fine.
I did this a few times until suddenly it worked. I'm not sure what I did the time that it did work, but it was something, so I would suggest trying slightly different things each time, but I'm pretty sure it was that way.
The whole process of setting up activesync over bluetooth is really tedious imo, and could be greatly improved in many many ways.
Good luck and let me know if this works.

when i try to bond with my computer...why is it asking for a PIN CODE? im trying to connect my imate to the computer so i can sync thru bluetooth and possibly use the internet when i'm around the house. Can someone please help me?
i tried the search engine, but its no help for me.
of course it will ask for a pincode in both directions.. meaning your phone and PC.. but this for the first time connection only... so what you want to do is to set each other as an authorized counterpart of the other so that you will not have any confirmations again
ok...sorry for these noobie question...i have finaly established a connection with my PC.
is it possible for me to use the internet from my computer on my PDA thru BT? for example, i want to use AIM *AOL* instant message, but im not sure if there is an internet connection on my PDA thru bluetooth. How would i tell if there is a connection? if not, how do i connect? please help? thanks again in advance
If you go into activesync and under options-->rules at the bottom there is the option to share your net connection with the synced device (called pass-through). My XDA II pops up a message when its making a gprs connection.
Hi @ all,
I did not tested it again because I now have a synccable.
This works fine.
Thanks a lot for your great support!
I installed Mobile Navigon4 (Update4.2). Because of the fact that my audiospeaker is not working (Audio about Headset & BT-Headset works fine/speaker is not defect)here is my question:
Can I use the PPC in my car for navigation ?I want to use the BT-Headset for the navigation audio output.Does it work?

Magician ActiveSync via Bluetooth - Please Help Help Help

Hi everybody...
I know this has been posted be4... but I have searched the forum a lot, with no luck..
searched howardforums too.. no luck too...
even in bengalboy web site, but his guide did not work.... every time I try to connect to my pc I get disconnected..
I wish to sync vis M$ stack... not Bluesoeilfor the JAM
I has MSI BT dongle, Toshibal BT stack on PC, M$ BT stack on JAM
*PS: does anybody know how to install M$ BT on PC... I have Win XP pro SP2.. and I think it should have built in.. but when I uninstall Toshiba's Stack.. I can get anything!!!
please help...some basic what to do....
I really appreciate it
duke911: do you want to explain what you've done so far on the PC.
That PDA should be fine, it's quite easy to setup
(read here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=144696#144696)
However, on the PC: you've installed the hardware, have your bluetooth dongle working, and have successfully paired your PDA?
V
Thanks vijay555 for the swift reply
The dongle works fine, pairs and everything...
but when I plugged it for the first time.. it was not recognized by my PC... aparenely there were no drive for BT.. so I installed the Toshiba's stack bundled with the dongle.
Here is what I have done:
first I tried bengalboy guide here ( although i dislike his website a lot )
http://www.bengalboy.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=4&forum=8
but every time I finish and I press Connect Via Bluetooth in Active Sync PPC... I see the opening port message etc.. but I don't get connected..
after that.. Toshiba's Stack on my PC started to act weired... first when I paired with the JAM.. I get three services: SPP, DUN, Push Object
but after a while.. SPP just disappeared...
Then I uninstalled the driver.. reinstall.. same problem..
uninstall.. tried ( Add Hardware Wizard in PC ) to try Microsoft Stack.. but it did recognize the dongle...
please vijay555.. can you tell me how to install the original stack from Microsoft on my PC???
Thanx in advance
duke911: I'm actually using the blue soleil stack that came with my ebay dongle. I vaguely remember there being an enormous effort getting that to install, for marginal benefit. I'm in the office right now, but if you still need help later I can see if they'll help you out, when I get home later.
But try reading through some of the blue soleil threads on this board, I think they discuss the relative benefits of the various stacks floating around on the board. Blue Soleil works for me, but frankly, bluetooth is the kind of thing you shouldn't have to think about, it should just work, right!? Those threads might also discuss uninstalling any other stack. If you've not made major changes, have you considered using System Restore on your PC to roll back to before installing the dongle?
V
OK.. I have done every thing you can imagine.... it now 2 am... I have been trying to figure out how do this since 3 pm... and no luck
I tried installing the dongle on a different PC with XP SP1... also no luck.. no M$ driver... so I installed Toshiba's...
after that I restored my JAM using a sprite back up to a different time... how knows maybe i messed a lot since 3 pm
after that i did the following:
1. in PPC: went to Start>Settings>System> Bluetooth Settings then choose Incoming COM and pressed Start in the middle of the page..
2. paired with PC.. no problems.. PS: PPC did not say that my PC supports SPP
3. on PC.. choose the same COM port that Toshiba uses for SPP ( which is COM 8 ) in my case..
4. from PPC tried to Sync.. and then I get this message in Active Sync in PC
5. If I choose different COM port for AS.. I get the usual message on my PPC ( connecting to Host ) but I get nothing
PS: I'm using Active-Sync 4.1 on the another PC... while the previous uses v 3.8
please vijay555 help me out here... my head is about to explode
Problem Solved.... 8)
Will post instruction tomorrow.. step by step.. for newbies...
thanks vijay555 for you help
OK here is the thing...
the trick is to chooses the same COM port for you Serial Port Profile for both : PC bt stack & Active-Sync... i.e. both use COM 7 or 8 ..etc
second.. you should pair your PPC with PC.. and create an Outgoing COM from your PPC...
a picture is worth a thousand words.. check this GIF
cheers
hey duke what did you do? i've been trying to get m jam to sync for agees without any luck! i'm starting to think that it might be the usb dongle that i'm using on my laptop! bout to go buy a new one so any tips you can offer would be great
do the following:
1. make sure PC bluetooth stack uses the same port for SPP as well as Active-Sync i.e. Both COM 8
2. on PPC: go to Start>Settings>System then choose Bluetooth Settings... and then tick outbound COM Port..
3. a pop up message will show.. click OK then you'll be take to BT manager.. you have to make sure you device is discoverable... then pair with your laptop.. after you finish.. go to COM Ports in BT manager... and create a new outgoing COM port...
4. go to Active-Sync in PPC and then choose tools>Connect via Bluetooth
that's it.. and I guess the gif will prove helpful
cheers
Ok, here's another manual. You have to follow each step precisely!
In your bluetooth manager on the PC, check for your incoming serial bluetooth port. This is the com port number which is shown under Local services or incoming services. If your COM port number is above 10, ask what to do then - ActiveSync doesn't work with COM ports above No 10.
Go to the ActiveSync settings on your PC and set the check box for the serial port. Select the one that was shown in the blueototh settings as incoming BT port.
On your Pocket PC, go to the Bluetooth settings. Select both checkboxes for the incoming and outgoing COM Port.
There you press start, go to your bluetooth device list and delete an existing pairing to the PC to which you want to connect to. Then re-pair the PPC with the computer again.
Afterwards, you can go to ActiveSync on your PPC and select "Connect via Bluetooth ...". That's it.
[/list]
hey dandie! what do i do if my pc assigns a com port of 11 and higher for my jam? i've tried the "show hidden" under device manger but my pc still keeps assigning a com port of 11 and higher?!
help
thanks
The COM port of PC and PPC DOESN'T have to be match. (No matter what BT stack you are using) In fact
Com port on Magician is FIXED at Com 5 and there is nothing to configure regarding the Com port over there.
On the PC, the BT stack choose whatever free com port them for serial connection. (eg: The blue soleil stack will tell you which com port is using in the pops up message when U BT activesync yr PPC to yr PC)
Then File > Connection Setting and select that port on yr PC's activesync.
(Sometimes, U have to try it serveral times to get activesync working)

BlueTooth Internet

Yo!
I have a PC at home connected to the interent & I have a BlueTooth USB Dongle plugged in.
Simply (yeah, right) how do you configure my home WinXP Pro PC & my Xda Exec such that the Xda Exec can browse the internet using the home PC internet connection over a BlueTooth connection????
I have spent all day trawling forums & internet, but any reference made to Windows operating system does not seem to relate to the one I have installed??!?!?!?!???!
HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!
Andy
(PS I have manage to create a 'partnership' between the two, but that's all.
Won't ActiveSync 4.1 do this now? I've got my XDA Mini S connected to my laptop via BT right now and I can get Exhange email and surf the Web without WiFi or GPRS as my Laptop is connected to the internet
No special settings required...
However, makesure you pair your phone from your PC for BT Active Sync support... if you already have a pairing delete it on both the PC and Phone and repair etc etc...

erm, Okeey dokee, piggy in a pokey.....
Exactly, in words of less than one syllable, how do you do that.
Assume nothing, as I know nothing.
I have been pulling my hair out & shouting at everything ALL day trying to get this sodding thing to work... BT ActiveSync support <- what is that??? Is this the golden goose I'm missing?!?!?!?!
So far I have managed to, but have now lost a very unstable internet connection (that GPRS kept constantly trying to overrule) I've been messing with COM ??? for the last 2 hours (my latest discovery) but (for whatever utterly unknown reason) I simply CANNOT get my PC COM port to be in an acceptable range (i.e. COM<=9)
ARRRRRGGGGGG!!!!
You are one LUCKY little bunny if this 'just worked' for you!!!!
well done
Andy
1. Download and install ActiveSync 4.1 from Microsoft http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/downloads/activesync41.mspx
Follow the instructions you will need your sync cable
While you do that I'll erm go write it all down
Hey thanks m8.
Jolly decent of you ol' bean.
BTW ActiveSync 4.1 slapped in already...
BRB
Andy
OK went to write the stuff and thought I'd unpair mine need to make sure I can get the connection back seems that somthing is remembering pairing somwhere.
Gimmie a few more mins think I'll need to reset phone to get this to work TBH...
Oh and you should not need any COM ports defined in Local or Client as Active Sync creates one...
Yes hard reset fixed the problem.... so you will need to do that too I guess as it seems not to work as somehow the AS link to the phone gets ignored...
Sec should upload a Word Doc.
Cool
I am learning >many< things about BlueTooth USB Dongles.
All of them dodgy to say the least.
One biggy is removing the Microsoft driver from the PC (& issues concering COM port assignment). Once this is done, install the correct driver. THEN DO NOT USE THE DONGLE IN ANOTHER USB PORT.
Poor, poor, POOR programming.....
Andy
Here it is... A bit ragged but what you expect!
Now I gotta fix all my phone back hehe
The key thing is the Phone should show ActiveSync as a service on the PC if it only shows Serial Port it ain't going to work.
Thank you VERY much.
I'll have a look & get back for feedback.
Regards,
Andy
BTW,
This'll make you laugh.
BT.... For about an hour there I was in 'phone mode' (and why not). aka British Telecom (my excuse: I've been trying to unravel anachronims ALL day!)
Then it finally dawned on me. BT. BLUE TOOTH
Dozey sod!

ROFL
Well I got my phone back up and did sommit similar as I had reasigned I.E. button to OK and was wondering why I.E. kept popping up lots
[email protected]
Their marketing guys must have had a field day with this device.
(The stuff I design has only 9 buttons on it and Jesus, don't even mention marketing to my team - they all get nervous ticks).
Andy
Dunno how you cope with the weight of the Exec but tis nice
Look at my sig.
For the price I got it for I couldn't give a flying fart how much it weighs...
Anyway the mobile phone part of it is just for kicks (I hide myself on the very rare occasions that someone rings me when I'm out because I feel an utter pratt with that lump glued to the side of my nut. Note to self: must get a headset... hold on these are BlueTooth devices as well... arrrrrgh).
For the 2 weeks I've had it since fixing it, mainly used it for:
Showing off.
Mentioning how much I paid for it, and then showing off some more.
Playing 'Age of Empires', Quake, Doom, Tetris, Worms on the Bog. (did I say 'worms'??? )
Fiddling with 'WiFi' connections to the internet (at Work)
Fiddling with 'BlueTooth' Connections to the internet (at Home)
Working out why someone has decided the red 'X' now does NOT shut a program down.
And ultimately used it as a thing to be shouted at.
Weight?? It's lighter than my ZX Spectrum - Kids of today!

Use OBD Reader for WM6

Hi,
I have an SX-66, and I used to used OBDGauge with W2003SE, the thing is I upgraded to WM6, and the program runs, but I get an error:
Error: Failed to open serial port
Does anyone know how to open a serial port under WM6?
I love this program and it works so well, I would hate to downgrade just to use it. I know it works for WM6, because a buddy of mine has the HTC Tilt and he uses the same program and it works fine for him.
If it is of any help, I use a ELM 323 connetion to serial.
If I figure it out, I will let you guys know how I did it.
--------
Also for those of you using WM6 on your SX66 with a BT GPS, I was able to connect mine when I used the BroadcomCorp_BT1.6.0.600 update.
I now connects flawlessly. Only thing is the connection takes a while to sync, like maybe 45-60 sec. I went from Miami, FL to Orlando, a 3 hour drive and it did not disconnect once. It also creates an extra Bluetooth file on my settings, but allows me to use the command manager to turn it off or on, so thats fine with me.
Do you connect your ODB reader via bluetooth?
No I connect it through data cable?
OBD WM6
If your PDA supports serial port hardware, you should open the same COM port as before? You can also use Bluetooth to read OBD data from your car : http://www.obdkey.com
Ok so everything is up and ready.
I have an ELM323 connecting to my Sx66. I am able to communicate beautifully with my Cars ECU now. Already have seen a few thing that need adjusting like my timing.
Well anyways. As soon as my wife gets home, I am going to take pictures. I will send you guys the looks. The good thing is I found the original data cable on ebay from Cingular/Siemens. It is USB and Serial, but it has an adapter to also charge it. I was worried, because my cradle did not have serial, but I know you could get an serial/usb adapter (but someone told me it would not work this way).
Anyways, upcoming plans are to do a little tweak, the same one from Youtube, called the Aximizer.
Also, one more thing are GSM attennas worth their money?
o_0
Ok....
So I am not liking something with OBDGauge, like the fact that it is a pain in the rear to get to work on my car. When I replied, it worked, now it is not. I have to diddle daddle with it until finally it works, takes 5 minutes (not very practical). I have been reading the forums and alot of people have problems with OBDgauge. I am going to install something else: If anyone you know of any programs let me know, must support WM6.
OK a heads up.
For those of you that want to do a little project you will need 3 things to get your blueangel to work with the OBDII reader in your car:
1. a serial null modem: you can find one at radio shack
2. serial cable data cable, a converter serial to usb will not work.
3. and an OBDII with elm 323 or 327, also autoenginuity has a great one package with a badass program that only works with their reader.
I am in the process of making a program with my brother-in-law for this to work with the ELM devices as we have notice that most programs are limited and do not feature things like oil pressure and miles per gallon.
I wish I knew how to create a dyno program, but I will leave it upto others to come.
I only know of two programs that work well with WM6 under the ELM that are free and they are: OBDGAUGE and ScanTest or MicroOBD.
anyways I do not know much about making a program for WM6, but my brother-in-law does. I am going to try my best with him to develop something, when I do, I will put out here for you guys to use.
I would like some new tips if possible so that we do not have to struggle too much.

How does your buddy connect his tilt to the OBDII reader, is there some bluetooth serial adapter involved? I have a Kaiser (and can't believe that the Tilt has a serial port or USB host) and am currently looking for exactly the same thing to do.
Any updates of apps för OBD reading?
Or just the same old same old apps?
OBDGauge and MicroOBD

I would like to know also. I have a bluetooth ELM327 device that connects fine to my Palm Lifedrive, but when I try with the Tilt running WM6 I get the "failed to open serial port" window. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks
[edit] I did some more searching and found this post series at ATT's wireless site: http://forums.wireless.att.com/t5/HTC/HTC-Tilt-bluetooth-sync/td-p/1408041
QUOTE: Did you create an outgoing COM port on your phone? You then have to go into ActiveSync's options on the desktop (File-Connection Settings) and check the checkbox that says "Allow connections on " and select that port # in the pulldown menu. At least, that's how I do it in XP.

I think I'm having the same problem... basically, I follow the instructions and still cannot sync. Here is what I see AFTER I pair the devices:
1. On PC (XP w/ all the updates), Bluetooth--> QuickConnect --> Serial Port does not have Tilt device in the pull down menu and when I "Find Device" it cannot find the device (remember, tilt and PC already paired)
2. On PC w/ ActiveSync4.2, I tried to CONNECT using "Connection Setting" and cannot find the Tilt.
3. On PC MyBluetoothPlace, I only see the following "services",
a. Dial-Up
b. Network Access Point
c. Voice Gateway
4. On Tilt, I only see the following services;
a. Wireless Stereo
b. Serial Port
c. Dial Networking
d. Headset

END QUOTE. Admittedly, this is originally dealing with ActiveSync, but I did discover the "New Outgoing Port" setting inside the Settings/Bluetooth folder. Click on COM ports. Select the device you wish to add (mine is called CBT). Hit next and select a COM port (I am using 5). I am going to test in the truck. Eureka! It works! Make sure the com port you select in OBDGauge preferences is the same you assigned to the BT ELM interface, and it should connect and start scanning. Hope this helps.
