Anyone know where I can get a replacement battery cover from for my wizard?
ebay.
for my MDA Vario they are about $10.
i need one as mine is icky and scratched [[bought it used. got it last week.]] and missing the windows logo.
i got a new exec 3 days ago after my first one packed up and have noticed that the new exec is different, it feels lighter, the battery seems to last longer and there are more grooves and holes. under the screen there are 2 holes to stop the screen from spinning to far. Does anyone else have these or am i the only one the have a new design exec?
i also noticed a hole under the sim card that wasnt there before, does anyone know what its for? its on the left of the red clip that holds the battery and on the left of the clip that holds the back case on
sry for the bad quality

lol i thought it was just mine.
i got mine about a week ago (old one got a crack screen, thank you insurance! ) anyhow the screen rotation is alot tighter and more of a robust feel to it. I also seem to have more program memory after a soft reset (possibly the new ROM update) either way i think my screen breaking (broke by itself might i add) has turned out to be for the better. 8)
oh and I'm sure the spring metal clip thingy under the back case (your second pic) wasn't there before.
the case comes off so much easier/quicker than before! (not that it needs to come too often lol)
Thanks for the reply.
Im glad im not the only one, but these changes are definately for the better.
Keyboard backlight
I have also just received a new Exec and I note:
* O2's UI crap doesn't run by default and I was able to easily remove it.
* There is no obvious keybaord backlight. Has it been removed?
* The backlight switch on the front edge doesn't do anything. Have I missed something?
* Before I removed the O2 software, there was a Task Manager application. Now that I have removed the O2 stuff, it has disappeared. Is it part of the O2 suite?
* I have installed GPRS Monitor from the CD. It seems to record traffic via Wi-Fi as well GPRS. Can anyone confirm this?

The keyboard backlight uses a light sensor so it only comes on when its dark, you can disable the sensor if you go into start>settings>buttons>backlight and un-tick 'enable keyboard backlight auto sensor.
As for the backlight button, mine never worked, not on the new one or the old one unless i installed a hack to enable it.
I dont know about the gprs monitor as i dont use it.
About the task manager, i dont know about that either as i use spb pocket plus.
Hope this helps
Thanks
Thanks for the information.
the new redesigned exec
Guys, Now you have owned these redesigned execs for a while , how are they holding up? do they still suffer from wearing shing spots on the housing and keyboard? or are there new problems now...lol??
everything seems to be ok, i use a silicone case so i dont know if the spots still happen. Although the screen seems to be tighter, its not as loose as my old one which became very loose after the first few months. Other than that everything seems to be perfect
New Execs
After checking with my son who has an Exec for many months, I conclude that there have been no noticeable changes. Everything I though was odd about mine such as:
non-working camera
no keyboard backlight
backlight button not working
turn out to be respectively:
firmware problems (reloaded ROM & the camera worked fine)
it really needs to be very dark before the keyboard backlight comes on - which it does
the backlight button doesn't work on older Execs either[/list]
Hmm, I must have an in-between model. The hole and the clip are present, but not the bits under the screen.
And I thought I was the only one getting shiny spots on the casing. Can they be removed?
I may have found an bit of a interesting discovery, ive had my 4th replacement vario ii come today (dont ask - bloody sticky keys) and on this one the battery is covered in a white casing.
All my others have only had this casing on the back of the battery, this one is now completely covered in it. So i wonder if it is to try and combat the heat problems that weve been seeing?
I will give it a good blast tonight to get it hot and see if anything happens, either heat-wise or alignment-wise!
....on the alignment issue (still on my origional TyTN...HT628)...Ive had no issues but recently i enabled cleartype and i noticed when i was out the alignment was WAAAAY off, lol nearly a cm!!!
Turning it off ive noticed no effects!??!? GOTTA be software hasnt it!?
My free memory is around the 23-30 MB mark. Seems weird eh?! CAnt say im bothered about using cleartype, ive installed wisbar advance (and the desktop plugin) which automatically enables cleartype but that has shown no ill effects....interesting
Im on my second vario2 now, the first was a 1300ma battery that was covered all around in white plastic.....the second is a 1350ma battery, again covered in white plastic.
Imp
many replacements...
Could you provide more detail regarding why you replaced your vario II? Mine just don't want to reach more than 140-160 kbits/sec (all 4 bars all the time different locations) with HSDPA activated. I posted in another thread that only once it has reached 1400 kbits/sec, it may be the device itself, but can't be sure if more people don't post if they have the same problem.
Just a simple question:
Are both phones the same? Do they use the same stylus pen? Do they use the exact same motherboard, screen, connectors and etc? The only difference is the case and keyboard shape?
Thanks in advance!
Both devices are HTC WIZARD 200. They have a different housing face plate and keypad. Therefore also the shape of the stylus might vary - I am not sure! I am using the MDA version which looks better on the front in my opinion. Allthrough I think the keyboard looks better on the 8125 ...
Anything else is the same in the devices.
A friend of mine is sending me a dead MDA and I'd like to know if I buy a Cingular 8125 with a broken screen, will I be able to use the motherboard from the MDA or the screen from the 8125 to get a fully functional unit?

I wouldn't buy a 8125 with a broken screen in first place! Research this forum for the SERVICE MANUAL of the HTC WIZARD! After seeing how to take it appart you might be able to imagine that too much can go wrong! The screen and the keyboard are the last things you can access! You open the device on the back and have to work all way down piece by piece until there ...
I saw broken screen WIZARDs on eBay for $150.00 - compared to that you can find working dev ices for $200.00 w/o contract.
Yeah I saw the service manual and got scared too, but I can give it a try I think, if I find a broken device for less than $150
Hi all, my Hermes/JasJam LCD screen and front panel stopped working a while back with the whiting out issue, funny artifacts and non working buttons. I have pulled it apart quite a few times to make temporary solutions but none have lasted enough.
So now I'm looking to buy a used Hermes and jack the screen part off it and place it on mine. Now I know how to do this but what came to my mind was:
Buy the newer version of the Hermes and place it's front part on my old jasjam which would be like a mixed/modded Hermes.
So I saw the O2 Zinc and the TyTN II and i really like the front panels better than the original hermes ones. So, before I buy one of them, does someone know if the ribbon cable is the same as the original one that connects to the phone's mainboard?
Any help much appreciated!
