Discussion about Cupcake on the G1!! - G1 General

Well, the Cupcake release looks great as it adds loads of new features and bug fixes!
I was just wondering how one would install it on the G1? And when we would we be able to do so?

Hi, thanks for your reply in my thread btw I have read that it will be OTA (over the air i think)? So should be wireless and automatic, but then again I only found that out by one website 10 minutes ago

where did you find out info on the cupcake upgrade, cuz I never heard of it yet and would like to know more.

Googling it isnt so hard is it?
This one is nice..

You can either
1. (For those running RC30 stock) you will be notified that an update is available and a reboot is required. Just hit reboot and you will phone will install the update and come back up on its own.
2. (for those with root or RC30 stock) download the update package from Google, rename it to update.zip and put it on your sdcard. Turn off your phone and turn it back on again holding power + home. You will eventually see a picture of a phone with a exclamation point. open the keyboard and hit alt+L and then alt+s. The update will be applied and then you will be prompted to hit home+back to restart.

Cupcake's on-screen keyboard shown on T-Mobile G1!!
here is a link showing the on screen keyboard that will be released with the g1 cupcake update

Before everyone gets excited read this:
Of course, we're at the mercy of T-Mobile and HTC for getting this onto retail G1s, so it really makes a strong case for picking up a Dev Phone 1, doesn't it?

It is not official or the G1 retail RC30.
If you are gonna get upset reading and watching those videos, take those feelings elsewhere, please.

Any idea on a release date for cupcake on stock rc30?

most likely early Jan

Discussion about Cupcake....G1 involved
And here I thought it was a given.
http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/30/cupcake-confirmed-for-t-mobile-g1/
Wow. If T-Mobile are going to refuse to give us Android updates later, even though the G1 will be capable of handling all of them for a long time to come (maybe because they want us to upgrade to a new phone), then I've lost all hope for the Android platform altogether.
Who knows what T-Mobile could do out of greed? When the G2 comes out, perhaps they will force us to get that in order to get the latest Android updates... But if HTC isn't even 100% sure that the G1 will get Cupcake unofficially, then I'm suspecting something sour on T-Mobile's end.
Say the G1 post RC30 never gets a proper jailbreak exploit. G1 users may all be stuck on some outdated update.

well, you have to understand that T-Mobile and Google need to work to ensure that the everyday customer will benefit from this update. Yes the new functionality is great but if there are security problems with it, it wont be logical to deploy to thousands upon thousands of customers. Look at the bigger picture. If you want complete control over your device and want to use cupcake everyday, the DevPhone is your option. only 10% of g1 users are devs.

There's the Dev Phone argument again. There's two problems with the dev phone:
1. G1 Early adopters (I'm in this camp)
2. No cheaper option with a contract
HTC is implying they aren't 100% sure if Cupcake will ever come to the G1. This, I think, is pretty dangerous thinking.

Well basically Google developes the updates then gives them to Tmobile. Then Tmobile decides if it meets their standards then they release it. Its not official till Tmobile says they are going to push it out. I doubt Tmobile wouldn't release it but they never officially release Winmo 6.1 but you can still get it.

You can only do that if you have a "jailbroken" phone (pardon the vocabulary). And that's just not possible with the official RC30 now.

yes i understand that is the devphone argument, i too am an early adopter, but i am also one that jailbroke (i hate that term) rooted my phone.
of course there is no cheaper option with a contract - discounts on handsets for contracts is called subsidy - which means that the carrier discounts the phone in exchange for a contract. there are no discounts without contracts.
if you read the article that you wrote about it clearly states that HTC is out of the loop, they build the hardware, then the carrier bids for it, then google writes android for that targeted device and t-mobile adds its software to it and it is BRANDED to T-Mobile (which falls in line with the subsidy)
HTC does not control when/why/how or the what of updates so clearly HTC can only speculate that the update will be available. they do not have any hand in delivering updates to T-Mobile G1s.

G1 Cupcake update released?
I was just on the line with customer support for T-Mobile (g1 keeps freezing) and the woman asked me what firmware i had.I told her I had RC30, and then she said "Ok because I know we just released the Cupcake update, and i received a lot of calls from Arizona yesterday about it." She said she was notified that it started rolling out as well.
Obviously take it with a grain of salt from a CS rep, but the fact that she knew about Cupcake gives a little hope.......right?

Sounds promising (I don't think she'd mention it if they'd put it on themselves). I know CS reps are kinda unreliable, I got my G1 today, and had an indian guy who kept asking his friend in the background what to say =/ Also wanted to charge me £250 for "Default" options i never asked... I specifically chose a price plan I knew I could afford as it's my first contract (actually my girlfriend pays for it, but its her first contract too, since we live together, our money is shared) I hardly ever go abroad so i'd never use the International calling, Voice + Data roaming which were apparently activated by defualt. Imagine having your credit rating destroyed at 18!!
I hope the G1 version of cupcake comes with a small onscreen keyboard like WM phones, i hate having to flip the phone out do do a one word reply or something... And possibly autorotate, atleast on pictures!

lol CS reps rely on rumors and **** too...
well I'm speaking of in store reps actually. I went to pre-order my G1 (thought I had to do it in store) and I asked if he had a place to sign up for one, and he said nah, its not coming out for a month, we are getting that....and the Android phone...and I'm like wtf? whats the android? he's like I'll show you...and he shows me an image of the Touch HD. lol.
I knew he was wrong from the get, but i wanted to see where he was going with this.

japan fast wtf!

OTA 2.1 update for Verizon?

So I'm reading on Android sites that 2.1 will come to Droid and Eris on Dec. 11th. I know Sprint doesn't have OTA updating for things larger than 10MB sorted out yet so are we screwed? I am really going to be pissed if the Eris gets Sense with 2.1 while Hero's get left with 1.5. Does anyone know if there would be an updater like RUU_Hero_C_Sprint_1.29.651.1_signed_release.exe so that Hero users can install without waiting for some OTA fix? The people at Sprint seem less than competent when it comes to Android stuff so I have no faith. For example, my wife's Hero came with the wrong firmware (version 1.22.651.1 instead of 1.29.651.1) and she couldn't get the OTA bug fix. The Sprint solution was to take it back to Best Buy and do an exchange because, and I quote, "there is no way to update that phone." Well I came home and ran the RUU and it worked perfectly. So much for their tech support.

Well, if it comes down to it I am sure we could get an Eris 2.1 dump and port it over to the Hero but I am sure once released we will get our hands on Hero 2.1. Also, if the Dec 11th date is correct then that is great news. I don't see why HTC wouldnt release Hero 2.1 and Eris 2.1 in tandem. Speculation I hate you. lol
These updates and dumps are NOT coming to us for some reason. I don't there is one person that is going to port a full ROM to the CDMA verision of the Hero. We're just smelly Americans that don't deserve it apparently.

I think that HTC will release it for the Eris and not the Hero because they won't have Sprint's permission to release it. When I was having the firmware issue I described in the OP I talked to HTC first and they admitted they could fix it but since Sprint won't give them the go ahead for any updates they are bound not to release anything. I asked about future updates and he said it would be only with the carriers permission. I know it sounds pessimistic but I can see HTC rolling out the update for Verizon because their OTA is working. Sprint, on the other hand, would be forced to have customers download the update and manually install or have them come in to the service centers. I'm sure they think their customers are too inept for the former and considering the level of competence in their service centers I don't see the latter happening either. If by some miracle they have OTA working I will gladly eat my words but from what I have heard they aren't even close to having a fix.
I don't see why Sprint would make a big issue with the OTA bug or whatever it is. There is no reason why they wouldn't post an update for people to download. That's how it's been done for years with WinMo. And I don't think the average Hero user would even know there is an update. Mostly it would be people like us. And if the average user knows about it, well, it's probably cause one of us told them about it

Ok. First off, Sprint will release an update. It may be more delayed than others but we will get it. That said there are two options. Either A) We get a dump of the HTC official rom before Sprint releases it or B) someone posts an Eris 2.1 rom which we can then mold.

We are not getting any roms made for us because we are 1.5. 1.5 was easy to make roms for on GSM because it had GSM built into it officially from Google. CDMA however was not native until 1.6. Once the 2.1 firmware is released we should be able to more easily port over other roms including Cyanogen and all the others. Also, if there was another 1.5 firmware from HTC we could port it. For instance, the Eris dump we can port. It wouldnt make sense to because its the same as the Hero so we never did. Porting over Moto or LG or Samsung is more difficult because of driver issues.
Look, simply put, we could argue back and forth about this forever but when it comes down to it CDMA Hero will be as good as any other phone out there when the update is released and one way or another we will have the update shortly after HTC releases it.

jeez children... stop your bickering
10mb has to be some fictional number, I've gotten PLENTY of OTA updates in excess of 10mb, specifically one for the pre which was 80 something MB
And before you say something about wifi, I started and finished the d/l at work with no wifi coverage what-so-ever.
This restriction is just a rumor... and a lame one at that. Someone is misinformed, even if a sprint rep is saying that, I would love to talk to him and find out exactly where they THINK the restriction is at.

Knowing that my hopes are always crushed, I can only assume Sprint will drag their feet for the next 2 months getting it to us. We will probably have to rely on those really nice Droid and Eris owners to dump us a Rom that one of the smart devs (this eliminates me) here can do something with.
My opinion, make it yours.
dont you need root to be able to dump a system rom? i dont think the droid or the eris are rooted yet, so how would we get a dump? just asking.
Well everyone. Look over on the Android development thread and you will see 2 Hero 2.1 roms. Not fully working but if you wanna test go for it. Once its done downloading I am testing this stuff. Just remember it is GSM so we will have to change stuff to make it work with ours.

True but this is a good sign as obviously the Hero 2.1 dump has been unwatermarked. I am trying to see if there is a way I can get ahold of the dump because I believe it might be a CDMA dump. If not, then we will just have to wait.

Wait if Android 1.6 and 2.0 both have CDMA support built in then all we're missing our the specific drivers for the Hero which should be available in the 2.0 leak to GSM phones right?
Also, I don't understand how we are at a disadvantage because CDMA wasn't built into 1.5. The drivers for individual phones aren't built into Android so why wouldn't that sink us just as much as the no-CDMA thing?

Sprint has spoken :P (twitter)

Slight clarification on Android OS updates for the HTC Hero & Samsung Moment. Will be updating straight to Android 2.1, not 2.0, in 1H2010.

So we have as much as 6 months to wait, but at least they've spoken!
And if google releases android 2.3+ within the next 6 months.....HTC & Sprint will just delay again and go with the newer OS...This is sooo un-cool.

I was about to say that. It's almost like they are delaying on purpose. Not to worry...anything that is in the newer Androids these guys here at XDA can put in the Hero.
i guess we will have to wait for Sprint to have another delay before they say EXACTLY what we want to hear for our Androids..
XDA RULEZZ!!
Don't worry guys, once Verizon releases the Eris update, we can pretty much pick that apart and put it on our devices.
You think Verizon will get the 2.1 update out before sprint does? I mean there's a first for everything and all but I remember almost every Win Mo phone that has shared the two, software updates where much more likely to see sprint first. I haven't heard Verizon say when there's is coming out either and they seem to be slower or more thorough in testing.
If sprint doesn't get off there butt and release 2.x soon, then they will be loosing a customer. I for one am tired of their lazy asses being last to do upgrades. you know im sure that they could release the source with the module sources, and the more than qualified Devs here could have us a 2.x rom within days. Who cares about Rosie. I mean really. GET WITH IT SPRINT!!!!!
Sprint is waiting for all the devs on here to get the Hero on 2.1 then they will take all these dev. hard work and put it into their install and say that it' ready. I think the people on here are moving faster than Sprint can ever hope to.
At this rate, we're gonna see 2.1 looong before Sprint does.

I have been with sprint for a long time and dont get me wrong they are really slow when it comes to releasing updates, but at the same time I noticed with my blackberry that when they do finally release updates that unlike some of these other carriers that just push the stuff out to try to be the most up to date. sprint doesnt have nearly the same amount of problems with their release. yes they are slow, yes if you are on this forum then you want to be cool and be farther ahead than the general public, and that there is nothing wrong with that but, dont get mad at sprint because they want to be a little cautious and and make sure that stuff works right when they send it to their customers.

And if they were updating to 2.0 and not to 2.1, then a LOT of people would be upset that they did not update to the latest available OS. Give them a break, at least its an official word that they are in fact updating to the most current OS. I do understand they take forever, but hey, for such a cheap monthly charge I am more than happy to wait and maximize the experience with 1.5 and then get a feeling for new phone when the update comes out. (OF Course... 2.1 its gonna be around XDA WAY before, but kudos to sprint for coming out officially and giving us the official word).
Im spreading a rumor.Flipz is a secret undercover agent for Sprint. he develops all these hot fixes and tools and laughs at you wanting more.
So glad that we can Root and forget about waiting on sprint to hand a OTA update.
I honestly dont care about 2.0. As others have said, there is only one phone running the OS so not that big of deal. What i dont understand is why not the upgrade to 1.6? It came out right about the same time as the hero if memory serves me right. And based on what i have read, it really just 1.5 with some fixes, not all the added features like 2.0. Now im sure the bright minds at sprint could have had sense working on 1.6 in a matter of days if its just some fixes, but i cant know for sure. Most android phones run 1.6, apps are being created for 1.6 and higher, yet we have to wait for 2.1? Doesnt seem like a good way to keep or gain customers.
wow i posted that then logged off and its already on the second page

does this mean that Tmobile is indeed working on getting 2.0 out for mytouch3g and possibly g1 (sincei ts similar HW)?
no
The one thing we can say for sure about tmobile's android strategy is that they prefer to stay at least 1 or 2 large steps behind their competition. So until they show more than the slightest interest in Android, which could happen should the rumors prove true, im not holding by breath. It took them nearly a year to produce their 2nd Android phone (mt3g), and it had 0 performance improvements on the first Android phone (g1). This simply isnt a carrier that, at this point, has done anything to show any confidence in the google operating system after their initial attempt with the g1. Im hoping to baby jesus that their confidence and outlook for Android changes, but tmobile is the cheapest carrier, and they have poor coverage, so i would expect them to believe their customers arent interested in high-end devices. On the other hand i bought out my last contract just to get a g1, so hopefully their are enough of the same type of customers to get tmobile interested in keeping such customers...
mytouch is not getting 2.0, it's getting 2.5 and it is going to be released in january and it has flash player
the next release after 2.0 is 2.1, 2.5 is not coming out for a WHILE. I dont know where you heard about this but this is impossible.
Impossible is such an overused word. Improbable is more like it. this has already been discussed in a couple threads in the dream forums. that's why I said what I did about it. Someone was saying the release date for it is january 18. go check it out yourself.
Actually believe it or not I to have seen the talk for T-Mobile releasing the 2.5 update. I don't remember where, I will track down my source. But ya it wont be for the MT3G thou. I am pretty sure any way. I will look tonight for it. I think I was reading up for the Cliq and read after the decision on the Nexus One and a few other phone deals are made it will be decided on when the update will be allowed. Once again I will search for where I saw this. I am sorry for being empty handed right now. Please try and remember how fast all the other updates came thou. So 2.5 really isn't as far as we all think. The updates are only minor fixes that the Google staff and other affiliates get to work on everyday they punch in. So I would not be surprised if there isn't a 3.0 already being worked on.
I too have read in a few places the mt3g was getting 2.5. All I want is the better 2.0 onscreen keyboard and flash support.

Verizon & Motorola Strike Exclusie Gingerbread Deal?!

As reported by androidandme.com, It seems as though an agreement has been made for Verizon and Motorola to have the first phone to ship* with Gingerbread (2.5).
http://androidandme.com/2010/09/news/motorola-and-verizon-score-gingerbread-exclusive/
As stated above, the wording seems to be first shipped* with GB, not necessarily first device to receive the update. With Verizon having the largest ad campaign for Android phones, coupled with the farthest deviation from the stock OS, it does a lot to harm (dis-unify) the Brand Identity of Android.
Read it, and not only is everything in that article speculation; It doesn't say a damn thing about Verizon/Motorola getting a Gingerbread deal (with any real proof). In fact, nothing in that article has any proof.
I hate this read.
So far the nexus has gotten everything first. Lets hope we get a taste of gingerbread as well.
The N1 will be among the first to get it, does it really matter that much which phone ships with it first?
There is so much misinformation that article, out reads like the onion.
Pfft, whats the big deal.. someone will be first, why not motorola.
Besides, since we're here at xda, u'll get the gingerbread before those phones hit the market anyway.
And I'm sure that google won't let exclusivity for android phones. Not that it's even possible with an open-source system.
IF any other crappy phone takes Gingerbread BEFORE my Nexus...
I´ll put it on Ebay and pick an Iphone4:
At least I´ll have the security that my phone will be up to date on time and that at least it will deliver what promises: antenna malfunction included.
Sounds like more mis-information The Nexus 1 will hopefully get it 1st
the nexus is googles official dev phone. which means gingerbread is most likely being developed using a nexus so i doubt any other phones will recieve it first unless google has another dev phone by then
There´s only one positive answer to the thread´s question:
-Motorola Strike= Nexus Two

if google holds onto the source until a phone ships with gingerbread then not only would that phone have it before the n1 (1) but that would also give android exclusivitiy (2) which in the long run may actually really help both android and google (and of course motorola and verizon ).
Now obviously roms leak all the time and some hacked up version would land on the n1 but to me it seems that doesn't count. AOSP and OTA are what count for an update being "official"...no?
and really...who cares?
Why I think the Nexus One will see Gingerbread first?
Because Motorola loads up their devices with Bloatware. Motorola can not even release the Milestone with 2.2 until Q1 2011 to get it to work with the MotoBLur software.
Dude I don't understand why some of yall actually think the N1 won't see gingerbread first. I'm almost sure Google has stated somewhere that it is. Also the N1 is the google developer phone. Even if it's not there to buy anymore, it's still google's developer phone..... they have said that.
We got 2.2 first, months before some. Why wouldn't we get 2.5/.3.0 (whatever they decide to call it) first? We will...
Being old I long since lost the need to dickslap. Who cares who gets it first, more power to them. There is no doubt we will get it in short order regardless of whether we are actually the first. That is in contrast to many which will never recieve it without downloading it via a custom rom which the vast majority are not even aware they can do. I am glad I am where I am with phones, there is still not another piece of hardware out there I percieve as being worth a spend. I suspect as it continues to age another developer phone will be annointed and I'll be there. Its good to keep in mind that google said they were getting out of the business model, not out of developing a phone period or having a part in the development of a new handset.
ok, so here is how android works. Google makes/upgrades Android, this is a very basic version (stock OS). This version is only able to work with the dev phones. It is then up to the responsobility of the maufacturere (moto, htc, etc) to get it to work with their phone. So the instant that gingerbread is completed it only works for the Nexus One, it then takes weeks/months for other manufactures to get it working on their specific phones. So too fool yourself into thinking that the nexus one wont get the Os update first is just false. The dev phones will ALWAYS get the updates first, assmuming the hardware can handle it.
P.S. I concider the moto droid a dev phone even though it officially was not one.

Techincally when N1 got 2.2 the "developer phone" was the mytouch, so the current dev phone doesn't always get the update first.
=D

Actually the dev phone was the HTC magic, mytouch was a carrier version. Technically your right, but I'm guessing as soon as Google's baby, the nexus, was released it took over dev status even if not officially announced

didnt the deal say something about the first phone to keyword SHIP with gingerbread, I have confidence that the N1 will be the first phone to get Gingerbread

AT&T Rumor, Focus Update Monday???

Hey my friends. There is chatter that AT&T is rolling out both the Pre Update & the NoDo Update this Monday. Fact or fiction???
Fiction
I'm so disappionted with this whole situation. I hope I'm wrong but you have to look at the obvious. First update on Feb.21, no one got. Then MS said they pulled it for Samsung issues, but then they said they didn't pull it. Day later, MS says they pulled it for Samsung. Cool, no other ATT phone got the update! People asked if ATT was blocking the update, MS said no of course not. Meanwhile, MS issues a statement how 90% of phones got the update. Taking a look on the message boards, shows no one on a US carrier got an update. Since the US makes up about 60% of their phones sales, something is up. Fast forward a week, we have more denials of the update being blocked. Now yesterday, like a kid caught in the cookie jar, we hear that ATT did block it but we really get it this time. Really? Really indeed. Considering this is probably the only update we will ever get, this is disappointing.
I think both are true. When MS got reports of problems they stopped the updates. Now that Omnia 7 & Focus owners outside the US are reporting getting the update I think it's all AT&T causing the delay. I got the original update the first day it was out on Rogers.

Agreed all around. I gave up on WM years ago because of the appalling update "cycle" imposed on users by Microsoft and carriers. IF you got an update for your expensive device at all, it usually caused more problems than it solved and was so loaded down by carrier garbage that, more often than not, I'd end up either using a custom system or rolling back to the original. I bought a Focus SOLELY because Microsoft claimed this time would be different. This time updates would be timely and relevant and carriers wouldn't be able to block them simply because they want to sell you another phone and blah blah blah. Well you can sure throw the "timely" bit out the window. According to Microsoft's timetable, the first real feature update will be released Q3 of 2011. That means the carriers will get it Q3 of 2011, not you and I, and that's so far away that it really means that Microsoft has no idea when it'll be ready. It also means that my Focus will be at least a year old by the time the first feature update arrives. I would bet a paycheck that it won't be eligable for the update, too. Why?
Because Microsoft and the carriers have done this before, several times, and it looks like they have every intention of doing it again.
I bought the Focus the day they went on sale. It had a sim card in it for two weeks before I couldn't take it's overwhelming lack of features and stuck it in another phone. I haven't even turned it on in almost a month. Given the constant backpedalling and outright bull**** being put out by Microsoft lately, I think monday is when I finally cut my losses, throw the thing in the trash and be done with it. Enough is enough. I will never again buy a Microsoft mobile device.

Thanks, I needed that, it made me smile and I haven't smiled much through this entire fiasco. Am I frustrated, sure. I have a battery icon that flashes and beeps every second and won't allow the screen to shut down. ATT tells me it will be fixed in the update. So I wait and probably have more reason than most to want the update. But, if ATT held this up because of the problems experienced by their Focus owners, then Thank you ATT.

Damn that sucks dude. You have a legit reason to complain. Hope you get this update soon and get that **** sorted out. One of the downsides we'll experience jumping on a new platform from the beginning.

I have developed and launched Customer Service for bleeding edge products and services for almost 40 years. I know what to expect and do my homework. I like this phone and OS and will put up with a lot of things to get where it could go. But, in my mind, MS needs to step it up a bit and more importantly, take the influence of the carriers out of the update process and deal with us directly as customers.

I think that is easier said than done. AT&T has the cards and the leverage over the OEM and OS. Unless you're Steve Jobs/Apple. Then you've got the leverage over AT&T.
Honestly, I would gladly pay $500 for an unbranded Samsung Focus so I won't be at AT&T's mercy. Unfortunately, AT&T probably forced Samsung to give them a year-long exclusitivity agreement for the U.S.
You wouldn't believe the BS requirements that AT&T has for some of these phones...
Me, personally, I'm in no dire need for the update so I'm not at all concerned about when it gets released as much as I am knowing that there will be one. It would certainly tick me off if AT&T blocks future updates and would definitely encourage me to go back to unbranded phones.
Michael.

dude that sounds like a serious issue, why didnt you just ask ATT for a replacement instead of hoping for an update to fix it?
PS. 3/7/2011 12.55PM EST and still no update for my Focus

I did my troubleshooting thing with Samsung, then went to the warranty support group at ATT where they confirmed it was a known MS issue, they were addressing it in the next update, many Focus owners have it. I agreed to wait, see if the update fixes it, if not, return it under warranty.
BTW, there is a video on YouTube of someone with exactly the same symptoms, but his Focus ended up with a melted mini uSB cable connector and a melted mini USB port. The images are startling and the symptoms leading up to the meltdown were exactly like mine.

Fiction. Microsoft is making a "big" announcment on 3-15. I don't see it being released before then.

Like you Mike, I've given up. If it comes out great, but I'm not expecting it any more.
What will be funny is when this update finally does get released, no sooner than 10 years down the road(sarcasm), and it doesn't even meet the requirements of what most people are expecting.

LOL, so true so true, maybe I am just lucky, my phone actually works, I only 24gig of ram and not the 40 I want but hey, its a start. My only real complaint is not being able to connect to hidden networks and PCAny has not release a app for it yet.
On the update side, if it gets real bad, we can go old school, go back to flashing devices. I don't care what OS you have, there will be issues and slow and in some cases no turn around for fixes.
There are plenty of issues with the Samsung Focus and WP7 in general, ranging from charing the battery, the battery icon flashing after removing the MicroUSB cable, audio problems with the headset and Bluetooth, SSSLLLLOOOOWWWW performance after exiting an app, etc. just to name a few.
I am trying to keep an open mind about this whole update process. While MS hasn't come out saying that carriers have or have not blocked any update, there are plenty of controdictions being made from MS sources. Some have said that the NoDo update has been done since Dec, yet WP7 needed a "minor update to make sure future updates go more smoothly" and that 90% of phones have recieved the update. Well, I have 3 Samsung Focus phones, none of which has recieved any update thus far. THere are plenty who have said that no one on AT&T has recieved the update, yet Rogers, Orange, etc. users have recieved the update. Carriers are blocking the update in some fashion, and this is what I was affraid of when MS announced this policy. Hell, doesn't anyone remember when Microsoft said that any carrier included software must be NON-Trial, Free, must be run without Internet connectivity, yet none of that is true with AT&T phones???
I want this platform to succeed, yet the first two updates thus far have recieved SSOO much attention, and under such a microscope that MS cannot move at the speed they want to without losing customers. Yeah, you can make all of the comments about how Apple and Google went through the same things, MS needed to learn from their mistakes and how to not make them. It seems that MS is no History Major.

My focus runs as smooth as the day I picked it up. This update drama is entertaining though.

None of those problems for me and my Focus either, with the exception of the bluetooth connection in my car being lousy. All in all, I love the Focus. Following the update drama, but not letting it get to me.
