I've bought HTC HD in Italy, TIM branded, in the box I can see:
Network
HSDPA/WCDMA: 900/2100 MHz
GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
but in my phone interface selecting:
phone/menu/options/network - telefono/menu/opzioni/banda
I can't see WCDMA (UMTS) 900 Mhz
I only see WCDMA (UMTS) 800/850/1900/2100 and not 900 Mhz ???
someone can explain me why?
is it a software or hardware issue ?
thank you

Hi
I have in the phone - options - BAND these:
1. UMTS (2100) + GSM (900+1800)
2. UMTS (850+1900) + GSM (850+1900)
3. UMTS (800+2100)
4. UMTS (850+2100) + GSM(900+1800)
5. UMTS (850) + GSM(900+1800)
But I have this on "Automatic" so I've no idea what the phone is using now !
thank you Cheesy Dave
I can see the same thing on my Blackstone
thank you very much Cheesy Dave
Glad to hear I'm not the only one seeing this. My local network (Vodafone NZ) is pushing their new 900Mhz UMTS network so I was hoping my phone would support it. The back of the box says 900/2100 mhz but the list under phone/options/band is the same as quoted above 800,850, etc.
Does anyone know how I can be sure which band this phone is using? I bought this of a local auction site (new) and am hoping its not a special 850mhz version for the Australian market as some threads are discussing.
Thanks for any help.
I'M CURIOUS to know if the above mentioned possible selections in:
phone - options - BAND
1. UMTS (2100) + GSM (900+1800)
2. UMTS (850+1900) + GSM (850+1900)
3. UMTS (800+2100)
4. UMTS (850+2100) + GSM(900+1800)
5. UMTS (850) + GSM(900+1800)
are present, for example, in the newest HongKong ROM !!!
FYI my ROM versions showing this problem is:
1.14.479.3 (25874) WWE. 11/12/08.
Radio 1.09.25.14.
Protocol 52.49a.25.26U
Cheers.
I have found something interesting in the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=455353&highlight=fieldtest&page=3

here I can read "There have been plenty of attempts to use american radios with non american devices before, from what I understand they havent worked.
My understanding is that the american devices use the 7201a and the rest of the world the 7200 a"

My blackstone have QUALCOMM (R) 7201A
and yours ???

Gents,
I have been following this forum for about 9 months now; it is a great place to visit if one has an XDA – which I do.
I have one question, I upgraded my Qtek1010 to rom ver: 4.00.21 ENG (from yorch.net), it gives an option to select band 900 (Europe) or 1900 (North America). Does 900 really mean 900 or does represent 900/1800 (Europe), i.e. can my mobile still hand over call to cells on 1800MHz in Saudi or is it limited to the 900MHz band as a result of this upgrade?
Thanks for your help
it should be 900/1800 i think
i seem to recall that EU were at first 900
and asia were 1800
and us were 1900
then dual bandphones came and
you could get
900/1800
and
900/1900
not sure about 1800/1900
so it should work on both 900 and 1800 because the phone is dual
I dont think the upgrade changes the hardware capability, the phone will be 900/1800 or 900/1900, the latter can only be used in UK/europe on the 900 band, the 1800 is not achievable as far as I know.
yes 900,hz means 900 only which means if you have been into the band tab in the phone options your device will now be stuck at 900mhz only meaing you have lost the 1800band.....
and 1900 wont work it wil lcause your phone to freeze/no signal.
what you should do is go into your bootloader and achange it to 900/1800 and do not touch the band tab again becuase if you do you will have to select either 900 or 1900
this is because you are using an american rom.....
use v4.00.05 or v4.00.11 they are english roms with 1800/900
Hi ...
The siginifact point is the device h/w type ... is it PW10A1 or PW10B ?? ... refer to the sticker on the rear side of the XDA.
In case it's A then it supports only 900/1800 and the 900 option will mean 900/1800 and the GSM menu should be adjusted to the right band ... if it's B then it's 900/1900 and you can only use the 900 MHz band of your network coz the H/W doesn't support 1800 MHz
Either the GSM menu or the Band tab has no effect if the H/W doesn't support 1800 MHz
Folks,
Thanks for your help, I guess until I downgrade to 4.00.11 ENG I will use the bootloader to set it to 900/1800 and stay away from the band tab.
Thanks again
you can use any version you want mate but if using an american rom like what i am at the mo (v4.01.00) just dont click on the band tab under the phone options as once you do theres no way to close that screen without select either 900 or 1900
if you do select either band just go into the bootloader and put it on 900/1800 again and dont touch the band tab that way you will still have your 1800 mhz band too
gaz
soft reset will solve the problem
lol yeah that also but why not try avoiding the band tab once and for all lol that way you wont have to reset the bootloader bit or reset it if you go into the tab lol
gazzaman2k,
You recommanded using 4.00.05 or 4.00.11, I found 4.00.05 in yorch.net, do you know were I can get 4.00.11? I'm assuming it is a better rom!
Thanks for your help
searche the forum for it mate youll find it v4.00.11 uncooked
The only place for 4.00.11 was Jiff kitchen but it's down now
The ROM part of TMO 4.01.00 is not bad at all ... I have it since 2 months now and it's so stable ... didn't try it with SD cards tho
you may consider this upgrade ... again, the ROM part only
Hi all,
I was wondering if any body knows how to find out which version is my Jam is it 850mHz version or the 900mhz version?
Is it possible to switch between these two versions?
I am cingular usa network...
Thanks
I can't believe nobody knows the answer...
Welll I figured it out... But now I want to download the 1.10 radio rom but for some reason the explorer gives an error when I try to download it (I am logged in)
Can somebody send the radio to me so I can try to switch from 900Mhz to 850Mhz
FYI.. I am told there were three hardware models of JAMs.
PM10A = 900 and 1800MHz
PM10B = 900 and 1900MHz
PM10C = 850 and 1900MHz (North American version, aka JAM 850)
I need enable UMTS 850 in Touch Cruise, it's possible ??
Or need enable GSM 1800 + UMTS 850, the cruise comes only with GSM 1800 + UMTS 850?
Thanks
why wouldn't you use 1800+UMTS 850? what's the difference?
Operator Frequency
The Network used in Brazil are defined.
GSM 1800 + UMTS 850mhz
or
GSM 1800 + UMTS 2100mhz
When I stay in region with 2100mhz my Polaris works fine, but I go to another region with 850mhz, I need change to GSM only to use Phone.
I bought 2 HTC Shift in USA; I live in Europe (Italy).
I'm trying to configure them to connect via builtin UMTS modem but I always get disconnected.
I already own an european Shift that works well and I checked configurations: they are identical.
I so guess if I have to change the ROM to an European version.
If so, the questions:
- where can I find an italian/uk rom ?
- how can I flash if I have NO internet connection to transfer files on SnapVue ?
Thanks for help.
Is the USA Shift GSM or CDAM ?
If it is GSM any of the posted roms on this site should work (other than the default CDMA one).
Hi nmhusa,
how can I know if it is "GSM or CDAM" ? What does it mean ?
Also, if I download the ROM, as I can't connect to the web, how can I do to flash ROM ?
Is it possible through Vista side ?
Thanks for help.

Ciao attento che i Shift in USA sono CDMA
mentre in EU sono GSM.
Usano bande differenti,
Clio 200 = CDMA
Clio 100 = GSM
Bande:
For GSM/HSDPA networks:
* Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850, 900, 1800, 1900
* Tri-band HSDPA/UMTS: Europe/US: 850/1900/2100, Japan: 800/2100
* HSDPA: Up to 3.6Mbps for download, 384kbps for upload
* UMTS: Up to 384kbps for download and upload
For CDMA/EVDO networks:
* CDMA2000 1xEVDO/1xRTT.0A (850/1900)
quindi al massimo potrai sfruttare la banda 850/1900 GSM-GPRS
------------------------------------------------------------------
Please pay attention,
there are 2 different Shift versions,
Clio 200 = CDMA
Clio 100 = GSM
Bands:
For GSM/HSDPA networks:
* Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850, 900, 1800, 1900
* Tri-band HSDPA/UMTS: Europe/US: 850/1900/2100, Japan: 800/2100
* HSDPA: Up to 3.6Mbps for download, 384kbps for upload
* UMTS: Up to 384kbps for download and upload
For CDMA/EVDO networks:
* CDMA2000 1xEVDO/1xRTT.0A (850/1900)

I sent you a sticky message: can you please reply to it (so we can quickly communicate in italian language)?
I will post the solution here when we'll have found it.
Turns out that using USA HTC Shift hardware in Europe does not work for GSM or UMTS connection ....
If someone has other advices is most welcome.
Regards.
Hi,
I have being looking thru threads but couldn't find any info :$
Is there a way to enable UMTS 850Mhz on Topaz?
btw, UMTS 850Mhz is different from GSM 850Mhz
My topaz only shows as available bands:
Auto
GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(900+2100)
GSM(1900+850)
UMTS(2100)
I know that HTC Pure supports UMTS 850Mhz (from HTC tech specs)
I am wondering if I can apply a patch to get it or if it's a hardware limitation
Thanks a lot
Its a hardware limitation. Edge will be the fastest speed you will get. In other words.... no faster than 2g for the topaz.
Umbranded
I have unbranded Topaz with 5 option on Phone - Options - Band:
Auto
GSM (850 900 1800 1900)
GSM ( 900 + 1800) + UMTS ( 900 + 2100)
GSM (1900 + 850) + UMTS (1900 + 850)
UMTS (2100 + 800)
But I'm not test with 3G yet
:O :O
That give me little hope
Can you share the info about the rom and radio versions you have?
Or if you have a HTC rom, from which region the rom is?
Thanks a lot
I test a lot of ROM's and have lastest radio 4.49.25.57
but some Rom that I`ve tryed not show the
GSM (1900 + 850) + UMTS (1900 + 850) option
acytualy I`m try energy rom (28008.5.3.0)
Sorry for my english...
Thanks a lot
I'll give it a try
I'll post my results soon
Thanks a lot
jaime.rq , please report your opinion after trying, as soon....Very interest me, is it hangt from Radio ROM version and OS ROM, or really hangt about devices hardware ?
Thanks on answer forwarding.
Regards
i have been trying to get my 3g to work on my td2 for a while now with the latest radio and shadowline rom. i can select the 850+1900 umts, it will try and force the mode and then it shows an error that it does not work. only reverting back to auto
i have seen some strange things though, where i make a call and the E switches to G and then switches back to E when i hang up, 3G phone calls?
Hi Folks .. the topaz was not released with 850 UMTS and this is a hardware limitation.
Telstra Australia who NextG network is 850 UMTS even released their ROM and it had to fall back to 2100UMTS (The network they share with 3)
So at least in Australia you will get 3G via 2100UMTS but not the NextG Speed.
PS - got to HTC.co.au m and check out the specs for the TOPAZ - then have a look at other phones specs .. you will get the difference.
Topaz Don't Support 850Mhz UMTS, Hardware issue
I installed the rom and radio that ming_a suggested and tested out
unfortunately it didn't work now my topaz shows GSM (1900 + 850) + UMTS (1900 + 850) as an option but I am unable to connect to the 3G network.
It's a hardware issue
Now I have a nice GSM phone with a lot of capabilities that I won't be able to use... :'(

its not that bad, your phone still works, just u lose more time waiting. . . . . .
Any suggestion for a good 850Mhz UMTS phone?
I have the same issue, I want to know if the chipset is the same. If I change the rom to an ATT?
Estamos en las mismas aqui en Costa Rica, yo igual tengo un TD2 version europea.
Nop ATT Rom won't make it to work sorry.
UMTS chip on topaz is different than UMTS chip on HTC Pure
Yo estoy en Costa Rica también...

Hardware limitation?
Hi I'm from Malaysia and I'm using a network which has 3G although I don't know exactly which type. The problem is, it always show E icon on my Topaz, and it never show 3G icon on top. I could not make video calls with this phone, but my old SE K610i could. What could be the problem? With my new topaz, when I try making video calls, it says there was no 3G network...
