Which Registry Key controls Auto Cap of first letter? - XPERIA X1 General

Even though it seems that no one else has this problem or wants it resolved, I CANNOT stop the Capitalization of the First Letter when typing mgs or emails!
And of course I have unchecked the setting! Tried all kinds of check/uncheck settings in Input, etc. !
So the last resort is the Registry. Does anybody know where I can find this key that controls Capitalization?
Thanks
I have the 'new' Generic UK R2 ( and did not have this problem with R1 -but that had a different Customization Software ID though!-)

I´m interested in a solution too! Unchecking the settings seems to have an effect on the software keyboards only...

settings>input>keyboard>options
untick the capitalize XXXXXX

eh?
What exactly is the problem? You don't want it to auto capitalize the first letter after a full stop? I seem to be having the opposite problem, mine rarely capitalizes when I want it to after a full stop.

I've looked for a solution for this for many years, started with windows mobile 2003. You should believe that it could be fixed like altezza says, but he has not tried this himself because that choice under 'settings>input>keyboard>options' has never worked. A bug for how many years ..?
I find it very useful to choose by myself if I want a capital letter or not. Especially since we at least in Norway writes most abbreviations with a dot. Many folks do that, dont they?
A bit frustrating that the next word then is capitalized, i.e. Like this.

This Capitalizing or Not must be controlled by registry. Come on, somebody must know which key it is....!
If it would capitalize after a 'dot', okay but it capitalizes the beginning of a new line, no matter what!
And again for some that don't read my entire post: YES I have tried the settings check/uncheck... duh!
So again, this auto capitalizing at beginning of a new line has to stop.
I would not complain if auto cap at beginning of new sentence (dot/period) but this crap is unacceptable. I don't understand why nobody else finds a solution, expecially since this is there for quite a while.
Okay, kindly, somebody, what is that Registry Key?

So NO ONE knows the Registry Key? Come on, people here disect the ROM but no knowldge about this little key?

As per laaban message, since 2005 he's been looking for a solution. If you're 100% certain you can find it in the registery, why haven't you tried?

I think it is not the keyboard setting which controls the capitalizing...it is the programm you write with! For example: Writing a new SMS will capitalize the first letter but writing in PIGEON or OPERA doesn´t! Or what dou you guys think?

Pretty sure it's related to Pocket Office, something like Auto Correct, but my attempts at unticking boxes still made it happen.
I just do a Ctrl+Z to undo the "correction".

The settings menü under settings-> keyboard->options-> is only for the windows mobile notes program! There is still no solution for the other programs!

Getting Word Completion to learn new words!

OK, this may just be a Pocket PC thing rather than a specific XDA II thing but I'm not sure.
Can anyone tell me if their XDA is learning frequently used words that are not in it's dictionary. For example, my name's Ravi and after a couple of weeks of typing emails, letters etc all ending '... Ravi', it's still not learnt the word. All it suggests is 'Ravaged' (!!)
This morning, I got a bit fed up of this so I created a note and typed in 'Ravi' about 100 times and guess what, it still doesn't learn it.
Is there a trick to getting the dictionary to learn new words or is it just my name it can't stand !!
Maybe someone else can try this and see if it works !
Ravaged
Ravi,
Did you ever sort this out?
I would love to enter a few words (including my name!) in to the database

Check out Fitaly. 60 days trial. You will be able to build own shortcuts. And I think it's a much faster SIP then the others.

I'm not sure if the XDA learns new words by itself, but you can add words. Not sure if there's a simpler way, but this (rather complicated one) works:
- open any transcriber-aware application
- write the word you want to add, using keyboard or transcriber
- mark (highlight) the word
- switch to transcriber; if the second row of icons is not visible, tap on the hand icon
- tap on the icon with the red check mark to open the "corrector window" (not sure if this is the correct translation for "Korrekturfenster" ); the highlighted word will appear in the new window
- double-tap anywhere inside the word.
- in the menu that (hopefully) comes up, chose "add to dictionary" ("Dem Wörterbuch hinzufügen")
Voila, you're all set!
But please be careful - I didn't yet find a way to remove words from the dictionary...
Cheers
Daniel
many thanks,
ashby
Never sorted it out - everyone I spoke to said that the OS doesn't add new words. I'm just about to buy Calligrapher - I tried the demo and it's amazing - I'm not sure that this feature is available on this program either though. I guess I've just given up adding new words but I will try Daniel's method outlined above.
BTW I tried Fitaly and what the hell were they thinking ? Is it supposed to be an easier input method than what we have already or is it just designed to fry your brain ?!!
TenGo's pretty decent though !
thanks all

Getting Word Completion to learn dutch!
Does anyone know how to change the word completion dictionary on my Qtek 2020 / PPC 2003 to another dictionary / language?
It is said that in PPC 2002 you could swap the file \Windows\user.dct, but not on PPC 2003 (the file is apparently not there).
Try out WordLogic: http://www.wordlogic.net/software.html
Not cheap, but works very well!

Capitalize first letter of sentences not working

hi, I am curious to learn whether anybody else has the problem wit WM 5.0 that disabling the keyboard setting "capitalize first letter of sentences" is not working. I tried this already on the Hermes and now on the TyTN. It stays without result. If I type with the keyboard, the automatic correction to capitalized letters keep working even though I uncecked the letter box in the settings.
any help available for this?
It's time to get this post back in the light...
Got this issue also under WM6 and it's quite annoying!
Anyone seen a solution on this matter now?

To Quick For Keyboard?

I remember on my Sidekick I was able to type as fast as I want and every letter would type in... But with my Hermes I have to type slow in order for it to type all my letters correctly.. is there anything I can do so I can type fast and it be accurate?
also, i find that sometimes when im typing one key locks in and types that letter alot until i hit delete.. example: "Hey how are youuuuuuuuuuuuu doing" and it locks typing the U until i hit delete.. any way to fix this?
Hi, there isnt really much you can do about it, thats crappy WM behavior, I used to have the exact same thing happen to me.
I am running the lvsw 3.20.2.1 WM6 and hadnt had any of the mentioned problems, actually I had forgotten all about it happening, untill I read this
Im not saying an that flashing a new rom is definitely going to help you, but pretty much all the crappy typing issues dissapeared in this build for me.
Difficult to pin this one down. As Chaoticdruid says it might help to change ROM. I do not get this very often and when I do it's not obvious what the cause is. Ensure of course nothing else is running when typing and a good bit of free space in Main memory. What is clear is that it's NOT routinely slow on all our devices so it will be possible to speed it up one way or another.
The repeating letters issue may have a different cause. If you get repeating letters and the keyboard is generally laggy then the above comments apply. However, if speed is generally good then I think this is the pretty well known issue of physical/hardware issues with the keyboard. This is commonly shown by some letters not working without an extra firm press and as stated repeating letters.

My opinion
I'm far from knowing what I'm talking about but I have noticed a few things about the problem you are having (happens to me as well).
I do agree that things work faster/smoother when there are no programs running in the background (memory stuff). What has recently helped me was to shut off anything that makes my unit have to think...namely any autocorrect or word suggestion stuff. I had mine suggesting up to four words while I was typing. It seemed my typing was to fast for this process so when I shut it off, it helped speed things up quite a bit! I hope this works for you! It would be nice to feel like I have made some sort of contribution, so many people have been kind enough to help me out on this site.
Just wanna share my test....
I got lazy keys on my Dopod 838 Pro also after upgrading to official Dopod WM6 ROM. At this time I had more than 1500 SMS stored. Since the lazy keys were affecting on SMS/Email writing and not on other apps, I was thinking whether the problem is related somehow to this huge number of stored SMS.
I deleted all my SMS and directly afterwards the keyboard is responsive again.
Can't validate this as I need to wait for my SMS to grow again to see if the lazy keys problem returns... but maybe you can check from yours if you have huge number of stored SMS/email.

I noticed this also, whenever I have 1000+ SMS stored on my phone the typing really slows down to a point where I type a sentence and wait a few seconds for the device to catch up

Text Input question

All phones I've had over the past god knows how many years have all had the ability to automatically save any new words that I might type, but my HD2 does not seem to do so.
What I mean by this is that if I type a word that is not in the phone's dictionary/predictive text, if I manually typed in the word without the predictive text it would remember it for next time, and each time after that. Or in the case of the iphone it would remember it and be able to use it in the auto correct feature. However, the HD2 doesn't. Can you set it so that it does? I've seen in the hints and tips section that you can manually add to the words recognised by predictive text, but not found anything that suggests how it can 'autosave' words.
Any ideas? I'd be amazed if a phone like this hasn't got this feature, as like I said you've been able to do it on other phones for years.
Cheers

It learns gradually from your typing and language style. There is no way to force a word into the dictionary (through the UI), but if you've typed it a few times, and selected it from the suggestions, it just starts to show up. I think it's just a list of suggestions sorted in the order of most commonly used.
It does for me.
You write the full word and it appears as a marked word(as seen in pic nr one). When it does just press it ones and the next time you begin writing it it should suggest it(pic two).

Hmm, mine doesn't seem to do that. When you write the word for the first time do you have it in XT9 or ABC mode?
Also I've just noticed your name. Are you named after the town or the furniture?
I believe that the suggestions are add automatically... To see and add directly..
Navigate to the windows directory and look for
"eT9MyWords.exe"
That will launch the application with the words in.

first letter always auto-cap?!

i know it's EXTREMELY minor, but is it all at possible to turn off the auto-cap of the first letter? i don't ALWAYS need it and it can be quite annoying. TIA!

i don't even see an 'all settings' option, though i'm assuming it'd be because i'm on the US tmobile hd2/different rom perhaps? either way, this is super annoying. does ANYONE have a fix?
lol, sorry but I think it's kinda funny how people are hating on the HD2. I'm posting this from my HD2 and i love it! the all settings button shows up under the menu in the settings. hope that helps
hating? i don't see anyone hating on the hd2 in this thread. a year ago, in fact, i owned the htc touch hd1 as well. i'm definitely a fan of the 'hd' series, i just like to customize my phones to my liking. and yes, unchecking the "capitalize first letter" in the input area didn't fix it for me either.
quite a sad nuisance you're having.
riiiiiiiiiight. thanks for the bump.
@ce_rob
I just got my HD2 a couple of days ago and found this site yesterday, and I've just read alot of threads that were complaining about the HD2. Sorry if I thought you were hating. Actually, I see your problem and I second the motion. I guess I really never noticed it, but yeah, outside of the sms and email (probably office too), the first letter won't be capitalized, even if the box is checked. Hmmmmmm....

oh i agree, i've seen quite a few people complain. they're always welcome to return the device and purchase something else...sadly, they'd rather whine about it first.
and yes! it can be annoying when unnecessary! i hope someone comes up with a fix for this, as small and insignificant as it may be..
You are not searching deep enough!
On Sense move all the way to the right -> Settings Tab
Click Menu -> More
Click Personal
Click Input
DONT click the Options field but the Options Tab on the bottom of the settings page.
Uncheck Capital letters
This MUST fix the problem - at least it fixes the problem in the default keyboard!

Just wondering ...
Why on earth would anyone want to disable the auto-cap for the first word in a sentence?
The first word of a sentance has been capitalized since the dawn of the Latin alphabet (includes English).
Why would you want to turn it off?
(shaking head)

though it's impossible to understand why people like you feel the need to give your input when completely unnecessary, i'm sure it's happened since the "dawn of the Latin alphabet," as you so cleverly put it. thanks for the bump, i guess it wasn't a complete waste of time.

Becuase eg. in Danish we put dates as "d. 27. marts" meaning the 27th of March. In this case I would like it not to start "marts" with a capital letter since it is not a new sentence.

So in Danish you don't use capital letters for proper nouns? Well I never knew that.
Anyway, the suggested settings change DOES WORK. If it doesn't then you have a faulty device and should return it to the supplier. Ask them for the "non-capitalized" version.
I think there's plenty reasons why people don't want the first letter capitalized. I have found the need myself many times. Agree with you johncmolyneux, it should work when you have the settings done. Try a soft reset after making the changes Jawb. On my TyTN II I have the same setting and it works.

No we dont. Person and location names we do but not names of e.g. months, days and languages.

I actually didn't comment on if it worked or not. But I have tried it and even a soft start won't make it work. At least not in Sense.

Well, I had never thought of that.
I WAS WRONG, AND I APOLOGIZE FOR MY EARLIER COMMENT.
I'm curious, even though there is no space between the period (.) and the word marts, does the HD2 still capitalize marts? I thought, in order for the HD2 to "think" that a new sentence has begun, there would have to be a space after the period. Is this not the case?
I'm going to try with my phone.
Be back shortly ...
---------------------------------
I'm back. I did the test and my HD2 DOES NOT capitalize the word "marts" in the example 27.marts, and I have it set to capitalize the first letter of new sentences. In fact, here's what I wrote:
This is a test. However, if we type 27.marts, will it capitalize marts?
No, it didn't!
But, when I wrote the following:
This is a test. However, if we type 27. marts, will it capitalize marts?
Yes, it did!
So, what I wrote originally still applies. I can't see a reason why you'd want to turn off this feature. If someone can give me an example, I will bow down and apologize again.
