Topaz UMTS 850Mhz Support? - Touch Diamond2, Pure General

Hi,
I have being looking thru threads but couldn't find any info :$
Is there a way to enable UMTS 850Mhz on Topaz?
btw, UMTS 850Mhz is different from GSM 850Mhz
My topaz only shows as available bands:
Auto
GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(900+2100)
GSM(1900+850)
UMTS(2100)
I know that HTC Pure supports UMTS 850Mhz (from HTC tech specs)
I am wondering if I can apply a patch to get it or if it's a hardware limitation
Thanks a lot

Its a hardware limitation. Edge will be the fastest speed you will get. In other words.... no faster than 2g for the topaz.

Umbranded
I have unbranded Topaz with 5 option on Phone - Options - Band:
Auto
GSM (850 900 1800 1900)
GSM ( 900 + 1800) + UMTS ( 900 + 2100)
GSM (1900 + 850) + UMTS (1900 + 850)
UMTS (2100 + 800)
But I'm not test with 3G yet

:O :O
That give me little hope
Can you share the info about the rom and radio versions you have?
Or if you have a HTC rom, from which region the rom is?
Thanks a lot

I test a lot of ROM's and have lastest radio 4.49.25.57
but some Rom that I`ve tryed not show the
GSM (1900 + 850) + UMTS (1900 + 850) option
acytualy I`m try energy rom (28008.5.3.0)
Sorry for my english...

Thanks a lot
I'll give it a try
I'll post my results soon
Thanks a lot

jaime.rq , please report your opinion after trying, as soon....Very interest me, is it hangt from Radio ROM version and OS ROM, or really hangt about devices hardware ?
Thanks on answer forwarding.
Regards

i have been trying to get my 3g to work on my td2 for a while now with the latest radio and shadowline rom. i can select the 850+1900 umts, it will try and force the mode and then it shows an error that it does not work. only reverting back to auto
i have seen some strange things though, where i make a call and the E switches to G and then switches back to E when i hang up, 3G phone calls?

Hi Folks .. the topaz was not released with 850 UMTS and this is a hardware limitation.
Telstra Australia who NextG network is 850 UMTS even released their ROM and it had to fall back to 2100UMTS (The network they share with 3)
So at least in Australia you will get 3G via 2100UMTS but not the NextG Speed.
PS - got to HTC.co.au m and check out the specs for the TOPAZ - then have a look at other phones specs .. you will get the difference.

Topaz Don't Support 850Mhz UMTS, Hardware issue
I installed the rom and radio that ming_a suggested and tested out
unfortunately it didn't work now my topaz shows GSM (1900 + 850) + UMTS (1900 + 850) as an option but I am unable to connect to the 3G network.
It's a hardware issue
Now I have a nice GSM phone with a lot of capabilities that I won't be able to use... :'(

Well, it's always a good idea to read the specs before buying...

its not that bad, your phone still works, just u lose more time waiting. . . . . .

Any suggestion for a good 850Mhz UMTS phone?

I have the same issue, I want to know if the chipset is the same. If I change the rom to an ATT?
Estamos en las mismas aqui en Costa Rica, yo igual tengo un TD2 version europea.

Nop ATT Rom won't make it to work sorry.
UMTS chip on topaz is different than UMTS chip on HTC Pure
Yo estoy en Costa Rica también...

Hardware limitation?
Hi I'm from Malaysia and I'm using a network which has 3G although I don't know exactly which type. The problem is, it always show E icon on my Topaz, and it never show 3G icon on top. I could not make video calls with this phone, but my old SE K610i could. What could be the problem? With my new topaz, when I try making video calls, it says there was no 3G network...

1800 mhz GSM Band Missing

I am planning on going to a GSM 1800 country soon but I only have GSM 900 & 1900 (what i'm on now) listed as choices. Is that because of my current SIM card or is there a problem with my phone?
Thanks,
Daniel
Here a file to enable the band selection.
How do I run this?
It worked-
Thanks!!
I go to the States in August. Work the Magician in the USA ?
Thanks
Depends but most probably:
If you are going to be roaming with your current SIM card then find out which network you will be roaming on- if it's T-Mobile you will be fine because all the Magicians can work on he 1900mhz band- which T-mobile is. Cingular/ATT mostly is 1900mhz also but some rural areas operate on the 850mhz band- either way you should be fine, but find out who's service you will be on to be sure.
-Daniel
Thanks !
I use Proximus from belgium.
by the way, how u know gsm 1800 band missing? how u check it?
in the phone: Tools | Options and the tab Band is missing.
I have the band option, but I can only choose:
GSM 900 (europe)
GSM 1900 (North America)
Even after running the program in the second post.

cong
This is the screen I am getting.
I only get
Phone, Services, Network, More
that's why I need to know how to run the program so I can get this extra
BAND option.
cheers
Con
im having same problem as cong... helpp pleeaasseee!!!
Hrb, what kind of Magician do you have?
I'm talking about a T-Mobile MDA Compact with a standard Rom WWE 1.10
And as told: I do have the Band Tab, but I can only select:
GSM 900 (Europe)
GSM 1900 (North America)
And Cong and Castiwo, have you ran the program and softreset the Magician?
I don't know how to run the program, that is the problem

3G/UMTS Issue

I just bought a HTC Dual Touch, traded in a Cingular 8525. But I cannot get the DT to detect the 3G network that my 8525 did. So right now I can only use the edge network (slower) and this phone is supposed to be twice as faster as the 8525. Any thoughts ???
um... hv u consulted ur phone network service provider?
3G/UMTS
Yes I pay the extra fee for internet use with my internet user, and was activated on my Cingular 8525. I dont know why my dual touch doesn't detect the 3G network
can't they provide you with settings parameters, such as access entry point and etc, so that you can add a new connection manually?
I've also noticed this in moving from my tytn to my touch dual. I tested with them sitting side by side and identical settings. It'd be nice if it was just a problem with software or settings, but I figured it was the move from a quad-band phone to a tri-band one, and that the 3G stuff runs over the one I lost (850Mhz).
the 8525 is quad band gprs, tri band UMTS/HSDPA
Touch dual it tri band gprs, single band UMTS/HSDPA

Also, looks like the TyTN II is the only HTC device which has 850/1900/2100 UMTS bands. All other latest models (Touch, Touch Dual, Touch Enhanced, Cruise, S730, etc) has only 2100.
I dont know where you are but where I live cingular/AT&T uses the 850 band.
experiencing same problem and the reason is the dual is configured at 2100mhz waiting for a radio fix or something to help us go down to 850 as well.
from what i've heard there is a version touch dual 850 which works on the 850mhz band, if we can get the radio from that model maybe it can help our situation.
ok so australia is on a 850mhz network and telstra has the touch dual working on there 3g, do you guys think if we load the australia rom it would work or would we probably need the radio as well?
how would you find out if you have that different version?
i've been checking telstra's web page for specs but they match up exactly so maybe its just a radio change.?
Did anyone ever find out if a radio update to the original Touch Dual would allow quad band support and 3G bands for US frequencies?

Does anyone knows how to download Australia rom on touch dual
I have the same problem, I have a 20 key dual and can't use it. Works great in Indiana but, when I'm at home in Ohio it's dead I think the towers around my home are on the old network. I can only use the quad band phones. Bought a Cruise and works fine other than the Dual is just so sexy I hate not using it.
i have the u.s. version of the dual distributed by Best Buy, my problem is that it doesn't show the H logo for HSDPA in places where my AT&T Tilt always did, and I do have HSDPA enabled on the Dual.

Settings for Data in Dominican Republic

i jus't installed a new firmware from tabi13 in my elf, and everything is working fine, but the network detection seems to do an automatic detection of the settings from my provider (Orange Dominicana) and put some t-mobile settings
i just wanted to publish this information for any ROM builder if it can be changed in future releases, or for reference for other people.

Operator settings
There's one elfin ROM with the correct automatic settings for Dominican Republic it's and Opal based rom, not sure it's available for elf, I did notice the same problem with over 20 different roms for different models from wizards to tilts. can not recall the chef, on that particular ROM but it's there.
That's funny
The Onyx ROM which can be used in the ELF, mostly ELFin, but has run well in your model has correct Network Settings. I have personally flashed them for Orange as well, and it works properly. It is a ROM based from the updated ELFin ROM found in HTCs site.

Gracias for the information saved me allot of time.
Creo que viva es 37004.
Confirmed, 37004 is for Viva, although is registered still as CENTENNIAL DOMINICANA. 37003 is for TRICOM DOMINICANA.
Does anyone have the EDGE configuration for either ORANGE Dominicana or VIVA?
I´m using an HTC Kaiser, and would really appreciate them.

Just read the first line of this thread, it´s all listed there!
Thanks. My G1 didn't want to pick up my settings and this worked like a charm. I came to DR for vacation and was struggling trying to get my inet working.

Hi
I have a milestone a853 and i'd like to know if there a way to make it work on 3G
thats because i it only connect to edge thats in Santo Domingo
Orange dominicana is 900/1900 Mhz on 3G, don't confuse GSM with 3G frequencies, it's not the same thing.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
I cant get any of my phones to work on 3g yet over the orange dominicana network! I have mytouch 4g and an atrix 4g... None if them get the 3g connection (mt4g is 900 3g and atrix 850) . Any ideas?
I will second (or third) the requests made above....
I was also in D.R. recently with my Tmobile Vibrant and couldn't get EDGE data connectivity with Claro to save my life. I went f***ng nuts trying everything. I had researched my phone capabilities ahead of time and found the following:
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
HSDPA 1700 / 1900 / 2100
From the posts listed above, Claro has 2G @ 1900Mhz. When I checked Wikipedia prior to my trip, it shows:
Claro Dominicana
CDMA 1xEV-DO in 800/1900 MHz
GSM/GPRS/EDGE in 850/1900 MHz
UMTS/HSDPA service in the 850 MHz band
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?
Is there some kind of trick to get 2G data working? I am at a loss...I should have had 2G data (I knew I wasn't getting 3G), instead I was all sorts of lost without Google Maps. For the record...paper maps suck!
Someone PLEASE shed light on this situation. I am going back soon, I need data on my phone!
T-mo's 3G bands are not compatible with Orange 3G. The Atrix is not compatible either, however, theoretically you can use the Atrix with Claro's 3G since Att and Claro's 3G bands are compatible. I haven't tried this yet.

Lock to 900mhz

Hey guys my ex-Orange is on Virgin AU these days, using it as a tethered modem but I need to lock down to 900 as the Opyus/Virgin 2100mhz 3G spectrum is saturated in Melbourne to hell with all these 2100mhz devices over the last few years, any idea where I can get an application to lock to 900mhz 3G ?
Im using the HK rom a kind XDA'er uloaded for us
Under "Start\Settings\Personal\Phone\Band" (translated from German) you can preselect some frequencies.
thats the problem ! the only option is 2100/900 mhz together, nothing else under 3G
try....
On my rom I have two things to change on that page:
Networktyp: There I'm able to decide GSM or WCDMA
GSM should help you with your problem.
Band: There I can select the frequencies, but as you mention, there are always a UMTS band included.
Good luck and regards from AUSTRIA.

this is what Palm Treo supports
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100
GPRS Class 10 (4+1/3+2 slots), 32 - 48 kbps
EDGE Yes
3G HSDPA
You wrote:
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100
3G HSDPA
And so it does support UMTS. I use a UMTS ONLY carrier in Austria (HUT 3) and it works fine with the stock ROM.
So something can't be right with what you wrote.

im sorry i actually don't know what im talking about i thought i did but actually i don't sorry
As far as I can tell every ROM here supports UMTS, you might however need to turn it on in the settings (Phone settings, "Band", and UMTS/auto).
Just a word of caution concerning custom ROMs... I'm probably going back to the stock OEM rom due to data-connection issues with my current carrier (A1/bob in Austria) ... and it seems to be ROM-related. (Only encrypted connections work without problems, unencrypted e.g. http-traffic only works every now and then. payed support couldn't help either and told me it must be phone-related, which I'm inclined to believe.)
If all you need is a non-german/english ROM, you'll find it her as well as at the ppcgeeks forum.
I just thought it was a bit strange that all the ROM cooks add the extra GSM Tag up front. If they also support UMTS Band why call it a GSM ROM?
Is there something I'm not getting?

np glad i could help CDMA isn't really used a lot in most countries like UK and i think GSM is more convenient because all you have to do is change Sim's to use it on another carrier compared to CDMA which they have to flash there phones to change carriers
UMTS = GSM
Hey guys.
UMTS is based on GSM technology, so if you flash the phone with a GSM ROM, you'll be sweet.
Here in Oz, I've used my 3G UMTS-based Treo Pro on the Hutchison 3 Network with a GSM rom flashed on it.. No issues with calls / data connectivity.
There's plenty of GSM ROMs lying around for the Treo Pro
GSM ROM 6.5 in German
there is a WM6.5.3 ROM für GSM !!!!! (not CDMA) look the Thread
"WinMo6.5 GSM Build 21884. Build date: 2010-8-26 3 Attachment(s)" vom mort4z i also use his ROM - it works quite great.
GSM mean european standard and includes UMTS/HSDPA. never use a cdma ROM for a "european GSM Palm Treo Pro".
i just dumped my original 6.1 Rom for mort4z - he will extract the German language an maybe we get a 6.5.3 Build 21884 version in German the next days.
greetings from Austria
