i got a new exec 3 days ago after my first one packed up and have noticed that the new exec is different, it feels lighter, the battery seems to last longer and there are more grooves and holes. under the screen there are 2 holes to stop the screen from spinning to far. Does anyone else have these or am i the only one the have a new design exec?
i also noticed a hole under the sim card that wasnt there before, does anyone know what its for? its on the left of the red clip that holds the battery and on the left of the clip that holds the back case on
sry for the bad quality

lol i thought it was just mine.
i got mine about a week ago (old one got a crack screen, thank you insurance! ) anyhow the screen rotation is alot tighter and more of a robust feel to it. I also seem to have more program memory after a soft reset (possibly the new ROM update) either way i think my screen breaking (broke by itself might i add) has turned out to be for the better. 8)
oh and I'm sure the spring metal clip thingy under the back case (your second pic) wasn't there before.
the case comes off so much easier/quicker than before! (not that it needs to come too often lol)
Thanks for the reply.
Im glad im not the only one, but these changes are definately for the better.
Keyboard backlight
I have also just received a new Exec and I note:
* O2's UI crap doesn't run by default and I was able to easily remove it.
* There is no obvious keybaord backlight. Has it been removed?
* The backlight switch on the front edge doesn't do anything. Have I missed something?
* Before I removed the O2 software, there was a Task Manager application. Now that I have removed the O2 stuff, it has disappeared. Is it part of the O2 suite?
* I have installed GPRS Monitor from the CD. It seems to record traffic via Wi-Fi as well GPRS. Can anyone confirm this?
Blair
The keyboard backlight uses a light sensor so it only comes on when its dark, you can disable the sensor if you go into start>settings>buttons>backlight and un-tick 'enable keyboard backlight auto sensor.
As for the backlight button, mine never worked, not on the new one or the old one unless i installed a hack to enable it.
I dont know about the gprs monitor as i dont use it.
About the task manager, i dont know about that either as i use spb pocket plus.
Hope this helps
Thanks
Thanks for the information.
the new redesigned exec
Guys, Now you have owned these redesigned execs for a while , how are they holding up? do they still suffer from wearing shing spots on the housing and keyboard? or are there new problems now...lol??
everything seems to be ok, i use a silicone case so i dont know if the spots still happen. Although the screen seems to be tighter, its not as loose as my old one which became very loose after the first few months. Other than that everything seems to be perfect
New Execs
After checking with my son who has an Exec for many months, I conclude that there have been no noticeable changes. Everything I though was odd about mine such as:
non-working camera
no keyboard backlight
backlight button not working
turn out to be respectively:
firmware problems (reloaded ROM & the camera worked fine)
it really needs to be very dark before the keyboard backlight comes on - which it does
the backlight button doesn't work on older Execs either
Hmm, I must have an in-between model. The hole and the clip are present, but not the bits under the screen.
And I thought I was the only one getting shiny spots on the casing. Can they be removed?

I never know whether I'm being too picky, but I've just bought an XDA Exec and would like to know whether mine is sub-standard or if other people's XDA Execs are just the same.
Overall, the build quality seems to be pretty good, but I find that the casing "creaks" really annoyingly in a couple of places :
- around the IR port on the front edge (I tend to put my thumb on while opening it, which makes it a bit annoying), and
- on the corner next to the pen slot (which gets pressed when I'm pushing the Exec into the protective case).
Finally, the screen seems to me to be a bit slow re-orienting itself when I switch between PDA and laptop modes.
I know these kind of moans are bit of a boring subject, but I would really appreciate some advice from other owners, so I can either get fussy with O2 or put my mind at rest!
Thanks a million.
Stephen
I am using a Jasjar jus for your info.
There is a very slight noticeable creak with the IR port but nothing near the stylus.
The reason why the switching of orientation is very long is usually attributed to the number of today plugins installed. Also, if there are plenty of programs running in the background taking up a lot of your program memory, slowing down may occur.
I DONT THINK YOU HAVE A DUD.
No creak for me, but it is slow'ish switching from landscape to portrait when there's lots on the Today screen. Cutting down the number of icons should help considerably.
BTW, after atempting to run with the O2 Active install, I opted for the Corporate install and much prefer it.
Hope that helps.
Corporate mode, install GSPMagic+, disable error reporting (settings) and disable beam (also settings) and you should see improved speed on switching. I have a slight creek from the tight hinge of the camshell, which I don't mind.
It seems that as of late I have to re-align my screen almost on a daily basis. It will be ok vertically, but horizontally it seems that it's always shifting.
Has anyone else ran into this?
Yep, I've run into it. Sometimes it can go days without having to realign it, other times I have to realign it every 15 minutes. Seriously. I thought it might have something to do with opening and closing the keyboard but it's been hit and miss so far. I can't prove that it and I can't prove that it isn't. Sure would be nice to figure out what it is, however, and have it fixed.
How do you carry your phone around? Do you keep it in a case on a belt clip or do you keep it in a front pocket of your pants? If you do not use a case then try it for a few days and see if this helps with the alignment problem. (Body heat and/or pressure on the screen may cause the alignment to drift.)
This is a know hardware defect. It should be covered by your warrenty. T-Mobile exchanged mine with no problem.
Mine had the same issue but it hasnt been an issue since the 2.26 update on Tmo.
I had my phone replaced and it's still having the alignment issue. This sucks bad. Realigning and resets doesn't help!

Getting rid of magic button and vbar, if you run those apps, did the trick for me...I switched to wisbar desktop and ever since I have not had to realign my screen once in 2 months
I'm going to try this out and let everyone know. I'm having the terrible screen alignment problems (I at first thought that it was the keyboard and switching landscape mode) but I have magic button installed. Going to try the switch to wisbar lite and see if that helps. Does anyone know if the business card trick for the hermes will help with this?
I think it is a hardware defect, i have problems with mine, not only i have to re-align it often, my screen is also not responding to touch either. (from time to time).
Not to respond right away without extensive testing, but I did just put on wisbar lite and noticed a definite improvement in aligment (certainly seemed better than magic button) someone else should try this too and see if they notice an improvement.
I was having this issue for awhile. The card trick had helped on my previous 8125 but not this time. Carrying it in the case instead of my pocket seems to help quite a bit. The issue also seemed to be affected by pushing on the plastics around the screen so that might be a clue right there too.
align
delete
Sounds similar to my fix of pushing on the plastics all the way around. I haven't really had this problem since I did so and I have only had to realign it a couple of times in the last few weeks.
my phone's alignment used to get screwed up multiple times a day.
I took the stupid stick on screen protector off it though and haven't had that problem nearly as often. I maybe realign once a week, and when I do, it's only because it's off just a bit.
I had alignment problems frequently a few months ago but it is all history now.
1) Fix current alignment problem.
Just make sure you confirm if it is a hardware defect first, by checking the tiny gaps between the touchscreen and the casing for dust particles. Use a high power scope(I work in a semicon backend company so no problems getting one). Clean the gaps all around the touchscreen. See if that fixes your alignment problem. If it does, then probably your screen has some electronic problems(claim warranty).
2) Protect your screen from pressure at ALL times except when you use it with your stylus or finger.
I carry my Wizard in my pocket with a plastic transparent plate covering the entrie screen(ala HP's RW6828 forgot that model already).. Have been doing this since last year and no alignment required since last year...
Just wonder why HTC doesn't make it an option of have the protective screen on their devices... Beats having a bulky casing..
Permanent fix for Alignment problem in 10 seconds
Well I read many posts and finally came to the conclusion that the best and permanent fix for the alignment problem is as under.
Slide out the keyboard, you will find 2 screws at the back. Loosen them and then retighten them but not as hard as they originally were but lightly.
Presto
Problem solved.
U will never see your screen misalign again.
Thanks
software problem
The original Cingular wm5 rom had this alignment problem, I flashed NBD's WM6 v5.1 rom and it was fixed. I tried other wm6 roms with mixed results, some would get misaligned, others alignment stays perfect. Anyway the NBD rom just works, improves battery life, speed, I could go on all day.

Try this:
1. Wait till the screen misaligns
2. Switch off device
3. Use a clean cloth and apply pressure EVENLY on the WHOLE of the screen (as if 'ironing' the screen)
4. Power on the device
My XDA Trion (HT626) re-aligns itself WITHOUT having to go through the screen alignment 'routine'.
How about yours?

Re
I don't know, here are my thoughts.
I am 99% sure that screen pressure will affect alignment - when I had misalignment, i used the stylus to press the screen in different areas, the contact point position will change in response to this, though i have no idea where it will change to.
So even if my method does have some effect, eventually the screen layer will 'loosen' again and you will have to 'press it back'.
The 'loosening' of the screen layer may be due to vibration, heat (from battery?), deficient screen etc.
a question a bit OT: how much time after the first start your TyTN had the mis-alignment of the screen? you found it also in the very first days of use?
whassup people
had the same problem..got the tynt yesterday..today have scrreen alignment issues..tried what u told me n works..
hopefully it will keep working
thanks
works for me too
I have had an m3100 for a month now and no screen problems until last week. getting more and more frequent now. 4 or 5 times a day at the moment.
sometimes just opening the keyboard and closing it again sorts it. sometimes just pushing the screen gently here or there sorts it. if I power off and run my finger around the perimeter of the screen that always sorts it out!
I have a screen protector fitted. is this a factor?
I think it maybe due to pressure on the casing when its in my pocket sending the screen out. I've never used the magnetic case and I've not tried the screw adjustment thing yet.
my problem is, is that i've flashed the rom so I not going to be able to send this back easily for exchange even though I have orange care.

I think.... HTC produces device while they're drunk... How was it possible? I'm a developer and after I finished to develop a software "I MUST" test it because if something doesn't work my boss become a T-Rex, and "I WANT" test it because in my opinion custom satisfaction is much more important then moneies.
Sorry for my poor english, I'm lerning it.
I am a disappointed XDA Trion owner.
Anyone with this problem try this out:
Open up the keyboard and flip the device over so you are looking at the back.
You will see two screws at the top of the screen on the rear. Losen them off a bit and retighten, but so that they are NOT AS TIGHT as they originall were.
See how you go.
I saw this mentioned here...apparently it can fix the problem for good. The issue is that the screws were overtightened at the factory and there is also a seal that runs out the edge of the screen. As the device gets used/warm the seal expands a bit causing pressure to be applied. If the screws are over tight then this impacts on the touchscreen causing the misalignment.
Try it...might fix it...
Hello from down-under ,
I've come to put forward a problem myself and a few others are having over at the Mtekk forums. I currently just purchased an I-Mate JasJam on Telstras' new NextG network and have been using it for about a week and a half. As this fantastic piece of equipment is a little on the expensive side, I wanted to make sure it was kept safe all the time, so I began to use (no matter how silly it made me look ) the I-Mate supplied Pouch, little did I know it did more damage then not using it...
After investigating over the last few days, It was concluded that the magnetic found in the supplied Pouch had some diverse effect on the switching on Landscape to Portrait mode when removing the JasJam from the Pouch to answer/make a call, play a game or send a text message; often resulting in a 'bugged' or 'glitched' screen, stuck between either Landscape or Portrait etc (I fixed by removing the JasJam and sliding out the Keyboard and back in).
After I few days I thought that this couldn't be right for a brand new machine and took my problem to the Internet in which I found others with the same problem. Since then I have stopped using the supplied Pouch and am now looking at purchasing the Krussel Orbit Pouch as a magnetic-less replacement (any users with one, I'd love your feedback). I am making this thread to see if any users of the XDA-Developers board have faced this issue and ask one further question:
1. Since I stopped using the Pouch I can only find one annoying trait left, whenever I switch the Screen back on from 'Standby' mode I seem to receive a small 'glitch' in the Today Screen if the device has been locked, if the device has been left unlocked the Screen can be switched on/off with no issue - does anyone else have this problem, I'm concerned that the magnetic pouch has caused some internal damage...
Thanks,
Elite_Gamer04
Hi, there is a bit more about this problem in the accessories thread, I noticed the magnet causing issues and wondered about internal damage as you did, even possibly causing the align issues, but a few people reported back they had been using the case from day 1 and while it affected the landscape/portrait, they had no align issues or any other problems, so I don't suspect that there is any internal damage occurring..I do wonder about your screen glitch but without actually seein it..I haven't a clue, also do you have a lot of today plugins?..could possibly be one of them is buggy..I'm not sure, but the case does certainly suck, I was immediately concerned with the magnet strength, off topic..but on my device if my thumb is a bit damp or any metal touches the aluminum bezel around the ear piece of the phone..the screen will flicker.
Thanks for your reply Chaotic, My device is in the same state as when it come out of the box, so this isn't a 3rd party issue. I have tried removing/adding the default Today Screen icons to see if it makes an issue to the 'glitching' of my screen when it on/off and it makes no difference, only thing I can see that makes it not happen *sometimes* is when the device is not locked.
Well thats one user without my issue, hoping someone will report it, or I'm going to get a replacement.
*If your testing to see if you have the same issue as me, simply hold your device in your hand (try both with it Locked and Unlocked) and push the top right-hand side button which should switch your screen off, press it again for it to come on. If you see a sort of 'glitch' of white on your Today Screen and then it fixes itself (I'm talkin 1-2 seconds) you have the same as me.*
Hi chaps,
I've used the magnetic pouch from day one with my UK T-Mobile Vario II and am still yet to see the landscape/portrait switching issue when removing the Vario II to answer a call.
I had a theory about this, and it's probably going to get shot down in flames for it's obviousness, but I'll mention it anyway... Could the problem be down to the machine being powered down (manually or automatically) while in Landscape mode... then when switching on automatically when a phone call is received, the phone tries to switch back to portrait mode but gets stuck?
I have road tested this theory on my own Vario II and have not seen the problem at all, but my ROM may handle things differently to yours? Apologies again if this suggestion is obvious.

I assume you are referring to the lock/unlock option found on the Today screen? I also see a short white screen delay when using this Today screen option.
I also see an even longer delay when using the password/pin lock option. Probably something to do with the locking program checking to see if the preset time delay for locking and requesting the password/pin has passed.
Disabling both options makes starting up a lot faster, although you may of course need these options enabled. I'm sure it's something that will be resolved by the manufacturer in time.
elite_gamer04, I hadn't ever used the lock on my device, so I enabled it just to test, and there wasn't any differences, I also wasn't sure of what the actual glitch was, but since you mentioned it I did some further investigating, I do notice a white screen when coming back from standby, but it lasts no longer than half a second..definitely not 2 seconds.
g00nerz, its all good, all info around here is appreciated, but there is definitely an issue with the case magnet, I don't have a single landscape/portrait issue unless I put it in the bundle case..I use a modded aluminum case at the moment..but if I switch back it happens, I'm pretty sure the words "bundle case" are in the title of the post with others with this issue if you want to check it out.
I have read where some people were discussing that they thought some had different screens..that could be why you haven't had this issue or maybe it is ROM related, but from what I understand its been a variety of brands with this issue...now that I think about it..I wonder if all the brands bundle cases are the same?
I think its Mike(I hope I got that right) that has tore one of these apart..few posts about it with pics on the forum he might know, but anyhow I wonder if theres actually a hardware switch that triggers the switch from portrait/landscape when the slide out kb is opened, and the magnet is affecting that..could also be it was revised on some models.
I'm just speculating/guessin on what might be causing it, I really haven't any solid info other than some people definitely have an issue with the case, including me.
I also see a short white screen delay when using this Today screen option

I <3 you hehe. Thank god its not just me . Yes I was referring to the 'Device Lock' and 'Device Unlock' function on the Today Screen. When it is Unlocked and I switch on/off the screen I see no 'lag' or 'white glitch' but with it on I see a small 1-2 sec lag. Anyways as you have confirmed it also I don't have to worry about returning mine and will get on with my new Krussel case I'm about to order.
Thanks
P.S If others are having this issue, or know of how to fix, don't hesitate to post.
Please consider that the use of wifi may drasticely slow down the device's power up. I do use the default case with the strong magnet, and when I power up my device with the wifi enabled it takes a while until he completely awake; the wifi plus the switch landscape => portrait (thanks HTC case) slow it down.
I am also experiencing the "auto answer" issue; from time to time when I put my device off its case it answer to the incoming phone call, but till now I was not sure that the case could be involved; are you sure about this? I tried to give some testing but I was not able to reproduce it; it only happen when it is not expected to happen

Hi elite_gamer04, As you had rightly mentioned this is really a fantastic device and no doubt about it.....like you I had the same problem when I bought it around 2 months back.
I was breaking my head as to why its happening, it looked for me as if the device hangs on and off...but did not notice keenly the instances when it happened as removing it out of the pouch was too normal a thing that did not hint me that it has something to do with the issue...But I was totally broken and disturbed and decided somehow I am going to get a replacement. I took it to the service centre and the guy there (very smart) as soon as I mentioned about the problem ( I went there thinking that it has something to do with the sliding mechanism) responded spontaneously taking the pouch opened the flap and took the magnet side over the screen and showed it to me....wow yes...its the pouch which was the culprit as we noticed the screen going crazy....Anyway I was relaxed but from that instance I kept aside the pouch that came with the pack and I am currently using a different one from the stores. Till now I have noticed no glitches and am happy I own a real amazing fast device.
About the other glitch you mentioned when the phone is locked yes I tried and it is there even for me but I dont think its a major issue for you to replace the device as its something to do with the screen refresh rate and memory which am sure would be fixed by new ROM upgrades in the days to come...but relax rest assured you own a fantastic device.
All the best
Thanks for posting this about the screen - I thought I was going nuts. I bought a replacement pouch that has a belt loop - so slightly more secure than the clip. But when i started using it - it always switches to landscape mode.
I'll have to find one without a magnet i guess!
I've had my 8525 for about 3 months, and now it constantly clicks the upper right hand corner and exits all of my programs! I'll soft-reset and sometimes it wont boot up, it just hangs at the windows logo screen. I upgraded the ROM to the newest from Cingular thinking it was some program that was doing it, but it comes back.
When it's in portrait mode, it's the upper right hand corner. When it's in landscape, it clicks the start button(upper left) so I dont think its a program thats making it click, but something physical touching that certain spot. Anyone have any idea?! I thought something was stuck in there but it's clean.. this is so annoying, I cant even make a call since it clicks exit when it comes up! It stops SOMETIMES for a few minutes but then it comes back after a while.. anyone else?
Give it a yung choo kung foo whack, take a run-up.
...
Sounds knackered, you could try the screen alignment fix, pressure from the gasket may be causing this:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=How to fix the Screen Aligment issue
Your best bet is to send it back for repair though .
I bought it off ebay.. so no warranty
It's weird because I take a very slim credit card( 1/2 the thickness as regular cards) and slide it in and bring up the plastic around the screen and it STILL does it!! nothing is touching the screen at all. Also, my alignment is still spot on perfect.. what gives?
Oh yeah, I did smack it a few times and it works sometimes.. It's been okay right now for about an hour but I know it's going to be short lived..
Did you try loosening the screws?

Yours is the third or forth report of that error. My Trion had the exact same problem, and I needed to exchange it (bought it new from O2, so it was under warranty).
None of the screen alignment fixes I tried made any difference. The problem was also temperature dependent - when the Trion was cold, everything was okay. Leaving backlight on and listening to MP3s for five minutes was enough to make the problem appear - first, only a few fake 'taps', then more and more, and eventually the screen didn't recognize any of my taps at all.
So it seems to be a hardware issue. The only software solution I could think of: back in WM 2003 days, there was a registry setting to increase/decrease the touchscreen sensitivity. If it still exists in WM5 (don't know, sorry. Others may be able to tell you), you could try setting it to be quite insensitive. Might help.
Cheers

Thanks for the reply, now that I think of it, it only happens when it's warm. Looks like I'm SOL. Oh well, I guess ill put up with it until the iPhone comes out.. ill try loosening the screws too.
Your case is putting pressure on that part of your screen. It is not device specific. Slip a piece of paper under the case to check for clearance. I use under the case screen protectors and have seen this before. You may be able to simple pry the case and create some clearance.
I have exactly the same symptoms. It seems the registry settings do not exist in the Hermes to adjust the sensitivity so I am thinking return for replacement must be the only option. Argh! I feel defeated

I've inserted a small piece of plastic between the frame and the screen (one month ago).
Here you will find a resume of proposed working solutions
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1056346&postcount=227
Can you tell us the serial of your Hermes? (HTC62xxxxx, 63, 64)
That is the same problem I had with my 8525. I tried ALL the solutions here in the forum but nothing solved it. I finally returned it to Cingular and they gave me a brand new one with zero hassle. Two weeks in on the new one, and it's working like a champ (knock on wood).
the S/N is HT657xxxx
Nothing is putting pressure on the screen, I've pried some clearence between that part of the screen and it still does it. I dont even have a Cingular account, so I doubt they'd help me
My only other option is to take it apart(following the japanese website instructions) and see what's going on.. Maybe something underneath the screen is doing it? I dont know..
Oh yeah, not only did i loosen the screws behind the screen but I completely removed them and it STILL does it. I found the registry setting for screen sensitivity and lowered it from 7,xxxx to 5,xxx and it did nothing..
