For all cab files you can use these steps:
1. copy the .cab to your Artemis with windows explorer (it should appear under My Computer) or indirectly copy it to <My Documents>\<Documents on Artemis>. Then it will be copied to the Artemis My Documents folder when you synchronise using ActiveSync.
2. open windows explorer on the artemis
3. find your cab (probably in My documents or in the root of the device)
4. tap on the cab with the stylus
5. follow on-screen instructions (install on device or storagecard)
In this case (a driver or program u use all the time, even when you're changing sd-cards) I'd install on the device. In most cases (programs you use only when that sd-card is inserted) install on storagecard to keep as much space as possible on the device (so it can use it for running programs)
After the sdhc driver is installed, soft-reset your device and after that insert your sdhc card. You should now be able to read it.
Bit obvious!!!
didnt realise they were .cab files, thought i had to flash it somehow!!
Cheers

Does anyone know a way to install tomtom 5.21 straight from sd card on wm5, without having to install via my PC/activeysnc?
I can do it on my xda2i by just extracting the cab from the 5.21 exe file and putting that in the 2577 folder on the sd card. Works great, so if I get a device lockup and have to hard reset, I'm not going to get caught out and have to trek home for my PC just to reinstall tomtom. I just insert the SD card and everything installs itself. Sweeeeet.
But try the same on the wizard (and I guess any other wm5 device) and the install fails. I'm guessing its just a tomtom thing as their site does say you can only install using activesync. But thats so lame. It would be great if someone has found a workaround?
Install 5.1 first onto the SD card using the howto (and test). Then install 5.2. Move the new files that 5.2 CABs insist on putting in main memory (in /Program Files/Navigator, /Contacts Navigation, /TomTom) to the corresponding directories on the SD card (Note that the directory names are slightly different - keep the 5.1 names).
I've not had to test 5.2 yet, but 5.1 seems to work OK running purely from SD after a hard reset (i.e. with nothing installed to the PPC). The only thing I had to do was recreate the shortcut in the Start Menu. You might not be so lucky with the Contacts integration, but I don't use any of that.
Thanks for the suggestion, but it hasn't fixed the problem.
I've got around it by just copying across the ttn.cab file from the 5.21 exe onto the main memory of wizard and running it from there. This 1 cab file seems to install everything that the 4 cab files installed in 5.0 and 5.1.
It would still be nice if it would install straight from sd card, but at least now I don't have to install from my PC anymore - which was the main problem.
On the Wizard when you install an app by putting .cab file on the storage card or wherever it asks you where to put it. For instance before I sold my Wizard I put a .cab on the storage card and ran it from the phone and installed it on the storage card.
Just gone back to a Magician temporarily and forgot that if you put a .cab on the mem card and want to install it to the storage card, you can't and it installs it on the phone memory, which is small compared to a Wizard.
The only way I can see to be able to install files to storage card is if they are .exe and you either install them from PC and chose location or suchlike. No choice for .Cab files or is there ?
WinCE cab manager anyone ??
there's a little software called cabinstl_en.exe that allows you to select where to install the cab file.

your welcome. glad that it works for you too.
Hi all,
I want to know how to access the Extended Rom on my Magician. I tried installing Total Commander and going to "Extended_Rom" but it didn't work. I accessed it once when I hard reseted my phone and it was plugged in the USB cradle. I need to access the Extended Tom so I can make a copy of all pre-installed application setups.
Please Help.
The trick is after a hard reset, imediately do a soft reset immediately after the last screen alignment step. In this way the ext rom files are not installed and are viewable and can be copied to another partition of your device or to your pc via active sync. this procedure doesnt totally unlock the ext rom, thus you cannot delete and/or copy files from/to the ext rom partition.
In your windows directory find the exe - loadvdisk
run it
this will 'show' your extrom
Does it really not work
Some people had written, it should work to edit the extended_rom.
But all I found don't work on the magician. There are many unlocking tools for the extended rom.
The only way seems to be the big rom, where the memory of the extended rom is added to the storage folder. But with that method you will lose the contents of the extended rom.
OK, it is possible to save it on a sd card, but i am searching for a edit-solution, so not to delete the contents but ossible to use the free 5 mb in this folder.
I hope that sometimes anyone will find a simple solution not to hard reset the magician.
Just got my new white Trinity w/ GPS & Tom Tom. When I try to install it, I get a low memory error and install aborts. I have 41Mb storage and 21Mb program mem free.
Anyone else have trouble? Can it be installed to card?
It can be installed to the card, yes, but I never had that problem, altough I have installed TomTom many times.
I got a lot of problems but not this one !
Is this the HTC version that is downloaded on their web site ?
CD that was in the box. They have a cab file to dnload?
Tomtom refused to install on SD
I had the same problem - and the option "install into default installation folder" was checked and grayed out, so I could not tell Tomtom to install onto SD.
I backuped my Trinity, cleared the internal storage, connected to Activesync as "Guest", installed Tomtom to the internal storage, then moved the folder \Program Files\Navigator to a folder \Program Files\Navigator I created on my SD card.
After that, I restored my device. All I had to do after that was to manually add a shortcut to the Tomtom application in my Start Menu folder.
This worked for me.
Cheers Stefan
(I installed Tomtom from CAB available on the European HTC web site: http://www.europe.htc.com/support/software/htcp3600.html)
No cab file there. It is a exe that loads via Activesync. I get the same low mem error as with the CD. I have 62 Mb free. This is rediculous.
Gave up. The installer creates a temp cab in
program files/activesync/HTC apps
If you can't find it, search the C drive for *.cab and sort by date.
Copy that file while the installer is still open. Run it from the storage card. Worked fine.
Hi Guys' - I can't seem to find anything about this (maybe too bleeding edge ) but I don't want to commit my miniSD slot to just running TTN6.
Does anyone have any hacks or proceedures for getting it to run off the microdrive instead. I have the full package - DVD + miniSD.
I tried copying the entire 1GB miniSD to a folder on a 2GB one and trying to manually install from there. It does install but upon running claims it can't see any maps...grrr.

go Tiger!!!
you need to put the maps in the root folder of the sdcard/microdrive
pocket mech
pocket mechanic can move programs from one drive to another, cleaning up the registry, links etc.
but can it move programs from sdcard to another sdcard with only one sd-slot?
well you could still move it to the microdrive first and then change the cards.
