Motto:
If you ever walk down the stairs wearing slippers and talking on the phone make sure your free hand is next to the stair handle...
The phone went down through the staircase gap - from the 1st floor directly to the ground.
Aside from the aesthetics and the potential hazard of small pieces of glass going down my ear, everything seemed to work and I could use the phone with full functionality.
I just recieved the phone from the local HTC service after 2 weeks.
I thought only the digitizer will be replaced but instead they replaced the whole touchscreen assembly with 200 Euros:
- screen (digitizer + LCD) ~142 Euro
- middle chassis ~18 Euro
- keypad ~23 Euro
- service fee ~17 Euro
I was told they couldn't replace only the screen because the whole module comes pre-assembled by HTC.
I still don't believe that but I decided not to reject the repair (+ find another service + wait a few more weeks + risk the same or other issues) for the extra 40 Euros...
After thorough testing all day long I find everything is in place but I also notice some differences compared to the original:
-the green LED is not working;
-the screen is noticeably darker on auto-brightness level
I don't think it's a software issue because I reflashed the stock ROM and also the light sensor works, so I guess:
- either the hardware parts made by different OEM are not the same
- or, the sensor and speaker modules weren't remounted properly
Anyway, for now I'm happy to have the phone back and thought it would be nice to share my experience with you...
Edit:
not only the screen is definetely darker in any OS (WM6.5, Android, WP7) but the whites have a subtle green tint
i'm afraid i'll have to send it back but i'll go with another HD2 this time, to prove I'm right...

yea deff send it back. they use returns for parts, so you probably got one that some minor tech took a quick look at and thought 'yea that works' and put it in the spares pile.
thanks for the advice samsamuel
this cannot be "htc authorized" service quality, i am very disappointed...
im 100% its not original lcd... i change lcds ( not hd2 ) every day and how you described definitely thats not right lcd... so like samsamuel said send it back.
things start to get wierder...
the screen seems to get better by itself
to be sure my eyes don't fool me, i compared the min-max backlight levels against both another hd2 (in android) and a desire.
i don't understand how but it looks fine now, even the colors. i use a custom color for the live tiles in wp7 - yesterday it didn't look ok, now it does...
still, the green notif led doesn't work but i don't know if it has anything to do with the screen. as i saw in this video, it looks like the notif leds are integrated in the receiver:
http://pocketnow.com/hardware-1/official-htc-hd2-disassembly-assembly-training-videos-leaked
the most annoying issue however is something i discovered only yesterday. the g-sensor doesn't work at all in any android buid. what's strange is that it works perfectly in both wm6.5 and wp7...
as i found out, i'm not the only one having this issue:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1069578
it's like i'm playing in a "twilight zone" episode...
UPDATE:
the phone came back from the 2nd trip to the repair shop.
- the issue with auto-rotation in android was related somehow to the compass (magnetic field sensor) which apparently didn't work in any os - solved by motherboard replacement (under warranty)
- about the screen brightness - it's not a bug, it's a feature - as i was told, all the screens in the new batch from htc have a slight yellowish tint (visible on white) and i have to live with it
- the notification led works now

Hi all,
I need help, suggestions, anything with an issue I've had for a while. Since the time I started loading WM6 the screen has been randomly fading to white. I have LSVW latest rom 22/4 SE and 1.40.10 radio and 1.40oli although it doesn't matter what rom you load. I tried going back to WM5 and its better but now still fades to white as well.
on advise from oli and legolas I purchased a new battery but still have the same issue.
I have dropped my phone once which resulted in a crack to the right of the DEL/CR keys so could it be a HW issue and if you think so is it one I could open up the phone and fix?
Any and all help appreciated
IN FACT IF SOMEONE CAN RESOLVE THE ISSUE I WILL DONATE SOME CASH TO THEM!
test
Im updating to
LVSW 4-23 Full, Radio 1.40.30.00, SPL 2.10.Oli, IPL 1.04
seeing if any difference comes out.
This is not the first time this issue has been reported:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-301003.html
The conclusion is that it's hardware related. It may be as simple as one of the internal ribbon connectors having a less than firm connection. It may be brought on my anything from physical movement or pressure to internal pressure if the device gats warm. However, it is possible that there is a failing component. IMHO, a case of take it for replacement/repair or first check connectors if your brave and not worried about a warranty.

HHmmm interesting thread .. the only issue i have out of that is the fade to white one.
Maybe Hardware .. i got the phone off ebay and now it has a crack in it .. so i dare say it isnt under warranty any more. (even though its a max of 6 months old).
It may also be software. I experienced the WSOD on my JASJAM when playing with the GPS-related DLL's. Once this problem appeared when switching on the camera. The screen would turn white and soft reset would not fix this, only power off/on would sort it out. Seems that the drivers do not reset (some of) the hardware to a known state on boot.
Had EXACTLY the same problem. Hoped it would be a software problem. Hard-reset a few times to no avail. Upgraded to a couple of the WM6 ROMs. No change. I did notice that when it was cool it tended not to happen, but after being on the phone a couple minutes or using the PDA for a while, it would do it AGAIN.
One weird thing I noticed was that if I did a Soft-reset and held down the Left Soft-key, I could "force" it to fade to white on start-up! VERY WEIRD.
I finally bit the bullet, and sent it back to Telstra to get it sorted. Didn't want to void warranty myself.
It has been just over 2 weeks since I sent it off, and They have sent this reply...

Subject: RE: Imate JASJAM Problem
Hello, I am emailing about an I-Mate JASJAM phone I sent for repairs early last week (tel # xxx ).
Can you please update me as to status of this repair, as the Telstra shop did not provide me with a second phone while I await return/repair/replacement of the phone.
Thanks,

So, I guess it IS a hardware problem. But then again, that kind of reply, sounds a bit "dodgy" as it doesn't seem to "technical" does it?
Hope this helps.

Their reply was not very technical - does not surprise me however. The people who repair these devices are usually faced with some component/connection/screen or a m/board that needs replaced. They often fail to take account of something as basic as the case pressing on the screen or other components - particularly when device is warm. So they replace the component they think is faulty and then discover the problem is still there. With this issue in particular I think that there are no faulty components just the case is a fraction of a millimetre too tight for the internal components and hence swapping out parts can have no effect. With this fault I advise people to go for a replacement not a repair if possible.
NB: This issue should not be confused with white screen that may appear after installing particular software or when an application crashes, or when the flashing of a new ROM goes wrong! The hardware issue arises most commonly when the device gets warm or put another way goes white after maybe 10 minutes of use and will continue to go white even after hard reset.
Mike
I have this same problem! =(
My phone screen recently (4-5 days ago) started to go white. I never saw this happen with my own eyes but when i picked up my phone and its sleeping i push the power button to get to an all white screen. I can hear noises when i touch the screen but no image other than white. I can solve this by removing the battery and putting it back in, then my scren works fine....its not verry often just like 1-3 times a day.
I want to try a hard reset but have a question first: My phone is unlocked by the ebay guy i got it from, will a hard reset lock my phone back to Cingular?
Next i want to try upgrading my ROM and Radio and anything else...im looking in the wiki for instructions on how to do this. Any help? What else shouls i upgrade?
Ive only had my Hermes for around 2 months so im new to much of this.
THanks!
I recently purchased a Used Imate Jasjam (Ex Telstra Australia) with this issue.
I pulled the unit apart, and reseated and pressed the Power and LCD Display Data Cables... attempting to ensure they were firmly fastened.
I then upgraded to LVSW's Latest WM6 Release.
I have had the Phone go to White once in that timeframe since. I brought it back by pressing the power button of, then one again.
I don't feel that it's really a "100%" Faulty Part... Because it works fine othertimes. It almost seems as if connections or a Data Cable has an Issue.
I'm intending tonight and using the Phone over the weekend to see if the issue continues to occur.
BAD NEWS!!
Well, got my phone back after a bit over 3 weeks I think? I kept ringing the repair center and emailing. Finally they said it was ready, and was sent back to the shop I bought it from. Rang the shop "no it's not here yet, we will ring you"... now the repair centre to the shop is a 20 min drive... on the 3rd, I rang again at 1pm and "no it's not here yet, we will ring you when it arrives." At this point I was really getting p*ed off. So I went to the shop, and demanded, and guess what was AT the Shop?!?!?!
Anyway, after 1 friggin day, I have lost the Red & Green phone buttons! As of tonight the whole bottom section no longer work, and the screen has gone white again.
The repair report listed 3 things replaced...one was a "bezel" another was a "poly" something. I will get the report a list the replaced bits if anyone likes, but their descriptions are kind of strange if ya ask me.
Anyway, I have to send the phone back for repairs again, which could take another 3 weeks +, which I think is completely PATHETIC OF TELSTRA, especially for the fact they dont give the same phone or even similar to "loan" while I wait for my defective $1300 phone to get "repaired"... (more like 'fiddled with' & "yeah, she'll be right mate"...
GRRRRR!!!!
My girlfriends phone was having the same problem. Try popping out your SD card and putting the phone into/out of sleep and see if that brings back a visible screen. Thats how we determined her situation was a hardware problem and not a problem with the rom.

Yes, sadly this is kind of predictable as I said in an earlier post in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1233420&postcount=7
This is why, as I said, get a replacement not a repair if possible. My view is that the individual components are fine but connectors come loose or the heat generated causes pressure to be put on the screen etc So it's a problem with some cases and how the innards in some cases get squeezed. So off course changing the top poly board, connectors, bezel gasket, may by pot luck make a difference but is just as likely to make no difference at all.

Status Report:
After having my phone playing Video's Through the Night (My Way of a "Stress Test" to Generate Heat) I woke up the find the screen to be "almost completely" White.
Usually its gone completely, however in this instance I was able to see the icons through the whitewash.
I put the phone into sleep and back out and the Display is fine again.
Being that these phones are much easier to pull apart and put back together than my old JasJar I might to do some further experimentation.
I think the issue will have something to do with either one of the following
- Heat
- Pressure on the LCD from Parts Around it
- Faulty Ribbon or Power Leads to the LCD
My suggestions
- In the Case of Heat... I'll run the Same Test, with the Phone Directly in front of a small airconditioning unit I have.
- In the Case of Pressure, I'm going to look and see if I can place some extra Insulation Tape or Similar on the Phone to relieve this
- I wish I could find somewhere to buy the Replacement Ribbon Cables but I don't know where I can get them in Australia... any ideas?

We wait to see. Mind you one guy on these boards found he could get half an hour from his device if he put it in the freezer for a while - so I'm not sure that air-con will be strong enough!!!
Mike
Well Results.....
After pulling apart the unit and reconnected, I think I found my cause to simply be excess pressure.
I've removed the "Black Plastic" Micro SD Card from its Blanking Plate.
Since I've done this... not one White Screen Whatsoever.
I don't use an SD Card, so the issue is resolved for me, however it is very interesting.
Could be Pressure or Heat (Small Hole Might Increase Airflow/Allow for Greater Dissapation or something)
Hi folks,
i've also small experience with this "white screen" issue and just wanted to inform you about it.
I got the device from my former boss who did already complain about this "white screen" issue on his O² XDA trion with original ROM. (honestly i did not really believe him due to my experience with couple of other devices so after i got the device i was just wondering - ok back to the facts).
I installed on Friday the Windows Mobile VI Pro - BLACK 2.5 Release and until today it was running (as far as i remember expect one time) nearly perfect w/o white screens. About 45min ago, i flashed the device with BLACK 3.0 Release and got until now about 5-10 times a white screen.
I assume this is not a hardware ONLY issue but indeed very strange.
I'll go back to 2.5 and will look forward if i get again the white screen or it'll be ok.
Cheers so far

You are right to ask the question "is it hardware or software".
1
We know a white screens can arise if folk duff up flashing a new ROM.
2
We know there is a hardware caused white screen that comes and goes often when device gets warm.
3
But there maybe white screens caused by some kinds of crashing software or a buggy ROM etc
Crucially in terms of finding a cure will be distiguishing between these.
2 for most people is easy - take it back and get a replacement.
1 is a matter for the ROM upgrading and fixing boards
3 is a case of trying different ROMs testing 3 party software by selective installation until the problem starts or stops.
In your case I am worried that this is a number 2 device as it did sometimes get the problem before you flashed the ROM and now it's worse. It may only be worse because this particular ROM is generating more heat and consequently more white screens. (see explanations elsewhere).
I suppose if it's an occasional problem you might live with it but otherwise it's replacement at best and repair as a rather dodgy alternative.
Mike
Hey Mike,
well, before flashing the device with a custom ROM, in my opinion it was really difficult to use it.
By flashing it with V 2.5, it was very good usable and with V 3.0 it returned to become more unusable. Nevertheless, i upgraded 10min ago with HARD-SPL-V7 and it's running fine now (i've been wating with downgrading to V 2.5. If it returns to become unstable, i will downgrade to V 2.5 again.
I'll keep you informed.
yes for this particular "white screen" issue it will be useful to hear how things go - thanks
Mike
White screen - in my case definitely a hardware issue
Hi folks,
i was testing and playing around with my Hermes and today i found the problem (very funny because now i can't reproduce it anymore but just read ahead).
Today i was playing around and after pressing by accident on the case of the Hermes, the screen appeared disappeared and changed into white.
Please download the video i recorded from the attached link - you'll see that it was able to reproduce it by tapping on the case:
http://asuka.descipe.de/dphome/test/HTC_Hermes_White_Screen_issue.mp4
Please use VLC or MPC (additional codecs required) to watch the movie.
Honestly i'm not sure if this can be reproduced by anyone but this makes the whole situation much more clear.
Any feedback is welcome.
Cheers
dear all
I thought I was a lucky owner of the cool s200.
In fact, almost one month ago, the LCD has begun to be less responsive in the upper right part of the touchscreen. In the same zone I could see some kind of "scratches" or let's call them even "dirt bands".
Icons were harder to be recalled, and the "slide to unlock" feature was taking always a bit more of time and tries.
These "scratched area" was enlarging everyday.. and the more it grew, the less responsive the s200 would be.
Today, the Acer s200 definitely stopped responding, although the LCD shows still bright unaltered background image.
Please, have a look at the picture that I posted here
www .marcofama.it/2011/06/acer-s200-neotouch-problema-allo-schermo-lcd-risponde-parzialmente/
This has been shot yesterday
Frankly speaking, I don't know what happened
I was used to change the transparent cover every 3months, never treated the mobile bad, always cleaned the touch surface with cleaning paper for glasses. Never scratched it with keys in my pocket (always used a sock to protect the phone in everyday life).
Anyone knows what might have happened?
I'll open a RMA on Acer website... but this drives me crazy! A 400 EUR device, treated better than anything else.. cannot go broken like that.
Marco
This doesnt sound like a LCD problem.
There is the LCD display, which does the job to show the pictures and there is the digitizer or the touch panel... These touch panels become unresponsive after some time when they are resistive, like our touch panel is.
You could buy it at ebay and change it on your own to make your touch screen behave well again.
but to be honest, ive never seen this "scratches" before

whoa.. thanks for your feedback riotman.
That was my first impression too, as the images were correctly displayed..
I've taken my Acer to the closest Acer point today, and I need to wait for them to analyze it and let me know if that can be fixed under warranty, or not.
I'll keep you posted
thanks for your time!
Marco
Never seen this before on any Smartphone. I think it's maybe a default of connection, or some humidity. It's purely hardware, I think.
i've got the same problem but the warranity ended a month ago and acer won't repair it or take the phone back -.- this sucks..
The neotouch digitizer is poorly sealed, humidity and moisture will eventually find it's way in and start doing what it's currently doing eg, not responding on the oxidized bits.
No solution but to buy another digitizer on ebay and change it,they are cheap and you get the tools to help you do it as part of it.
There is a guide somewhere in here, I'll look for it...edit.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=742642
edit again....I bought this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360364252886&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
I recently broke the digitizer on my T9193 (Telstra Australia) for the second time. As it's a work phone, I took it to a repair kiosk at a local shopping centre rather than attempt the repairs myself.
The first time around the repair was perfect so I went back to the same place for the second repair but I've had nothing but problems since then. I believe that both times they have changed only the digitizer/glass screen because the notes on the receipts read "Replace touch screen only", so I probably have my original LCD.
When I dropped (no pun intended) my phone in for the second repair, they said that it should take about 30 - 45 minutes. I gave them at least 45 minutes but they asked me to give them another 10 minutes, then another 10... Anyway, after almost 2 hours, I asked if there was a problem and they admitted that they were having problems getting the screen to respond consistently and that they wanted to keep working on it overnight but it might be a faulty part that they were supplied. Anyway, they called me the next morning to say that it was fixed.
When I picked it up, I checked that the screen responded and it all seemed fine, so I took it away but I noticed a few minutes later that the screen would not stay off when I pressed the End key - it would immediately come back on. I took it back and they said that they could fix it and to give them another 45 minutes. After another 45 minutes it was behaving properly so I took it and went home. On my way home, I took off the protective film from the screen and found that the digitizer had a T-mobile logo at the top, which I wasn't very happy about since it's a Telstra phone but it is now obvious that it has had at least a new digitizer.
By the time I got home, the battery was almost drained, which I assumed was because they must have been testing it a lot. However, I now find that the battery drain is much faster than before, so fast that there is no way that I can get through about 10 hours at work with a little browsing, a few calls, emails and texts without having it on the charger. Even with a hard reset and only BattLog running to see the current draw with the screen on 30%, it is drawing around 200mA but spiking much higher from time to time or if I use any other applications or use the screen. In standby the draw is around 4-5Ma, which is what it should be but whenever the screen is on it drains so fast as to be almost useless. If I use it the same way that I used to get a full work day's use out of it (with plenty to spare), I'll now get about 3-4 hours
Some other information: the auto brightness no longer works - the current draw increases when i put the sensor near a light source, so it is obviously sensing the increased light intensity and is trying to increase the brightness, but the screen always stays at 30% when set on auto brightness; manual brightness adjustment now works but didn't until I restored to an earlier backup - the adjustment bars had disappeared (although I wonder whether this was due to AEButtons, which I installed for the battery monitor [but could not find] but I also played around with the screen brightness settings in there and uninstalling AEB didn't bring the adjustment bars back); and the screen now sticks out about 1mm above the sides of the phone, not a fraction of a millimetre below.
So, firstly, how can I have a T-mobile digitizer on my original LCD (my understanding is that the T-mobile digitizer has different connectors to the digitizers on other HD2 models)? If it is a t-mobile digitizer, could this be the reason for the high battery drain, non-working auto brightness and poor fit or can I fix these issues myself? Should I go back to the repairer and demand the correct digitizer?
Sorry for the long essay. I really hope that someone can help.
Share your pain man.
...my HD2 have faulty digitizer right now, and it works only when it wants, at least i can pick-up phone calls.
Get back there and ask for replacement, Using T-mobile stock part should happened on Classic HD2 models, thats their fault, request a refund.
btw:
i actually think there are two types of Proximity and light senzors and one of them have some troubles with drivers on android, so uf you are using Droid, it cant be one of that bad type of light senzor, but im not sure. Meanwhile you can try Task 29, Reflash HSPL and reflash ROM. But if it wont help, get it back to your default OS, i know that type of people @ service store...they will see that you changed something in software and use it as their advantage..so try it, but if it wont help get back to state where it was )
Good luck )
And im so sick of theese day devices, battery life, displayes anf faultyness...i have only pain with this Golden Nokia 3310. Seriously
99% for bad repair/parts!
I suspect they messed up somehow your LCD during repairing( most probably when attempted to take apart touchscreen from LCD) and they replaced it with a faulty TMobile one (that explains excessive draining and TMobile touchscreen).
You should go back for a proper repair or some kind of refund!
I wouldn't advise you to DIY!
Good luck!
To exclude software faults, always check back to origin winmo stock rom.
In my opinion, as i did lots of research about replacing screen and digitizer, the most problems apears if only the digitizer was replaced.
Of course, the digitizer is only 20$ and the complete module (lcd+digi) is about 60$. But these 40$ seems to be a good investition...
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Hello,
So my S7 edge got a replacement display due to being broken like 2 months ago. Today purple smudges started to appear, when I used the device for quite some time heavily and it got quite hot. They disappear when I change display mode or when brightness changes. But sometimes reappear. Is this a defective Display, should I get it replaced via warranty again?
Mine does the same thing, but it has never been repaired or suffered any kind of serious damage. It's not that annoying either.
Could it be some kind of factory defect?
When googling I found it clearly is a hardware display fault. As I had my display swapped by a third party mobile repair shop, they would be the ones to make accountable.
It only occurs at certain brightness settings, and not in all apps/states of display - mostly in those which are really bright like chrome browser without tab open, or dict.cc dictionary app.
I'll keep an eye on the issue and just demand warranty, as this display isn't even 2 months old now. They give 6 months of warranty on exchanged parts. So if it does not go away, I'll just get it replaced again.
It just occured today out of the blue, after flashing custom rom / flashing some stuff and constantly playing on the phone, and it became a bit hot.
It occurred exactly the same to me, after flashing a custom Rom. Now I can't remember which one, but it changed the screen's aspect ratio to simulate the S8's.
After that I flashed stock and the problem kept happening
But I don't think this can be caused by a custom rom... it's a hardware fault.
I hope so because I really wanna install a custom rom ;(
Google the issue - it happened a lot apparently and there is literally no connection to custom Roms - it's a defective Display. I did not have the issue anymore BTW.
I have to get back at this again. I recognized that I can Only see these smudges under certain conditions. I can not see them when I am inside. Only outside, and Only from specific angles - also dependant on screen brightness. When I cover the screen with my hand they disappear.
At first I thought it could also be some fault with the transparent protection skin I also applied one day before first noticing this purple screen problems. But the thing is - they move when scrolling, Only in a small portion of the screen but they go up and down.
The fact I can Only see them in daylight makes me wonder if it's got anything to do with the surrounding brightness sensor that does the automatic brightness and display mode for you.
I find it very strange that I can not provoke the issue indoors, also not if I set up brightness to max.
I have this beautiful and powerful phone LeEco Pro 3 that i`ve been using for half an year or so with AOSIP ROM. Its a wonderful phone with an amazing performance.
The thing is my display started a problem history that has become a long history i will try to resume in a few words.
It started in one day i pressed the power button in order to light the display on and check something in an APP i needed. I found out that before the display lighted on some weird colors and artifacts appeared on screen. But indeed the display worked fine.I thought it was just a temporary thing and just kept using it until In the second day that the weird colors and artifacts became permanent, so i realized i was in trouble. :crying:
Tried sending the phone to technical assistance.
The first one - Told me that they could get a new display for testing but indeed the results were the same and they were seeing oxidation in the display connector on the board, not the display flex cable but the main board connection. They said they would not go further into it and they decided to give the phone back to me. Weird thing is that when i turned the phone one it worked for one day without issues. He said the phone was in the same condition, but that is not what i saw. The problem indeed happened again one day later , but it was less worse as i could at least see the screen, but almost half the screen was horribly shaking, trembling.
The second one - Once the tech guy looked the phone he said he didnt see any sign of the phone getting opened. He said he would be seeing signs of glues or anything like that but in his opinion it was definitely not opened. But he warned me the display could physically brake once he opens it as the phone got contact with oxidation in the toilet(I used to left it in the toiled while i take bath). So i was afraid and decided to back off.
The third one - Said he could not find any display so he sent the phone back to me. Didnt open it at all as he was trying to wait for the new display to arrive in order to be safe. They said they are 90% sure its display replacement would do the job. The thing is - if i used in hot environments the issues seems to slowly disappear . If i use it in cold environments the problems seems to get worse
So here i am. I CAN buy another screen over the internet. But i am afraid if it will work or not. Have anyone there faced same issue? What do you recommend me to do? What would you do
Thanks in advance

There are many many post on this subject, recently in fact. That has links. In fact, you can find them on Alibaba that are all black and made specifically for the Le Pro 3. Here is a link of a guy who used the cool s1 display
Yes it sounds like the display or the flex cables.
Link 1
Here you go cheap and they have the black one
