HTC Camera: thin blue line? - JAMin, XDA Neo, S200 General

Hi helpers! In the camera viewfinder image and in the resulting photos/videos I get a thin blue vertical (or other color) line where the lower edge of an app title bar would end (on the right hand side of the screen) This didn't happen when I had the standard O2 xda neo rom (which probably came with a different camera app and driver version)
Am using: HTC camera ver 3.02 build 23018
Do you also get this thin vertical line? Its incredibly annoying...

what ROM do you use, search I posted drivers of the camera here
do you overclock your CPU?

Have got the permanent thin blue (or green line) in the viewing area and in the result picture since moving from an original o2 germany rom.
Specifically I get it with:
- NVID 2.2 WM50 (the rom used to switch to, before upgrading to WM60 - this ROM upgrades the SPL and IPL!!)
- Smart1v2 WM60
- TrueNeytral WM60 1.4 (newest version)
And no I'm not overclocking. However, even at 270Mhz the camera takes good fotos and videos with no strange colors (NVID and SMART1 cameras were unusable overclocked).
Am currently running the TrueNeytral WM60.
Is no one else getting this? Very strange. I would be grateful for any help.

Try dissamblying your phone and check the camera flex for dust or something. Plainly unplug and plug the camera once again.

Can you unplug the camera??? that would be fantastic!!! I am actually not allowed to take the phone to work as it has a camera in it.
How do I do that? I've opened up my phone and couldn't see where to unplug... do I have to pull out the whole daughter-board?

you have to open the whole phone to see the board. check out on google or here for dissamblying toutorial. Its pretty much the same as magician or charmer.

thanks, I'll give it a try (again).

dust or unflixable will not make a then vertical line I think
it may be driver (((I had one with ATI RADEON, gone when have new driver))) try the 2.20 official Qtek
or hardware, the device has a big shock and it can't be fix
I get blue dots in low light places when have more light it gone
I hope it is dust or if you plug it and unplug it it will be slove, but be carefule you will lose warranty if you have one check the warranty services

Due To Overclocking Only
1. disable overclocking causes remove thin blue/green line from camera

Camera Problem - Broken Picture

I have problem with my camera after changing whole Main Board in Service. Unfortunately I didn't tested camera with orignal ROM so I don't know if it's HW problem or WM6 problem.
Picture is broken to (mainly) green boxes (see attachments). It already happend with my previous MB and WM6 ROM, but problem disappeared without any intervent from outside. Any Idea what it is and what to do?
I got the same Problem
I got the same problem still trying to find a fix.. flashed my rom a few times and still no change ruuning schap's 4.00 wm6.
Hope to find a solution..
It looks like a software fault but how or were can one find a fix..
I got the same but before it was working fine :s could be because i dropped it a few times to many? not sure though works fine on black satin but now i got the the green blocks to
That does not look like anything to do with the ROM or indeed any software setting. I'd say that's a hardware matter - BUT hopefully just the connection between camera and m/board. If you have no guarantee/warranty then I suggest removal of and refitting the camera.
You'll need to remove the scroll wheel assembly first.
Scroll wheel assembly removed exposing the camera multi-connector. (This connection is the problem I think).
Make sure this connector is flat and firmly inserted.
Mike
This happens to me occasionally. normally when the battery is low.
Though it did happen for a little while after my phone decided it needed to go play in a puddle last christmas. Once it dried out it was fine
i got this when i dropped my handset at first after i dropped this. with with a bit of brute force and a few dropps after it works fine again
Like the above post saying it it nothing to do with the rom or any software it is the connection between the camera and motherboard

wizard freezing, fading to white, rebooting

Hello All,
I have a Wizard and it has a problem. If i close the keyboard too quick, or press on the screen or outter case too hard, the entire thing will freeze. Sometimes it will fade to a white screen and reboot, other times I have to soft reset it. I thought it might be the battery, so I replaced it with no go. I also updated the rom to 3.08 ipl/spl, with a gsm radio of 2.25 and WM6 (jaguar) and it still does it. Therefore, I believe it to be hardware related. Are there any tips/tricks I can do to fix this, or is it a lost cause? I really enjoy the phone and will be upgraded to the tilt in a few months but would like to play with this phone as is right now (as it was free). Any and all help is appreciated.
Thanks guys
im not sure about ur but my phone had a problem kinda like that. i was using it ( namely the flash of the camera) as a flashlite to see a leak and some water got into it( a few drops max ) anyway after that it would turn on properly but after a little while it would just turn white and hang if i took the battery out and then after a min or 2 put it back in it would be ok for another few minutes
so i girded up my loins and downloaded the service manual and opened the phone used a blow drier to dry everything out inside it after taking it apart peice by peice put it back together again ad viola its working perfectly
nyway so maybe some cables loose or something give it a try u got nothing to lose as u said the phone came to u free anyway
Are you guys by any chance overclocking?
overclocking to 247 with variable speeds to conserve battery.
Using Battery Status 1.40 Beta nightly build(with clock) The scalable cpu feature is F'n AWESOME! and the taskbar icons make sure I never open commmanager.
I don't know if it is safe to overclock it anymore than 247... is it??? I'm afaraid to try because I need my phone
wassup, I am not overclocking
docnas, I will try and tear it apart to see if there is a loose connection. I had been thinking along those lines, and will definitely try that out.
Any other suggestions as well?
Well i overclock mine to 260 whenever I use wifi and other programs but lower it back to 195 if I'm doing light taks such as a phone call. With that, everyone in a while when i take it to 260 it will freeze, then fade to a white screen, and restart. Other than that i don't know what other problems that could've cause this.
@ cptcrunch only suggestion is take it slow and easy dont get over eager and snap something ( i did and broke the ear speaker peice luckly one of this great forums members is going to supply me one he had lying around)
Oh and one more thing dont open the LCD screen portion just open it to the main circuit board and check out the 2 connectors ( the large one on the bottom side and a small reddish one on top the large one is the actual LCD screen connector so it might be the culprit
About overclocking im a normal user and have batterystatus installed using cpuscalar feature i have it at 110 195 234 boost 273
never had a problem with these settings but ur miles may vary
I also have a similar problem except mine freezes when I put it in standby mode and then randomly push the buttons under the lcd display (like they would get pushed being in your pocket.) I have no clue why but it takes a hard reset to get it working agian. Im probably going to get rid of it.

Camera - cmos sensor problem?

Few days ago, my camera started giving me problems. I get green ish and pink ish distorted image all over. And when I snap, the picture taken is all green (or grey when seen in resco picture viewer).
Actually I hardly use the camera. Although the camera in my opinion is quite ok but not that great and furthermore, I prefer not to waste my battery power by taking camera shots with my Dopod u1000. i usually use my sony errisson k850i instead for taking pictures.
Therefore I can live with not having a camera on my Dopod u1000. But if anyone can enlighten me about why my camera can suddenly become like this I will find peace of mind.
Could it be the cmos sensor problem and if it is then how to fix it? Is it something I cannot do by myself but must go back to HTC service center?
Is it camera drivers problem? I know that the device must have some drivers in built such as the USB and microdrives drivers and that these drivers doesn't come with the rom upgrades.
I did disassemble the unit for other reasons but I suspect the problem was not because of the disassembling the unit. In fact if I remember well, there was something not quite right with the last camera shot I took even before I disassembled the unit. I clicked and the screen went dark for quite a while before the picture appeared.
Thanks
I found an interesting website about cleaning the camera sensor. Unfortunately, there is a negative side to all the methods recommended. That makes it look like it has to be left to professionals. But the problem is camera professionals will not know how to dismantle our Dopod u1000 pocket pc even though they know about digital cameras. they might damage other parts of the pocket pc. So, it has to be either done personally or it has to be done by HTC service department.

I'm experiencing the same problem and quite sure that is a software problem. I swith the jpg compression from Super Fine to Fine and apparently the problem is gone. When I tried to get back to Sufer fine the problem restart. I would recommend that you reinstall the SW for image if nothing else help. if some one come out with another approach I would like to hear.
cphilip, how did you settle the strap, using the speaker grilled door? it's strong enough? it's something that I miss in my Advantage.
Yes. The anthena casing is made of aluminium. Very strong. Not plastic. At least the casing of my Dopod u1000 is strong and I would believe the Athena is the same. My friend accidentally dropped his unit on to hard floor but the internal parts are perfectly protected by the strong casing. the plastic cover around the camera and the bottom battery cover are the weak parts and can be broken if not careful.
I would love to get the software drivers for the camera. When we buy laptop or desktop, we are usually provided with a set of drivers for the components connected to the main board. Unfortunately, for Pocket pc, we are not given a set of drivers (softwares) so that we can reinstall if anything gets corrupted. I doubt if the some of these drivers comes together with the ROM upgrades for the Athena. The ROm upgrades for Athena are mostly made up of the Windows Mobile operating system that is designed to work with the Athena correct me if I am wrong on this.
Even though I love Michy's WM6.1 ROM, I have already reflashed my unit with the Dopod windows mobile 6 stock rom and the camera is still the same.
BTW, I used a simple string to go through the grill and when I manage to pull the string out from the other side, I tie the string to my strap. then I carefull pull the string to guide the strap through the grills.
Thanks, I though about the same but was affraid the strap will eventually broken the case speaker grill. will do it now.
on the camera problem check on this fórum for the HTC camera and camera album software download and try them. it may bring your camera to live again.
Although the grill of the athena cover is strong But I wouldn't advise on swinging the device with your strap because the string of your strap might wear down and snap if you do it often enough. For me, I like to have the strap around my wrist when reading an ebook in public places because i feel some extra security just in case i accidentally let go of my Athena.
did you get any progress on making your camera working?

thanks for your concern and suggestions. unfortunately, i downloaded and tried the softwares but still not resolved. At the moment I am just using my U1000 without the camera and all is fine. if i need to take pictures i will just use my k850i.
But will definitely appreciate any new ideas that might help to restore the camera. Until than the other features of the Athena x7500 is provinding almost all my mobile computing needs. Thanks

Camera replacement and silly question about the leds.

Hi all,
I'm getting an HTC Magic (I don't have it yet), but it comes with the 3 mp camera, wich I really don't like. The thing is, the camera is easy to replace according to the service manual, and the kernel source brings the possibility to choose between the 3.1 and the 5 mp camera, so I'm trying to find one on the internet to replace the original when it comes. Does anybody know of some place where I could find spare parts for it? (some service center or chinese manufacturer who has spares)
The silly question is also related to the camera, but differently. The question is, does the magic has the typical leds on the front indicating network /bluetooth/wifi/ gps status? (those lights that light orange when charging, flash on green when there's network coverage and stuff). I'd really want to get it some kind of led flash for the camera...
Regards!
www.cnn.cn is one ive used for some parts of htc diamond, i have had no trouble with this website.
it doesnt have any parts for the magic though, but that could be just a matter of time.
but is it really possible to replace the cameramodules? thats really interesting.
Thanks! I'll keep an eye on the following weeks, maybe I'm lucky and they get stock soon
BTW, the camera module can be detached from the assembly by disconnecting a simple connector. I assume the 5mp camera is of the exact type to make it easier to assembly both variants at htc. Then it's a matter of entering or a boot parameter to the kernel, or simply hack the kernel so it always use the 5mp one .
About the flash, I think I might use the trackball led, if it's easy to access and I get room for the wires in there (everything is pretty tight and I don't want to screw too much with the phone just yet -it's less than a week old after all-)
Regards!

[SOLVED] Phone back from HTC service - differences...

Motto:
If you ever walk down the stairs wearing slippers and talking on the phone make sure your free hand is next to the stair handle...
The phone went down through the staircase gap - from the 1st floor directly to the ground.
Aside from the aesthetics and the potential hazard of small pieces of glass going down my ear, everything seemed to work and I could use the phone with full functionality.
I just recieved the phone from the local HTC service after 2 weeks.
I thought only the digitizer will be replaced but instead they replaced the whole touchscreen assembly with 200 Euros:
- screen (digitizer + LCD) ~142 Euro
- middle chassis ~18 Euro
- keypad ~23 Euro
- service fee ~17 Euro
I was told they couldn't replace only the screen because the whole module comes pre-assembled by HTC.
I still don't believe that but I decided not to reject the repair (+ find another service + wait a few more weeks + risk the same or other issues) for the extra 40 Euros...
After thorough testing all day long I find everything is in place but I also notice some differences compared to the original:
-the green LED is not working;
-the screen is noticeably darker on auto-brightness level
I don't think it's a software issue because I reflashed the stock ROM and also the light sensor works, so I guess:
- either the hardware parts made by different OEM are not the same
- or, the sensor and speaker modules weren't remounted properly
Anyway, for now I'm happy to have the phone back and thought it would be nice to share my experience with you...
Edit:
not only the screen is definetely darker in any OS (WM6.5, Android, WP7) but the whites have a subtle green tint
i'm afraid i'll have to send it back but i'll go with another HD2 this time, to prove I'm right...

yea deff send it back. they use returns for parts, so you probably got one that some minor tech took a quick look at and thought 'yea that works' and put it in the spares pile.
thanks for the advice samsamuel
this cannot be "htc authorized" service quality, i am very disappointed...
im 100% its not original lcd... i change lcds ( not hd2 ) every day and how you described definitely thats not right lcd... so like samsamuel said send it back.
things start to get wierder...
the screen seems to get better by itself
to be sure my eyes don't fool me, i compared the min-max backlight levels against both another hd2 (in android) and a desire.
i don't understand how but it looks fine now, even the colors. i use a custom color for the live tiles in wp7 - yesterday it didn't look ok, now it does...
still, the green notif led doesn't work but i don't know if it has anything to do with the screen. as i saw in this video, it looks like the notif leds are integrated in the receiver:
http://pocketnow.com/hardware-1/official-htc-hd2-disassembly-assembly-training-videos-leaked
the most annoying issue however is something i discovered only yesterday. the g-sensor doesn't work at all in any android buid. what's strange is that it works perfectly in both wm6.5 and wp7...
as i found out, i'm not the only one having this issue:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1069578
it's like i'm playing in a "twilight zone" episode...
UPDATE:
the phone came back from the 2nd trip to the repair shop.
- the issue with auto-rotation in android was related somehow to the compass (magnetic field sensor) which apparently didn't work in any os - solved by motherboard replacement (under warranty)
- about the screen brightness - it's not a bug, it's a feature - as i was told, all the screens in the new batch from htc have a slight yellowish tint (visible on white) and i have to live with it
- the notification led works now
