power consumption - Touch HD General

today i did a little testing. the "htc touch hd service manual" mentions a testing protocol for the lion akku.
http://htcdriver.com/index.php?page=htc-blackstone-touch-hd-service-manual
for that testing you use a program called powerdetect.exe
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=410653&page=2
switch on backlight fully, disable switch bl off and and start the program.
here are the result:
without WIFI: 89% capacity left after 1 hour
with WIFI: 69% capacity left after 1 hour.
wifi was switched to performance.
so be careful to leave wifi on. it will suck your batterie.

Yes, i know. In my opinion a wifi manager would be great :
A tool which runs in the background and where I could add my Internet programs I want to use (for example google maps). The tool should recognize when I start the google maps tool and the enable wifi. If the tool detects the closing of google maps, it disables wifi. With a short list I could add my tools and never have to solve the problem of wifi, because all works automatic AND saves a lot of power.

how can i stop my mobile web from connecting by itself!?

19 hours it was connect for before i realised!! seriously i was kinda annoyed.
ive changed the settings on twitter and weather so they only update manually but is there anything else i need to do.
thanks
x
Is this because you are worried about going over your internet allowance (500mbish) or because you want to save on battery? I'm a tad concerned about both and I would feel better if I could easily disable mobile web activating every so often.
All Settings --> Connections --> Connections --> Advanced --> Select Networks
There, select "My work Network". That will only allow it to connect through WiFi.
download nodata
it's available on here..
also touch x datadisconnect..

I'm afraid the only way to actually disable data connections is NoData (i uploaded it for you). If you change your connection settings it won't connect via HSDPA or GPRS but it will connect via WAP.
If you install NoData simply make a shortcut to it and turn on data connections whenever you need them.

contact HTC in your region, they send you a cab file that can disable all your data connections...alternatively there are a good few programs avl. on here as well.
hi
disable automatic updates in your weather program
The method provided by freyberry worked for me until I looked at my phone this morning, instead of Mobile Web it said "Pay Monthly Contract" and was active for 12 hours!
I guess I should get that cab!

Why do you want to stop it connecting?
You are only charged for actual data transfer, not for time connected, and the amount of data used for FB and Twitter updates is relatively small anyway.
If you are being charged for all data I can understand your problem as you would want to stop some of the background downloads, otherwise there's really no point. The effect on battery life by disconnecting (as opposed to switching to GSM) is miniscule.

probably giving you a right headache now but, how do i do that ^
If you get charged for this, just tell the carrier that you accidently enabled it and didn't mean to use any data usage.
neilm i worry about it being left on. i realise that for the 19 hours it was left on it only used 3mb but it just niggles away at me, if i cant really disable it when i want & effectively i'll just accept it and try not to worry about it.

Hi, i have already used all methods discussed above. i have nodata and i also use the on/off switch to 3G network. The thing is that there IS a difference in battery times with all these... with 3G on and connection on battery lasts about 24 hours with minimal use. With 2G and connection on battery lasts 48 hours (2 days) with minimal use. With 2G and connection OFF from nodata it can hold 4 days on a single charge!
At least thats happening with my battery, coz i heard some stories about batteries holding 6-9 hours which never happened to me unless im using it fully for those 9 hours...
PS: by minimal usage i mean a couple of phone calls, a couple of sms and around 10-15 mins of internet connection either wifi or gprs just to update weather, twitter, email etc. The rest of its time, in sleep mode.

I'd say that 3MB in 19 hours without knowingly using any data is a bit of a concern
It may be wise to look into the updating schedules for location services, weather, twitter and Facebook (if you use them) and Stocks and Shares. The stocks and shares stuff does use a lot of data if you don't change the default settings.
For NoData- download the nodata.cab file to your phone then use File Explorer to locate it. Tap the filename to run it and this will install the program and place a shortcut in your Programs folder. You could then add the shortcut as one of the 9 links on the home page for easy access, to turn the data connection on & off at will

If those figures are typical for you, then you are doing very well! Most users see about 25-30% improvement by turning off 3G, and significantly less for turning data off.
It's important to realise that it is mostly data transfer that uses battery power, not the state of being connected or not. To go 4 days without any data transfer at all would mean a substantial reduction in overall device functionality, as you'd be simply using the installed programs in self contained mode- that may well limit the amount you even turn it on, so saving even more power. No email/web browsing/weather etc may well improve the battery life, but at what expense in terms of functionality?
As I mention above, it might be better to find out which programs are downloading data and at what intervals, and modify those settings to save both data use and battery life.
Not quite sure I am after the same as the op, but its close and I don't see the point in starting a new thread.
But I want my hd2 to use Wifi when I am connected to it and not the 3g connection. Had a quick search, but maybe I am using the wrong terms!! as i couldnt find anything.

The HD2 and all Windows Mobile phones ought to use an open WiFi connection in preference to the phone signal without you having to do anything.
There are some provisos though:
It must be a valid WiFi connection, so check that the device can use the WiFi signal properly
The data session needs to be initiated after the WiFi is turned on, or it may continue using the phone signal. So, for web browsing, exit the browser, and restart it after turning on WiFi. Stuff such as location services, weather updates etc might continue using the phone, but the amount of data they use is relatively small unless you have a very short update interval.
Wonder if anybody has made a cab: "Connect ONLY and ONLY using WiFi"
*lol*
if there is - I will get it

Wifi auto disable?

is there a app that turns off/disables the wifi when you leave the range? blackberry had an app for this and am hopeful android does too but i cant seem to find any so was wondering if anyone knows of one.
I'm going to bump this because i've been looking for this same program.
i think juicedefender (the payed ultimatejuice actually) claims to do this? it never worked for me though, but apparently it does for other people. give it a shot
i found 1 that sounds like it would of worked but cant find...
Sanga Wifi Enabler will automatically enable your wifi adapter only on those
locations where you actually use it.
When you are at a place where you don't regularly use your wifi adapter, Sanga Wifi Enabler
will turn off your adapter, thus greatly improving battery life.
Includes also bluetooth management.
also found and tried this BUT i didnt see it turn off my wifi when i went in town and noticed my GPS never stopped so i had to turn it off because i felt that along with my unused wifi being on i was using gps non stop...
Wifi Auto Enabler
Active or desactive automaticly Wifi in one or many zones saved . This soft not use Gps for save battery but use Gsm location .
(CELLULAR ( GSM ) LOCALISATION MUST BE ACTIVED ON PHONE PARAMETERS )
I use one called Y5 it turns off and on my wifi based on my location. It seems to work well.

now this looks like it might work! many thanks.
i figure the best way to make a working app is to save my location via cell towers around me like how phones without gps can guess your location within a area by triangulating the location. saving that specific location on an app just monitoring not using gps sounds like it might do better on battery with check ever so often (30min,1hr,...). once my location saved and i am in it the app triggers on the wifi. if im out of the area it truns the wifi off. im just sayin heh.

[Q]Autosync on FlightMode

hi, i have a Froyo HTC Desire there's a couple of thing I want to know.
I usually have a lot of correspondence via email (especially multiple gmail accounts) and i use my phone primarily when at home or on the go.
i set autosync and background data enabled all the time and set to update on very little intervals.
next, at work, i'll be relocated to a spot in the office that doesn't get any 3g/2g reception at all. and since i can access my mail through PC, i'm planning to just switch my phone to Flight mode while on my desk.
now my question. i've read a hundred times that Autosync eats a lot of jiuce. IF I put my phone in flight mode, and have no active connections or means to connect to any network, will Autosync still persist on connecting / syncing and drain my battery? or do i also have to manually turn background sync and autosync off?
if yes, is there an app that will disable Autosync persistence if flightmode is on or wifi/APN is off?
thanks in advance

Hi,
If I understand correctly you want to switch off any data communication of your phone.
I use a combination :
Sync Settings Version 1.0 - Free App
It places on your desktop a widget with 4 options.
wifi - on\off
Blu Tooth - on\off
Gps - on\off
Sync - Enable ..lets apps sync (incl Gmail.) Disable it disallows.
Brightness - quick controll over screen brightness
The second App I use is the DCSwitch - Free App
Creator described it best:
Code:
DCSwitch turns your data channel on/off to save battery power and/or bytes on a limited data plan.
Similar apps mangle the APN list of your phone, potentially leaving it with corrupt entries.
DCSwitch uses android's undocumented services to enable/disable the data connection in a clean, mean and concise manner.
With usig both of this apps ive been able to boost my battery life Alot. Also save some money on traffic.
Hope this helps you.
rgrds!

[Q] Juice Defender Ultimate - WLAN issues

Hi there,
A few days ago, I bought Juicedefender Ultimate on Android Market. I dont know, if my question is placed well in this board but since it may be related to porting Problems of Leo Android, I did.
For starters: I use HyperDroid GB ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=769026 ) from 31th of may.
Now my Problem:
I am running JD on "balanced" and then "advanced" (if some buttons are called different in english: I am using the german version and only translate the buttons name the best I can ;P)
I set JD to disable my mobile data and wifi when display turns off (with no traffic present). When I turn the display on, it starts the mobile connection - all the time... Though i am in my home Wifis range. When I look at the taskbar, there is prompted: "Data on (Display), Wifi off (User)" - But I never turned it off. Sometimes, there is written "Data on (Display), Wifi on (Display)" and shortly after, without having a wifi connection, it changes to "Wifi off (User)". When I come around and start the Wifi connection, it usually stays on till next devices sleep but even then sometimes Wifi turns down again (Wifi off (User)"... I really don't turn it off by myself but something seems to change it or its a bug in program or rom... I dont have any other "connection control apps"... Anly Autokiller Memory Optimizer (Free), Titanium Backup and SetCPU (as for the system changing Apps).
Do you have any idea what it may be?
I allready tried turning "Location" on and off in "Trigger Board" but only trained it to 75% so far... In "control Board" I set to "wifi preferred"
Thanks a lot,
cmoe
P.S.: "If i try to set the auto 2g mode, it tries to install "JuiceDefender AOSP helper" with no success... its another question but maybe someone knows why.... Thanks!

[4.3][Stock][Info] Prevent Android OS Battery Drain/Excess Data Usage

I have created this thread to help the people who have experienced the android os battery drain and excess mobile data use.
After sometime of research and testing I have found that the battery and mobile data drain by the android os (google networking/services) is caused by excessive connecting to servers to download data. This overrides STAMINA mode.
To fix the issue the best thing to do is to block the connection in the first place (switching off location did not help + I need sync on), so not only does the data usage stop but so does the battery drain. To do so follow the steps below (note: you need root, as non-root firewalls did not work for me)...
1) Install AFWall+ (Android Firewall +)-it is free.
2) Find Network location (scroll down the list) and check the box in the mobile data column (refer to attached screenshot).
3) Tap the 3 dot menu save this and enable the firewall.
Now the excessive downloading of data will stop preventing the battery drain as well. :good:
Note: The major drawback is that services such as Android Device Manager and MyXperia will not be able to locate the device but you can still share location with apps.
If this helped, press thanks!
if you simply disables the syncronisation , it's the same no ?

It depends, I personally prefer sync being on as I need it. I keep my mobile data on 24/7 this firewall prevents the explained problems whilst allowing me to use apps like CityMapper, WhatsApp etc... outside home. I can't remember but the problem may still occur with sync off.
To be honest I just want to sell my Xperia SP, outdated os, annoying bugs etc... but I just don't see a worthy replacement yet.
