Loudspeaker problem on my JAMin - JAMin, XDA Neo, S200 General

Yesterday evening , suddenly , the loudspeaker was completely off, without having used the earphone.....
Soft reset ; after the speaker restart working , but I noticed that the volume was not exactly as in the past.
This morning , again , speaker completely off !!
This time my first impression has been " another time I have a problem with the earphone female jack and its critical contact " ; so I opened my device another time ....but I was wrong !!
In this case the problem was the louspeaker ; its impedence is extremely high ( many Mohms ) so it is broken , I checked also in the connection points on the body of the speaker , same "open" circuit ; I have my old JAM , damaged in its lcd screen , so I tried to recover its loudspeaker and try to install it into my JAMin.
two problems :
a)the lenght of the little two wires cable is 4 time longer, but I found the place to put it , under the loudspeaker
b) the impedence of the "recovered" JAM loudspeaker is about 10-11 ohms ;
Unfortunatly I do not know wich was the impedence of the original JAMin loudspeaker but I suppose it was more than the indicated value , infact I'm forced to reduce the volume to 80 % to avoid distorsion and probably overcharge of the amplifier.
My questions:
1) anybody knows the impedence of the original JAMin loudspeaker ?
2) where could I bought a spare one ?
Thanks for any help

1) Don't know
2) Don't know
What I do know is that if you put a bit of sponge under the cross bar of the chassis that goes over the speaker it will start working again. Did for me anyway.

i damaged my speaker with an equilizer, the vendor changed me the whole device for free. hope this will help u

Help! No sound without headset

Please help me!!!!
this morning my XDA2 has decided that the speaker and microphone sholld be switched off permenently! :x
I believe that it thinks the headset is plugged in - but it isnt!!! (i dont use bluetooth)
I hev tried a soft reset and a hard reset (and also plugging and unplugging the headset)
Please help me - I only like to use the headset when listening to my tunes.
PS i spoke to the O2 data support helpdesk at 60p / min and it took them about 5 minutes to suggest that a soft / hard reset might cure it, otherwise they are clueless.
Is there any way to manually chage the profile from headset to normal handheld????
thanks!
PS my device i nearly 1 yr old - is this the kind of thing that I can expect to occurr more frequently as my XDA2 goes into old age?
i had this problem with my XDA 1. I had no idea what was going on but remembered it working last time i had the headphones in. A soft reset didn't fix it for me either. what DID fix it was ramming the headphone jack in and out really fast. After a few attempts it came back to normal I guess have to 'undo' the problem the headphone caused when it was in there.
  hehehehe
It works!!!!

cheers dude!
Speaker and microphone silent because of headphone
Hello,
Glad you got everything working again..
Just a quick note - I was in a motorcylce accident recently and had my PPC in my pocket, - it was damaged at the the area of the headphone jack, which came loose, and caused exactly the problem you described.
To fix it I had to open the PPC up (instructions are available elsewhere in this forum) and then resolder the headphone socket to the PPC - Now it works fine again.
The upshot of this is that I think the microphone and speaker turining off when the headphone is plugged in is hard wired in - and also the headphone jack is quite delicate - it is only held on to the PC board by the solder connection of about 6 legs, and has 2 very small plastic locating pins, so go carefully with the jamming the headphones in and out.
Also when mine came loose - the back left of the 6 legs broke off - and without that connected back it still never produced sound through the speaker or mic., so it would be possible to permanently wire that in to make sound go both ways.
Mine is mute too did you do anything or did it just fix itself?
It eventually fixed after a couple of hard resets - first one didnt work, but after using the headset for a bit, i got the stuff from O2 to send it back for a repair. when u reset it again the problem was fixed. I reckon threatening it with surgery scared it into submission!
I had the same Prob at every Time who i hit my XDAII, or if it fall down.
After that i must push & hit it again,- sometimes 15-20 Times(!) and after that it works normal. It´s an "cold" point on the board,- the O2 Hotline knows this...

Same problem from yesterday! ..it is the jack ..if I move it down with the stylus ..the audio returns to the speaker..uff..
I don' wanna open it and solder.. too lazy..lol
Dead speaker
I have the exact same fault as described
only after losing about 3 calls did i realise it was the xda2 not some nutter that wouldn't speak!
fixed it with putting the headphone jack in then out etc..... 15 times!
it would seem like this is a design fault! as it is coming up to year for the xda2 should we organise o2 to recall the xda2's and repair this fault!
So I have this problem - only thing is Im in the USA at the mo and didnt bring my headset - is there any other fix as Im kinda stuck ?
Nigel
Husband had same problem.
Changing ring tone fixed it. Don't know why. Don't know how, but it fixed it!

I have the same problem, after calling with a headset, now my sound has gone ( Out of complete my XDA II ). Changing the ringtone didn't work for me...I am going to try to test the plug/headset way!
After 12 times my sound came back...so it worked for me!!!
It's the headphone Jack!
The problem is with the headphone jack!
I have had the same problem for months, sometimes it would stay without sound, always when I dropped it. Usually it returned after 1 or two days, but the last time I dropped it it seemed to be final... I've had no sound for more than a week - I'm using it as a PDA...
Reading the posts above, I decided to insert the pen in the headphone socket (as I don't have the headphones here with me), move it around carefully, and it wroked! Right now, it feels like magic, but that's it - I will probably have to get it fixed permanently, but for now it will do!
well i always have that problem in my phones... because i always hook them in my car stereo by the headset output.. and constant using of the output somehow makes the insides of it dirty.. believe me its dust.. a tooth pick would be very effective as it takes the dirt away.. blowing in sometimes work...
mine is also soundless
i was able to get some dust out of it....
but it won't work....
i don't have the nerves to ramm the headphones in....but isn't there another safer way to fix it....
plz let me know, (hard resettet 5 times.... won't work..)
btw, i tried to put some new updates on it....
but i can't find any, (i searched, but couldn't find anything...)
device information:
Rom Version: 4.01.12 ENG
Rom date: 12/22/03
Radio Version: 4.21.00
Protocol version: 32S54
It's a little bit out of date...that's why i need new ones (i think)
h0t_sh0t
bringing it to the accredited local shop would be the safest way.. maybe there's more dust in there.. you can also rewire it again.. like opening the PPC and soldering back some pins.. (if some pins broke off ..)
Same thing happened to my jam too.
Problem is; there's a little switch in your headphone socket, when you plug your headset it turns off the external sound, and when u unplug it should normally turn on the external sound. But if the switch is locked, it does not recognize that u unplug your headphone.
My solution is, plug-unplug your headset's plug (or something thinner is better) several times in different angles carefully to your socket try to touch the switch while your're playing something. Till u hear the external sound.
Mine is ok now.
(Sorry about my bad English)
I had the same problem. I sprayed a little WD-40 on the tip of my headphones... pushed it in and out for a couple of times and viola!
first question...
what's wd-40??
second question...
when i put my earphones in, i can hear everything...but I can't speak...
but when I unplug my earphones, and I scream in my xda... I can hear a little bit what i'm saying when i plug my earphones back in.
but it's very crappy sound, and when I slam (not to hard of course) my xda with the mic onto my desk (while recording) and i listen to it again, i can hear the drums....(the slamming) but I can't talk in it while using my headset...
has anybody had this before...?
third thing...
My uncle bought the XDA in Singapore about 2 years ago (when it just came out) so when i'd like to bring it back.... i'd have to fligh all the way to Singapore. (does anybody know a good shop/store who sells/repairs XDA phones...??? or is there anybody who can do this....?
thnx for all the help

HELP!!! JAM NOT OUTPUTING ANY SOUND THROUGH EAR PIECE

i dont know why, but my jam has lost all its sounds after seraching on the forum i m convinced it is a problem with the ear piece but what is confunsing me that when i make a call i can hear the sound clearly but still there is no sound of ring tones or even the mp3 i play...............please tell me i have an alternative to disabssambling it
same problem
I believe i had the same issue.. and what i did wat do a hard reset and it solved the problem...
Perhaps you should try..
Possible causes of sound failure from main speaker are:
1. A2DP patch - there are threads discussing solutions to this problem.
2. Constant plugging/unplugging headset - does sound come out of the headset?
3. A hard bump to the unit causing a loose contact to the speaker terminals.
If the 1st two are not the culprits, then your next option is to hard reset and if that doesn't solve the problem then your last resort is to dismantle and clean the speaker contacts.
thank you guys for your help, i have hard reset the device..............but problem still there i think i will have to disassemble
any ways thank you for your help.............u guys are angels
No sound
I Had no sound from speaker took the top section off which unclips to show the speaker and when i gentley pressed the speaker sound came out of it...Have to get a new speaker. put a tiny piece of foam from an earplug between the case and the speaker for now.It works but not quite as loud as normal.......but it is a fix if yures is the same problem........
it is a hardwar issue not a software
you have to open the phone and check the earpeice first and after that you have to check the thing under the earpeice because it has a connector attached to the board . therefore you have to check the legs of the connector
that is all

can someone confirm, new speaker for dopod 818pro

OK so as my previous post goes, my dopod 818pro's rear speaker went dead again. the 2nd time, and I've only been using it for 5-6 months now.
I just got back from the service center. and I was bumed when they say, that replacements speakers are out of stock and I had to wait for more or less a month before I can get it fixed. the person I met there didn't deny that there's been lots of problems with the speakers, he does said that the next batch of speakers will be a different one, and supposedly a better build speaker. and the first batch coming in to indo.
Can anyone outside of indo confirm that dopod is putting a new and better speaker.
don't take me wrong, I love my dopod. stable, and has good battery live. except short wi-fi range that I could live with.
And another thing, I use letter recognizer a lot. and it seems that the part of the LCD where I use to type a lot become less and less sensitive overtime. Anyone else having the same problem? or am I the only one?
my speaker went dead too..a few days ago...not that I use it much...only inconvenience for me right now is that I need to keep it in vibrate mode all the time..
.....uhm..
I Had problems with the earphone connector ( 2,5 mm stereo jack) ; in practise after a long use of the external earset , the internal loudspeaker was completely out of work....
I opened my prophet and I discovered thast the loudspeaker was ok but the problem was in a the very little contact inside the connector ; it was not able to close a serial contact . it is a critical point , in my opinion , and only after having opened the 2,5 female connector (!!) I was able to restart correctly the sound ; now everytime a connect the 2,5 male jack I'ma afraid....
My speaker went dead as well. I was suspecting the headphone jack because I had just used it.
However, I opened the phone, and also the black headphone jack socket casing. You are right, it is very vulnerable. But in my case it was working perfectly.
In fact when I closed the phone I realised that the phone was not remaining in headset mode after all...the front speaker (the one to hear conversations) works according to if the headset is plugged in or not.
Conclusion: there must be something wrong with the rear speaker itself. Any ideas where to source a new one?

No sound from loudspeaker, maybe hardware problem

Hello guys! My loudspeaker suddenly stopped working few weeks ago. I know the cause, and I am pretty sure it is hardware related.
Here is the story:
I installed this ROM (don't think it's important). It worked fine for about a month. The sound volume was lower than MoKee or MIUI, so I started searching for some solution.
I followed a guide similar to this to boost volume, and it worked!
Although I read in the post to not set the value over 95 (to avoid damaging speakers), I decided anyway to set it to 100, because I didn't think that could happen. Sound was very loud, and I was very happy.
Next morning, alarm screamed very strong, but suddenly stopped ringing. I realized my mistake, loudspeaker is completely mute since then.
Earpiece, headphones, microphones work, everything works except loudspeaker.
I hoped so much that was software. I formatted and installed some other ROMs (MoKee, MIUI, CM12) but still no sound. Then I restored a previous MoKee backup (taken when sound worked) but no success. Unfortunately it's a hardware thing.
I bought a new loudspeaker, learnt from YouTube how to open the Note, and replaced it. Still no sound.
Then I tested both loudspeakers (the original and the one I bought) and they both emit sound when attached to an external source (jack plugged to mp3 player). So the problem is not in the loudspeaker itself!
My knowledge ends here.
How can sound stop working by simply raising a software value? But above all, how can the loudspeaker work correctly, but not when placed into the phone? Is there another component that can be damaged in abovementioned way? If so, can that component be replaced?
I hope somebody could share some knowledge to help me solve the problem, or at least point to the right direction. Thanks in advance.
Open your Phone and look if something "looks" broken and make a picture for analysing. It can be not anything but more that just one piece that's broken.

I opened it many times today, but discovered nothing wrong or weird, although I'm not an expert so maybe I simply haven't noticed.
Will post picture as soon as I manage to take photo without phone
Yeah, its like taking a selfie with your phone on your phone without mirrors, only Chuck Norris can do that
(sry for bad English, I'm from Germany)
Some photos
I resurrected my old phone and took some photos. As I said, there's apparently nothing weird, nothing that appears burned or cut.
Here three photos (full phone, upper part, lower part) the loudspeaker contacts are highlighted.
I don't expect a hint on how to fix that (although I hope so much ) because I know this forum is meant for developers/modders/those working with software. My real question is:
Why after just altering value in mixer_paths.xml my phone is now mute? Can someone describe how the sound goes from the CPU to the loudspeaker? Is there something I can do?

I did the exact same thing. I replaced the loudspeaker just like you. My sound still doesn't work. I have done a complete factory reset and tried new roms and nothing works.

Hi Guys
I have exactly the same problem with my Xiaomi Mi3. After display replacement lound speaker stopped working. While I had broken display (just the touch screen, dispay was fine) loudspeaker worked fine (I cannot switch off alarm, even shut down the phone)
I bought new speaker, but sound still doesn't work. Do you think that it is comming from CPU? It is possible but I don't think so, because everything works fine via earphones or bluetooth speaker.
Did you find any solution?

I tried many other ways, none of them worked. I ended up buying a small BT speaker and carrying always with me.
In my case I learned in the worst way that excessive software amplification can burn audio chip. I replaced EVERY replaceable part (speaker, USB/speaker lower board, main ribbon cable, maybe others I don't remember) with no success.
@tripper22 I think you have no options. If you did my same steps, sadly your sound is lost. I have not yet replaced my phone only because there was a recent increase in development, and many custom ROMs to flash, but I will probably change that phone sooner or later.
@nokovica My sound from earphones or bluetooth is working too. I remembre reading that the audio amplifier is in a separate chip.
Anyway, your problem looks like a HARDWARE issue, since you didn't played with system configuiration. This is easier to fix (if it's fixable, of course).
If you did the replacement, you could check twice if some ribbon cable went damaged. You could try turning on your phone while open (remove back panel and expose board and cables) and see if works this way. You could check with a multimeter wether some signal (albeit small) come to the buzzer. In my case I discovered that a little signal (2-5 mV peak) reached the buzzer, but wasn't enough to make a sound. Rechecking after some months revealed that even that little signal is now gone (maybe sound chip damaged further).
If someone else did the replacement (hopefully Xiaomi assistance) it's their fault, and you can usually ask for repair for free.
Mi3 Loud Speaker Problem
@nokovica
Even I am facing the same problem with my Mi3 . After screen replacement ( touch + digitizer ) My loud speaker is not working , however phone speakar and mic is working perfectly fine , even the headphones too. I also detected one of the problem with Network Signals , if last for only few seconds and then it goes off , i tried placing many sims, but no luck . Can any one in the forum provide some solution to the Network Signals ?
even I have the same problem with my redmi note 3. I just opened back case, sub-board loudspeaker and re-assembled it. I didn't touch motherboard or any flex on upper side. Loudspeaker stopped working since then. Swapped with new part but it still doesn't work. Headphones and ear piece works fine. doesn't play music on bluetooth but hands-free works on bluetooth. how could have damaged audio chip on motherboard?? I barely touch it. didn't even unscrew it.

Loudspeaker not working after battery & mic replacement

Hi, yeasterday I replaced broken mic (incl. charging USB port) and battery on my LGG6+. After that I tried and test if everything is OK and I found that loudspeaker is not working .. I dissassembly and assembly phone after that a few times, I checked every possible reasons for this problem, I gently cleared all connectors between board and mic part (and tried to use also old mic & USB part) .. but without any success.
Maybe it's related (and I'm not really sure, that this part is from LGG6) with this problem, after first dissassembly I found this little peg with sealing ring on my table (in attachement).
The size (lengh) is appr. the same as 11 screws holding plastic cover of board. It seems like screw, but it's a little thicker and without thread. Do you have any idea if it's also part of this phone and if so, where is this peg placed inside the phone? I have absolutely no clue, where is this part from ..
http://sdilej.eu/pics/b4c96840945677a6caea33af67f39603.jpg
So, please give me any hint how to solve the problem with not working loudspeaker, I'd like to use my phone again :] .. Thanks!
