BlackBerry Connect IT Policy? - Networking

I use BlackBerry Connect 4.0.0.103 on my HTC Kaiser running WM6.1. It works fine, however I would prefer Exchange ActiveSync. The IT policy that has been defined by our IT dept enforces a complex password policy. This means the default WM6 'Lock' is replaced by the BlackBerry Security one and must be a combination of letters and numbers and cannot be disabled. By default it is set to 10-minutes of inactivity, however this isn't enforced and you can reset this to up to 60-minutes however it cannot be disabled as the 'Password Enabled' checkbox is checked and greyed our. This is a real pain, plus when the policy refreshes itself it resets to 10-minutes. If you are driving with it in a cradle there is no way the password can be entered. With the previous WM6 lock a simpler 4-digit PIN could be used.
I have read the various posts on stopping the 'BlackBerrySecurity(BBD0)' Service to disable this however it doesn't work with this version of BBC (and probably the latest version as well?). Yes it stops the service, but after a period of time (probably the inactivity time?) it puts the device into a state that cannot be 'woken up' - power button doesn't work, incoming phonecalls or SMS do not wake it. All you can do is soft reset it, which makes this supposed workaround unusable.
I have searched high and low and cannot find a way around this annoying 'corporate lock'. I am grasping at straws here but was hoping someone has worked out how to disable or reset this policy? I have read posts on how to remove the IT policy from 'real' BlackBerry devices but none for the WM version of BlackBerry Connect.
Any help is appreciated. And before anyone asks why, asking the IT dept to disable this isn't an option.
Andy

Andy, you have my complete sympathy - I have the same issue. I use Memmaid which can disable this. However, on every soft reset you need to go into Memmaid every time. I have this programme coming up on start-up but I would prefer to be able to do a soft reset on my phone without having to go into Memmaid always....
Does anyone else know how to do this?

Hi Paul,
Do you not also get the 'sleep-of-death' behaviour after you stop the BlackBerry Security service? I could live with disabling the service after a soft-reset as I don't reset it very often. However I also get the 'sleep-of-death' where there is no way of waking the device up after a period of inactivity - only option is a soft-reset.
I am just hoping our IT dept see sense and enable Exchange ActiveSync in the near future....

Hi Andy,
Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I have been trying wwwes' mortscript and have not had any luck yet.
With regard to your question, there is no "sleep-of-death" behaviour after stopping the Blackberry Security Service. There are no after effects at all. If you don't mind having to input your password and then disabling the Blackberry Security Service in MemMaid after soft resetting, then this will definitely work fine for you. You can set your phone up to automatically start MemMaid following a soft reset. You do this by putting a shortcut to MemMaid in your startup folder in the Windows directory. You can even make sure MemMaid starts on the same screen as last visitted by going into advanced tools within the MemMaid programme, so you will only need to tap on the green button next to "Blackberry Security" and then exit MemMaid.... Quite easy, but as soft resetting is such a good thing to clear ram and make programs run quicker/smoother, I want this to be without having to wait 1 minute & then having to do all this faffing about.... I'll post back if wwwes gets back to me with my query on the Mortscript method.

This isn't how my Kaiser behaves, it may have something to do with the version or even the security policy. If I stop the BlackBerry Security Service I always get this 'sleep-of-death' behaviour. I have tested it many times and it is always the same. It is really annoying......
Ah well, apparently our IT dept has realised ActiveSync exists and are testing it at the moment so I might get my wish at some point in the near future...

Hi Andy,
I wonder - are you stopping the Blackberry Security or deleting it? If you delete it then it will crash on you. Have you tried MemMaid and just stopped the application? I am still trying to get this Mortscript to work, but still no success. I think this would be the answer to our problem because it doesn't interfere with the IT policy.

Look, believe me I know what I am doing......
I am using DotFred's Task Manager. I open the 'Services' tab, select the 'BlackBerrySecurity(BBDO: )' service and select 'Stop'. This then stops the annoying lock/password screen every 10-minutes. However if the phone goes to sleep for more than 10-minutes you can't wake it back up, all you can do is soft reset it. It doesn't ring, none of the buttons respond - it's in a 'sleep of death' as I described it initially. The only indication it is still alive is the GSM LED flashes.
I am just living with it at the moment and waiting for Exchange ActiveSync to be enabled for my account.

Bad luck. Sounds like a complete pain in the butt. I couldn't live with having to unlock it every 10 minutes. Chase your IT department up!

Andy,
I have managed to (partly) get the mortscript thing to work. I have got it working so that I do not need to disable the Blackberry security after a soft reset. In fact it is running all the time. The mortscript works nearly in an instant, so won't interrupt you in any way. In any event, it only operates when you are not using it by default!
See this link for details: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3712096#post3712096
I hope you can get this working fully on yours..... I can't seem to get it to remove the need for inputting the first password immediately following a soft reset. However, it does work at other times. I am still trying, but am a complete newbie to Mortscript.
Good luck.

O2 Mini Slooooooooow

Just getting to grips with my new mini after putting my XDA2i to one side - and it's slow as hell.
I've found some apps can take 20 secs or more to load - and I'm using the standard apps, with no tweaks at all. It’s completely unusable so I’m assuming something s wrong otherwise everybody would be talking about this.
I'm now resetting it to the basic install (Hard reset followed by a soft reset as the customisation is about to install) – I’ll post me results later…
Some other points:
- What an amazing box - better than opening a new Mac
- Why oh why do those f*ckers as MS STILL have to put us through a noob cut & paste exercise on every reset.
- Did anybody else get the basic/business/full O2 install options promised in the quick start manual? I never saw this option on startup.
So anyway, I've got an O2 clean machine, manually configured my connections, and surprise surprise, everything is (more or less) zipping along.
It’s noticeably more sluggish that the 2i, but that’s expected – now all I need is a third part app that will allow me to assign one of the hard buttons to the light so I have a handy torch on me – anybody got any ideas?
More great news – PocketTV is now available for WM5 – www.pockettv.com

What is it you've done? Reinstalled the OS from a non O2 ROM or something?
I'll go have a look round, which will probably answer my question.
Rolo.
Rolo,
You need to do a hard reset (see the manual) – Once you’ve got the ‘press the send key to blatt everything’ message you need to press the green phone button, but don’t worry if you get it wrong as the other buttons don’t seem to do anything. (another triumph for the O2 technical authors). Then after going through the setting up process you will be told that the O2 extensions will be loaded in 5 seconds, - before it can do this do a quick soft reset (stylus in the hole, no keys pressed).
Then you will need to set up the network settings. In programs there is an application called O2, and in that you can ‘get settings’. This may do the settings for you – it’s worth a try, as you can always reset it again afterwards if you want.
Anybody know what this program does?
Thanks for the help. I'll give that a go . I found that disabling the MSN toolbar from the today screen made quite a difference to performance as well.
I find it hard to believe anyone could put up with it as it is. Bah.

I've just tried it. Selected the only menu item which said "Get settings". A text message popped up at the bottom saying "SMS sent", but visibly it didn't do anything else. I've waited a couple of minutes to see if I'll maybe get a message back with the settings or something, but nothing yet. My network settings are blank.
I'll give it half an hour or something and have a look and see if I can find the settings. If it's simple enough for you to point me in the direction (UK 02) that'd be cool, otherwise no worries - I presume this is for GPRS type stuff?
Thanks again for you help.
Rolo.
I was also not given the different install options on first start up. However, i did a hard reset and not by the method in the manual which didn't work - there is a 'CLEAR STORAGE' option in system settings that works instead. Then on startup i chose BASIC install and the O2 UI was not installed. So much faster now - it was ridiculous before.
The key thing is that this way, you get the speed increase and you won't need to manually input all the settings. Much better

I used what was in the PDF manual linked to in the Wiki which was comms+voice+reset. The Wiki originally said it was camera+voice+reset.
Comms + voice + reset didn't work for me. Tried it for ages. It's important people know this in case the hard reset doesn't work for them either

Annoying Device Lock

Hi All,
I have a VPA Compact II (Cingular 8125) and am synchonizing this with the Exchange Server of my company.
My company have set a policy that the device is locked after 15 minutes.
My problem here is that I am using a navigation software and during my ride the device igets locked every 15 minutes. Very annoying.
Anybody knows a solution for this?
Is there a way to keep alive the device?
Thanks
Ooops.
SOrry found the solution already.

Sorry again
Must.....get......feedback.....
rogierh,
Let me know how it works. I've received zero feedback on this. I'm curious if people are using it, but just not posting feedback or if its too damn complicated and I need to refine my directions.
Justin
Hi,
I just installed and configured it as you discribed.
Unfortunately my device still gets locked up after 15 minutes (from the policy).
Till the 15 minutes are over the device is kept alive. Normally the backlight would die after 2 minutes, it now stays switched on.
Any idea?
I used the short methode of step 3.
Thanks a lot for your help.
Couple of questions first....
1) What gps software are you using?
2) When you open SKScheMa, does it say "WATCH ON" in the lower right corner?
Justin
Using TomTom.
Yes its ON
I think its a wizard or WM5 problem as it happens with me when listening to MP3s too
Sucks having a 15min lock policy, as i just set a 1hr timeout for mine and its enough to stp it irritating you much.
Is there anyway you can just "Forget" the policy or are you unable to.
Try these files...
Delete the old sksc and sksw file and try these files.
If they work, I'll post them to the original thread (which you posted in your second post). Place these files as described in steps 2 & 3. Sorry for the headache.
Let me know if this works.
Justin
Hmmm sorry to say, still the same.
It keeps the device alive till the 15 minutes policy comes in.
Might this be some other kind of trigger?
Some new files....
rogierh,
Sorry for the headaches. What I'd like to try next is have you try a new set of files. The ones you tried yesterday was supposed to prevent the device from locking by simulating the pressing of the "home" key. I'm wondering if this key doesn't work on your Wizard (I'm using a Universal). These new files will now simulate the pressing of the "enter" button. (Just so you know, when I tested this program on my JasJar/Universal, I did find that using certain "simulated" keys would not work. So maybe the "home" key doesn't work on your Wizard.).
Now this will not be the end solution. When you press the enter key when TomTom is running, it will bring up the main menu. When you press the enter button a second time, it returns you to the navigation screen. I want to test to see if SKScheMa is running properly. If it is, when you launch TomTom and don't touch anything, you should be able to see the screen cycle between the main menu and the navigation screen every 58 seconds.
Let me know if you see this behavior.
Thanks
Justin
Hi,
First of all thanks a lot that you are helping out here.
It doesn't seem to work. The screen does NOT change to the menu and back.
One comment, because I have a German device (unfortunately) , the program is in German as well. But that should not be a problem with the script I think.
You mention in your guide do click to ok button on the right top side. This closes the program and I do not find it running when looking under the started programs in settings. Is this correct?
I also tried not clicking ok, but this does not change anything.
Just trying to think with you. Is the ENTER key the same code as on your device?
BR Rogier
German.....
Thanks for the info on German. My guess is that the application name may be different (i.e. it's not TomTom Navigator but rather a German title). There's a relatively easy way to check.
First open TomTom.
Next, press the 'contacts' button.
From there, you should see the Windows Start Menu. Go to Windows Start -> Settings -> System -> Memory -> Running Programs.
There should be a list of the applications running. Do you see "TomTom Navigator" or something else?
Thanks
Justin
P.S. I think the code will work on non-english versions, but only the developer can really answer that.
The Name of TomTom Navigator is the same.
Also the SKSchema Program is in German of course :-(
Is there an other option in SKSchema I can test to see if this is working at all?
(I am waiting on a new english ROM from our IT department.)
You can experiment and create some "watch" functions/programs. I recommend that you use the program to create some test cases. Here's a link to their instructions on how to create watch programs (and scripts too):
http://s-k-tools.com/skschema/skschema.0409.htm
For example, when I learned how this program work, I created "test cases" in the watch section of the program. Some things you may want to try:
When a program is running (make it easy by using Contacts, Calendar, etc), play a sound.
Once you've created this "watch" script, SKScheMa will "watch" for the program to be launched and when I sees that it has been launched, it will continuously play a sound while the program is running.
Once you've sucessfully completed the sound test, you just start customizing it to your needs. For example, the next test may be to simulate pressing a key when the application is running. The simulation of pressing a key should prevent your device from locking. Using this test, you can see if your device still "locks" after 15 minutes.
Justin
P.S. I'm sorry you're having so much difficulty. If I can help you further (not that I've really helped you thus far), please let me know.
He no worries, I will have a look this weekend.
Many thanks.
Rogier
Unlocked device and updated to english ROM (finally).
Will test again.
simulating the pressing of the "enter" button now seems to work. COOL.
Will test with the other file now.
:-D
Ooooooo YES!!!!!
I am a Happy Man. This works now.
Seems the German Version of the Utility does not liked the script or so.
On an Englisch ROM all seems to work fine.
Thanks a lot for your help.
Rogier
Congrats....
I'm glad it worked out. I can't help but wonder....why does the language make a difference. I'm not a programmer so I guess I'll never know.
BTW, you can use SKTools to keep other programs open too. Let's say you want to keep your device alive while surfing the internet. You can develop a similar script for Pocket Internet Explorer/Opera/NetFront. I use it to keep alive TomTom and iGuidance. Take care. Justin
Thanks a lot for the tip.

No more notifications or reminders

I have an O2 xda Neo (PM300) running Windows Mobile 5 Pocket PC.
All of a sudden I noticed I no longer receive notifications or reminders of appointments or tasks on my "today" page nor any audible sounds. Even though I have:
1. Enabled sounds for reminders in "sounds & Notifications"
2.checked the "display message on screen" and "play sound" boxes in the "notifications" submenu
3.Checked the "set reminders for new items" box in the "appointments" sub menu in "options" in "calendar" (and done the same for "tasks"
My clock is correct. I have soft reset the unit a few times, I have set sample appt's and tasks and attempted to set a reminder for 5 minutes prior just to test and still nothing...
It was working fine upto maybe a couple weeks ago and just stopped working one day. I am at a loss, as the sheduling/task/appoitntment aspect is the main reason for me going the pocket pc route.
Now, I have no advance warning of tasks or appt's other than the calendar displaying the next few or so the day of or day before.
Very frustrating!
Look for Check Notifications ScaryBear Software. This program might be you solution
I had the same problem this week.
In my case it was either the (failed) installation of pocket clock or pocket max phone alarm that did it.
I loaded a previous week's sprite back-up (program part only) and that fixed the problem. I have not tried to reinstall pocket max phone alarm.
Will not reinstall pocket clock because that did not work anyways.

I have exactly the same problem - but unfortunately cannot remember when it showed up the first time. I do not want to try a hard reset, also checking pocketmax seems that they only advise to do a lot of reinstallations. And I worry the problem will show up again later as I want to continue using phone alarm. I rather would like to change registry entries.
- Anybody has some idea what to change?
- I found an empty string value WAVEFILE in HKKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\calendar\reminder - can anybody tell me their value here
- same empty value is in HKKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Tasks\reminder
Thanks Hase01
I had the exact same problem 2 weeks ago on my JAMin - suddenly noticed that I had not been receiving reminders/notifications.
I had not installed any new software, etc., to cause this, I had simply been using the PDA in the same manner as for the preceeding weeks/months.
Hase01, unfortunately the way I fixed it was with a hard reset. Why do you not want to try this? I found that once the reset had been done, it took all of 5-10 minutes to reload all the files and to reinstall the software I had previously been running. It's not that big a deal......

I am not a friend of hard resets, that's why I am hesitating. And I am not sure how far I have to go back, as I was in vacation for some time and only afterwards started missing the reminders.

- HKCU\ControlPanel\Notifications\Defaults
Do you use phone alarm?

Just download my Free Task Manager found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=280104
1) Launch it on your pocket pc
2) Select Notifications tab
3) First try to remove duplicates
4) Try to remove SCRIPT:0x000...
If it still doesn't work, select all of them and disable them.
Do a soft reset and create a new notification, if it works, I suggest you to enable only the necessary notifications, so those like:
CALENDAR.EXE
\Windows\calupd.exe
replog.exe
calnot.exe
clocknot.exe
and delete all [none] notifications

Glad to hear that... Anyway, this is another solution that works.
One of my colleagues had the same problem, about 570 notifications. We tried first to remove duplicates and SCRIP:0x000 events, but the problem remained.
After the remove he still had more than 400 notifications. So I selected them all and disabled them via TM. After soft reset we created a test notification and it worked. So as I mentioned in my previous post, we enabled back the needed notifications and we removed the rest. Now everything is fine.
I have noticed that most of the time, this problem appears when you synchronize your calendar with multiple pc's.

The smart thing with the alarmtoday solution was that I did not need to take care about notifications, deletions etc. I just installed AT and all notifications came back. And btw, I usually sync only with one PC, seem to be a WM5 problem.

I was almost in my bed!
1) Try to disable all notifications (don't worry, they are stored in the registry, so you won't lose any of them, except if you do a hard reset, or delete the reg entries).
2) Soft reset and make a test

1) Try to disable all notifications (don't worry, they are stored in the registry, so you won't lose any of them, except if you do a hard reset, or delete the reg entries).
2) Soft reset and make a test
3) if it works, just enable the notifications as mentioned in my first post until the problem is back (or not).

Thanks for late night reply - I am living in the same time zone btw
May be I have to install your task manager, sk-tools is not able to disable notifications, only delete is possible. Do you think this might help, I won't be able to install you tm before the weekend? I don't have duplicate entries and no SCRIPT:0x000.. entries.

By disabling all entries, it's like cleaning the notifications database. So it will surely solve your problem (temporary anyway).

I tried to use you TM on my WM2003 SE ppc as I always do before I run a new program on my Qtek S200 (it's nearly impossible to deinstall a program only manual deletion of all files works). Unfortunately it does not run on my IPAQ. It starts but dies after 0.5 secs. Did you ever had this problem?

You're not the first one telling me this. I don't know why it doesn't work on IPAQ with WM2003SE.
But, you can launch it on your Qtek s200 without any doubt. I already tested it myself on Qtek 2020, 9090, 9100, Mitac Scoter A701 and HTC P3600 without any problem found.

I got the notifications back. I think it was basically repaired by installing alarmtoday again from backup. I think the problem could have been caused by the new sktools version. Strange.
B.t.w. do you need a beta tester for oyur TM on IPAQ. Then just sent me a pm
Hase
Ok. I have the same problem recently.. unsure what is the problem, but it seems that softreset *cause* (not solve) the problem, some what.. during my testing.
Anyway, I tried a few solutions listed, and the easy one is to use the TaskManager (freeware) to find the notification with 'Status' is in 'signalled'. These are passed notifications and it seems that these are causing the problem. As soon as I've removed them, the problem seems to have solved.
Then, I tested it again, by removing the 'Init_tray' from the startup and do a softreset. I tried it again, and it doesn't work. I check again on Task Manager, those 'signalled' stuff are back.

Alarm clock will not stop!!

I set up an alarm clock on my P3600. When it woke me up I didn't get the soft key to shut it off. From that point off - it hounts me. Soft reset the device so many times in the last few hours it's driving me crazy. I will get the wakeup tone right after I soft reset EVERY TIME. and then every few hours during the day. I had MS Voice command which I removed. I tried to set a new alarm but that one just added yet another unstopable reminder. I think I also don't get notification for meetings so maybe something is wrong in the registry???
HELP... I don't want to HR the device.
WM5 by the way.
Thanks,
Nir
By the way - tried to remove the notifications from the queue using pocket mechanics but after soft reset - they all came back....
Had the same problem, what solved it was a hard reset.

had the same problem also...
only hard reset helped...
what s/ware are you using for your alarms?
I was using the built-in clock.
Just hope that official WM6 is out soon so I have two good reasons to HR..
i have the very same problem!!! any ideas how to resolve it without HR?

I didn't find any
sometimes ago i install some 3rd party alarm and remove it, bcoz it did not suit me. and install another one.
but first one left some message in notification queue, which always complain "Cannot find program bla-bla-bla...".
solution: install any software (like SKTools) and look inside notification queue (this queue respond for any notifications/alarms/etc..) and cleanup unwanted notifications.
hope, this helps.
added: sorry - did not read that you already try to do this. but anyway this is a problem - notification queue somehow hold this record which annoy you. you just have to find the way to clean it...
Same problem here, what I do was recover from a backup taken a day before the problem start. That solve it.
The problem start suddenly...
I try soft reset, turn the device off (remove the battery) and then turn it on again, also do the MemMaid 2.0 stuff with no positive results...
Sprite backup was my solution.
WM5 (factory rom, GPS enabled)
Default built-in clock, no alarm managers or any third party software.
Broken Alarm Clock
I have same problem on my Orange M700 (standard) and still do, even after a hard reset!? Excuse my possible lack of knowledge, but could this be just an issue with the registry? Or the original WM setup files?
Same problem on S300+. I don't want to make a hard reset.
Does anybody found a registry solution or something less violent ?
hmm.. maybe using alarm software ? that's helped me before.. instead performing HR of course..

Blackberry Connect on Topaz working

Hello Together,
here's solution on how to get Blackberry Connect running on Topaz:
Instructions:
------------
- Make sure you have uninstalled blackberry connect before doing the following.
- Attached you will find a small zipped executable (EnableBBCTopaz.exe). Unzip it and copy it over to the \windows\ folder of your device.
- Open a registry editor and navigate to HKLM\init
Create a new string with the name "Launch130" and a value of "EnableBBCTopaz.exe" (without the quotes of course)
If Launch130 already exists, choose a number higher than, it doesn't really matter, just make sure it is higher than the other entries so it get started after everything else.
This makes sure the exe ist started after every softreset.
- Make a softreset, or execute the EnableBBCTopaz.exe manually.
- The program changes your model-id from "HTC-Topaz" to "HTC-Raphael" in memory
- Install Blackberry Connect like you usually do (My tests where successfull with version 4.0.0.104, 4.0.0.106 didn't work for me -- just hung up after a restart)
- After installation and the auto-reset through BBC open the BBC settings and go to the Info-Tab. Under device-name there should now be HTC-Raphael.

The solution is in fact the one from Rhodium forum, the respect goes to them, in particular to c0rnholio. The instructions are also copied from their thread. I just changed the program to fit to Topaz.
hi gnick.
Thanks a lot for providing a solution for this issue, but I cannot get it working...
The Client keeps stating: "PIN Pending". When I try to register the account the data tunnel gets established for a second but then it gets disconnected again.
The SIM is working fine in a Blackberry.
I already tried to reinstall the BB Client several times, but I always got the same results.
The device-ID is set to HTC-Raphael, so that shouldn't cause any issues.
Additionally I tried to kill the bbmain.exe and suspended the log and security services and reenabled them after a few seconds, but still no success.
If you have any further hints on what to try, pls. let me know...
Thanks in advance,
TheOmen666
Which blackberry client version do you have?

Hi again,
I tried with versions .106 and .104.
Same behaviour with both versions ;(

Hmm, hard to tell, really.
Which provider do you have? Your provider needs to support HTC Raphael.
Mine (Vodafone Germany) does support HTC Raphael (Touch Pro).

Thanks for the tip, but I too cannot get it to work. It did work in my HTC Diamond (that's Diamond "1", not "2"). I wonder - can you change the programme to suit the Diamond 1 instead please? I mean Diamond 1 instead of HTC Raphael. I wonder if this will make a difference.
By the way, does anyone know if RIM will bring out any software to make this all work?
Hi mitsi, did it work at the end?

Hi Gnick, partly. I got it to work with stopping the Blackberry Service and then activating the programme (your one) after a soft reset. However, after every soft reset, I will need to do the same process.
Open MemMaid
Stop Blackberry Service
Open File Explorer
Start your programme
Open File Explorer
Start BlackberryMain.exe
Close File Explorer
Enjoy emails.
This is too much like hard work, so I think I will be either selling my Diamond 2 and going back to my Diamond 1 or keeping both, using the Diamond 1 and waiting for a better fix to become available by subscribing to this thread (and others) and hoping that decent clever chaps like yourself will come up with a fix!!!
By the way, one other item that needs fixing is that I am only able to have my work email on this. I do not have the Blackberry Secure Internet (the one to send service packs and add other email accounts). So I can't get my home email..
There is one other alternative by the way:
This is to write a Mortscript programme that does this tedious process automatically.... I have made enquiries to someone I know....
@gnick
Thats a good point, asking for the Provider...
Well I checked the websites of T-Mobile Germany and the last device I found, where you could officially download the bbconnect client was the "Kaiser" (Mda Vario III, HTC TyTN II, AT&T Tilt ).
This means, that I either have to get rid of my Topaz or convince you to make a special version where the model-id is set to the one of the Kaiser (I only found "KAIS120") but I am absolutely unsure wether this is the korrekt model id used for the bbconnect client.

TheOmen666
Hi All,
I finally got it working.
As I am running WM 6.5 on my device, I had to change the AKU String in the Registry HKLM\System\Versions to ".1.6.3".
After changing this, I got a PIN and could do the Enterprise Activation with my account.
Thanks a lot to all for the effort to get this working on the Topaz.
Cheers,
TheOmen666
Hi All,
I too got it working. I followed the tips on this thread and on the one by cOrnholio with the following notes:
AKU set to .1.6.1
BBC version 104 worked (106 didn't) just as you said gnick .
Blackberry still crashes Manila sometimes when deleting the last email and exiting tmail.
I cannot activate my other email accounts as the Blackberry Browser (I think this is BES) does not load, even after the prompt "The internet connection is currently in use by the BlackBerry browser. Would you like to temporarily disable BlackBerry browsing? Yes/No". Once disabled and refreshed, it still does not connect. I think I read this on cOrnholio's thread.
Sent mail from pc does not redirect mail to the sent mail folder on the D2 but into the inbox instead.
The soft reset problem still exists, but it does at least work. My D2 has now had emails for the last 3 days.... Fortunately the D2 is more stable than the D1 so soft resets are required less often.
My thanks go to gnick and cOrnholio for this. I can now use my D2!
By the way, I have made some simple shortcuts which make the process following a soft reset simpler:
Add shortcut to BBMain.exe to the start menu
Add shortcut to MemMaid to the start menu
Set MemMaid to re-open at same page in Advanced Settings
A couple more tips for new people at this:
Be patient. Sometimes you can try the same solution more than twice and get different results
Be patient. The IP Address and PIN don't always appear immediately.....
Regards

Me too.

BBC version 104 worked.

Hello mitsi, setting the "Launch130" key in the registry to EnableBBCTopaz.exe as described in the instruction in the first posting should ensure that EnableBBCTopaz.exe starts automatically befire BBC. This is the "clever" way to autostart it without doing any manual work. If it doesnt autostart, that could mean that you have a spelling error in the regkey name, regkey value, or that you havent placed the file in the \windows folder.

Hi gnick,
I must admit, I haven't checked this, but I have had problems before with Blackberry. Because our IT Dept in their wisdom have set the security to lock the phone after 60 minutes of inactivity, I keep having to unlock it. I have a Mortscript programme which does this for me thanks to EdSub, but it would appear that Blackberry takes a higher pecking order after a soft reset so the Mortscript isn't activated before Blackberry, no matter how I try to configure it. Therefore, I suspect Blackberry will start before your programme too, so it would then think the phone is a D2 instead of a Rafael immediately after soft reset.....
If your Blackberry has the Security Policy set by your IT Department, you too may have this issue, but otherwise, it may be possible to start your programme before Blackberry starts.
Isn't it all rather silly??? The things we do to get our phones to our liking eh???

It shouldn't take longer than a few minutes. You may be able to help it on it's way by going into Blackberry settings, then in the Utility tab, press "Register Now". Then if you go to the Identy tab your PIN and IP address should appear hopefully.
nothing appens when i press "activate now "....
same probleme with a touch hd ...Bes account has been reset ...but pin and ip still pending
i'll wait ...
want a good new : already broke my digitizer yesterday :s got to change it ...
News from HTC
Hi All,
For your information, I sent the following question to HTC:
"Dear Sirs, I have an HTC Touch Diamond 2. I have requested information before on how to get Blackberry Connect working on this phone but had the response "we don't support third party applications". This is fair enough, but please see this link: http://www.htc.com/sea/SupportViewNews.aspx?dl_id=497&news_id=61. If you support this on other HTC phones, then why not the Diamond 2? Do you have plans to develop this further? I would appreciate your help/comments on this please."
I received this response from HTC:
"New Response From [ Mike (EU team) ]
Hi Paul,
The link you found is for Asian devices, not European ones.
Blackberry Connect is not supported by HTC Europe and there are no plans to release the 3rd party application or test its compatibility.
Please contact Research In MOtion to see if there is compatible version for your device.
Best Regards
Mike"
Hopefully they will change their minds in the future. Has anyone tried RIM?
mine worked 2 days later
had to wait only because my orange data network was pending ...
now it works perfectly
