Not sure, but it seems that my T9 list is remembering passwords I entered. Don't like that as anyone who would get my PDA could find out my passwords by typing some text, in the suggested words my passwords will pop-up if you guess the first char(s) right. Am I right here? It doesn't seem logical if it would work like this.
Mmmm.... either this is so obvious no one likes to even bother answering or nobody cares (which would surprise me) or nobody really knows what can be done about it... Someone you wants to tell me which one is true? ;-)
disable auto completion
But then I won't have T9 anymore, right. I guess I can't have them both I guess??
why not just try disabling T9 when you enter a password? it's a one-tap slidey box so not hard to do...

Thanks, that's possible and might be the best thing to do.
Better would be if T9 would AUTOMATICALLY disable for input in fields that are for passwords... guess that wouldn't be rocket-science now would it?

I have this perfect model, but one big problem with t9 entering text. I need disable this funkcion for ever. Can somebody advice?
Hey, I am having the same issue. It always tries to predict / complete my words but it never does it correctly. I have changed it to stop doing it in both the Touch Keyboard settings and the input settings.
Any guidance would be helpful.
This will disable T9 but...
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Tegic\eT9\ and change the key "XT9SupportMSSip" from value "1" to "0".
... I did this as well as disabling the HTC built in keyboards via SKTools. I also installed 'PCMKeyboard' and 'IM selector' (To set PCM as the default).
In doing all of this, now on reset, one of the HTC keyboards still looks like it's default and I do not get predictive text anymore. Meaning that if I start a new email or sms, enter a letter in the 'To:' field, it wont suggest a contact.
I really haven't poked around as to what is going on so I'm living with it because I like the PCM keyboard to much.
Any help would be great. Thanks!
Your registry advice is not working on my device.
I obtained this reg suggestion through a thread in the 'elf' forum. I needed to use it to enable 'PCMkeyboard'. Sorry, I can no longer find the thread I was reading. You may want try and search for some clues there.
try this
try this
i think it will fix the problem
Hi GUys
The cab file works fine so well done.....
However if you are looking to use your keypad to msg[without T9] it wont work as the file disabled the use of letters, only numbers now work
Any chance that T9 can be turned off and still be able to use keypad to msg as normal.........
Thanks
Has there been any progress on this???
I'm tired of typing using the keyboard, along with the touchscreen and suggestions being made, then if i'm not looking, i press space and it adds the damned suggestion onto what i've typed (for instance: twotoo / memean)
Very annoying when trying to type a text quickly and sneakily in work, as i've got to focus on the text and not who's around me!
If it can be switched off, I would highly appreciate it, I can't find it in the Advanced Config Tool, or under any of the settings.
Thank you,
Hate to do this, but any ideas anyone???
Thank you,
(Disclaimer to the Mods: I know there are some threads about changing the htc_ime etc, but these are not the same subject)
When I uncheck spell correction / word completion in the input options of touch input and prediction is checked, I still get a kind of autocorrection with some words. I am unable to input a small "i" and "im" is always transformed to "I'm".
As far as I know, there is no german dictionnary for the jf / cm builds yet. So I use the english dictionnary and try to save almost every word I use, so that the phone learns german. I don't understand why I can't tell the phone to accept "i" and "im"???
Any help? Maybe help with german dictionnary for prediction and auto correct?
Try unchecking the settings in device keyboard. Maybe its linked to it in a way
Everything is unchecked, I even did a reboot to be sure there is nothing left somewhere. The only thing that is checked, is prediction

very funny!
In my understanding of the different options prediction is just a proposal you can use ore not use.
spell correction, word completion, auto-capitalization and quick fixes (android keyboard) are automatically done.
So if you just check the prediction everything should be fine. Aside from that, it should be possible to enter a new word to teach the phone a new spelling. Try to enter a single small "i" or "im". You won't succeed. Of course I could uncheck everything, but then there is no chance that some day I could use the prediction with my own entered words.

If you're talking about the HTC keyboard, they're idiots.
If you're talking about the google keyboard... i have all the options unchecked, and i can type"i" and "im" both on the software keyboard and on the hardware one.
interesting to know. so it is a htc ime issue. yes I am talking about the htc one.

Have you considered an alternative keyboard? Fingerkeyboard, for example, is very popular. This link is to the last release, which is obsolete, but it has some images on it, and a link to the latest version...

I personally like the default keyboard, but that one's not much different, but with extras
Hope this helps
I second that.
I like the original keyboard a lot, but the XT9 is kind of useless for Brazilian Portuguese.
If there is any way to definetly disable it, to prevent the annoyance of accidentaly turn it on, I also want to know...
Third that... really2 need a program to disable the T9...
love the original keyboard.. but the T9 button is bugging me..
after the update... although my screen is useless now.. i admit that the swype has improved.. so i'm begining to use it more now... but i can't get over at how many "useless" words are in the phone memory.. if i were to edirt swypes dictionary.. i would be able to make swype far more accrate... by disposing or deleting all the words that are incorrect or not even a word... any input on this?? is there a way to do it?
or to add words?

Adding words is easy. Tap out the new word and press "space" afterwards. Any new wiord you type out in this manner gets added to Swype's dictionary.
k, so any idea on how to edit swypes dictionary?? i can imagine that its set up similar to hd2 xt9 dictionary... am i correct?
I really liked the way the autocorrect worked on the Evo 4G keyboard. Is there a way to turn that on for the Vibrant?
It would also be nice to have the key pressed pop up above the key when I push it (to verify i hit the right one without moving my eye) instead of just flashing blue under my finger where I can't see it.
I'm trying to figure out how to change these two things...at least mainly the autocorrect.
Regarding swype.... not to hijack a thread... I no longer see how you add a word for swype to learn like it did previously? Used to, you would just long press and add the word to your dictionary. Anyone know how to do this?
Whenever you type a word in manually and hit space to go to a new word, it learns it. You can access the tutorial in "Swype Tips" in your app menu. It goes over this and other uses. You'll add the "word" "bob4" to the menu in the tutorial.
I found the answer to my question.
Apparently I was confused
If anyone else out there is confused...
The default keyboard is swype and to get the autocorrect working similar to Evo, you need to go to settings, then Locale and text, then Set default keyboard and change it to android. If you change to samsung keyboard, you have to enable the auto predict text thing.
I've been trying out swype now though, and I'm liking it.
^^ yeah, I did that.... I guess I'm just used to longpressing and adding words to my dictionary. I have tried to type in a-p-p-s, but I can never get swype to do "apps" for me.
