Please help me!!!!
this morning my XDA2 has decided that the speaker and microphone sholld be switched off permenently! :x
I believe that it thinks the headset is plugged in - but it isnt!!! (i dont use bluetooth)
I hev tried a soft reset and a hard reset (and also plugging and unplugging the headset)
Please help me - I only like to use the headset when listening to my tunes.
PS i spoke to the O2 data support helpdesk at 60p / min and it took them about 5 minutes to suggest that a soft / hard reset might cure it, otherwise they are clueless.
Is there any way to manually chage the profile from headset to normal handheld????
thanks!
PS my device i nearly 1 yr old - is this the kind of thing that I can expect to occurr more frequently as my XDA2 goes into old age?
i had this problem with my XDA 1. I had no idea what was going on but remembered it working last time i had the headphones in. A soft reset didn't fix it for me either. what DID fix it was ramming the headphone jack in and out really fast. After a few attempts it came back to normal I guess have to 'undo' the problem the headphone caused when it was in there.
  hehehehe
It works!!!!

Speaker and microphone silent because of headphone
Hello,
Glad you got everything working again..
Just a quick note - I was in a motorcylce accident recently and had my PPC in my pocket, - it was damaged at the the area of the headphone jack, which came loose, and caused exactly the problem you described.
To fix it I had to open the PPC up (instructions are available elsewhere in this forum) and then resolder the headphone socket to the PPC - Now it works fine again.
The upshot of this is that I think the microphone and speaker turining off when the headphone is plugged in is hard wired in - and also the headphone jack is quite delicate - it is only held on to the PC board by the solder connection of about 6 legs, and has 2 very small plastic locating pins, so go carefully with the jamming the headphones in and out.
Also when mine came loose - the back left of the 6 legs broke off - and without that connected back it still never produced sound through the speaker or mic., so it would be possible to permanently wire that in to make sound go both ways.
Mine is mute too did you do anything or did it just fix itself?
It eventually fixed after a couple of hard resets - first one didnt work, but after using the headset for a bit, i got the stuff from O2 to send it back for a repair. when u reset it again the problem was fixed. I reckon threatening it with surgery scared it into submission!
I had the same Prob at every Time who i hit my XDAII, or if it fall down.
After that i must push & hit it again,- sometimes 15-20 Times(!) and after that it works normal. It´s an "cold" point on the board,- the O2 Hotline knows this...

Same problem from yesterday! ..it is the jack ..if I move it down with the stylus ..the audio returns to the speaker..uff..
I don' wanna open it and solder.. too lazy..lol
Dead speaker
I have the exact same fault as described
only after losing about 3 calls did i realise it was the xda2 not some nutter that wouldn't speak!
fixed it with putting the headphone jack in then out etc..... 15 times!
it would seem like this is a design fault! as it is coming up to year for the xda2 should we organise o2 to recall the xda2's and repair this fault!
So I have this problem - only thing is Im in the USA at the mo and didnt bring my headset - is there any other fix as Im kinda stuck ?
Nigel
Husband had same problem.
Changing ring tone fixed it. Don't know why. Don't know how, but it fixed it!

I have the same problem, after calling with a headset, now my sound has gone ( Out of complete my XDA II ). Changing the ringtone didn't work for me...I am going to try to test the plug/headset way!
After 12 times my sound came back...so it worked for me!!!
It's the headphone Jack!
The problem is with the headphone jack!
I have had the same problem for months, sometimes it would stay without sound, always when I dropped it. Usually it returned after 1 or two days, but the last time I dropped it it seemed to be final... I've had no sound for more than a week - I'm using it as a PDA...
Reading the posts above, I decided to insert the pen in the headphone socket (as I don't have the headphones here with me), move it around carefully, and it wroked! Right now, it feels like magic, but that's it - I will probably have to get it fixed permanently, but for now it will do!
well i always have that problem in my phones... because i always hook them in my car stereo by the headset output.. and constant using of the output somehow makes the insides of it dirty.. believe me its dust.. a tooth pick would be very effective as it takes the dirt away.. blowing in sometimes work...
mine is also soundless
i was able to get some dust out of it....
but it won't work....
i don't have the nerves to ramm the headphones in....but isn't there another safer way to fix it....
plz let me know, (hard resettet 5 times.... won't work..)
btw, i tried to put some new updates on it....
but i can't find any, (i searched, but couldn't find anything...)
device information:
Rom Version: 4.01.12 ENG
Rom date: 12/22/03
Radio Version: 4.21.00
Protocol version: 32S54
It's a little bit out of date...that's why i need new ones (i think)
h0t_sh0t
bringing it to the accredited local shop would be the safest way.. maybe there's more dust in there.. you can also rewire it again.. like opening the PPC and soldering back some pins.. (if some pins broke off ..)
Same thing happened to my jam too.
Problem is; there's a little switch in your headphone socket, when you plug your headset it turns off the external sound, and when u unplug it should normally turn on the external sound. But if the switch is locked, it does not recognize that u unplug your headphone.
My solution is, plug-unplug your headset's plug (or something thinner is better) several times in different angles carefully to your socket try to touch the switch while your're playing something. Till u hear the external sound.
Mine is ok now.
(Sorry about my bad English)
I had the same problem. I sprayed a little WD-40 on the tip of my headphones... pushed it in and out for a couple of times and viola!
first question...
what's wd-40??
second question...
when i put my earphones in, i can hear everything...but I can't speak...
but when I unplug my earphones, and I scream in my xda... I can hear a little bit what i'm saying when i plug my earphones back in.
but it's very crappy sound, and when I slam (not to hard of course) my xda with the mic onto my desk (while recording) and i listen to it again, i can hear the drums....(the slamming) but I can't talk in it while using my headset...
has anybody had this before...?
third thing...
My uncle bought the XDA in Singapore about 2 years ago (when it just came out) so when i'd like to bring it back.... i'd have to fligh all the way to Singapore. (does anybody know a good shop/store who sells/repairs XDA phones...??? or is there anybody who can do this....?
thnx for all the help

Yesterday evening , suddenly , the loudspeaker was completely off, without having used the earphone.....
Soft reset ; after the speaker restart working , but I noticed that the volume was not exactly as in the past.
This morning , again , speaker completely off !!
This time my first impression has been " another time I have a problem with the earphone female jack and its critical contact " ; so I opened my device another time ....but I was wrong !!
In this case the problem was the louspeaker ; its impedence is extremely high ( many Mohms ) so it is broken , I checked also in the connection points on the body of the speaker , same "open" circuit ; I have my old JAM , damaged in its lcd screen , so I tried to recover its loudspeaker and try to install it into my JAMin.
two problems :
a)the lenght of the little two wires cable is 4 time longer, but I found the place to put it , under the loudspeaker
b) the impedence of the "recovered" JAM loudspeaker is about 10-11 ohms ;
Unfortunatly I do not know wich was the impedence of the original JAMin loudspeaker but I suppose it was more than the indicated value , infact I'm forced to reduce the volume to 80 % to avoid distorsion and probably overcharge of the amplifier.
My questions:
1) anybody knows the impedence of the original JAMin loudspeaker ?
2) where could I bought a spare one ?
Thanks for any help
1) Don't know
2) Don't know
What I do know is that if you put a bit of sponge under the cross bar of the chassis that goes over the speaker it will start working again. Did for me anyway.
i damaged my speaker with an equilizer, the vendor changed me the whole device for free. hope this will help u
Hi all
It would be great if you shed some light on the problem
Xda exec had a fall!..since then no sounds at all, phone won't ring or won't play music...but has sound if i plugged the headphones in
Any theories/ideas what might have gone wrong...& possible solutions..
any help would be appreciated...thanxs
sound failed on xda exec
i also had the same issue but my handset was replaced as it was within 28 days of getting the handset
i never did manage to find the exact issue
when your handset fell did it have external sound / handsfree plugged in at the time
about the only thing that made any sense with mine was the possibilty of the micro switch / contacts of the externl audio jack being damaged
dont know if any of this info helps you at all but best of luck getting it sorted
Still no explanation for the no sound problem Xda Exec
Does anybody find out allready what's the problem with no sound on the Xda Exec.
I not speak about the problem with the external audio jack.
I can make cals like normal, I only can not play music or listen if somenone is calling me.
Thanks
its hardware problem with universals audiojack .. just open device ..remove board . plug headphones ... and see on connector /.... in most cases no sound issue cames from third pin of jack (thst pin detect plugged headpnones .. if it disconnected device plays in headphones if connected device plays on builtin speakers) if near end of it ...
a may advice you more deeply but i didnot have proper photo to explan in his basis..
just give me HI RES PHOTO OF BOTH SIDES OF YOUR MOTHERBOARD.. i explain what to do

You are shure that this willbe the problem, because I can make calls without the headphone. I was thinking that in the case that the connector gives the problem, I should also not be able to make any calls without using the headphone.
Anyway I was going to open my friend one day, to look what's up.
problem may be repaired in home in 10mins

Ok, here we go.
We have hands, tools ( a hammer ) and 1 needle.
I think I forgot something, but...
I think the problem, when the problem is hardware,
is that when you put the headphone jack, the top of the jack he opens the microswitch what you see at first.
Ofcourse when this switch he stays also open when you take out the jack, than you have a problem.
And yes with a needle you can first open the contakt and than you can dress littlebit the position of the contakt.
I have only 1 problem on my tel, this switch is closed as well, when I take out the jack. The problem is not this switch.
here we go
Correct, I am shure that this is almost always the problem.
In fact the switch is closed in normal position, and he goes open when you put the headphones.
When he not close as well automatic than, you have a problem.
But in my case it is really not this switch, so I am still looking for the reason why I not have sound.
hi all
i have same probelem like you
my friend using my device for weeks and when she give it back to me i have no sound from my device & even from headset i call the i-mate center the girl told me maybe your jack is dameged but when i sent it to suport center they told me your flex cable is dameged by wrong rotating your device and we haven't that yet ....
they sent it back to me and after some day my screen shows nothing then i buoght a cable from ebay an change , now i have voice sound screen
&....
like before
i hope these usefull for you
This was exactly my issue, under that pinkbox you marked is the tiny tab that makes or breaks contact with the internal speaker. Because my headphones break the contact, this tab after much use was stuck in the open position even after the headphones were removed. When I did the procedure you mentioned magically, sound..wow. I am extremely greatful for your troubleshooting skill.
Thanks a million mo3ulla.
If only i had this fix 2 phones ago..hahhahah.

Hi lambrechts,
Did you manage to find out the reason?
i have the same problem, my device fell, but i didn't notice the problem until next day (i didn't use it) so i'm not sure if it is because of the drop.
I will open my device and check the Jack pins, but i want to know if you got any fix for this.

hey mo3ulla, did your method work after repeated use of the headphone port? did it get stuck again any time after you fixed it?
just asking cause i have this problem on my 9000 and haven't opened it yet so i don't want to open and close it repeatedly
thankss
I have this problem aswell. But I inserted a fork and twisted it around a little and now it works as it should again.
Bumping this thread. Should be a sticky or in the wiki.
Anyways,
I tried the pin trick back when I posted here, it worked but it wasn't permanent. Instead I put a crumpled piece of post-it note above the pink dot in the picture and it worked, up until recently. Does anybody have a method to bend the connecter back down? I'm probably not using the needle right, I press the pink spot, but it pops back up.
Ideas?
twisting the pin really helps. thanks for the solution. I tried to insert my headphone again and the pin always stucked. I'm trying to find a permanent solution for this. Maybe put something to push the pin to be connected everytime I remove the headphone...
I hope this helps. I found it very useful to my Dopod 900. I tried to connect my headphones (sounds works on my headphone) then I disconnect it and sounds works on my stereo/speakers.
*Please do it carefully in pushing the pin upward from inside the hole. Just push it a little bit just enough to touch the upper pin..
additional tip: after you fixed your device, try to install SRS Wow for great audio experience
Quick Fix
I found that if you apply a little pressure between the base and just above the send key this seems to work, I tried this tonight and will report back if goes again.

could be a damaged PCB motherboard, or lose connetion for the sound chip!
you could try fixnig it, or replacing the motherboard.
a new motherboard could be bought off E-Bay US for a cheapish price =]

Hey guys remember those old days(and new days too..), most of us had a Nokia handset( i never had used one from multimedia days, i hate Nokia multimedia sets, and i am a fan of Sony Ericsson, but of course i love Nokia's monochrome handsets, coz they come handy as a backup set!) Before theses android phones came to us.. so of course we do have a headset ( some even have in ear too like wh205 or so) which we do put a side coz its no longer being useful to the owners of HTC or Samsung users..( don't know if it works for other android devices).
Here starts my story.. i have been in search of a headset with mic for my hd2, i lost my HTC and Samsung headsets coz its cables brick in such a manner that i cant fix it any more( already had fixed it lot of times.. oh lol my crazy sleep with headsets on make it broke all the time..). So i need a good pair of headsets( i already had a lot of music only headsets from Sony, jbl,etc..) with mic,my needs are- it should have a good quality cable, good 3.5mm jack, good mic,and of course descent music quality. After long search i fall into Nokia headsets . Its almost good for enough and satisfies my needs..
So first time in my life i bought a Nokia accessory ,a wh205 headset ( cost me 350 Inr from Nokia showroom , almost 7 USD), well i checked it in my friends Nokias.. its good.( almost.., Worth the cost of course. Believe me, far better than default HTC or Samsung headsets ).
But there exists a problem, this is not compatible with HTC OR SAMSUNG( fck lol!!!!) So only after an hour of purchase( 6months warranty is still there) i dismantled it, opened the mic container, and find out the pin points of the jack and identified the wires of L+,R+,L-,R-,M+,M- using my multimeter and rewired( resoldered) them according to this wiring diagram

.
Re fitted everything carefully ( thanks to Nokia, they use only locks and not glue to join parts, hence i can refit every thing perfectly) as how its made! Not even a scratch!( used a small needle and sharp cutter blade with extreme care to open it... lol i need the warranty in any case he he...) . And checked in my hd2 with music, calls, music controls( single button control), every thing is fine, and the music is perfect, a lil low treble , medium bass but decent warm mids( when compared to my dedicated music only headsets.. but its perfect heaven for a lazy listener. And is better than HTC or Samsung's in ears that comes with phones ( lol don't compare with beats or other premium packs..). It took me only 5 min to do all, its worth a lot.
So if u are not an audiophile ( or i don't think audiophile premiums come with mic, do they??) U must go for this mod, its worth it.
Fact:- wh205 is the basic in ear from Nokia, and i would say it beats other headsets around 10-20 usd in its neighborhood.
I haven't changed any component from the circuit ,just rewired it, that does the trick..i will upload some pics of wiring if any one needs it
http://db.tt/f564yI0y
The above pic is the original one.
Wiring to pin end:-
Right- red wire
Right ground - red blue wire
Left ground - blue wire
Left - green wire
Mic + - white wire
Mic - - copper wire
Wiring to speaker end:-
Left + - green wire
Right + - red wire
Left - - copper wire
Right - - blue wire.
http://db.tt/7PSS1itp
And this is the modified one
Wiring to pin end:-
Right - red wire
Left - green wire
Mic + - copper wire( previously it was mic- wire)
Left ground - no connection( just dont connect the blue wire to any thing)
Right ground & mic - - short circuit the right ground( marked as GR on pcb) and the mic - ( marked as M- on pcb) and connect to the white wire( previously it was mic+ wire).
Lastly you will get a spare wire , the blue red wire ( previously it was right ground wire ) , it will be connected to nothing. ie. There will be two wires in total ( blue and red blue) which does not connect to any points.
Wiring to speaker end:-
Left + - green
Right + - red
Left - & Right - - short circuit both points and connect it to copper & blue wires ( previously both served as grounds to respective channels)
Nb :- I will give u a small audio tip, the headphone speakers can work in either polarities , ie , if u swapped there respective positive and negatives , it will be ok. But if u have swapped any one channel's negative and positive while keeping the other channel's in its original position , it can result in lowering the volume( Google for reason , i m too lazy to type the fact behind it from my xda app ) which is noticeable. So take care of polarity.
Thanks

There is one difference - on similar samsung HFs are not present "prev" and "next" and they are marked as "vol +" and "vol -" - do you think same as I that they are wired same?
I am going to build this for my Galaxy Note II. Hate BT HFs cause of their battery consumption and not simple maintenace at all.
Just need to buy 4pin jack cause all components already have (electronic and HW geek ).
BTW.: Do you know if there were any reductors with these buttons and that has a 3,5 mm jack for custom headphones?

The best way, buy a cheep imitator headset of what ever u want ( go for samsung if u have note 2) replace the speakers and board( if u have any) with original. Becoz it cost less and can save ur dear headset speakers ( after all its what we need most)
And the second one, this nokia model i used ( 205) does not have 3 buttons, only one for attending call/ play- pause . So it will not skip songs normal way , but of course u can skip to next by double click the single button in google play music app ( others may also work). Or u can assign controls to it using apps like jays headset control or philips music control app. All that can be controlled using click patterns .
Next thing, u can have it done with 3 button headsets from nokia, moto, sammy, htc, sony or any thing.. unless u can figure out what is the control config for ur phone model. In my case the single button nokia cost me 350 INR. And if i go for 3 button nokia( n8 pair) it will cost me 1300 INR. But i dont hear much diff in sound from both. Also i have may other good headsets for music, so i need a general purpose hf this time, so i went for this one.

U just take out the rubber sleeves from both end by pulling it aside. Then there are small locks on both sides, use needle or sharp object to bend it a lil bit. And u r done

You can have play/pause, next and previous controls. There are apps on market which can control volume too with these keys. Jays headset control or Philips music controls apps are example. Use the wiring diagram to rewire it. Also pls not that after this mod it will no longer work with nokia symbian models( dont know if its ok with windows phones).

MS put every thing with loopholes, and that is intentionally, so now worries.

hi. first sorry for my bad english, I am from Austria^^
i got a few days ago a new X Compact (build 34.2.A.2.69), but is it normal that the top speaker is much louder than the bottom?
if i listen a youtube video etc. the sound from bottom speaker is very low und muffled.
in german forum i read that the speakers must be play ~1 hour and than the calibrate themselves, but it didnt helped.
i tried every audio setting, and factory reset, but always the same
here i made a little video from it with a speaker test that i found:
(please insert the "p" in the link, because i need 10 posts for url links)
htt://eventview.eu/video/show_640482
BUT if i go to accessibility and activate the "mono audio" both speakers have the same loudness at this speaker test (but the songs are nevertheless on top much louder again)
i tried it with diagnostics, safe mode, and service test (*#*#7378423#*#*)
but always the same (bottom speaker is much quieter)
i think that could not be original so
do you think its a hardware issue and should i send it to sony to repair?
thanks in advance
Hi sorry for my english . Poland here
I have exacly the same issue. My phone is one month old and bottom speaker doesnt soundt as laud as top one. I heard thet this is normal , but my previous x compact almost stoped playing music via bottom speaker also there was problem with my microphone so i returned the phone and recived brand new (month ago) . Sony support told me that bottom speaker sound level is fine and its tottaly norma that bottom one is not as laud as top one. Imo x compact is a fine phone and overall works great ! camera could be better and curved screen is annoying love it anyway ! So the new phone still got diferent volume level for both speakers but now its less hearable, and as i said before sony says its normal.
I think you should send your phone to sony becouse it sounds realy quiet (my old one was like yours) . Sony support is pretty good and you should get new phone within few days ( i got mine in 4 days ) . peace
Regards
hello and thanks
where did you send the phone? to Sony? and get the new one from them?
i wrote a mail to sonymobile.com/at/ (Xperia Care), but they said i should send it to: mobiletouch.at (service partner)
and one question to all: can i get problems with the warranty when i was in the service menu to test the speakers? (*#*#7378423#*#*)
because i wrote that in the mail to sony + mobiletouch, but now i read that some manufacturer's void the warranty if you go into the "hidden" service menu
Yeah my phone also top speaker is louder than bottom so I guess this is normal
however I had a HTC desire 820 before that both speaker were equal and much louder than this phone...

I gave IT back to MediaMarkt (shop where i bought IT)
Service menu shouldnt be an issue becouse Sony support advised me to check it first via service menu then factory reset etc. Obviesly nothing worked so i went to MM and 4 days later BANG! new phone
Seems it's so by design :
https://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/rxs-dontbelive-stereomod-xperia-xz-t3569123
-Cut 150hz Frequencies only for bottom speaker (Avoid Crackling)
-removed 150hz limitation for top speaker (more bass)
hmm, now i am even more uncertain
can please someone else go in the service menu and test the right and left speaker?
is there much volume difference, or are both same loud at your X Compact?
thanks again!
My Xperia X Compact has the same issue, but it's not that noticeable. Acutally, I don't mind it at all.
is there a change with the 7.1.1 update at the speakers volume?
(can't test it, because i sent my X Compact to repair)
No change here
It seems the upper speaker has much bigger magnet.
I work with metal and I have to clean metal dust from upper speaker with magnet daily, but lower speaker never gets dusty.
When you hold magnet over upper speaker it really attracts and magnet stays in place.
Lower speaker doesn't even hold the magnet.
If someone with root could pass me mixerpaths.xml file I could try to mod it to enhance the volumes.
