Hi, Ijust got my X1 on 12/18/08, and two days later im havong trouble with it. The optical joystick started to mess up, it keeps on scrolling upwards on its own and it wont stop unless i turn it off on the settings, has anyone else have this problem?
I have the similar problem. I thought it was a issue with the TF3D as at first when i used to press teh X button and reselect the pannel the issue used to be resolved. But today itself i noticed it did not even work with the X. had to do a soft reset.
Very sad. Hope this is not a hardware issue.

I'd rather say send it back... it might be useless to you, but I find it very handy for navigating through menus, but mostly playing nethack.
(plus you're either paying a lot of cash for this phone, either through a contract or upfront, I wouldn't put up with ANY hardware faults on a device that cost this much)

Hmm, I kinda like the optical pad.
It makes 'clicking' (noisy) the d-pad unnecessary and it is a lot faster too. Also, when you use the NetFront Browser, the optical pad is a real joy, scrolling through websites goes soooooo smooth.

Yeah im going to send it back, payed too much just to try and put up with hardware faults
I have the same problem since this morning .... I have the X1 since two weeks ........ Any chance that is it due to a cooked rom or a bad driver? Can't we recalibrate it ?

I have an oddity... when using the slideout keyboard, I have to press hard, past the clicky feeling, to get some characters to show up. Is this a bum unit? Anyone have any suggestions?
sheesh, for this kind of money, you'd think there'd be some quality control.
Thanks in advance

Sounds like it may be one of the dodge models... What's your model number? (under the battery, in HERM6xx format)...

This is one of the known problems of early TyTNs (I think up to at least serial numbers 630F... devices). Mine had the same problem - however, after a few days of use it almost disappeared.
It's definitely not something that can be fixed by a software update. You may want to give your device a few more days, and if that doesn't help, send it back for an exchange.
Cheers
Daniel
I found that as you used the keyboard more, the more responsive it became. If I used letters infrequently they can need a firmer push. Over the last month the keyboard has become better and better
My first Vario II had a couple of keys ('a' and 'e') which had this problem. I found it a little annoying because I am quite light on the keyboard so I was missing letters out all the time in texts.
I have since had the phone replaced because it developed the alignment problem and my replacement Vario II keyboard is perfect, it does not require any extra effort at all on any key.
It seems some are more sensitive than others.
Generally it does seem like the buttons require more force than the ones on a HTC Wizard. I think it's something you just get used to after you use the device for a while. I'm still going back and forth between my two devices so am constantly reminded of the differences between the two.
I just picked up another 8525 after returning the first one to checkout the Blackjack. I wanted to make sure I at least tried it before my 30 day return policy kicked in. I noticed on my second 8525 the keyboard does not lock into PDA mode as secure as my first one. It seems that the top part of the phone locks better then the bottom. So when I hold it has a phone I tend to slide the keyboard open a little. Has anyone had these issues? It just seems to easy on the second one to unlock/open the keyboard.

I'm afraid this is a fairly common problem. The metal runners/sliders have small indents at each end (cannot see these unless device is dismantled) that create the click into place when the sliding blocks attached to the base part slide over them.
These indents are often too shallow to create a nice firm click and in extreme cases the actual runner has sprung apart where small micro welds have broken.
There are fixes for this but only for those that don't care about their warranty and want to dis-assemble the device. I have done this fix and it now requires a very firm two thumbed push to open. However I do not recommend you do this when there is the possibility of exchange/return or repair.
Mike
If you decide to do it on your own I can vouch for Mike's method. He emailed me the process and I posted it on the WIKI.

Sounds like its possbile then. Where in the Wiki can I find the how-to? I looked and could not find it. Thanks again for the information.
It is under the hardware overview at the bottom. andMike i added some props to you for the method!

Yes Worked perfectly!!!
I have not done it yet, but plan to soon. To clarify what your fix does is that it tightens the sliding keyboard rails? or provide a better click when its closed?
Just read your site. I think that answered my question. Thanks, I will try and post my success (...or failure).
Great fix. One of the little but annoying things about the device fixed.
sliding keyboard then freezes
hello, I got my device ! I'm very happy but when I slide the keyboard, and here the left 'click' then it freezes.
It is very strange, is there anything I can do ?
Thanks in advance for any suggestion

I don't think the "clicking" mechanism is what's making your device freeze. I believe its the display going from portrait to landscape mode what's probably making it freeze up. Have you hard reset to make sure there is no 3rd party today plugins that are having issues with switching to landscape mode?
sliding keyboard, frozen device
dear brmcguire, thank you for your answer. I think I have to be more precise.
When I slide the keyboard and stop before the "click", it is ok, it moves to the landscape mode without problem. Then, when I push untill it locks, on the right lock it is ok but when pushed untill the left lock, then it freeezes. To be precise, "freeze" means that the menu bar opens, and the tactil screen does not answer anymore to the pen, (I can still use the buttons).
That is why I believe it is a hardware malfunction, but I'm still a newby
Does anybody had a similar problem ?
Any help appreciated

I think we're all agreed it has to be hardware. There is no software that operates when the "left" edge clicks into place. There are two circuits that operate softwarewise when the keyboard opens
1. There is a small magnet operated switch that changes portrait to landscape and that's working fine,
2. The light sensor above the "p" key top right which operates the keyboard backlight.
I don't think either of these is responsible.
At a guess either the Multi connector Mylar Cable for the screen/digitizer connection is getting trapped/pulled/stretched and partially breaking its connection or the click into place is creating an internal squeeze against possibly the "windows" button hardkey next to the Green Phone Key.
I think like brmcguire that I'd get it back to shop while still in warranty perhaps after doing all the usual things like a hard reset - just in case we're all wrong and it is software.
Or you just never quite open it far enough to click into place. I do this a lot, partly because I've got a really firm click into place on both right and left sides that if I'm just quickly using keyboard I find I can get every key without the final clicks.
Mike

Hey i don't know what happened to my Wizard but suddenly after installing two Alarm Clock softwares i just started losing my Screen Alignment. To fix it i even tried re flashing my Wizard but this time the problem started early and without installing those programs. Did anyone of you have the same problem?? If you do have a patch do post it in reply. Cause after using the ROM I'm using now all the other ROMs seem to be too Slow.
NOTE: Information about my Wizard is updated and in my signature.
Thanks in Advance.
HI,
Have you ckecked the connection between the screen and the print? Maybe it has a bed contact?
If you still have warranty, the you better send your phone back to let it repair
good luck

Hey im sure that there are no problem with the HARDWARE cause if there were problems with the hardware then it should not even work after i align screen and secondly if you know any ROM faster than mine (mentioned in my sign) cause when i switch to nayother ROM they seem to be too slow.

Well there's your problem right there. Anyone that sure of anything can't be right about it.
Seriously though. This sounds like an intermittent fault, and that is the domain of hardware failures. This kind of thing happens when hardware ages. Especially around things with moving parts. That slide-out keyboard wreaks havoc on the ribbon over time, and eventually, they just give out. You may have one that's merely loose, or it may be getting ready to break, or it may already be broken and just touching often enough to make you think it's okay.
The chances of this being firmware or driver-related are really slim. If that was the case, the error would be constant, not intermittent.

Sorry! but i dont guess i said that anywhere by reflashing i meant reflashing the same ROM. If the problem still presists then it might be a HARDWARE fault but for now its working pretty fine.
Forgot one thing, if this is an HARDWARE issue then is it fixable?? if yes how?
hey man i had this annoying issue whenever i remove the battery..but it should be OK when u do alignment a couple of time repeatedly...try it and post the results here..
I have had alignment problems for a long time. Clearly mine is hardware related, since stock and custom ROMs both show the same problem. Sometimes I'll go for months with no problem, and then I'll have to start realigning several times a day. Thank god for smartskey, otherwise I could rarely close a program. I was told that it was probably a hardware problem and that it would've been covered under warranty (if I was still under warranty), but I never sent it off. Somebody else told me once that It was probably due to there being pressure put on the edges of the screen from the frame around the screen, and if I disassembled it, made sure the seal/padding wasn't touching the touch-sensitive part and then reassembled it, I should be fine. But I looked up the process in the service manual, and WOW it looked like a lot of work with a lot of places where I could screw up the phone, so I just live with it. Sometimes sliding it open and closed would totally mess it up. It seems to help if I just squeeze the edges of the screen to really "seat" it, and then align. Then it seems to stay pretty well aligned for a good while. Good luck!
I cooked up a ROM and installed it and it works now i dont have the problem. Please try my ROM and give me feedback link to it exists in my signature. Thanks. TC

The device screen doesn't react on pressings after running for some time, mostly running some more demanding application, in my case as seen in the video clip, a 3d game. The center-left part of the screen just won't answer to my touches, to get it more clear I've made a clip.
P.S.
The phone was bought in Romania (Eastern Europe), had been in service one time, seems all they've done is to resoft the phone.
Are you having a leather case or something that wraps over the side and front of the Leo? I can't see clearly but it seems so.

I did that (even in my video if you watch it); Updated to the latest firmware available on htc, same stuff.
P.S.
this issue appears mostly when I press the reject (power) button, so it's smth. with lower right corner...
I don't see why there's a discussion or even a post about this. The phone is obviously faulty. You say yourself that it's not a software issue so you need to take it up with your supplier. If they've already had it once and sent it back in the same state then you need to tell them that, not us!
They got to replace it. It's unusable in that state and no amount of software or tweaking will make the screen suddenly work for you.
i think the easies way is to send it for repair,
if i were you, i would do my best to identify the problem cause and be able to reproduce it whenever i want so i can go there to HTC and prove it.

Thank you for your reply, too bad the servicemen don't share this opinion, and the thing is more complicated due to the fact that I live in other country and have to ask some ppl to get the device delivered, and due to the random nature of the problem, it is really complicated;
the meaning of this thread was to identify, maybe someone has met such things, and knows what exactly causes the fault, so I don't receive the device the second time with "resoft" written on the service ticket...

that's exactly what I'm trying here - to identify the problem and get some proof, I can't go there by myself, we don't have an official HTC service - the nearest one is in Romania
Any fix for this ugly bug ?
Before HTC HD2 i had iPhone 3G, and it had no such bug.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRrKEDP59XE
This bug works on all apps, the biggest problem is when you type text on virtual keyboard, all buttons around are triggered.
Get a life man.
Obviously it has a sensitive touch screen. It is not a bug. You can decrease the sensitivity using BSBtweeks amongst others. But if you touch and twitch your finger on the screen that's what you get.
And if you don't like it go back to you iPhone.

it is not bug it is due to over senstivity and it is common in capastive screens even my iphone do it but not so much as its screen is smaller
just don't use the tip of your fingure

you obviously have a defective unit. I tested mine exactly the same way and doesn't have this shaking screen at all. (even at the maximum zoom level at opera.) try to get a replacement.
i was having problems with the sensitive touch screen, not as bad as most, but very annoying. the main one being when trying to press the back key on the keyboard it would randomly hit a letter instead bout 1 outa 5 times. most other things where quite good.
Phone was still quite new so i returned it to virgin for a replacement and this new one works perfectly. Also, my old one had the visible matrix at angles where as this one does not. Also, the sticker on the packet says rev.B. Not sure if its relevant.
Anyway, to some it up, if you are having screen problems that are souring your phone experience and like me you can get a hassle free same day exchange, i'd go for it, cos the difference is really quite large. Previously id adopted to using skype as the normal qwerty was too innacurate for fast input. but now i can type quickly and accurately in portraite mode on the normal keyboard. Pinch to zoom seems to be working much better now aswell.
I have BSBtweeks and low sensitivty in that movie. On/OFF no big deal same effect.
I guess you guys don't have iPhone 3G and don't know how to real TouchScreen should work.
Why are you keeping your finger on the screen for so long?
Why not ?
For example, you scroll web down, and up in one move to see it all etc..
or u use Virtual mouse like notebook touchpad to control your pc cursor over wifi. etc.
I do it on iPhone without this bug.
get the same probleme and bsb don't change anything

i had the same problem, get your phone replaced under warranty !
i sent mine out under warranty repair and foud that they did nothing to fix it so i rang them (o2) and told them the problem is still apparent.
they sent me recondtioned model. cant tell the difference (physical) between reconditioned and a new one if you ask me!
i dont have the shakes with this phone
