Installed SPB Backup and ran the option to make a self extracting .exe file to the SD card. It did a soft reset and now it does nothing.
It switches on and sits on the Sony Ericsson startup screen and thats it.
Any one know how to start in safe mode or get it back to the way it was?
sounds strange, i used spb backup million times and no prob at all.
hard reset, then try to restore your backup
First try with hard reset. If that don't work try to rom

I did it on the phone, then it does a reset and thats the last thing that it did.
I've tried fixing it with mtty.exe
I ran the following commands:
set 16 0
set 14 0
boot
It reboots but it's still the same. In boot mode I get:
KOVS110
SPL-0.72.0000
MicroP1-787
MicroP2-707
SEUS says my software is up to date.
What else can I try?
I don't understand if you already made an HARD reset (button combination + R on keyboard) or not...
anyway, your bootloader seems still ok, you can flash a rom with sd method. check the sticky

With all this talk about WM5 devices not really resetting everything after a hard reset, and my device being dead and not recovering after a hard reset makes me think, there must be an alternate way to really hard reset a device back to factory condition.
I tried a lot of combinations of presses to no end. The only thing I am suspicious about but did not play with is a red/white round sticker (which looks like it is hiding a button) under the battery (upper left corner).
Anyone know what that is, or is there a way to do a harder reset? Taking the battery out for a few days did not help either.
Because flash memory actually needs erasing rather than just resetting I doubt it is possible to clear it with a simple button press. It may be you can do a normal hard reset and hold down a button to bypass loading data from the flash then format it. But I've no idea really.

Re-flash the ROM?
uuummm some where in this forum i read that if you have wm2005 and go to boot loader mode you get an option over there to clear the cache or memory something like that, and that would give you a clean installation.....
haven't tried it though.....and i doubt i would get such an option in wm2003se, also i have a similar problem i did a complete flash reinstallation of rom to my device and after the installation i opened windows media player (wasnt the first thing i opened, but didnt copy any files)and guess what....i had a song available over there..... which i could actually play and it did....i checked the location of the file and it was somewhere in my device or documents dont quite remember i did a hard reset again and same issue....
after that i have'nt tried anything the rom is same i just deleted the folder manually but i would also like to know how to TOTALLLLLLY ERASE ALL DATA from the device and clean install everything
regards
on the XDA II and WM5 you hold down the buttons to resent stage then i gives you three options. One of these I am sure clears the phone
I hard reset my Universal several times (well I think I did at least)
Press the soft reset plus the two "-" buttons and you will have a white screen asking if you want to put back your HTC back factory default
Unfortunately that standard hard reset, doesn't do it. I am still stuck at reboot, and the radio rom version shows the attempted upgrade version (01) that started the problem in the first place.
i tried some of them according to herein, but some of them were not function.

there's a little icon called "clear storage" which brings your settings to the factory's default. what's wrong with it?
i'm stuck too in bootloader with my mda pro

This may be too late, but there's no way to do any sort of a reset to revert back to a previous ROM... the only thing you can do is reflash the earlier ROM.
Brett
ok ... now the final BIG request ... who can give us an update that works. the patched Maupgradeut_noid is not working with the latest upgrade.
thanks.
To revert back to clean copy of OS (i.e newly installed OS)
Hi,
Just to share with you my experience in reverting my phone to its original OS condition. Before that, just to give you guys some background.
1. Upgraded from PPC2003 to WM5
2. Tried install some patch to enable file transfer (OBEX) in BT
3. Suddenly, the phone screen gone missing. Phone shows No Signal. Cannot receive call.
3a. Did a OS reflash again, but still does not solve the problem.
4. **Panic for a moment **
5. Looked thro Program Files, and seems like some appln i installed were not erased despite doing a hard reset. So, i guess the hard reset doesnt erase some portion of the memory
6. Googled for a solution, but most said do hard reset
7. Went back xda-developers.com site to look for solution
8. Finally found a method. see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1164331 to do a format on the memory
Now, my phone is working fine. The phone screen is back and it shows my telco name, and can receive call
Hope this helps.
Rgds,
Choon
you're in the wrong forum mate
Hi, I updated to WM6, the 5.2.1938(Build 18538.0.7.0.PV.HAT), reset the device with Power-Reset, pushed in the Power-Record-Camera (just the Record-Camera didnt do it for some reason), set the no-yes-yes, but cant proceed. The guide suggests either the Center button at the bottom, or the Mail button, neither have any effect on my device.
What sould I do?
Or is nothing supposed to happen, and I just need to reset it again?
Thanks,
RMSe17
Reflash the Device and hard reset again. There is also another way to hard reset after the flash process. Check the wiki if forgot how exactly but it should be there or do a search on it.
You NEED to execute the No/Yes/Yes ...
if you pressed the Mail button...(that's the second button from the left on the 4button quicklaunch) the screen will go white... it will format your Storage then recopy the one from the flash rom.
Read my instructions HERE how to hardreset....
or
search for MTTY hard reset

Ok, found out why it doesn't work.. my mail button is broken (I didn't realize it because I never used it). So, is there anything I can do aside from opening it up, and trying to fix the button?
ouch! tried a search for an alternative to the mail button but sadly no go... guess you have to fix the button itself.. probably just needs to be cleaned...
awww... but you havent tried the Second option i suggested.
try to search for MTTY... that's a remote control terminal/console/client for the bootloader.
i think there's a command there to hard reset your BA.

btw hello everyone
well lets just get to my problem.
i installed the touch it program rom thingy or whatever to my phone
and now im trying to restore it back to its original settings...
the only reason im doing that is because i cant connect the phone to the usb anymore. it WONT connect.
so im trying to restore it.
please help!
thanks!
or can someone just tell me how to reconnect it to my computer please?
i've tried different ports on the computer
and restarted it
but nothing, so please help me restore to factory settings or be able to use windows mobile device center
thanks!
maybe activesync didn't install properly when you flashed it..
or.. you should try the activesync uninstall/reinstall trick..
or a corrupt system file and you just have to hard reset the phone..
hmm..... good question
hard reset is when you press the clear storage right? or when u take out the battery while its still running??
well even if those arent hard resets i've tried them and none work
=[
A hard reset is preformed as follows:
-Hold down the two softkeys on the front of the device (the ones above the Windows logo and the OK button)
-Press the reset button using the stylus, which you can find below the volume adjuster on the left hand side of the device
-Release the stylus, but keep the softkeys held down
-You will see a warning screen
-Press the green send key on the left - the one with the phone icon on it to confirm the reset.
After that it will take a little while longer to start up the phone.
Btw if you by "original settings" mean restoring your official ROM a hard reset won´t do. You will need to flash the official ROM to go back if I´m not mistaken.
thanks for the info!
hey again
well im trying to restore the original rom but everytime i do it wont go past 1%

Are you just trying to go back to the stock ROM becasue of the AS problem? Did you try a reinstall? After you uninstall before reinstalling AS go into your program files on the PC and delete the activesync folder.
If you HARDSPL'ed you need a STOCK ROM without the nbh. file. Thats why its kicking back to TOUCH.
Good Luck
my phone is tuck at the startup screen and i dont know how to fix it!!! is there way to fix this issue cuz its the 1st time its happened
Sounds like you need to Hard Reset... This will, unfortunately, put it back to factory standard - all contacts/sms/apps deleted.
Hold down left & right softkey thenuse the sylus to reset. It will ask if you want to reset, push r then spacebar. It should now go back to the alignment screen and go through the setup process again.
Best idea is to get a backup program like SPB Backup 2 or something in case this happens again. Also, if you haven't already, install Hard SPL ver 7 available for download here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
Cheers...

My HTC cha cha is stuck!
It is stuck at the startup, :
white screen with "quietly brilliant" logo.
then it`ll blank in black for awhile before repeating the same thing over and over again
any idea? please help me?
Hello,
I had an HTC Universal with WM6.1. I tried to do a soft reboot and the device shut off. When I try to do a hard reboot, the device says asks to press '0' or 'X', but when I press '0' to hard reboot, the screen fades off.
Has this happened with anyone else?
Thanks,
Teritius
yes.. I logged on just for that same reason.
Doesn't seem to charge either .. just got new battey ( of course don't know if its charged or not) - same thing
look in the wiki section .. I followed the mtty bits( not sure it did anything) then downloaded a new rom ... working fine now
You need to do the special reset press power / light/ reset
looks like not done anything burt look closer- as no backlight its goes into serial/usb mode

Thank you. I took your advice and read through the wikis, but nothing helped. I tried to install a new ROM, but received an error message. Then I transferred a ROM to my SD card and installed it through the power/backlight/reset feature, but after the ROM was installed and the Checksums were good, nothing changed with the phone. Any other advice?
I will post this answer in the other threads with this problem, but I installed Tomal's WM6.1 v8.2 and the phone worked fine afterward. I think the problem is that some phones don't accept all ROMS.
