Currently I have a 3 way splitter HTCusb -> Power (miniusb) | Audio (3.5mm) | HTC Headset Connection (HTCusb)
What I need is a microphone only 'headset' to go in the headset socket, as the audio is allready being passed to my car's speakers via the 3.5 jack.
Does anyone know if/where somthing like this exists? or should i buy a cheap headset and splice the earphones off?
Also anyone else find the fuze is unable to gain positive charge whilst on and connected to a 12v ciggaret adaptor, it still drains but at a slower rate, but I do not have an offical charger, which may be the problem.

I also have my audio sent to my car speakers. But since the phone thinks I have a headset attached, the phone microphone is disabled. So when it rings, I have to undock it from the cradle and stick it to my ear. I'd love to have just a microphone mounted near the visor. Anyone know where I can find one?

Plug into the HTC headset connection on your adapter, then you have a micropohone. Then plug the 3.5 jack into the end (instead of the headphones)
The large block adapter that came in the box works for me and allows me to use my car speakers w/ aux input and there is no problems with the microphone.
I had this problem with my tilt with the Y splitter adapter, however the multi adapter that comes in the fuze box works for me perfectly.

Hi all
I have a MDA compact which I wish to connect to my car stereo as a handsfree unit. I have an auxiliary input for my stereo.
Is it possible just to purchase a 2.5 to 3.5mm lead for this? I have a gut feeling the mic won't work - please help? Is it possible to buy such a lead with a built in mic?

Hi, I used to have a XDAII which I connected to the auxillary port on my car stereo, just like you suggest. It worked perfectly. When using the phone, the caller's voice woudl come out of the car speakers and the mic was powerful enough to pick up my voice even though the unit was mounted on my windscreen.
Unfortuntely, both the Wizard and the Exec automatically disable the mic when you plug into the headphone socket. Not sure about the MDA comact. Sorry couldn't offer more advice on your particular device, but I hope my experiences help.

I do have the same setup. I can confirm U the mic still work after U plug in the adapter but I normally use a BT headset when I am in the car.
OK, so I assume that if I purchase a 2.5mm to 3.5mm lead, the mic should work?

OK - did some work on this.
I decided to cut the earplugs off of the supplied headset, and attach a 3.5mm socket.
I now have a custom XDA mini lead
All works, however volume from car stereo speakers is extremely low. Any ideas? (Yes, I have checked car volume, phone volume and headphone volume!)

Hi Jackleung, my mic is being diabled, and i am beginning to think that I may not have the right connector. I have a standard 3.5mm connecting the exec. Can you let me know how you have wired your device with the type of connector? You may be able to solve a longstanding problem of mine.

I found my mic was cancelled with the Mini, hence the custom cable.

I think my adapter is just a standard 2.5mm to 3.5mm converter. I tried 2 different adapter (one from Radio shack and the other one from ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-CABLE-headp...ryZ15040QQssPageNameZWD1VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)
Both are working for me (I will try again today and confirm U tomorrow), therefore I think yr problem is in the exec hardware itself.

Yr setup will not work since yr supplied headset adapter has at least 4 connection on the plug compare to 3 on the standard one. The extra connection is for the mic. If U cut the wire like this:
<---- X --- mic+volumn control ------ ear plugs
Then U can no longer use the mic w/ the custom wire. But if U:
<------- mic+volumn control -- X ---- ear plugs
then the mic on yr mic+volumn control will pick up the voice

Thanks for the reply - the lead was cut after the mic but before the earphones.
This was because a standard lead with a 2.5 / 3.5mm adaptor didnt work.
My only issue now is the low volume!

I tried it on my Imate Jam again. My mic on the Jam still works (eg: Voice Command via Cyberon Voice Dial. So do phone conversation) even I use my 2.5mm/3.5mm adapter to connection it to my car stereo.

I did the same for me and a friend of mine with a Univer..er - Jasjar and connected this to an FM transmitter - We have excellent sound quality, volume and the you can still answer calls by pressing the Mic Button

I have done exactly what you did, put a 3.5mm socket on the end of the included handsfree cable.. volume is fine, and i regularly connect it to the aux in the car, and multiple sets of headphone/speakers...
The best suggestion to your volume problem is to try again.. i know i had issue with the stereo channels getting screwed up (and even combined at one point) and it was just trial and error getting the connections clean..
You have to ensure that both the shaft and tip connectors on the socket are grounded to the shared ground on the circuit board.. otherwise the audio will probably be less than perfect.. check for dodgy soldering/connection.. coz i can assure you that your theory does work!

I have an Audi A3, which has an AUX port to connect an MP3 player, so that it plays over the car radio/speakers. (FYI: The AUX port is wired into the CD changer of the Car radio).
I was wondering if a cable exists that can connect to the VARIO (tilt) into aux, so when the phone rings it plays through the speakers. Im hoping that the mic on the phone is good enough to pick up my voice which it sits in the cradle.
I could also use this link up to play mp3s on the tilt as well.

fyi, if you just get a mini usb to 3.5mm plug, the mic on the phone will mute itself once you plug that 3.5mm adapter plug, so you can hear the caller but no matter how loud you scream, the other party won't be able to hear you.
I had the same idea before, tested it and it didn't work. That's why I had to order this adapter from ppctech.

Just after some input on connecting to a car stereo. My thoughts
1) I have read the guide on creating your own mini usb to 3.5mm jack plug cable and have also seen similar things for sale
2) I have seen on a car forum for the car i own a guide for making a cable connecting 3.5mm jack plug to the AUX on the car stereo (used for the cd changer).
3) I can charger my kaiser through a usb cable in the car.
4) There is obviously a power source on the stereo.
Given the above, would it be possible in theory to have a direct connection between the phone usb and the stereo that would allow the phone to play through the stereo and also charge it at the same time?
I dont want to go through the process of doing it if there is some fundamental reason why it cant be done.

Of course you could. But keep in mind that your microphone won't work for most usb+3.5mm adapter. It's very troublesome to pick up the phone. I would recommend you to opt for BT route. e.g. Stereo bt headset w/ 3.5 mm adapter like Sony Ds-220 or BT head unit like JVC BT-1
Something you might have to research is alternator whine.
I made a lead myself as you described. But as long as the device was charging There would be a buzzing coming from the speakers. This went away when running on battery power and when the device was fully charged.
I also tried a bluetooth device, and again if I tried to use it while it was charging I would get the dreaded buzzing.
I still have not found a solution. FM transmitters have never worked either for me. There is not enough space between channels here.

You can solve this by installing ground looping isolator if the power source from yr car is not clean

I have a bluetooth stereo in my cab and my phone connects to the stereo using the bluetooth, I am also able to use Btmusic and play anything on my phone thru my car stereo its great for the odd file just wish it would do video as well thru bluetooth.

The original mic supplied works okay for me with the headphones chopped, but its very echoey even mounted as far from my speakers as possible so would agree with the above.
Ive the same setup in my car. The phone stuff was easy, it was getting the right VAG adapter to fit my cars HU that gave me the most trouble.
I also hardwired in my charging cable to keep it tidier and my cig lighter free, might be worth thinking about.
I have made a start on this. I have wired in the cable from the Car stereo and at the moment this ends with a 3.5mm Jack Plug. I have also bought the YC A200 cable from HTC which allows connection of the 3.5mm jack plug, a wired headset and also mini usb charging. In fact two of the HTC cables were delivered to me (one ordered but 2 delivered and invoiced) so I might use one as a development cable.
So far - music plays through stereo ok, not over impressed with the quality so far but am going to fiddle with the settings. SatNav also plays through the stereo - much easier to hear. I have had an issue this morning when having music playing and satnav running that the GPS signal was being lost. Not sure if this is a problem with running the two things at once or an interference issue from somewhere. I have never had problems with the GPS before. Am going to do a soft reset and try again on the way home tonight.
I was looking at hardwiring the charging cable to tidy things up and free up the lighter socket. I was going to use the 12v feed from the stereo. Is there anything I need to do or be aware of on this?
How does the mic etc work? I know you can use the headset but I would prefer to use the car speakers if possible. We also have a number of old nokia car kits at work which I was thinking of using for the mic. Would the speaker side work if I connected the relevant cables from the headset port on the HTC adaptor to the 3.5mm jack plug connections?
Im just using the mic from the supplied headset, chopped off the cable past the mic/volume slider and mounted it in the car. Call audio comes through the car speakers.
To hardwire the charger in you need step the voltage down from 12v to the needed 5v. I took a live and earth from the back of the stereo, took apart a usb cig charger and soldered the cables into it, put it back together and hid it behind the dash. Then just took a mini usb cable from that up to the 3in1 plugged into the phone.
SRSWOWHD cleaned my sound up considerably using Pocketplayer.
Well, my experiences so far,
Got the HTC YC A200 cable
1) Playing music through car stereo works great
2) GPS works fine most of the time, still not sure what the problem is, mainly voice directions not working properly all the time
3) Charging via the cigarette lighter socket, still got to hard wire the charging
Latest development
Got a Nokia car kit mic, just had to trim the locking lugs off the 2.5mm (or is it 2mm) jack plug. The mic works fine and the caller can hear me ok. The sound comes through the stereo but is not as loud as the music but i can change this slightly by fiddling with the plug, gets louder or quieter but still not the same volume as the music.
Any ideas? Would it be that the HTC adaptor is expecting the htc wired headset?
removing alternator whine / hum
Finally solved the alternator whine / hum over at my place too. Key is to take the power for the charger directly from the power feeding the car stereo. That way both the stereo and charger reference the same ground which eliminated the ground loop and thus the alternator noise.

Mine works when I plug mine into my car with a standard 3.5mm stereo cable.
Does the cable you're using have 1 or 2 black stripes on the plug?
i agree, this feature was one of the most pleasant surprises for me with the HD2.
on my kaiser, i used a special HTC headset that had an inline microphone (which i snapped on to my shirt collar) and this headset allowed me to plug in a standard 3.5mm stereo jack, which my car audio was plugged in to. this was the best solution at the time for the kaiser that allowed me to keep all cables connected and be able to use the car's speakers and have a working microphone all at once.
but with the HD2...WOW!!! i plugged in my car stereo's 3.5mm stereo jack straight into the HD2 and put on some music and started driving. a call came in while driving and i just pressed answer because i was still used to my kaiser set up (i had owned the HD2 for less than 24 hours at this point so wasn't quite used to it yet).
i started hearing the other party and i started speaking. and the other party could hear me. and THEN it hit me...i was like, holy hell!!!...what am i speaking in to? how come the other party can hear me?

I think it has two stripes since it's a stereo jack. I'm not sure but i think initialy I was able to speak in the car with the leo plugged into the stereo. May be some app I've installed later changed something?!?
the built in mic will stay active unless u have a cable with 4 connections (3 rings on the plug), a regular stereo cable has 2 rings. I've been using this type of setup for a couple of years with my previous phone, a.k.a. iphone. The mic is pretty sensitive and can pick up your voice rather well. I have my hd2 clipped to my sunvisor for easy access and routed the wiring inside the windshield molding down under the dashboard to the stereo and it works pretty good.

I still use my Dell X51v PDA but now the audio socket is faulty, due to constant use over the years.
I have started using a BT headset for my Nexus 7 and it works well but I also bought a 3.5mm Stereo Jack Socket to 3.5mm Stereo Male Right Angle Plug hoping to keep this in place on the bottom of the tablet and just plug my wired headset, or external speakers, into it as required. This works well except that as this adaptor is plugged in it will then disable the audio feed to the main speaker, which is normal I suppose.
Is it not possible to have the speaker of the tablet working and at the same time have this adaptor plugged in or is it a switch which is operated on the insertion of a 3.5mm plug which will always disable tablets speaker....?
Next point is when I have paired my BT headset to the tablet is it also possible to pair a BT keyboard to it as well...? I have never paired more than one BT device at once so I do not know what limitations there are.....?
