Atom Life - iPAQ rw6828, XDA Atom General

Hi All,
my atom life was working perfectly only had it for 4weeks (eBay) then notice battery was getting VERY hot this only started 2day's ago, i changed the battery same thing fone still works then lockup and will charge the battery tho lol. have tested the battery on my xda no prob.
Just wondering if any1 had any tips to try and fix this or should i look for another fone with screen fault, missed out last week $75 screen was cracked

try upgrading new rom...had similar prob with o2 neo it worked...may it also work here

phone battery normally gets hot when charging or using wifi.
If it gets very hot, then you should be worried.

Hi,
My atom life cannot read the storage card? Any advise that I can fix this? thank you for your time.

I've found that when connected to a power source, access to the memory card is flaky at best. Taking it out and reinserting it several times will eventually reveal it but it will soon disappear again. In my experience the oonly sure fire way to be able to read the card is under battery power only. However, I'd also make sure that the card in question is working with another device just to rule out the possibility of a faulty card....
Hope that helps

What capacity is your card?

Anyone with Battery drain problem?

Anyone having any battery drain issues at all? My wizard only lasts 12 hours till it dies on me. Even if it's on standby for the whole 12 hours.
This is obviously abnormal. I want to see how many of you in here have this problem, or if it's just me. I have replace a new wizard (from the same store), and this problem still persists..and i have also tried using a new battery with the same result.
I recently came across this program on this forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=45168&start=25
B_uptime which records your usage time. The you are using your phone the processing time will be incremented, when you have it on stanby the idle time will be incremented. But with my phone no matter if am using it or if it's on standby, only the processing time is incremented.
I am suspecting this is the cause for the battery drain. Can people with or without this problem try this out please? And see if the idle time increment when you put the phone on standby?
Hoping to get some feedbacks. Thank you so much!
See this big thread here with people who have similar problems. http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=45601
I personally have my battery standby set at 2 mins.
jpflaw00 posted an interesting observation in the b_uptime thread too:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=45168&start=25
Try to remove the memory card and see if the phone still refuses to "idle".
I am making a new topic, to get a survey on howmany ppl are having this problem and if they have their's fixed.
I have tried pulling out the SD card, but the idle time still won't count, and this is my 2nd wizard.....so I am pretty screwed....I just don't know why....
ppl please post your comments and fix thx
ok, I have just tried pulling the SD card out, and it KINDA works! It only works when I take the card out, and let it turn itself off after 1 minute. If I manually press the power button, and then turn it back on again, the idel time still will not increment.
Did you just let it go on standby or did you also tried pressing the power button? So I guess the problem is not fixed for me.
I am using a Kingcap 1gb Mini SD, what about you guys?
How about people with battery issues state the brand, size, etc. of memory card if used. Otherwise people should state if they have a battery problem even if they don't use a memory card. Let's narrow it down to see if the issue really is the card :!:
jpflaw00, so does the counter still work for you if you press push the power button, and then turning it back on after 1 minute?
Want to know if I am the only one having this problem.
I had the mem card out since yesterday @ 3, fullly charged, and I didn't press the power button, letting it turn itself off, after almost 24 hours, it's @ 50%, so very good....but very inconvenient......and I do want to press the power button.
OK, I confirm, my phone finally works with the SD card out.
When the SD card is in, the idel counter stops working.
So we have narrowed the problem down to being some kinda of problem with some brand of SD card, OR simply the SD Card Slot.
I am using a Kingston 1gb. Really want to try a Sandisk and see the result.
Well this will blow your mind.... i DONT have a Memory Card, and yet my Vario battery lasts 1 day tops without charge. No WiFi, no GPRS, no BT, no IrDA, no Crazy Today Plugins.
gazzrenn, you have a more serious problem than me.....did you try hard resettting it and not install anything? and what rom are you on?
OK, I CONFIRM, THE PROBLEM IS NOT THE SD CARD! It is a problem with the SD CARD SLOT! I tried putting in a blank card (The piece of plastic that came with the phone), and the counter stops working, so there must be something wrong with the sd card slot..when something is inserted it keeps the phone running...
omg..anyone having this problem?
Hey jpflaw00, any news on your Wizard?
Does your battery still drain? Have you tried putting in the Plastic thingee in the slot and see if it still drains?
Thx/
well as far as i can tell no...i haven't really noticed anything...to me it seems as if the battery is fine, but i haven't really been testing it out...i think i have better battery life now, but i'm not too sure...i recently upgraded my rom, but maybe the problem has to do with phonealarm or something that keeps transmitting info back and from the memory card...but if you are having battery problems without a memory card, then i suggest trying the new roms out to see if this fixes any issues you are having...my suggestion is the mobiz edition i am using right now...if i'm right i'm getting better battery life, but then again i could be wrong...just try it out...anyways i will charge my phone as soon as this cycle is done...then i will examine the phone battery stats, and then i'll get back to ya...good luck!

mda restarts while im on the web, then says no battery

my mda says that it has like 93% battery life and while im scrolling around on the web after 15 minutes the phone just automatically SHUTS OFF and restarts saying low battery life and then it dies again. whats the deal with that? what do i have to do to fix this? its sooo annoying. any help will be greatly appreciated!
you might be out of RAM..
close some apps that are running..
IE eats up a bunch of RAM..
Looks more like a faulty battery to me! OUT OF RAM or LOW RAM never will give out the message: LOW BATTERY.!
If you have the chance to try another battery (maybe you own a second one or a friend might have the same device) just give it a shot ...
i tried with a different battery. the phone still reboots if your on the phone or interenet for longer than 10-15 mins. whats up with this?
I have EXACTLY the same problem with my phone. This phone is onlt 1 month old and was a replacement for a previous MDA that had SD card problems...
I have the exact same problem. When I don't use WiFi the battery lasts for several days. But when I use Wi-Fi in 10-15 minutes it restarts and shows battery very low.
I have noticed that if I connect and immediately disconnect the charger, it shows that there is a lot of power left in the battery and the phone will actually last a while. It definitely can't charge it so fast, so somehow its getting confused about how much battery is left.
Can anyone help with this, please?
I just did a clean install of the official T-Mobile Rom, and the problem is still there. The phone keeps restarting.
Help please.
right there with you guys. ihave and 8125 and they same thing happens i am just glad i have a spare phone. Bad very BAd.
Guys
Junner2003 is right. The problem is a failed cell in the battery. If you don't put the wizard under any load it will last for a while however as soon as you ask it to do something (like use the internet) it dies real quick.
Get a new battery (not a second hand one that you know nothing about) and the problem will go away. I had the same problem a few months ago and went through all the same issus mentioned on this forum but a new battery solve the issue once and for all.
Thanks for the input, jt_armstrong. I'll replace the battery and report back here. I am thinking I about getting a high capacity one like this one
http://cgi.ebay.com/2400mAh-Ext-OEM...ryZ15034QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Hey everyone. jt_armstrong and Junner2003 are right. At least in my case changing the battery seems to have solved the problem.
I got the high capacity one from ebay, and so far it has been working perfectly.

Atom Life restarting on incoming calls

Weird thing: Every now and then my Atom Life reboots when I get an incoming call. It rings for around 2 seconds and reboots. Any idea what that may be? I have no other problems at all, it never restarts when anything else happens!
Crikey!
that happens to me as well. ****s me to know end... I think the battery charge may have something to do with it. ie if my atom life is fully charge i don't think it happens? it just seems to be when it gets lower... great to know i'm not the only one with this problem though.
the same problem.it happens all the time when the battery is at 40% or less.
I think you're right. I changed to another battery I have, and that seems to have fixed it. Strange thing is that the battery I have used so far has been between 70 & 80 % when it's happened, and it dies at around 40 %. Probably a faulty battery. Thanks!
you mean your phone works fine now, even on 20%?
Actually, i've read on several forum that Atom, watever model it is comes with a battery that is somewhat faulty. Changing to another battery other that the default one actually solves the problem of it shutting down @ 40%..
Bikiapo, unfortunately, no. I thought I had fixed it, but I hadn't.
Lann_78, that doesn't surprise me! These units have a few problems that are really annoying, but for me the postivies (fast CPU, good connectivity, small size) makes up for it in my book. I have a few no original batteries laying around from my previous Atom, so I'll try with those. Thanks!
im wondering what O2 says about all of this.because im sure they know.we bought our devices with money not with nuts.all over the internet they talk about this devices with the worst words.O2 MUST DO SOMETHING!!!
Well, since I changed the battery I haven't had any problems. I guess it's a subcontractor that cut corners on the battery. I guessing that they simply can't keep the voltage at the necessary 3.7 Volts when they fall below 50 %, or whatever the real percentage it is, and there's a surge in power usage, like a call coming in.
i just buy a battery 3550 mAh.till now was 1530 mAh.do you think it will fix the problem?
Probably. Those batteries are very thick, so you need another backplate. But you probably got that as well in the package, right?
yes there is one in the package.have you ever saw a battery like this one? is it much bigger than the original battery?and the weight...?
I have no idea, I have only seen it in the eBay auctions, and I know that if a battery has that much more capacity and has a new backplate, it must be bigger. Which is why I don't buy one, I like my aluminum case too much.
same problem
Hey i was under the impression that aftr i dropped my O2 Atom life a couple opf times the batery has started behaving erratically.....good to know that others are also facing the same issue...in my case the phone goes off and then i need to put it on...is it the same what everyone else goes trhough...i too feel that only when it is below 40% mark this problem happens that an incoming call rings for a few seconds and then the phone goes off...
visit the site gsmerana.com and you will see thar we are not alone.many owners of atom life with the same problems.
I've got the same problem. But it solved now.
Just change the CPU profile to best Power. It works on Me
Strange. I always had the CPU profile set like that. It didn't do any good for me. But what did help was to use another battery. I haven't had the problem since I stopped using the batteries that came with the thing.

It's true the battery that came with the package didn't fit excatly in the device, the battery size a bit smaller than the slot. So i try to put some paper so the battery could fit in.
The fit isn't the problem. The problem is that if it's below 50 % charge the voltage sinks so low that a call will make the phone restart. And even turning on the WiFi can reboot it.
hey there. new in the forum, new atom life for me..
but i had the same problem as you guys.
the thing is that atom not only restarted, the device couldnt boot at all. after several tries i had to do hard reset... twice in 3 days.. and thank god i didnt have any important data to lose at the moment, but who knows in the future? At the beggining i thought that some programm crashed but now i see there is something more serious here...
All we have to do is send our complaints to O2 about all this. if this is a manufacter problem then they have to solve it for us... dont you think?

Overheating

Hi i own a Dopod D810 and since last week my device has been overheating, my screen becomes really hot and battery life goes down EXTREMELY fast. A full battery last me 3-4 hrs max
I have tried disabling 3g, the device heated less but the battery life i still going down as fast.
any solution ?
btw i'm using official Rom WM6
You have turned GPS on ?
that procedure may lead to overheating devices.
Hi mate thanx for replying. No my GPS is off.
Actually made both soft and hard reset, turned phone on with SIM, nothing helps it just keeps getting hot and battery life goes down very fast
any soltution ???

- Your battery is going to die
- Short circuit somewhere
- Reset your phone and see if it is still.
- Clean some dust, especially near the battery terminal and around the screen.
if it is still, it's the motherboard issue (shot or one elec component died or change value)
Hi
Did you have any HSDPA connection active ?

HTC HD2 Battery drainage?

Hi
Battery problem, keeps draining quickly, just by leaving it anywhere. I charge the htc hd2, after not much use... the battery looses charge? I have s2u2 installed any ideas why this would be?
In other words, battery is on 100%. I open it using s2u2 and close it, just random play aroung with the phone. Next minute you know the battery is going lower and lower in matter of minutes. Thats with no phone calls, few text, no music, no games played i think your getting the gist?
This is wierd? anyone else experience this?
Please can some help and advice in the right direction.
thanks.

Try a search as there is a ton of stuff about how to treat the battery in order to get the most out of it.
hi pa49
I have looked at soo many post on xda, but i cannot get to to the bottom of it?
1. Is there any post you might note of, that could possibly put me in to the right direction?
2. also any place you can get extended battery (not the big fat one lol)

you may want to install battclock and check what0s your cpu usage, also disable s2u2, check differences, and whatnot... the only way you can find if it's a software problem or not is by checking with a clean rom.
Usual old boring advice, backup and hard reset, test with nothing installed, if there is the same problem of very high drainage, it's basically a good chance you need to send it back for warranty
I have exactly the same problem. Suddenly yesterday my phone's battery drained and I found my phone switched off, out of nowhere. I charged it for 3-4 hours, and then played some games, the battery was left at 85% and when I woke up today, after 6 hours, it was off again.
So you are suggesting to perform a hard reset and observe the way the battery drains?
Ok, First get the battery working at max capacity by charging it non stop for at least 2 weeks. Whenever you can and wherever you can for as long as you can.
Once you have done that there is a battery monitoring capability built into the charging circuits. You could then allow your battery to drain to cuttoff and then recharge to full again which will accurise the power remaing readout. I never bother with this step as I just use the phone and then recharge as soon as I can again, but, if it's important to you then go ahead, but, don't continually allow the cutoff point to be reached as this will damage the battery.
Now you have maximised the capacity of the battery see how it performs and assess whether you need to take further action.
Installing apps to mem card will eat battery.
Some say leaving apps open will drain the battery. I'm not too sure, but, it's good practice to close them any way.
Finding a clean and pared down cooked ROM will save a lot of power, but, you will have to do your own experimenting there.
After that you could invest in a spare/extended battery, however, I would suggest an external rechargable power pack (Have a look at the juice bar solar pack as it will recharge itself without needing a power socket or USB port (although you can use them!), purely by sunlight. Another advantage is that if you change your phone you still can use the pack with your next device and they will also charge many other devices!
Good luck!
I have my new hd2 leo, and battery seemed to be the main issue for me cause it couldn hold 1working day... but as everybody told its nessesery to charge 1 week to exercise battery for its full potential.. but i did some improvements, did the registry thing with dissablepowersavings dont remmember where found that, and instaled wmpowersaving, for control of 3g 2g data, using 2.12 radio rom, witch is more stable than 2.08 cause i use hd2 for a lot of browsing, and 2.08 was freezing my device.. 2.12 is stable and seems using much less power, i can feel less heat in the back of the case.. tried android... but that was not intterested me... i dont need those 1000ds of apps i need to browse the internet using iris browser.. and now battery easily can hold 2 days with some wifi 3g browsing.. and few phone calls some usage of camera.. witch is poor in dark conditions... so i think battery life is 2days ... and control the 2g 3g networks, turn off location service, turn off data connection.. and the battery for today evening is still 72% after 10 hrs of few phonecalls and a bit browsing with wifi.. some gps navigation i dont even think to buy expanded batery cause i dont like the BACK BIG CASE ... Also i wonder how much power is nessesary to run Micro SD built in card reader... because its a pitty to have 180mb internal memory for progams... if it had 2gb then u install everything in the memory and dont use the sd card reader witch i suppose will save couple of hours of battery.
this issue has been well documented..imo the stock rom battery life is awful lasts up to 24hour on casual use for me..there are cooked roms with better battery life or you could invest in a bigger capacity battery from htc or third party ones on ebay
There is a known issue with the HD2 and microsd cards, when the microsd's filesystem becomes corrupted, causing battery drain.

Ok, so I did a quick test, I turned off the radio just to take that out of the equation.
I ran for two hours, first hour with SD card out and then an hour with it in.
From the log, you see that I am about 6 to 7 mA up until 0945 and then it started to cycle, I dont know why, the phone was in standby the whole time.
I put the SD card back in at 1016 and opened explorer just to access it once.
the cycling continued for like 30 min then settled back down to 6 to 9mA.
So, it looks like the currnt is a few mA higher with the SD card in, but I have no idea why the phone was sucking over 150mA in those four to five reading bursts when I was not using the phone.
What do you think?
Jeff
