Does anyone experience the free program memory problems in XDA Mini? In my case, after a day of usage, the memory reduce to 14 mb, when doing a soft reset, the free program memory go up to 24 mb, means I need to soft reset every days?
Note: normally I use the phone, Pocket Informant (calendar, contacts) and sms only.
Instead of doing soft reset, just go into:
Settings - System - Memory - (Running Programs tab).
You'll probably find a lot of open programs there. Close them.
Seems to be a major design fault in the Windows Mobile OS. But then again this is product from Microsoft we are talking about - not exactly a shock that they would, without hesitation, release software with such a major failing.
I think what IvorNeo 2 means is that even without any active programs, the storage/program memory will become very low over time. This has happened to me as well. With only Activesync and Batmon 2 active, memory level fell to sub-500K level and phone needed a soft-reset to regain functionality. Phone was not in use at the time (charging).
There are some other threads discussing how to free up memory, but I haven't come across any fixes for this particular bug (yet).
i have the same problem
in my s100 , the memory reduce to 19 mb,after 2 or 3 days when doing a soft reset, the free program memory go up to 27 mb

Very nice , if someone can solve this bug

For me there are are 3 reasons why memory starts to decline:
Activesync eats up about 3MB each time you sync up and though it returns some when you kill the app it does not return the entire amount
html cache files when I surf with the device - gotta empty these along with the cookies...etc
duplicate processes and notification ques that pile up when you soft-reset the device. Over time these tiny bytes add up.
There's no fix for the main culprit of the memory loss - Activesync, maybe newer versions won't be so bad.
the same problem to me, I`m nor sure if it`s beacuse of aactive sync
This happens to my girlfriend's Mini and she does not browse nor does she use Activesync. Also I installed a program to get rid of the duplicate ques. In theory then she should not lose memory but she still does. It is just how Windows works....when you use programs you never get back 100% of the memory upon closing. Soft resets are just a necessary evil with Windows.
The latest version of SKTools has an additional neat feature to free-up RAM.
sk tools very useful program
but even this one works not so good as a soft reset.
Or with 64 mb RAM you can use oxios memory
http://www.oxios.com/memory/
be sure your programm memory less than 21mb while trying to free your memory up.
I have quite a lot of programs installed, most of them in Storage and TT5.x in SD card. Most DLL's also in Storage. I set my Prog Storage memory to 6.5-7 MB and I have over 30 MB for programs after applying SKTools FreeUp RAM utility.

Isn't this a smartphone software? Will it work on wm5?
find out!
for magician good solution
@rustoss,
does this little applet close the running processes automatically once exitted?
thanx
hibernate.exe emulate filling memory till 90% & then system trying to clean possible RAM by itself i think so, i know exactly this action do the SKtools's freeupRAM, noone prog or process cannot be terminated by both.
closeapps.exe can!
a question about the topic: Rustoss do u have posted any prog here? because I'm not seeing it if it is
MocciJ
No, just put
Hi, I really like using emulator on my wizard. But I need around 33MB Program memory free to use one of my favorites. Is there any way to get that kind of program memory free? After a soft reset I have around 27MB free , what can I do to free up about 5 to 6 MB more?
Please someone help me out on this one?
Thanks!
Buy a storage card, thats what they are for.

Thnx for you reply, but I'm talking about Program memory, not Storage. I own a 1GB storage card, and I know what they are for
I'd like to know too, I only have 25mb free after soft reset. I'm guessing you don't have any Today screen plug-ins, which gives you 2mb more than I, as I have Pocket MSN, PHM Launch, SmartSKey, OmapClock, and vBar all running. btw, is the program you want to run PocketGBA, because that's the app. I want to free up my program memory for in order to play 32mb carts?

Lol, yes, that is the app I want the free memory for, nice to see another emu fan.
And yeah, i have to no today-screen plugins loaded. I really hope someone has a solution to this.
I hope so too as well, but so far you have the most free memory of anyone i've seen on the forum. Too bad we can't apply storage extended rom memory to program memory like previous OS'...
yeah, I understand why it's usefull to have the program mem seperate from the storage, but it was pretty cool to be able to increase your program mem with the slider...
But back then all of the memory was the same RAM no matter if it were used for programs or storage, now with persistent storage it's seperate memory and the flash memory is much much slower you wouldn't want to reallocate it like that anyways.
so there isn't a solution for this?
Try running in safemode
Safe mode releases all the plugins and programs to run in memory.
SPPOCKETPLUS have this utility.
Hi All,
We all know that Hibernate app doesn't work much and all of us end up having 14 MB RAM without doing anything,we also know that most of it is used by gwes.exe which bloats.
I hv been studying this phenomenon and hv come up with some observations/solution.Pls try and post here.
-One need the Hibernate App(Also called as Oxis Memory) and the one attached.
--The attached app removes all the today plugins with single touch. We all must not be using Today plugins all the time, except when needed.
--So if we follow this, one consistently has 22-26 MB of free RAM, which minimises the call delay, fast opeing of Messaging App, etc etc.
--I use,iLauncher,Fizz traveller,vBar, Pocket RSS, Speed Dial as Today Plug ins. When I use the app, I have 22 MB and when use Hibernate App o this my RAM increases to 24-26 MB.With MSN on line and NetFront 33 Running I have 18.6 MB of free RAM...
I think this helps little bit so far to solve this Memory Problem
Did you used it with WM05 (Xda Exec) ?
From some trial and error I managed to find a way to get a few more megs of ram available for everyday use.
First and foremost, when disabling the Phoneskin on a WM5 device makes a big difference, disables the phonepad dial and speeds up the device. Still, by looking within the services running, the I noticed that the PhonePad dll files are still registered in memory and taking up space even if the skin is actually disabled.
Thus removing the HKLM/SERVICES/PhonePad key freed up some extra RAM.
I suggest making a copy of the key if you ever need to use the PhonePad later.
After a reset the PDA should have a few more megs ram available
Let me know of how much ram it freed up for you
Hey eman,
What exactly is the phone pad? The soft keypad in the phone application that mimics a regular phone pad? Seems right, I'm just double checking.
Cheers.
No difference for me. Also I was still able to dial numbers on the regular phone pad so I cannot see what this registry is about?...
yeah what does this do? do u mean u cant se the telephone on screen pad??
I think it means that instead of loading the phone operator's skin for the phone it uses the default one from HTC. I had disabled the operator skin a while back but I'm trying this now.
First of all this is a well-known hack for a long time. If somebody need it look after it in this forum.
This hack just turns out the customisable graphical dialler skin but you have left the original HTC dialpad which you can see always when you enter your pin-code if your SIM-card needs it when you turn it on.
And yes, it is true, that it gives us some free megabytes to the RAM, but it has to be noticed that after this hack you have to forget the video-call function, because this is a skin-related function.
I've been using this hack since I bought my universal. It worths for me.
I have usually from 21MB to 27MB RAM without soft reset with installed lots of application and I can increase it when it is lower with 'refresh today'-function and Oxios Hibernate (the earlier version, because it is faster without the screen note) application.
So, if in your country video calling is not a famous service you should activate this hack.
Oxios Hibernate
Would you share the old Oxios version or can you post a valid link? I couldn't locate it on the net.
What tool do you use to refresh the today screen? SK, Mortscript or something standalone?
Thanks

There is 1.4 version now. I suggest to use an earlier version, because this new is more complicated, and when you push the shortcut you created, the execution takes a bit longer than with that previous version, and it writes to screen in a small window the released memory which is unneccessary, because all of us are using a today meter for memory i'm sure. So that was enough in the version i use just pushing the shortcut and receiving more memory without anything to do.
I refresh todayscreen with Dinarsoft HandyMenu.

free memory
Is memorymaid the kind of application, or am i wrong?
none memory difference detected

QuickMenu 2.7 Its brilliant i have replaced oxios and just about any taskmanager you can think of
sktools is very good at it
SKTools FreeUP RAM
The FreeUP RAM function of SKTools. I use it daily. Eventually have to soft reset every couple of days to gain back all RAM, however.
Free memory with Oxios
I use Oxios Close Apps 1.4, very fast. The thing I don't like about SKtools is the big window it opens with SKtools logo... it's too ugly. Pocket Mechanic is very good too, but there is no single tap link to free memory, so I have to run the software, pick some options before start the free routine: boring. But is the most effective of all.
Oxios Close Apps/Hibernate - the best. Just assign them to your hard key using HButton whenever you want to release RAM.
thanks ericksonlk, EazyVG
Oxios is really good and has a tiny small size
thanks again
Memmaid is the best.
Are progs like this really usefull?
I mean is there any differnece in speed?
Can't really belive they make any differences!
about "Oxios Hibernate" after I run it.
If I toggle the screen OFF it won't turned ON again
why ????

STools also have scheduler function to running FreeUP RAM.

It seems, you not know all FreeUP RAM functions of SKTools. You can take a look in shortcut manager.

absolutely. I've been using Oxios for a while now, and the Hibernate function reallty makes a difference. I often free up 2-3Mb when I run it, and it often makes the difference between out of memory errors and programs running.
it's worth cooking into a ROM (hint-hint) and I should probably look at ways to have it auto-run at times, but Hibernate is in my Start Menu.
To the original question about speed: No freeing RAM has no impact on speed in and of itself, but since you are freeing up RAM for running apps you can run possibly more apps at once without an error or windows trying to manage the available memory, which could cause some response issues.
