hi is there any way to install an flash to the camera? thanks

there any way to install an flash to the camera?
Yes Indeed ,here are instructions :-
1.get one of those flash's from those old kodak cameras from the 1980s , check on ebay if you have any difficulty from kodak.com
2. attach two wiires from the flash , connect these to the htc touch hd mobo.
3. be sure to check my next post , for further details

flash for hd
I have some magnesium powder that you could light at the right moment. be careful though as it can be dangerous indoors.
or you could wait for a stormy night and make use of lightening. be careful though as this can also be dangerous.
you could also sellotape an old 35mm camera to your HD and make sure you press the buttons at the same time
Does anyone know how to add a small diesel engine to the hd and this could be converted to supply 5v... perfect no need to worry when away from the mains!

ironically, when I had my sony ericcson w800, it had a real good flash for a phone (2 super bright led's), there actually was an add-on for an external flash that would plug in to the bottom (stock SE charging/syncing port).
this would look ugly, but work:

at least it't not permanently stuck to your phone.

HTC Camera: thin blue line?

Hi helpers! In the camera viewfinder image and in the resulting photos/videos I get a thin blue vertical (or other color) line where the lower edge of an app title bar would end (on the right hand side of the screen) This didn't happen when I had the standard O2 xda neo rom (which probably came with a different camera app and driver version)
Am using: HTC camera ver 3.02 build 23018
Do you also get this thin vertical line? Its incredibly annoying...
what ROM do you use, search I posted drivers of the camera here
do you overclock your CPU?
Have got the permanent thin blue (or green line) in the viewing area and in the result picture since moving from an original o2 germany rom.
Specifically I get it with:
- NVID 2.2 WM50 (the rom used to switch to, before upgrading to WM60 - this ROM upgrades the SPL and IPL!!)
- Smart1v2 WM60
- TrueNeytral WM60 1.4 (newest version)
And no I'm not overclocking. However, even at 270Mhz the camera takes good fotos and videos with no strange colors (NVID and SMART1 cameras were unusable overclocked).
Am currently running the TrueNeytral WM60.
Is no one else getting this? Very strange. I would be grateful for any help.
Try dissamblying your phone and check the camera flex for dust or something. Plainly unplug and plug the camera once again.
Can you unplug the camera??? that would be fantastic!!! I am actually not allowed to take the phone to work as it has a camera in it.
How do I do that? I've opened up my phone and couldn't see where to unplug... do I have to pull out the whole daughter-board?
you have to open the whole phone to see the board. check out on google or here for dissamblying toutorial. Its pretty much the same as magician or charmer.
thanks, I'll give it a try (again).
dust or unflixable will not make a then vertical line I think
it may be driver (((I had one with ATI RADEON, gone when have new driver))) try the 2.20 official Qtek
or hardware, the device has a big shock and it can't be fix
I get blue dots in low light places when have more light it gone
I hope it is dust or if you plug it and unplug it it will be slove, but be carefule you will lose warranty if you have one check the warranty services
Due To Overclocking Only
1. disable overclocking causes remove thin blue/green line from camera

USB Camera flash

Hello all,
I have a flash which fits onto the bottom of alot of Nokia phones. see link
http://www.nokia.co.uk/A4222112
Great bit of kit if the phone doesnt have a flash.
I am wondering if there is anything like it out there or if it is possable to send a signal to the Mini USB conector that it is taking a photo and i can rig something up.
Is it possable ?????
Is it??
Thanks yall.
It could be possible, but look at the connectors. I don't believe so.
If you are looking for a flash with a mini usb connector (like our phones), there was one for the tmobile sidekick I color.
Someone would have to figure it out and write some software (I guess) to make it work.
wow.. i used to have that flash way back in the day for my nokia 7610!!
as for customizing a flash for a kaiser.. i dont know, but one of my friends has an iphone and what he does is keeps one of those mini LED flash lights (about the size of your pinky) and he uses that when he wants to take pictures, works out pretty well.

Camera - cmos sensor problem?

Few days ago, my camera started giving me problems. I get green ish and pink ish distorted image all over. And when I snap, the picture taken is all green (or grey when seen in resco picture viewer).
Actually I hardly use the camera. Although the camera in my opinion is quite ok but not that great and furthermore, I prefer not to waste my battery power by taking camera shots with my Dopod u1000. i usually use my sony errisson k850i instead for taking pictures.
Therefore I can live with not having a camera on my Dopod u1000. But if anyone can enlighten me about why my camera can suddenly become like this I will find peace of mind.
Could it be the cmos sensor problem and if it is then how to fix it? Is it something I cannot do by myself but must go back to HTC service center?
Is it camera drivers problem? I know that the device must have some drivers in built such as the USB and microdrives drivers and that these drivers doesn't come with the rom upgrades.
I did disassemble the unit for other reasons but I suspect the problem was not because of the disassembling the unit. In fact if I remember well, there was something not quite right with the last camera shot I took even before I disassembled the unit. I clicked and the screen went dark for quite a while before the picture appeared.
Thanks
I found an interesting website about cleaning the camera sensor. Unfortunately, there is a negative side to all the methods recommended. That makes it look like it has to be left to professionals. But the problem is camera professionals will not know how to dismantle our Dopod u1000 pocket pc even though they know about digital cameras. they might damage other parts of the pocket pc. So, it has to be either done personally or it has to be done by HTC service department.

I'm experiencing the same problem and quite sure that is a software problem. I swith the jpg compression from Super Fine to Fine and apparently the problem is gone. When I tried to get back to Sufer fine the problem restart. I would recommend that you reinstall the SW for image if nothing else help. if some one come out with another approach I would like to hear.
cphilip, how did you settle the strap, using the speaker grilled door? it's strong enough? it's something that I miss in my Advantage.
Yes. The anthena casing is made of aluminium. Very strong. Not plastic. At least the casing of my Dopod u1000 is strong and I would believe the Athena is the same. My friend accidentally dropped his unit on to hard floor but the internal parts are perfectly protected by the strong casing. the plastic cover around the camera and the bottom battery cover are the weak parts and can be broken if not careful.
I would love to get the software drivers for the camera. When we buy laptop or desktop, we are usually provided with a set of drivers for the components connected to the main board. Unfortunately, for Pocket pc, we are not given a set of drivers (softwares) so that we can reinstall if anything gets corrupted. I doubt if the some of these drivers comes together with the ROM upgrades for the Athena. The ROm upgrades for Athena are mostly made up of the Windows Mobile operating system that is designed to work with the Athena correct me if I am wrong on this.
Even though I love Michy's WM6.1 ROM, I have already reflashed my unit with the Dopod windows mobile 6 stock rom and the camera is still the same.
BTW, I used a simple string to go through the grill and when I manage to pull the string out from the other side, I tie the string to my strap. then I carefull pull the string to guide the strap through the grills.
Thanks, I though about the same but was affraid the strap will eventually broken the case speaker grill. will do it now.
on the camera problem check on this fórum for the HTC camera and camera album software download and try them. it may bring your camera to live again.
Although the grill of the athena cover is strong But I wouldn't advise on swinging the device with your strap because the string of your strap might wear down and snap if you do it often enough. For me, I like to have the strap around my wrist when reading an ebook in public places because i feel some extra security just in case i accidentally let go of my Athena.
did you get any progress on making your camera working?

thanks for your concern and suggestions. unfortunately, i downloaded and tried the softwares but still not resolved. At the moment I am just using my U1000 without the camera and all is fine. if i need to take pictures i will just use my k850i.
But will definitely appreciate any new ideas that might help to restore the camera. Until than the other features of the Athena x7500 is provinding almost all my mobile computing needs. Thanks

Camera replacement and silly question about the leds.

Hi all,
I'm getting an HTC Magic (I don't have it yet), but it comes with the 3 mp camera, wich I really don't like. The thing is, the camera is easy to replace according to the service manual, and the kernel source brings the possibility to choose between the 3.1 and the 5 mp camera, so I'm trying to find one on the internet to replace the original when it comes. Does anybody know of some place where I could find spare parts for it? (some service center or chinese manufacturer who has spares)
The silly question is also related to the camera, but differently. The question is, does the magic has the typical leds on the front indicating network /bluetooth/wifi/ gps status? (those lights that light orange when charging, flash on green when there's network coverage and stuff). I'd really want to get it some kind of led flash for the camera...
Regards!
www.cnn.cn is one ive used for some parts of htc diamond, i have had no trouble with this website.
it doesnt have any parts for the magic though, but that could be just a matter of time.
but is it really possible to replace the cameramodules? thats really interesting.
Thanks! I'll keep an eye on the following weeks, maybe I'm lucky and they get stock soon
BTW, the camera module can be detached from the assembly by disconnecting a simple connector. I assume the 5mp camera is of the exact type to make it easier to assembly both variants at htc. Then it's a matter of entering or a boot parameter to the kernel, or simply hack the kernel so it always use the 5mp one .
About the flash, I think I might use the trackball led, if it's easy to access and I get room for the wires in there (everything is pretty tight and I don't want to screw too much with the phone just yet -it's less than a week old after all-)
Regards!

Usefull tools

Hello,
I have an idea:
Posting what are some usefull tools for hardware hacking. Both hand tools and software...
I think it would be a good reference...
What do you think?
1) a screw driver set, probably like those used for mobile phone repair. I got one with 33 interchangeable bits.
2) a digital multimeter, the more checking options the better. Or simply a cro( oscilloscope)
3) a good antistatic soldering iron( prefer goot from japan). Hot air gun with temp and air control ( optional)
4) thin solderwire, good white flux, ipa or tinner, desoldering wick, desoldering pump, soldering - de soldering assist kit( optional)
5) magnifying glass or stand with illumination, a portable filament lamp( in case u have to dry out a circuit board with ipa or thinners) , pcb holding stand( i got one with a magnifying glass too). A small magnet or box to keep unscrewed screws, so that u may not get screwed up by lossing some of them.
6) bunch of wires, pins, jacks, and a plugsocket or extension box with fuse protection and univeral plugs( i made one myself)
7) last but not least.. virtualy every thing u need for a particular work, its bit electrical and electronics. So any thing u can manage will become a tool.
8) a bench powersupply with 0-30 v adjustable option( i modified a comp smps to get it, smps supply gives stedy and stable supply compared to transformer based ones. Though it gives max 12v o/p it is enough for most works, as i got another 0-30v transformer based supply, i never had to use it for any of my mobile based works). A ups if u want.( the comp ups with 700w is a good option)
Rules;-
1) always keep ur workplace neet
2) keep all tools handy, and easily accessible from where u sit.
3) use good lighting( i made a 3w led adjustable handle lamp with lense, so that it focus properly on my work area only, keep the light so that it dont falls directly on ur eyes)
4) do handling of static objects with bare foot on ground, just to avoid static charges from ur body. Or use antistatic matts and wrist bands
5) use of correct tools makes ur work clean and also saves lot of time.
6)never mess up ur work place with wires, chargers, datacables, tools, etc..
7)patience ... hope ...determination ... optimism ...( with out these u will never gona make it)
Thats all.. i got for now.( or what that came into my mind for now) . U all add some more spice if u have`em.
Hit the thanks button if i helped u...
Regards
Shah

Very good reply....
Anyone else want to add anything?
I think that covers it. Other things that I would add is an assortment of clips for probing / attaching. Maybe a scope but I don't think that is required for much. As for software, I don't know, I don't use a lot of software but I find adb and Kies being really useful.
Software's:-
1)XS ++ :- software for flashing/ moding sonyericsson Java phones
2) setool :- same as above, with more options
3)a2tool:- same as above but for newer se Java phones
4)universal box, jaf box, :- Nokia,LG,se,etc flashing.( Java phones)
5)ireb, f0recast,:- iPhone
6)adb,hd2 tool kit, alpharevex, goldcard tool,z4root,gingerbreak,android kitchen, android sdk, Odin multiflasher, :- tools for android devices
7)wp7 toolkit, wp7sdk, zune, wxap assistant, update cab sender, multi xap installer, hspl / spl installer :- windows phone tools.
Dudes these are few tools I had used, but not all, its hard to mention all, as thousands of them are out there..
The main info I can give is to Google searching your need with "tool" at its end. U will get it.
Eg:- xperia arc unlocking tool, sensation XE rooting tool, etc...
from hd2 running hyperdroid 5.7 on dorimanx 3.8
HW dev tools and asociated SW here :
just google for "microchip technology android" they have many others
Core phone analyse/modding stuff? JTAG + OpenOCD/CrossWorks. Allows to debug/resurrect/low level software and hardware analyse any ARM based phone if JTAG pads are exposed.

Does anyone have experience with gas soldering irons?
Thank you all very much. Very good info
agree
+1 for this thread. very useful
Shadow, u mean oxy-acetline torch used for welding or gas soldering iron like those of hako,?
I got one gas soldering cum heating soldering iron, portable, interchangeable bits, but its too hot for mobile reworking, u can burn ur board.

Did no one mention a signal generator for injecting signals?
Most modern multimeters / oscilloscopes have signal injection features, even cheep chinees multimeters have it. Its ok for normal use

The Rigol DS1052E mentioned above is excellent, although honestly I wouldn't buy it from DX. I live in the USA bought mine from Saelig - it has been replaced by the 100 MHz DS1102E for $400.
The Open Bench Logic Sniffer can be a powerful tool, I honestly have barely used mine so far though.
There's an open hardware JTAG dongle (Bus Blaster) that is very inexpensive, but I do not know if it supports target voltage levels low enough for interfacing with most phones.
Other cool stuff for general hardware/microcontroller learning/experimentation:
Gadget Factory Papilio - FPGA learning/development board
Adafruit Boarduino - Inexpensive breadboard-compatible Arduino hardware. I strongly recommend using AVR-GCC instead of the Arduino IDE though
Adafruit ATMega32U4 breakout board - Make a USB peripheral for only $20!
The cheep solution for replacing expensive digital oscilloscopes, tracers, injectors, and every thing that read signals and show it on a screen.
A laptop/netbook/computer and a data logger card.
A netbook+multichannel( max upto 8 analog+digital i/o channels is enough) will cost u 1000-1500$ and will be a good companion. As far,, all of us have pc or laps. So its what we have to spend few hundreds for data logging card. Thats it. Multipurpose multisolution device. Possibilities are vast.. compared to ossiloscopes etc.
