Cingular 8125 / T-Mobile MDA: The same? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Just a simple question:
Are both phones the same? Do they use the same stylus pen? Do they use the exact same motherboard, screen, connectors and etc? The only difference is the case and keyboard shape?
Thanks in advance!

Both devices are HTC WIZARD 200. They have a different housing face plate and keypad. Therefore also the shape of the stylus might vary - I am not sure! I am using the MDA version which looks better on the front in my opinion. Allthrough I think the keyboard looks better on the 8125 ...
Anything else is the same in the devices.

A friend of mine is sending me a dead MDA and I'd like to know if I buy a Cingular 8125 with a broken screen, will I be able to use the motherboard from the MDA or the screen from the 8125 to get a fully functional unit?

I wouldn't buy a 8125 with a broken screen in first place! Research this forum for the SERVICE MANUAL of the HTC WIZARD! After seeing how to take it appart you might be able to imagine that too much can go wrong! The screen and the keyboard are the last things you can access! You open the device on the back and have to work all way down piece by piece until there ...
I saw broken screen WIZARDs on eBay for $150.00 - compared to that you can find working dev ices for $200.00 w/o contract.

Yeah I saw the service manual and got scared too, but I can give it a try I think, if I find a broken device for less than $150

cracked screen on my 8125. suggestions?

hi. i have an 8125 and i was painting and fell from the ladder. i wasn't hurt all that much but the the screen on my 8125 cracked and now there is bleeding everywhere inside my screen.
does anyone know if i can replace the screen easily by myself or where i can even get a screen?
i think someone was going to sell me a broken MDA (screen good) and wondering if that screen would work for the 8125.
thank you.
Hi!
There was similar discussion some time ago:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=51395
Actually I broke my screen too this weekend I ordered replacement from ebay, such as this one:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140005879931
I am going to try to replace it by myself according to Wizard service manual. In my case only touch screen is damaged - not LCD, but it seems that these come as one unit. If I will find that these can be separated, I will have spare LCD part. In my case I have O2 XDA mini s - I do not know if lcd is the very same as in Cingular 8125 you have.

Gutted for you m8. Hope you manage to get hold of something cheap.
Update to my previous post - after much tinkering I was able to replace broken touchscreen of my mini-s.
Some notes:
According to Wizard service manual there are two LCD versions:
p/n 60H00032-00M - LCD Module, (LTP280QV-E01 Samsung)
p/n 60H00037-00M - LCD Module, (TD028STEB1 Toppoly)
It seems that these are not interchangeable but I might be wrong. I was trying to replace my 60H00032-00M with new 60H00037-00M (whole module with lcd & touchscreen), however it did not work - LCD switched on but was all white. Then I managed to separate touchscreen from new module and replace it with my broken one. Seems that it is working now. It is possible to replace just touchscreen but care must be taken not to break it and some very fine soldering must be done.
To theorist - if you want to replace LCD by yourself you should check for exact part number of your LCD and find similar one - that should work.
So now I have spare and useless for me 60H00037-00M LCD Module (LCD only without touchscreen) that probably is in working order as I suppose that it is just not compatible with my mini-s.
In the US, HTC America can fix it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=49361&highlight=

Replacement touch screen, not LCD

So I perfect my GUI, its slick - nice fat icons for my chubby little fingers - Slide to unlock software, class! and a lovley contact scroller and MP3 scroller for easy music access...
and then, I'm in the workshop and I put a screw in my pocket - bend down to pick up something and "click", I have a brand new hole in my Touchscreen of my SPV M3100 (Heremes).
The LCD is grand - So I assume its just the membrane that was peirced and now it doesnt work, I hate using the hard buttons, and alas, im insurance free...
anyone have any idea where I can buy a replacement? in the UK prefereably - I dont want to send the phone away, as I could do it myself...
any leads would be grand - thanks

I bought an lcd/digitizer combo from a seller on eBay here in the states for $80 US....my digitizer was cracked but it looked easier to install as one unit (you'll see why) so I did that.
Check eBay, and keep on it. Took me about 2 weeks to find a local auction - but there were definately more on your side of the pond.
Sorry to be off topic but what contact and mp3 scroller are you using.
its called icontact - search for it on ppcwarez.org
the mp3 one is in their somewhere too..
works like Iphone,
nu screen anyone!?

Do not buy this thinking it will enable GPS - it won't.

LOL yea he's right, all it does is increase your bluetooth GPS devices range, it's just an add-on antenna to stick on the outside of your car for better reception.
As far as the Digitizer goes, I suggest you buy an LCD with a digitzer already on it. It's very difficult to replace just the digitizer and in most cases you'll end up ruining the LCD under it while taking the digitizer off, I've tried it about 5 different times and I could never get it to work correctly, so just go with the full LCD/Digitzer already together.

Kinda new to the Wizard.. Little help?

Im a blackberry guy (not a fanboy, I just own one) but I just recently got a broken MDA from a friend of mine. I have not had a chance to turn it on to see how well it works (battery is dead and no charger), but, there is a crack on the screen. My friend says it will turn on (dont know what it looks like; again), but it wont align. I dont know if she means it works fine OTHER then that, or if the crack is visable , or if the LCD is trashed looking or what, but onto my point.
On the back it says Wiza200. Does this mean its a MDA 2? Im lost when it comes to identifying this MDA. Its the T-mobile version (unless thats obvious, once again, im new, give me a break) and what Im looking to do worst case scenario is replace the LCD. I already found the guide how to take it apart and reassemble, but im still shopping for a LCD. Can someone point me in the direction of cheap replacements?
you can get a good oem replacement screen and digitiser (touch screen thingy bit) from ebay quiet cheep but you need to know which generation of wizard it is as they have different cables.
or you can send it to one of the various companies on the internet (like i have) for a screen to be fit for like £65 gbp.
How do I check which generation I have? Or is that unknown til I see the back of the LCD screen?
that you can tell kinds by the colour of the ribbon cable.
If i remember -if its yellowy/orange ribon then its a gen2 screen other then gen 1.
you should just be able to make out the cable colour when you slide the keyboard out and look between the gap from front screen to keyboard.
someone correct me if im wrong.

intercompatibility of parts between Herm100/200/300

Hello all
I require some input from some of the gurus of xda-devs and its a question im guessing a lot people would like to know the answer to
Can we swap spare parts from say a Cingular 8525 to a MDA Vario II? (Herm200 --> Herm300)
what i mean to say is, lets say we could only find a front keypad for a cingular 8525, would it fit into the vario II?of course the orientation of keys would be correct for the cingular and not for the vario so you'd need a new front keypad aswell, but on the 'technical' level, is this possible?
many thanks
Don't quote me on this BUT I believe I read a post from Mike Channon saying that internally ALL the Hermes variants were the same. Be best to search through his threads, website or ask the maestro himself...
Cheers...
Yes that's probably about 99% true, BUT I notice the d/pad layout on some variants is quite different and so the underlying board may well be different - have not had time to fully check this.
Mike
Thanks for clearing that up Mike, as I said I wasn't totally sure...
Cheers...
many thanks
so mike, my theoretical scenario, would it work?
if i was to get a cingular 8525 d-pad board and a 8525 keypad to go over it, technically it ought to work right?

I tried to check that out and did not find much info. BUT I see no reason for it not to work circuit wise. You might need to remap keys.
Have you checked that the 8525 keypad will fit the housing you have?
Mike
id happily modify the housing as a temporary thing, but i reckon i'll give it a shot and report back. i have a hunch it will fix the white screen issue.
does anyone know of anyone who has a brick they'd like to sell?!
Ebay is good, bought a couple of dud jasjams off there to fix mine and wouldn't you know it, one actually worked except for the camera & battery. Ended up cannobilizing MY Jasjam to fix up the "broken" one I purchased for parts....
Cheers...

HTC Hermes/TyTN front panel ribbon cable same as TyTN II? (Please read/help!)

Hi all, my Hermes/JasJam LCD screen and front panel stopped working a while back with the whiting out issue, funny artifacts and non working buttons. I have pulled it apart quite a few times to make temporary solutions but none have lasted enough.
So now I'm looking to buy a used Hermes and jack the screen part off it and place it on mine. Now I know how to do this but what came to my mind was:
Buy the newer version of the Hermes and place it's front part on my old jasjam which would be like a mixed/modded Hermes.
So I saw the O2 Zinc and the TyTN II and i really like the front panels better than the original hermes ones. So, before I buy one of them, does someone know if the ribbon cable is the same as the original one that connects to the phone's mainboard?
Any help much appreciated!
